Stopped in today 2-12-26 at 450pm. Ordered hot dog with chili, mustard and onions. Lady taking order was nice. Watching young guy take hot dog with his bare hands and put in bun then watched him use his bare hands to dig in raw onions and put on top of the hot dog. There was a customer behind me so I said quietly I just watched u use bare hands for my food. He got defensive immediately. Another guy was there with tattoos all over his head & neck. He said health dept was just here and they have no prob...also said the other guy just washed his hands. I said I doubt the health dept would be ok with this. I work with food just fix this and I won't say anything. The guy with the tattoos got rude & defensive said i didn't have a problem before. This is my 2nd time there, i replied I didn't watch u prepare the food the first time. He said whatever yea dont come back. I left the unsanitary hot dog on the counter and left I didn't even ask for my money back and nvm the $1 tip I left after placing my order. ABSOLUTELY DISGUISTING AND UNSANITARY. The chili has a nice kick , but not too spicy; just perfect for a chili burger. The chili also has a good thickness, so it doesn't drip all over your hands and fall off the burger. The Hickory Burger was also delicious, as was the Western Dog (chili, mustard, cheese & onion). This is an all-beef dog, nicely cooked and the bun is perfectly steamed. Excellent! The Munch Box is one of the oldest family run businesses in LA County, which has not changed since they opened. Having seen the Munch Box listed on another website (Atlas Obscura) as a historical and unique restaurant, had to give it a try since I was in the area. I ordered the mushroom burger, fries, and a root beer float. The star was definitely the root beer float; the Munch Box staff make their own root beer and it is absolutely delicious (with caffeine). The root beer is well-balanced with creamy vanilla ice cream. The fries were fresh and light, definitely enough for two. The mushroom burger was a savory and filling burger. The ambiance is really cool, like traveling back in time to the '50s. The architecture has been maintained well, there's outdoor seating at the counter and at lunch tables. Finally tried this old standby that I've heard about for ages. Was in the neighborhood and stopped to get lunch. Stepped up to the window and got a Hickory burger with fries. It came out pretty quickly and I dug right in. Nice and juicy and delicious. The fries also hit the spot, they complimented the burger perfectly. It's a historical landmark in Chatsworth. Grew up going here since the 80s. Was craving a chili burger so I ended up here. The Burger was lacking chili and had almost no onions. It was definitely fresh and delicious but not a chili burger. The fries were fresh and tasted great. Overall still a great value compared to other burger spots. A single chili burger, fries, drink ended up being $15.i live the place, so hopefully they read these and change a few things. read more

If you are ever in Chatsworth or near there and love great junk food, The Munch Box is the place to go. Parking is usually not a problem. This place has been there forever it seems, I think sometime in the mid 50s it went up. It has chili dogs, burgers, fries. They thought of closing it once and that did not go over well with the neighborhood. This roadside burger stand has been owned and operated by the same family, kept the same Googie architecture, and nearly the same menu, with a variety of burgers, hot dogs, and fries since it opened. The prices have gone up, but other than that it is the same. When development threatened to close the restaurant in the early 2000's, the community wrote 1,700 letters and petitions to the city council, urging that the burger stand be placed on the list of Cultural-Historical landmarks. They won and it is now a protected landmark. The food is the best. We love their chili dogs with raw onion. Their burgers with chili are great. I don't care for American Cheese, not really cheese now is it, and that is all they have, but my grandson loves it. They still sell root beer and even though it is the same you can get at a grocery, it seems better there. It is go to the counter, order, wait a minute and either eat there, outdoors, or in your car or take home. We always stay and on cold days we eat in the car. The place is just so adorable. Not pretty, just so cute and the oldness makes it cuter. It is kept super clean. The service is ever so great. They are fast and friendly. Try it. read more

One of the few hole in the wall spots left in Chatsworth. Wherein their chili cheese fries still taste the same even decades later. Because the business behind it are a bit more established now, parking seems to always be available in the lot. I think there's a restroom, but never had to ask. Their menu has slightly increased throughout the years. But the main item that's from my childhood is their chili cheese fries. One of the best in the valley. Burger was okay. Next time I'll try out their dogs. I forgot that their dogs were better than their burgers. It's been so long since I've eaten there. Brought back a lot of memories. read more

This place has been here for ever, iv driven past it probably hundreds of times....so we finally went! It's a fun place to go for a burger and conversation. They only have tables outside, no inside seating. The place has a ton of history, you can google it and find pretty interesting stories on YouTube about Manson hanging out there waiting for his girlfriend who worked at a strip club across the street. My burger and fries were pretty average but I think most go for the history. We just fell into conversation with everyone sitting around us. Everyone had a story. Since I had some business in the valley, I decided I wanted to have lunch afterwards at the Munch Box. I saw a TikTok video promoting their hickory burger so that is what I ordered along with fries and a drink. The order came out quickly. Lots of tables to dit and eat. The French fries came out piping hot and they give you a lot. The hickory burger comes with chili, lettuce, tomato and onion and hickory sauce. I have to say that this burger tasted more like a chili burger, not a hickory burger. When I think of eating a hickory burger, I think of Apple Pan as the standard. I've been to the Munch Box many times. They have great food. I just wish they would adhere to the hours they say they will be open. It's the third time I've come to get a burger at 4:00pm or 4:15pm and they're already closing- they're supposed to be open till 5:00pm. Make sure you ask for burger with either because we ordered one with chili and another one we ordered without saying anything and it came very plain with just bread and meat. My son really loves the lunchbox so I went there. I am two burgers one with nothing but mayonnaise and the other a regular cheeseburger. When I got home, I had a burger with Island Dressing and the other burger was a chili burger. I have picky eaters at my home so they went in the trash. I tried to call, but the number here on the yelp ad is disconnected and the other area doesn't have any phone numbers. What type of business does an offer a phone number so I decided not to drive over there and let them know or give them an opportunity to make it right. He decided if they don't have a decent list of phone number they need to hear it here on yelp.
