We found this spot through Amex's Resy and decided to celebrate our anniversary here! The restaurant entrance is located inside the improv doors to the right. We checked in for the reservation and got seated pretty promptly. The waitstaff were kind and professional. We decided to order the Brussel sprouts as our appetizer and they were delicious. I had the 12oz skirt steak with a side of prawns. You get 3 prawns for $9. The steak was cooked to medium rare as requested, but it was salty as all hell. We also shared a side of wild & field mushrooms, which were also fairly salty. We did not bring this to the attention of the staff however, because we hate to send food back. The whole head of grilled garlic was a major bonus though! The rainbow trout was full of bones, but that's to be somewhat expected. They wipe your table and take crumbs in between courses, which is nice. However, I happened to visit the ladies room and came back to wet seat after they wiped the table. This was dissatisfying. At the end, we were offered a chocolate budino cup to celebrate our anniversary. It was delicious and we're grateful the restaurant helped us celebrate, our waitress even offered to take our photo. There are not too many places in the immediate area like this. The only other place similar would be The Summit House. You could throw The Cellar in the mix, but I'd rather not. That place feels dated and claustrophobic, so I don't like to recommend it. If you are looking to go to a more upscale place with better service, then check this place out. In any case, I've always have great experience coming here. The food and service is always great and consistent. This is definitely a place that caters towards meat eaters, less than vegetarians, but there are options for us non-meat-eaters. I usually order the Cauliflower Steak, which is one of the best that I have had. The beat salad is also very good. They have a bunch of sides you could also order to get you through the meal. But don't expect any entres that cater toward vegetarians. The menu is all meat and the specials were all seafood. The drinks here are what you expect to find at a place like this. I always get the Old fashion. Its good, but nothing to write home about. Pricing is what you would expect. Its a nicer restaurant so expect to pay. Glasses of wine are around $20 dollars, but the pours are generous. We arrived at 5:20 PM on a Saturday evening and found seating at the bar. Didn't have any reservations. YMMV. read more

The staff were very nice. I tried the ribeye and I was very tasty as well. Was surprised with the garlic that came with it and that taste it very well with the steak. I ordered the mood enhancer alcoholic beverage, and that was very strong, not complaining. It was good though. It is by reservation primarily but they had a bar that is first come first serve basis, and we were able to sit there and have our full meal there. We've always considered ourselves regulars at Chop House and truly love the experience, but unfortunately, today really soured that for me. We had a 3:30 reservation and were seated early, ordering three appetizers (caviar, the special fried rice, and bone marrow) along with two entrees. While the bread and caviar arrived promptly, we were left waiting roughly 40 minutes for our hot appetizers to follow. During this time, a table seated after us was already deep into their main courses. A manager did come over to apologize and mentioned internal issues in the kitchen, and while we appreciated the transparency, we expected a bit more in terms of a resolution at this price point. When the rest of the apps finally arrived, we were so hungry we just dug in. I had specifically asked the waitress for the mushrooms on the side of the fried rice, but they came mixed in anyway. I didn't even bring it up because we were just too hungry to wait any longer. After some more time passed, we asked if our entrees were close. Our waiter then asked if we still wanted a "traditional three-course progression" for our meal. Under normal circumstances, absolutely! But not after a 40-minute gap between the cold and hot appetizers. At that stage, the pacing was already non-existent. The final straw was seeing tables that arrived way after us already settling their checks. We completely lost our appetite and decided to cancel the rest of the order. They were very gracious about it and only charged us for the caviar, which we did appreciate. This has never happened to us here before, but at a high-end steakhouse, you're paying for consistency as much as the food. Tonight fell extremely short of that standard. I left very disappointed, especially since we always order caviar and some form of steak. I really hope they can fix whatever internal issues are going on. read more

