This is a long story so I will place my TLDR at the top. TLDR: The absolute worst optical store in Queens!!! Customers beware! This place will outright scam you. It takes about a month to receive your glasses. They do not refund. They overcharge for contacts. Horrific customer service. If I could give this place a 0 I would. Do not support this business. The story: I came here to renew my optical prescriptions for both contacts and frames. There was a line outside to get in. No one is held accountable for taking care of customers. You have to keep bothering them to take care of you otherwise no one will acknowledge you. When someone finally noticed me, which was after half an hour of waiting, I had to wait another half hour just to see the doctor. The doctor was the only decent part of the experience. Jewish doctor with fair customer experience, made some sort of conversation while he tested my vision. After I completed both exams, I had to wait again until someone could take me. When I got to the point where I could choose my glasses, they didn't even give me the option to get insurance covered frames. They went straight to the most expensive pairs and brand names. They immediately try to bribe you into buying a pair by telling you that your insurance will deduct 100$ off of any frames. This is a blatant lie to get you to spend money. I had to try on glasses first before they would even let me get my insurance paid glasses. As soon as you mention that you want them, they lose interest in you. I pick my frames and then they tell me the price of my contacts. $120 per eye for a 3 month supply! I thought it was expensive and they explained to me that it was the brand I was getting. This convinced me to buy it. After I make my purchase I felt like I got ripped off so I go online. To my surprise, they charged me almost quadruple the price for my contacts! What they don't tell you is, after you made your purchase you are stuck with them till the entire process is done. I came back the next day to complain about my contacts. They tried every way to convince me that I was not overcharged. I wasn't convinced and tried to get my refund. If you look at the receipt, you are not allowed refunds of any kind. So I bargained with them to get me a designer pair instead which I believed was worthy of the 240$ price and asked for my contacts prescription to buy elsewhere. They offered me a decent deal for the glasses and I was eligible to get a free pair of trial contacts but they wouldn't give me my contact prescription till I received my frames. The designer pair of glasses I ordered came in the wrong size and all they could do was adjust it for me. My insured glasses was another problem in of itself. The one I chose was apparently not in stock. Why did they tell me I was good to go if the item wasn't available? I come back the next day and wait the usual time: 30 mins. I finally get someone and they tell me to wait until they have confirmation that the glasses were in stock. The girl finalizes everything and let's me go. I get a call a few days later that the item I had waited for and received confirmation was not in stock!! What the actual fuck?! I go in again and do the same process all over again. When I went to adjust my designer frames, the lady asked if I ever received my insured pair and my trial contacts. I said no and that was that. She didn't even check to see if it came in. Later that day I received a call to pick up my glasses? By this time I've already made five trips to the store. Today was my final trip. I received my insurance pair and they did not fit. I told the lady and she got upset? It took her three times to adjust it properly. I asked about my free trial and she couldn't find it. Said she had to order it. They told me they ordered almost a month ago. I was done with them and asked for both my prescriptions. She gave them to me and I replied thanks. No reply. No you're welcome and no apology. I went there last month on the belief that their advertisement promising one hour service was accurate. I was shown glasses that I liked, with the price tag visible. I asked how much they were and got double talk about a $150.00 discount due to my Medicaid insurance. They then added $100.00 to the price and demanded I take every upgrade possible. I was willing to pay about $250.00 for glasses, but the final out of pocket price was almost $600.00!!! I wanted contact lenses and got the exam. I asked the doctor to wait a second as I had something in my eye. He basically said just get on the machine where they blow air into your eyes, and caused an irritation that lasted for about 2 weeks. He then proceeded to put drops into my eyes to dilate my pupils. I expressed concern that I really needed to be able to see to get on trains and busses to get home , and he assured me that I would only have a slight distortion, which was a blatant lie. It was frightening to try to navigate public transportation with very distorted vision. I was told I would get a pair of "trial" lenses, but they did not have them in stock, and to come back in two weeks. The "manager", Vera was incredibly rude! (Did not want to even give me her name!) I could not believe the way she spoke to me after I decided to go with the pair my insurance covered. I asked for my prescription for contacts and she said