This a throwback to the old time neighborhood hardware store when they carried odd items and catered to the customer who is doing a one time repair and needed some advice. For example, I needed about 3 ft of 14/2 electrical cable and they sell it by the foot off a reel. Everywhere else I would have had to by a minimum of 25 ft in a package. I was taking my client for a walk alongside the shopping plaza. He stopped by the store and asked the owner for advice on installing lighting fixtures as the client had previously been an electrician. Despite my client having vision difficulties, the owner explained his advice in a manner that was highly understandable to the client. For a tiny hardware store in a strip mall, Fairfax Hardware has a terrific array of merchandise. I've gone in about a dozen times for a specific product, and only once did they fail to have it (an odd-sized light bulb, which I later discovered even the local lighting supply stores didn't carry). Fairfax's best feature is its service. Invariably, someone asks (in a genuinely nice way) what I'm looking for, then helps me locate it. Since I'm usually buying low-priced items, I'm impressed by the amount of time and care they devote to helping me. This place is an old-fashioned gem in a world of soulless big-box monstrosities. Not much I can say about Fairfax Hardware - it's the last of the independent, family-owned hardware stores, and I'm glad they're still around! The best thing about it is that Fairfax Hardware has been around since the Fairfax neighborhood was built, and sometimes, they have original parts/hardware from that time. They disappear into that back room and magically return with the item you need - fantastic. The service is friendly and helpful, and they have a great variety of items in the store. I usually go there to see if they have something before I head to the I try the mega stores. You may pay a tiny bit more, but the quality and personalized service is well worth it! Great place! I was looking for some flanges for a shower and bath faucet that I couldn't find anywhere else including the large hardware stores. I was told to try this store, I have never been there before. It's not as big as the other store, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in service and personality... I observed the young staff helping customers and they were all willing to please and very helpful... They were polite, friendly, they said please, thank you and make me feel like my business was appreciated... I was helped by a fellow called Stefan... He searched and searched for the items I was looking for and wouldn't give up... He went as far as to cut a length of pipe fitting to the perfect size... I went to Home Depot nearby to have a key copied, and they had no idea how to copy the key I brought it (was a pretty standard house key.....) The small brick and mortar hardware stores are always the best and Fairfax is above and beyond. Everyone is knowledgeable (embarassingly even the kids less than half my age!) but always helpful and friendly. You may pay a bit more for some things but if you value service and local businesses, please try Fairfax before the big box home center stores. The folks at Fairfax are always honest and helpful. Great old school mom-n-pop hardware store. Staff is VERY friendly and the sales people (mostly kids) even dress up in ties. Classy. You can tell they care about doing a good job here and pride themselves on serving the community, two things that are pretty unheard of in the day of corporate store mentality (i.e., who cares about the customer). I find I will go here over Lowes or Home Depot just to support them. Prices are reasonable/comparable to chain stores. read more

Needed a key copied and figured I'd get it done at Lowe's while I was up that way, but they didn't have the proper size key. I asked the man at Lowe's if he had any suggestions and he mentioned Fairfax Hardware. So glad he did! What a nice bunch of people! From the young men , (dressed so nicely in their shirts and ties!) who helped me with the key, to the lovely woman at the register, there was nothing but kind/polite interactions all around me. I used to come here with my Dad a long long time ago (50+ years). They still have much of the same layout and range of selection (a good thing). They don't have a massive store but you can find what you need along with advice and real service. In and out in 5 minutes with just what you need. Great people and the prices are reasonable. read more

On a scale of five stars, I would ALWAYS rate Fairfax Hardware at least eight or ten stars! They are THAT great! I "discovered" them twenty years ago when I bought a house in the area. Going there for my needs is like going to the old hardware stores I can remember going to with my father eons ago, where the emphasis was on service - I can count on maybe two fingers the number of times over the past two decades that Art's people didn't have what I needed. I have times where I brought something in that I couldn't figure out how to fix and they took the time to take care of it and literally only charge me the $1.26 or so for the few pieces they used! Yes, I occasionally go to the giant box stores but every time I do, I look around in wonderment at why I am there! And in a addition to being an excellent local shop to be supported, the owner regularly hires local high school students to work in the shop and teach them the importance of offering customers great service rather than a simply wave of the hand and a vague "it's over there" gesture when you ask for help! If you are anywhere CLOSE to Fairfax Hardware, this is definitely where you want to go! read more

My family has been going here for longer than I can remember. The staff is unbelievably helpful, and really go out of their way for you. There is also a gumball machine that I believe costs 10 cents per gumball. Not sure if it's still there, but whenever my dad would come here for hardware, I always came for the gumballs :) This is the kind of establishment that we NEED to support; why go to some chain when you could patronize your local hardware store, where the owner knows you? read more
