I have been a member since it's opening in January. This is a HIIT based workout with both a focus on cardio as well as a strength. The workouts are 45 min. long and classes begin as early as 5:15am - - always starting and ending on time! Monday, Wednesday & Friday are cardio based and Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday are strength based. Saturday's are an hour long and are full body - the workout is typically "Hollywood" and it quickly turned into my favorite workout of the week. The gym is part of an international franchise yet certainly boasts a local, buffalo vibe. The owner Jess is AMAZING and all of the trainers are warm, welcoming and hilarious and certainly make the workouts more fun. There are a lot of fantastic "members only" perks as well. They typically have a free week trial, I would suggest giving it a try! Packages are in line with most other gyms of its size and scope. You can by individual classes, class packs or do unlimited (which is what I do) and that allows me to be my crazy self and go 7 days a week! Tip: arrive at least 10 min. early for class. The gym is on the 4th floor (above Tappo) and the elevator can be a bit slow.

Truly, sometimes you don't recognise how wonderful something is until it's gone. I used to work out…read moreat Rock Pile until fairly recently when I decided I needed to switch things up a bit. This is not the first time that Gemini caprice has led me astray. Rock Pile is an unpretentious space presided over by unpretentious people, native children of Buffalo and invested in the wellness and growth of this community. The space is capacious and the overall aura is minimalist but functional. You don't need very much to challenge your muscles beyond a squat rack, a barbell (and associated plates), pull-up bars, those gymnast rings, resistance bands and dumbbells: of these there are aplenty. My schedule does not allow me to take classes regularly, but the few I have taken have been challenging and edifying, but also fun. I have done my share of CrossFit gyms in my time, friends. Some are cult-y, some vulgar simulacra of Greek life and yet others run use a shame-based model to motivate. At RockPile, your fitness level does not present a barrier to partaking in CrossFit. Everyone is welcome and you can see it in the determination and confidence in the faces and gaits of the people who work out there. I know the provenance of the name of the gym, but, to me, there is a case to be made for us attendees as individual rocks: jagged, imperfect and in diverse shapes. In Madeline, Matt and Carmen's space, we all fall together in a perfect, coherent pile, our edges complementing each other. In conclusion: baby, I was a fool! The moment I can break up with my current joint, I'll be back...if you'll have me.

Look, I'm admittedly not super into crossfit but after trying out RockPile for a week I would…read moreconfidently say that IF I was to continue doing crossfit it would be here. They are super welcoming and each class (two run concurrently) has a small group size intentionally so you get personalized attention and good review of your form. They can also help you make accommodations. I started doing grapevines instead of a run one time unprompted and the trainer wasn't mad (which I've had other places). Pretty much as long as you are pushing yourself, being respectful of others, and generally staying in the workout area they recognize it's your workout and not every exercise motion will work for everyone. Been super impressed to hear from friends about the community outside the gym as well and how they're adapting to COVID by participating in the Ride for Roswell and supporting fellow members in the Buffalo Marathon. Again, I learned through my trial week that crossfit is not for me (100% my decision), BUT I'm kinda sad it's not, because this place is awesome.

Lots of obstacles with mats to protect you when you fall. I highly recommend joining or just signing up for free play. It's literally fun for the whole family. We will be back for sure.

My 5 / 6 year old, despite being fairly athletic, wasn't able to do at least half of them due to the need to stretch far, be taller, etc. If you go on a super slow open gym time, there's usually plenty of employees working who are willing to help... but I did find that some of them really have no idea how to interact with smaller kids. (one was using phrases like "Gravitational pull" and "momentum" when trying to explain things to a 4 year old... ehhhhhhhh) Also, CAN WE PLEASE GET A CHANGING TABLE HERE? For heaven's sakes, it's the middle of winter and no one wants to change a poopy diaper on the floor of a bathroom. It's a KIDS' GYM. That means parents are bringing their families here --- please be 100% family friendly and put a couple changing tables in the bathrooms. Please please please. I wouldn't pay full price, but with a Groupon it's a nice day out of the house when you're stuck inside during winter. Oh, also, BRING YOUR OWN POWDER. Because sweaty little kid hands + hanging obstacles = blisters and ripped open palms. Take my word on it.

My experience with Formula3Fitness and specifically the 5 week challenge, which I have participated…read morein twice, both successfully, has been excellent. One important part that they teach us is about proper nutrition. The program teaches us about healthy eating, planning our meals and tracking what we eat. For me, it really helped me getting rid of some bad habits and getting my good eating habits back. The workouts are great, always challenging us, run by some excellent trainers. They are all very knowledgable, very positive, motivational and stress the right techiques to use with all exercises. Personally,I have several previous injuries, the trainers are great at not only adjusting the exercises due to my injuries, but stressing correct techniques to prevent any further injuries. I have gained strength in my shoulders, back and biceps which enables me to do all the workouts without any pain. Combining proper nutrition and consistently exercising has helped me go from 208 pounds to 163 pounds in the last year. I am feeling better, stronger, have more energy and sleep better. What I really like is the 45 minutes workouts, I make it part of my day and doesn't take up much time. I have worked out at many different clubs throughout my life but my experience with Formula3Fitness has gotten me much greater results in a short period of time, surpassing anything that I thought was possible. I highly recommend Formula3Fitness and the 5 week challenge to anyone looking for positive results. Kurt Elmquest