I had to wait two weeks to "finalize the prescription"to see if my trial pair was correct. I wore the trial pair for about an hour and they were just totally wrong. She tried to belittle me for not paying for the contacts exam, while another sales person told me not to pay until I got my trial pair. This Vera person did not want to give me my glasses that were covered, because "How do I know you're coming back to pay for the contacts exam?" I replied because I need contacts. She then put her hand in my face and said "#1, you have insurance. #2 You did not pay for the contacts exam...)" at which point I was very annoyed and said what's #3? She got scared and said we have video here. I said I hope you have audio as well, so your boss can hear how you speak to people. She said twice you only get one pair of trial lenses. I said what if they are wrong? Is that not the meaning of trial? No, she said, you only get one pair, you insurance people are always trying to scam. I insisted on getting my prescriptions and wanted to buy the lenses she had in hand and she refused to sell them to me! I paid the hundred bucks for the exam and left. I needed these glasses in a timely manner for an important function. Instead I got aggravation. She tried to prevent me from leaving and I said "Do I owe you any money?" She said no and I left, very upset, with glasses that need to be adjusted. She should not be working with humans. read more

I was a Returning customer, the staff passed me around to 4 different girls to deal with my application for safety glasses, only to end up with the original one. The woman by the name of Melanie did not want to help me.. She told me that I needed another part to the form and spoke with such disrespect , and sent me on my way. I ended up faxing the paperwork to another optician and the forms I had were correct and sufficient. A classic case of people that lose business due to their negligent,lazy and unprofessional staff. The absolute worst service i ordered a pair of lenses for my daughter. The staff don't provide the best customer service or clean the items they are during to place on the faces of clients. The lenses i ordered were 150.00 i was told it would take 5-7 business days i called back a week later was told 5-10 almost three weeks later i had to go into the shop because i had received no calls about my order. I asked when i got there if they weren't ready I'd need a refund. They then claimed they are only the middle man and insurance makes it take longer than it needs to. They had my glasses and never called to have me pick them up but we're lying in the interim to take away from their lack of concern and customer service the absolute worse. This Fabulous Optical is not so fabulous; I brought in my own frames to have them prescribed and while I was in the store, I bought a pair of Fendi glasses; total charge $635. A store clerk called to say my glasses were ready; when I got there, only the Fendi glasses were ready but not tinted as I had requested. The manager/owner told me I could take them around the corner on 164th Street to their lab to have them tinted; -- Imagine that. I asked the manager/owner, "what happened to the other pair of glasses?" He said they were not ready. Long story short -- this optical store's business practice is the most sub-standard thus far. I've been wearing glasses for 60 years and have had my prescription filled at numerous places. I have NEVER had to wait 3 weeks for glasses only to receive them one pair at a time and not finished in the order that I requested. I usually go to Cheaper Peepers in Valley Stream and if I give them 5 pairs of glasses to be prescribed, I get 5 pair of glasses returned in 4 days. I've been living in South Jamaica for 40 years and have never purchased anything of great significance on Jamaica Avenue. This optical place was the first. I believe the business practice (or lack thereof) is indicative of the clientele they think they serve; they would never be able to perform in a sub-standard fashion if they were located on Queens Boulevard or Union Turnpike. Literally went in today to pick up my new glasses and I was given the wrong frames . when I brought this to their attention I was told that I was right and I would get the correct frames. I waited for a couple minutes and then I'm told by a lady there that the frames are out of stock so they just ordered me the next color . She persisted that I have to take these frames and that they are still going to charge my insurance.... I claimed 3 times I'm not taking these frames because their not the ones I picked out and I kept getting hit left and right with an excuse. I had a terrible experience there. I am on disability since I was in an accident and hurt my back. Once they saw that I had disability insurance I was treated like I had a disease. Because I'm unable to get around well I when went back for convenience sake, again I was treated despicably! I take much pride in my dress and appearance so they were nice at first until I mentioned my insurance...BOTH TIMES! I wanted to cry I felt so bad. I don't care how close they are, there WILL NOT BE A 3rd time. The lady in charge, You should really try to treat people better. I also heard complaints from other people who were coming ace going. I was told the location had much better