I went back again and sat at the bar this time which was a real treat. The bartender had such a great personality and made it fun. There are tvs at the bar. I had the scallops, crab cakes, Brussels sprouts and toffee pudding. Everything was incredible. I also had a Mai tai that was soooo goood and strong imo. Fortunately, when we arrive, they had two seats available at the bar area so we were seated immediately. Our servers, Sam and Andre, were very attentive. Came here for a Sunday brunch as there wasn't too much of a crowd during that time. There are parking structures that are nearby that you can park for free. I did see a parking lot in the rear of the restaurant but was unsure if it was valet I elected for the crab benedict. They actually had a fair amount of crab in the middle of the benedict and the sauce on top wasn't thick so it was pretty good. The side salad was great as it was a refreshing side to the benedict. I did order a side of shrimp as well. The service here was really good, as they come by regularly to refill water. You know a place is good when I don't capture all the photos. I started to and then all the food looked so good that we all dug in without thinking of taking anymore photos. I'm vegetarian so this is mostly a vegetarian review. We came for brunch, which ends at 1pm. I got the Benedict and subbed the meat for avocado. It was good. Their soft boiled eggs are so good. I THINK their Mac n cheese is cooked in bacon fat. That was a bit of a bummer for me but I know it's silly to go to a steak house as a vegetarian so I'm thankful for their other options. They even offer cauliflower steak and a bunch of sides you could choose from. Beat salad was good but a bit strong with the onion/garlic (not sure what it was-but maybe it's because I'm more sensitive since I don't eat onion and garlic). ** I'm editing this to add that the Mac n cheese is in fact vegetarian and was so good that it tasted like it was cooked in a rich fat but it was smoked Gouda!** :) Their raspberry drink was really good. I had it as a mocktail. With alcohol, they make it taste so yummy you barely even know the alcohol is there. My friends loved the half shell oysters and their steaks. They said oysters, especially the vinegar, and the steaks here are the best. Service was amazing by anyone involved. The owner Oscar was also super sweet and attentive. I loved that. Parking was okay during the day but I hear it's pretty difficult in the evening. However there are plenty of surrounding lots. If you get lucky, you can get parking in their lot. Otherwise there's valet for $8 I believe. Our whole party of 4 had to be present before being seated. Overall the whole experience and the taste/quality of the food makes me want to go back tomorrow. I was very pleasantly surprised at this place. Very good food but just watch out for market prices and "specials" might want to ask the actual price. My husband got the special chilean Seabass it was a great cut and just melted in your mouth but we were shocked when the bill came. Before we even ate, my husband, and I both went to the restroom and on our return, our napkins were folded so pretty such a nice touch and very personal. This was the first time I've ever been somewhere that they did that I was pleasantly surprised. They are really known for the butter cake and it didn't disappoint...we also got a recommendation for the key lime pie and I am excited to try that next time. Well a 5 star review is not enough for this establishment or the owner of this business. Let's start with the food, it is amazing. Filet and lobster were perfectly cooked. Salad was crisp and fresh, But also full of texture lots of wonderful small veggies in it that didn't over flavor any other part of the salad, but instead like a well written ballet it just worked. I've never mmmm mmmm over a salad, but I absolutely did with this one. Cauliflower steak! Wow! (That says a lot from a carnivore) Asparagus perfectly cooked with a lovely butter rue. Thick spears. Pesto pasta was delicious. Homemade Bread with a dipping sauce, also a crisp sheet, and a couple of buns. Now mine was brought to me as I had just spent three days in a hospital by my most amazing sister. The packaging of the food was perfect and everything was nice and warm. Old Brea Chophouse has been one of my favorite restaurants for many years. It was only fitting that we returned again to celebrate our anniversary. It is located in the heart of downtown Brea on the northeast corner of Brea Blvd and Birch Street. There is a paid valet parking lot directly behind the restaurant, as well as a free multi-level parking garage across the street. A reservation is highly recommended. Their website is very detailed and has pictures of almost every item on the menu. The inside of the restaurant is a good mix of modern and classy with subdued lighting. There is a nice big bar in the middle of the space with booths and tables throughout. Since it was our anniversary, we wanted to sit next to each other in a booth and I noted this on the reservation. When we arrived, the host immediately informed us that