During chiberia, a part of the bottom of my car got unhinged due to the crappy snow. I drove my fiancé out to the burbs and he recommended fair muffler. I came near the end of the day and they looked at my car within an hour, even though the place was popping. I was greeted and taken care of by Rob when I walked in. He immediately recognized what kind of car I had, even though I have a rare old turbo Mitsubishi you don't see every day. I came down from the north side of Chicago because they were the only shop that had a 3" flex pipe in stock to replace the one on my downpipe. The best and only place I will take my cars for brakes or exhaust had a hole in my header 5 other shops said they wouldn't touch it I brought it to Fair not only did he fix it but he charged me $20, I also had a broken muffler hanger and my exhaust was crooked he fixed it no extra charge the best service I've EVER came across ANYWHERE! Most honest mechanics I have ever met. They never take advantage of those who don't know much about cars. In fact, I brought in an SUV to get the timing belt changed (I previously owned the same model vehicle and the timing belt had to be changed at 60,000 miles) and they let me know that the vehicle no longer has a timing belt! I see that the guys at Fair commented on my review, but apparently they misread it. The $10/$40 I mentioned was indeed from many years back, it has nothing to do with the service I had recently. I was given a choice on my last visit, and did take the cheaper option, but a 15 minute job of welding in two short pieces of scrap pipe onto the existing flex pipe should not have cost $120. I'm going elsewhere. I hope Jerry is enjoying his retirement and Jim is doing well. I noticed the Fair Muffler guy didn't dispute the old letters they've kept posted. I don't recommend bringing your car here, the prices seam very high for what you get and the standard parts rust very very quickly. They mentioned my muffler was rusting and needed to be replaced which they did in 2011 and again in 2009 I asked If it was under warranty and the front desk guy said no, he said it was only a one year warranty on mufflers after double checking the computer. I dug up my bill and it said lifetime warranty. Watch out they lie right to your face. I'll go elsewhere! read more

I like Fair in LaGrange, IL. I have been going there oh 5-6 years years now for installation of brakes that I purchase elsewhere (I like to purchase high-performance aftermarket stuff). Fair NEVER gives me any problems. Always busy, always prompt, always calls me when the job is finished. I have heard of good reviews regarding custom exhaust. I am planing on taking my car to fair to have some mufflers/tips I have purchased welded. Hopefully they can weld Stainless Steel. read more

Excellent experience! Mechanics were knowledgeable and professional. Arrived at 8 am, they diagnosed the problem as a broken strut and replaced with new, high quality replacement parts and I was driving home at 10 am. The total cost was very reasonable. Bandits! Replaced catalytic converter 2 years ago. Now codes out as bad. Fair did NOTHING for me. A replacement catalytic converter should last 5+ years. Take your business anywhere but here. read more

The only reason this place is even getting 1 star is because the shocks were done properly!- At least so far we've yet to see a problem with them.. However, My husband initially took his truck here to get a chrome tip put on- while he was there he spoke to gentleman at the counter about doing the shocks. He gave my husband a decent price and warranty on the work so my husband agreed. The next evening he brought his truck there and they were supposed to work on it first thing the following morning. Truck was done on time, my husband and I went to pick it up- when we got home my husband started to wash the truck. In doing so he noticed the front inner wheel well liners were MISSING from the truck. Now the liners were there when we took the truck and now they were missing! You could see everything behind the wheel well! It looked terrible. Of course when my husband went back to the place the guy behind the counter told my husband he couldn't "remember" if they were on there or not when he initially brought it in. At the same time all the guys in shop came out and swore up and down that the liners WERE NOT there when we brought it there. One guy even said "Oh maybe they fell off".... fell of when? when they were working on it? We went to La Grange police dept... that wasn't much of a help... Supposedly one officer said he went a reviewed the tapes and they were "no where near the liners" ... OK how could you not be near the liner when its covering the shock. Also he said the guys only took 15 minutes on each shock ( Then why would it have to be there all day and over night if it is a 1 hour job. Bottom line is THEY are ALL FULL OF SH*T!!!!! Now we are forced to pay $110/ each liner out of our pockets..... all because they wanted to either steal them or break them and not be honest about it. P.S Not to mention we have BEFORE and AFTER pictures .. PROOF read more

One of my go-to shops. Most recently, the exhaust pipe literally fell off my car. Dropped off the car after-hours and left keys in their mail-slot, car was ready to go early next morning. Excellent service with regards to both mechanic and customers. Great price and turnaround! We had a rattling in our car in the area of the exhaust and my husband thought we might be needing a new muffler etc. I took our car into Fair after reading the reviews. I had a short wait and then the manager asked me to take a look so he could explain the issues - all that was needed was some quick work on a heat shield and rewelding of a hanger. Maas wouldnt fix my aunts car and sent me here almost 2 years ago. they gave an estimate of over $400. needless to say, i went elsewhere. i took it to Car-one in Bridgeport and they fixed the exhaust for $60 and it still sounds better than new . read more

I have only wonderful experiences with Fair recently. They were able to take me quickly when in a jam with 3 cars in the last 8 months...always got a fair and honest job. I was always given options of rebuilt or new, necessary or "can wait " repairs. I have absolutely no reason to doubt their expertise as they have not tried to oversell me, just fix what need fixing and get me out of there. I've been going to fair muffler with my dad for as long as I can remember. I've brought two of my cars there. For a shop, their price is excellent I must say. They adjusted some things without changing the price. The one thing I am not satisfied about is how they moved my car. It was way over rev'do multiple times and I can tell it did some damage because my clutch is grabbing higher now. Other than that I am satisfied. read more

Our 2000 Chevy Venture was making alot of noise. I asked my 18 year old son to bring it to Fair Muffler Shops because of the reviews that I read on Yelp. Though some were not good the majority were okay. I thought they would evaluate the noise and then recommend what needed to be fixed. My son called and said that it needed a muffler and a straight pipe and it would be $270 complete. I told him to go ahead and have the work done. After they completed the work, they told my son that the exhaust manifold has a leak and it would be between $650 and $850 to fix depending on the problem and 8 hours of labor to determine the problem. I contacted them and told them how displeased I was and was basically told that they could not identify the problem with the exhaust manifold since the muffler was bad. While I do believe I did need a muffler, after talking with the person I do not feel that they are very good at troubleshooting an exhaust system, and felt that it was going to keep costing me more money to have my exhaust fixed properly by them. I asked if there was anything that could be done to quiet the exhaust manifold and was told no. The car is quite old and I did not want to spend over $1000 to have the exhaust fixed. That might have influenced my decision to use that money toward a different car, but now I have sunk another $270 into it and still have a car that has an exhaust leak. I would not recommend bringing your car there. read more

I have been going there for over thirty years. Fair changed owner ship in 2003!! I just found out about the chance, Thought it was the same company. I went there in Nov 2015. I spent $300 for the repair. When I came to pick up my car I was told I needed some additional work. I went back this April for the other repair only then was I told that they would have to replace the parts that I had replaced in November for $300! They had my phone #, they could have called me and informed me ahead of time and given the option of getting every thing done at the same time,but no they did not! So I wasted the $300 I spent in November! I payed a $1000 more in April. I will never go there again!!! I feel I was robbed by them twice!!! read more