customer service. In the meantime I called 4 different times to have my prescription sent elsewhere and it's always a runaround, each time I was told something else. NOW I was told I needed to fax a release form or come in. I finally obtained the release form that they asked for and faxed it over. Let's see if they send my prescription through.... Will update. Very poor customer service. No one returned my calls. There was no follow up calls or updates with regards to when the glasses would be ready. Took almost 4 months. Then had to send my glasses back because the prescription was incorrect. You're lied to constantly. Thought about suing the establishment because of a horrible experience with Faye who made it clear that she had other customers when I kelt on calling for updates on my glasses! So who was I...chopped liver? She called the lab and asked them to cut my lens and had it sent over without the prescription! Sarai the so called manager lies as well! They overcharge and my son still wasn't able to complete his medical...but was prescribed new lens without it! Planning to sue! Faye claims to have no papers...so how are you working in a business without a work permit???? Their staff turnover is crazy. The experience there has been bad and got decidedly worse. Patronized another business and will never go back to Fabulous Opticals! My new lens service was top notch and received my glasses in 1 week. My entire family wears prescription lens. This place is so transparently manipulative and money-hungry. The workers that "help" you pick frames go out of their way to convince you that your eyesight is going to deteriorate exponentially if you don't get every single possible add-on they mention. The opticians are rude and make no effort to help or talk to the patients that go see them. Also, do you want to order contacts or glasses somewhere else? Guess again. They don't give you any prescriptions without being asked multiple times, make "mistakes" on every prescription so that numbers are unclear, withhold the information needed to place an order, keep you on the line for far longer than necessary if called about prescriptions, and withold your pupillary distance to prevent you from buying glasses anywhere else. The optician does not take your PD either, it's the workers selling the glasses. If you're going to shell out money for an eye exam and glasses, do it literally anywhere else. read more

I decided to change my daughters eye doctor and luckily her eye sight is okay to go without her glasses because it took these people from April 12th to receive the glasses today May 2nd 4 weeks!!!!. Very disturbing customer service. I called today to inquire about pricing and I was treated as if I was a waste of time. The ironic part is that the gentleman (I prefer not to use a more fitting term) acted so disrespectful at the very beginning of my phone call. I am a government worker simply trying to utilize the insurance that I pay for. I asked if they accept my insurance and he said yes. I asked if my insurance will cover my contacts exam - he said no, it'll be $100. That is $15 more than what a female employee told me in person several weeks back. When I explained that I received a different quote previously, he said, "Come in and show me who said that", in a very combative tone. He did NOT want to give me any information and said that I have to come in so he can speak to me in person. He kept cutting me off before I completed a sentence. Every other office I called was able to provide basic information but this individual refused to exhibit ANY quality customer service. I advise folks to stay away unless you don't mind being spoken to as if you're a nuisance. I called back to retrieve his name (in case I have to "prove" who spoke to me), and the young lady who answered seemed hesitant to provide it. She seemed nice, yet uncomfortable, because I have a feeling she has experienced the unprofessionalism of her colleague, who subsequently provided the name, JOSEPH / JOE. I came here to get my eyes checked. The doctor checked my eyes. I was told by the female clerk that i had to pay 15 dollars for my co-pay which i did not mind paying. I have been coming here for years and never had an issue till now. The male Jewish guy tried to force me to buy lenses i did not want and told me only then he will give me my prescription. By law you are entitle to your prescription, which he did not want to give me.... until i was to buy something from them. I called my insurance and spoke to the guy and until an hour later he finally told the female clerk to give me my prescription. On top of that they say they'll take 10 to 12 business days to deliver. Whereas online all of these companies are offering fast and free shipping. They just order it online and charge you a 350% markup, ridiculous. I don't mind paying a markup to help local stores, but this is a rip-off. Got there and was told to come back another day - (after they checked my plan coverage, by the way - we have a substitute who may not be able to sign off on it - all while one of the people was calling the other store to tell them to stop sending people. I was looking at frames and waiting for assistance while she looked like she had better things to do. She rolled her eyes at 2 people she was helping 3 times that I counted!
