They support crochet, Tunisian crochet, and knitting. They have classes and the person working there was friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were a bit high but reasonable given the quality of the goods offered and the fact that, as a crocheted, I felt welcome. I'm 54 and have been crocheting and knitting since childhood. This is the first time I've ever felt welcome in a local yarn store as someone who prefer crochets.

They're located in the downtown shopping district, about a five minute walk from the Decatur MARTA Station. The bold patterns and pops of color in the window caught my eye as I was driving down E. Ponce de Leon. I circled back, parked on the street and went inside to explore. They have a variety of merchandise: African print fabrics Masks and wood pieces Woven bowls Jewelry Purses, backpacks and sandals Wraps and scarves Kente and Greek graduation stoles A few racks are filled with ready-made men's and women's clothing but fabric is really their forte. Hundreds of beautiful swatches line the walls. Most prints are $7 a yard but the silks go for $12.50 a yard. Since I haven't ticked "learn to sew" off my bucket list yet, I felt in over my head looking at all that cloth. Fortunately, they have contact info for seamstresses so once I have a pattern I can choose the fabric and get something made. It might make sense for them to sell patterns but since they don't I'll need to find one elsewhere. Anyway, I left with a cowrie shell necklace for the boy and two pieces of jewelry for myself. I loved several of their fabrics and hope to be back for one soon. Tess World Designs is a great addition to the Decatur shopping district.

I was visiting ATL for the weekend and wanted to visit some yarn stores so the Craftivist came up in my research. I saw that they host events for people to come in and work on their fiber arts a few times a week so this sold me on visiting! When I stopped in, I was greeted and there was space for me to sit down. I even got some help on my project. It was so nice to be community with people who love the fiber arts for a little while. I look forward to supporting their business since they also ship!

I recently had a private knitting lesson here…read more The instructor begin with telling me the different types of forms yarn comes in, ie. hanks, skeins and balls along with other information about knitting. After the introduction the instructor picked out a wood circular knitting needle for me. The reason for choosing the wood I was told it would help hold the yarn better for a beginner versus a metal needle. When it came time to choose the yarn I was told to make my choice from a small area. I picked a mustard yarn. The next day I received an invoice from the store because I didn't pay for the items. Silly me. I assumed because I was only allowed to pick out from a certain section that it was included with the lesson that I had paid for. Unfortunately, because the yarn I chose was quite small. It has been difficult as a beginner working with it. There have been a lot of starts and stops which I would expect but more so because of the size of the yarn. I have since learned as a beginner I should have a bulkier yarn. When I left that day, I had not gotten the hang of the cast on, or the knit stitch. Five minutes before the class was to end we had just finished casting on and that didn't leave much time for the knitting since the store was opening. Since taking the class I have been able to get the hang of the cast on and the knit stitch thanks to Sheep and Stitch on YouTube. I think the reason I didn't get the hang of it in the store was because of the teaching style. It just didn't mesh with my learning style. I would definitely recommend the classes to anyone here. Very professional staff. Because the yarn I ended up purchasing isn't good for beginners. I did call the store to see if I could exchange it, but I was told they would not accept it because it had already been wound. The staff was very nice. They were very helpful when customers came in.

I was also pleasantly surprised that they brought me the left over fabric, from my re-upholstery job. It is not too much, but it is enough for me to take right back to them, and order a few small accent pillows to match the daybed. (Which I plan to do soon.) They could have discarded the fabric or made pillows to sell in their shop, and I would never have known the difference. The honesty meant a lot to me. And speaking of fabric ... they have zillions of beautiful choices, in all price ranges. They were very patient with me and I am a person who does thorough research and takes her time, before I finally make a decision.
