I'm giving them 2.5 stars because what I've tried wasn't too appealing..I want to try more things on then menu before I give an actual overall rating and if I do I'll update it, but the staff so far is very friendly. So the 'Manhattan turkey dog' wasn't good to me at all. They put way too much sauerkraut which I think made the bread soggy. Soggy enough to where your fingers sink in and actually touch the meat. It really didn't have much flavor, all I really tasted was the sauerkraut and the turkey meat. I also order the garlic fries. It was ok. I was expecting more garlic maybe even fresh garlic..it had few crispy garlic bits(depending on your preference it could be good or bad..for me I like fresh garlic) I want to come back and try more stuff on the menu, but I'm not tempted to anytime soon. read more

Oh man, it amazes me how I driven by this place so many times and never stopped in, especially since I love hot dogs!! After deciding to start a new thing where we try place Guy Fieri has stopped by in "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" we discovered he made a stop not too far away from me! So immediately I had to try, especially since it was a hot dog joint! (Personally I think hot dogs, are the quintessential American food, yes I know they weren't invented by us, but we perfected, especially after a visit here). So here's the break down. The joint is pretty simple, not a lot of thrills or frills, which is fine, cause you're here for the food. And food you will get. Where's what I had this time: Lincoln Log dog (foot long!) - Who would have thought that cream cheese and mustard on a hot dog together would have worked?! It was a great tangy combo topped with onions, giving it just a little kick. What caught me by surprise was that this bacon wrapped dog was a legit full size 12", not like the foot longs you used ot have in school (those pencil thin dogs did nothing). So watch out if you get a 12"! Bald eagle ripper - This one was featured on the show and I must say did not disappoint. The crispy dog and the awesome slaw. True to their review. Cheese Coney - This one was the least memorable to me, maybe its just cause I'm not a fan of chili dogs (yikes! Hold back the insults please!) It was pretty tasty but didn't really stand out in my mind. Firecracker Polish - This one I made a custom with fresh garlic, dill relish, and celery salt. I must say I did a great job picking out the toppings. The spiciness did not disappoint it has a good kick. As a fan of spicy foods, I was impressed (I hate going to places where they're like careful spicy and then it turns out to be nothing). If you like a little spice in your life, I do recommend. It's hard to pick a favorite but if I had to choose, it would be the manhattan dog. I absolutely love their red onion sauce. And be sure to try it with a polish sausage. It is to die for. Really. But as good as this place is, I feel so bloated every time I eat here (thus, the 4 instead of 5 stars). I have been eyeing this place on Yelp (Sandlot-style) for-eh-verrr! My advice to you if you've been doing the same: go already! In an unimpressive strip mall in Tarzana, resides a sliver (and I do mean sliver) of heaven. It's nondescript and pretty hard to miss (we actually called twice while driving around IN its parking lot because we kept missing it), but well worth the hunt. The dining room itself is a bit unkempt/disheveled and the decor is a little lacking (which are the only reasons for a lost star). Once you get past those things though, you will be thoroughly impressed. We ordered a regular chili dog, bacon-wrapped turkey chili dog with cheddar & onions, a Philly Dog, and a side of tots... Yes, tater tots. They actually have tater tots. Yum. The hot dogs were great; even the turkey dog let out a "snap!" when punctured. Although L.A. boasts bacon-wrapped dogs all over its streets, I've never tried one (let alone a turkey one). Brilliant! The chili was pretty tasty, the toppings fresh, and the beef/veggies on the Philly were delish. The tots were crispy on the outside, deliciously warm and inviting on the inside (sounds oddly sexual..... oy vey). Although the dogs were all yummy, none of them caused a chorus of angels to sing "Hallelujah!" in our heads. I'm assuming this is because, being our first visit to Fab's, we both played it safe. But we have not lost hope yet! We both left the place saying "can't wait to try the (insert name here) dog!" (In my case, I can't wait to try the Breakfast Dog. Seriously? Anything with a fried, leaky egg is automatically scrumptious. And cheesy tots?! ::salivating::). Fab Dog does it right: Natural casing dog with mustard, onion, tomato, peppers, neon green relish, celery salt and a poppy seed bun. A taste of Chicago in the Valley. I ordered the "Ripper". There is a stand in New Jersey,Rut's Hut, that takes a natural casing dog and deep fries it. This make the casing split open and become very crispy. You can choice your own toppings. There is a very small seating for six with a counter and one table outside. The one reason I did not give them six stars was because it takes forever to get your order. Going here is always special to me. I am an original fan when they first opened up Tampa Blvd. Glad they moved. It's really expensive for hot dogs but we still go back. Not as much as I want to due to price. After you've had some of their dogs, get a hamburger. The hamburgers are so amazing. I'm not a big fan of the chili though. The garlic fries rock! After getting all the Papaya King hype I