they were happy to accommodate my request. I don't know if they have a formal dress code, but this is a nice restaurant. Get out of your daily casual wear, dress up a little bit, and make it a nice evening. After being quickly seated, our water and their delicious bread basket arrived. The pretzel bread is to die for, and there were also two soft and fluffy rolls, and a big cheese crisp. We started out with a few cocktails and I ordered the Old Habits. It was a hot day out, and this was the perfect light and refreshing cocktail. It reminded me a lot of a mojito even though it contains gin and sherry instead of rum. She ordered the Bomb Berry which was a nice reddish pink color and it had a great nose. It has a sugar rim, was well balanced, and had a good fruit flavor that was just right. We like to get caviar once in a while, and we know it is always available here. The last few times we had it here, the server verbally told us what they currently had in house. This time, they had a printed menu which was a big improvement. Having the names, prices, and detailed descriptions of each caviar was very helpful in making a selection. We had never heard of Regiis Ova caviar before. Our server informed us that OBC is the only restaurant in California besides The French Laundry and one other Napa restaurant that carry it which made our choice easy. We decided to have the hybrid variety since it sounded a little more exotic. The presentation is fit for a king. It arrives in a big gold bowl filled with crushed ice and all of the accoutrements on top. The caviar tin itself is in its own smaller gold bowl on a bed of crushed ice and sits atop the bigger bowls ice mountain. The slices of bread are very soft and light, and have a very slight toastiness to them. The eggs of this hybrid variety are definitely largest we have had. They melt in your mouth and have a nice creamy, slightly nutty taste. The flavor can be described with one word, heavenly. You can take the empty tin home and it will be a nice reminder of this great anniversary dinner. Next up were the entrees... I usually go for a steak of some sort, but I felt like trying something different and went with the 16oz New Zealand rack of lamb. When it arrived, our server asked if I would like the chef to cut it and I agreed which made it a little easier to eat. It was cooked a perfect medium rare, was very tender, and the light seasoning was amazing. All of their meat entrees come with a roasted garlic bulb, but the lamb was so good, I didn't use it. This was probably the best rack of lamb I have ever had. The restaurant has a great wine list and I had a glass of Belle Glos Clark & Telephone pinot noir which paired great with the lamb. She ordered an item off the specials menu, a 24oz Caribbean lobster tail. It was a huge tail and our server again offered to have the chef deshell it and she agreed. There was a ton of meat, and of course I offered to help eat it all. The Caribbean lobster has a little sweeter flavor than other varieties and it was delicious. We usually order too many sides and end up taking most of them home, so this time we just ordered the ricotta gnocchi which we always get. These are easily the best gnocchi we have had anywhere. They are large, airy, and pillowy. The sauce is great and also has mushrooms in it. We were stuffed and really had no room for dessert , but they generously brought us a small complementary dessert for our anniversary. I think it was crème fraiche in a dark chocolate cup. It was topped with small chocolate malt balls with some fresh berries on the side. It was the perfect small dessert to top off an excellent meal. The plate also had a chocolate printed "happy anniversary" on it which was a much appreciated touch. Our servers Jackie and Olga were outstanding the entire evening and took excellent care of us. 5-stars across the board! Ambiance, service, and food. They all hits were home runs! No reservation so had to sit at the bar, and we had a blast. Great location, easy walk from parking garage across the street. Decor-classic steakhouse decor with lots of tables, large bar, and great lighting. Service-outstanding service from bartenders and waiters alike, they all did great!! Food-best Sea Bass I've had all year!!! It was a very thick piece of fish and it was flavored and cooked to perfection. When I tell you, I savored every bite, I mean exactly that. It was simply wonderful and I still dream of this fish. The sauce that accompanied the fish was also very nice!! The sides were also on the same level of perfection. Brussel sprouts and potatoes made great companions to the fish dish. Came here couple of times, last night I ordered rack of lamb and a few veggies, the rack of lam was very good, the wild mushrooms was very good, just a bit salty, the Russell sprouts was good if they did not put too much salt in it, my friend ordered the skirt steak it was very very sweet, I tasted it, yes, it was sweet!