started craving a hot dog, but Papaya King is really nothing special. So I started wondering where I could get one of those dogs that they sell on Hollywood Blvd, you know the ones, bacon wrapped, covered in grilled peppers and onions and served with mayo. My research led me here, to Fab Hot Dogs, only 17.5 miles away from my office in West L.A. But I ride a motorcycle so a little journey for a great dog is fun for me. The journey was worth it. Sad to say, I only had one hot dog, cause I'm watching my size 36 waist slowly creep to 38. But, the one hot dog was great. I had "The LA Street Dog". A bacon wrapped dog with grilled peppers, grilled onions, jalapenos, mustard, mayo and ketchup plus a dash of some magical soul juice that makes me want to drive another 17.5 miles again tomorrow to get another one. This place is difficult to locate; It is tucked behind the sign of the Levi store and right next to the Pizza Hut. The place is small but does provide quality service and nice size portions of their hot dogs. After reading the multitude of choices, I decided to create my own dog: Spicy Polish Sausage, bacon, chilli, onions, guacamole. For the side, I wanted to try their version of garlic fries and the tater tots. I asked if I could do 1/2 garlic fries and 1/2 tots; they said no. This kinda upset me because they an order of each is the same price; I mean how hard is it to serve up a half portion of each and charge me for one order? (STRIKE 1) I decided to just go with the tots since I haven't had these in a while. I received my order and it looked ok. The guacamole probably did have avocado in it, but it looked more like a pesto sauce that was oozed out of a piping bag for a design aspect. I requested ranch dressing for my tater tots and they requested a charge of 0.27 cents; really? Ketchup and mustard are free but you gotta charge for ranch dressing? I paid for it and the portion they give you is smaller than a sexual ejaculation!!!!!! (STRIKE 2) The dog and tots tasted good. The bacon infused into the sausage was very nice. The tots were hot and crispy; a lot better than when I was in elementary school. Overall, good food, good price. I was looking for someplace to go eat around Northridge with a friend of mine, and Fab Hot Dogs' website caught my eye with their little TV spot on the Food Network. The hot dogs were definitely creative, and the menu overwhelming enough to warrant a need to come back and try more. The restaurant was so small and "authentic", and I definitely enjoyed the charm of it. My friend and I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak Dog, the Mexicali Dog, the Italian Hot Dog and the Kansas City Dog. (We were hungry.) Also the fries and tater tots. I wouldn't call this place super special or anything, but it's definitely a fun spot to visit. I wouldn't recommend the Mexicali Dog at all -- the guacamole was definitely lacking flavor and ruined the whole dog. If you like bacon and BBQ sauce though, the Kansas City Dog is the dog for you. My friend loved her Philly dog, but the Italian one with the two hot dogs was maybe a bit much. I definitely want to go back and try their specialties like the Ripper. The tots were nice to be able to order cause you don't see 'em very often, but I've definitely had better fries -- nothing special there. It's not you, it's me... That said, we went up there after a large breakfast at More Than Waffles and it felt like cheating. I know it wasn't a very good plan; it was actually a foolhardy move on my part, but we were already deep into the Valley, so what the Hell, right? I don't know what I was expecting from Reseda's famed Fab Hot Dogs. I've been trying to get up there for months ever since I caught a whiff of something called a "ripper", a frank cooked in hot oil until its skin rips open like Dr. Bruce Banner's clothes, exposing the pinkish flesh underneath. The thought of that dog is enough to drive a man wild. That said, I was already on the verge of a food coma when I ordered my side of tater-tots and a "Bald Eagle", a ripper topped with their signature orange-tinted homemade mustard/relish slaw which looks a lot like baby poop and smells of celery salt ( or I think it's celery salt). Because of my already full stomach, I can't say my cheating little tummy really enjoyed my hotdog. In fact, I had some regrets and sort of stared at it for a few minutes before taking the first bite. I also didn't enjoy the homemade tater tots that much, and that says a lot about my state of mind at the time; tater tots are ALWAYS good!! My taste buds were probably whacked out because all I could taste was the slaw. It wasn't until I got to the exposed tip at the end where I got a taste of the weiner- okay, okay... get your minds out of the gutter. I'll give all of you a minute. Get it out of your system... Good? That said, my ripper was a good-sized hotdog and surprisingly, not greasy in the least. The spongey-soft bun held up excellently, too, which was surpising. I thought the whole thing would be a mess, but this was a well thought-out dog. All-and-all, it was put together pretty darned well. The next time I might try a plain one so I could actually taste the deep-fried frank. The restaurant itself is very non-descript. If you don't know where it is (corner of Tampa and Vanowen) you'll blink and miss it when you drive by. The interior is tiny (but there are a coupl'a tables in front) and there's a closet-like nook with a counter that'll fit about three or four people with framed Jonathan Gold articles adorning the wall. I did not know this, but Fabs also have grilled dogs and steamed dogs on their menu. It's like a hotdog heaven!! Another thing I noticed through my gastronomic haze was that the place was clean. The countertop where the food is prepared, along with the metal tubs holding the toppings, was neat and orderly. This is a good place (but they close at 5 o'clock on Sundays so be warned!) Parking is in the back, through an alley just south of Vanowen, that's probably shared with the other tenants in that plain, white single-story building. Like I said, it's literally a hole in the wall. The next time I go- and there WILL be a next time- hopefully I'll be in a better state of hunger. Even though I finished up my hotdog AND the tots, I still scanned the menu and found things for my next trip, and to me, that is a sign of a healthy relationship. This is clearly a place you go to when you are willing to lose all inhibition of weight gain and you just say eff it, "I'm going to eat a Fab's hot dog." There's really no use of eating healthy here. So after listening to my carpool partner rave about this place for a few months I decided to give it a try and see what all the fuss was about. Last week I had plans to meet up with a friend who lived not too far away so I figured this would be a good meeting place to kill to birds with one stone. The first thing I have to say is the menu is a little bit on the overwhelming side. There are some many special and custom hot dogs to choose from that you really don't know where to start. I ended up going with the DTLA Street Dog which I imagine is their interpretation of those hot dogs that they sell on the carts outside the Staples Center. You know the ones that look like they'll give you montezuma's revenge after the first bite. I also opted to add tots and a soda for another $2.95(?). I have to admit the tater tots were pretty good. They were cooked just right (crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside). They also give you a fairly large portion so you definitely will not feel like you're without. The hot dog in my opinion was just OK. It was pretty tasty, but it didn't really blow me away like the first time you got a chili dog at pinks after waiting 45 minutes in line. All in all it was the food was OK, but I am not really sure I would come back on my own unless someone I was with or from out of town really wanted to try it. *Anyway, after I told the carpool partner I went he said I messed up and had to get the ripper dog (deep fried), so we'll be making another trip in a week or so, and I'll report back then. read more

Looks like this might be my first letdown by Guy and DDD. Not as good as I was hoping, dogs were decent quality and pretty good size, toppings were numerous, although seemingly lower quality than anticipated. The LA Street dog had a little too much on it, and the sautéed peppers were kinda soggy. The Ripper is much better, real simple and not overly dressed, make sure you get it with Celery Salt. Tater tots were insanely salty. Service quality breaks even, very friendly cashier, even though she didn't offer suggestions as I explained how I was daunted by the massive amount of options on the menu. The girl calling orders seemed to be having a bad day and wasn't too polite. Restaurant itself was quite clean, and you can see everything being made right in front of you. Coming from a person that does not really enjoy hot dogs in the first place, this place is something I'd actually recommend. What I appreciate about it the most is that no matter how much they put in this hot dog, the bun somehow holds it all together. I have better hot dogs from the street vendors in hollywood, AND its cheaper! .lol .. The burger is a bit better.. Their mexican style corn on the cobb is yum though! So far, so good. Can't really say too much, it's a hot dog joint with a lot of different condiments. I'll have to eat a few more to be a better judge. I got the Boston Dog which had bacon and bbq beans. I loved it minus the mustard. Personally, I didn't like the flavor the yellow mustard added, maybe some spicy sweet mustard would have been good. Also ordered the "Mexican" grilled corn....as I like to call it...a la street vendor in the park. There was mayo, I think fresh cotillja cheese and a little chile powder. It was good but I think it could have been GREAT if it had another little layer of mayo. Going back for more! Gonna try the Ripper!!!! read more

So I tried this place because people kept telling me how great it was. They have a vast selection of hot dogs and burgers to choose from. Since everything seemed good, I asked the hostess to choose for me. I had the Mexicali Dog (and trust me it's SPICY), the Lincoln Log Dog, Garlic Fries and an Orange Fanta.  The hot dog combinations are very good and inventive. However, the hot dogs themselves are kinda scrawny and for whopping price of $15.64, I expected a juicier hot dog. $5 a hot dog is a bit much. The Garlic Fries we just OK. The counter to order is immediately by the door so, if there's a line, it has to start right at the door. They might have had to structure the restaurant that way since it's not such a big place. If it was done on purpose that's a great selling tactic, people will always think there's a crowd when there's probably only 5 people on line, LOL. There's plenty of parking because they're located in a mini mall.   I have to agree w/another Yelper (Bone Y) that said, "The Stand on Ventura Blvd. in Encino is FAR better and comparable in price". read more
