This is the hotel that time forgot. The property is probably over 30 years old, and i'm guessing the interior was last renovated about 20 years ago. So yes, a lot of the layout and fixtures are dated, but it hasn't seen a lot of use so everything is clean and in good condition for the most part. Location is conveniently right off the 99 highway. Tons of big box shopping and food in the area including Costco. Yes, there are train tracks nearby and of course freeway noise, but the noise level is not terrible depending on which side of the building your room is on - middle of the building will have less noise. We were in town for a track meet at Modesto JC. The staff was so very friendly and welcoming! The facility is very well kept and clean. Our room and bed were comfortable. There are a couple of eateries very close by in walking distance. The hotel also serves great continental breakfast. They're undergoing renovations and told us they won't be a Marriott anymore sometime soon. We had a nice room on the first floor. The baseboards were missing and it was definitely in the middle of being changed up but it worked out. It didn't have any weird smells and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was great. Being a VERY frequent Marriott patron I stopped here for a short overnight after a long day of driving. Room was fine. Clean and quiet. The issue at this hotel is strictly about the poor customer service and horrible attitude that the front desk has. Being an Elite member, one of the perks one earns for the loyalty to the Marriott brand is a late check out. Normal check out time is noon. I had an 11:30 conference call and requested a bit of a late check out at about 8am. The front desk "girl" refused my request (even though the hotel was 3/4 empty) saying that late check out was only for GOLD Elite members. While this is not true, instead of arguing with her I chose to arrange for a later call and do it in the car while driving. 11:45 comes and the room phone rings as I'm walking out the door. It's the front desk calling to "remind" me again that I need to be out by noon. I stopped by the front desk to get a printed copy of my receipt and asked the guy at the front desk about the late check out issues. His response was that he wasn't the manager (pretty sure he was) and that there wasn't one around. Pathetic representation of the Marriott brand. If you're looking for a place to stay in Modesto, this isn't it. Drive down the road to another hotel. read more

The stay was fine, the room was clean and well equipped. No noise from the hallways. This was very last minute for my family since we needed to stop somewhere for the night from a long day on the road and still another day afterwards. However, once we started driving on the road again we realized we forgot a couple things in the fridge. When we called the hotel we were nicely told that the housekeeper didn't even check the fridge and we could come back. So we quickly turned around. My partner went in and they walked him to the room just for the housekeeper to lie and say she did not see anything there. One thing is throwing things out and the another thing is lying. I would rather have appreciated the truth. Just a part of customer service. Someone here lied. read more

Came for a work trip. I loved how quiet it was. Hotels in the san jose and Fremont areas were always so annoyingly loud. It's peaceful here. Walking distance from mcdonalds, del taco and dennys. Across the freeway there are also so many options. House cleaning cleaned each day which I appreciate. Wish the pillows were thicker and noticed first day one had makeup on it. That's the only thing I found wrong with the place. Online they don't really mention the breakfast options. I saw oatmeal with like 6 topping (coconut, pumpkin seed, granola, brown sugar, etc), hard boiled eggs, activa, scrambled, sausage, waffle maker, coffee, juice, and bagels. It's better than most hotel options. Did I love it? No but I didnt have to worry to find a place to eat before rushing to work. Favorite part: the silence. Air conditioning and heater is better than most places. Not too loud either. read more

After about the 3rd train passing I called to ask the front desk about if the trains run all night to which they said they didn't know. I stayed here for one night and had a wonderful experience. Located right off the freeway and plenty of free parking. This hotel has a lot of construction/utility workers. Check in was quick and easy. I stayed on the 2nd floor, a few doors from the elevator. The room has a fridge, microwave and was very, very quiet. I slept really well and wasn't interrupted by any loud sounds or guests. The room also has a small A/C and heater unit by the window that works really well! The fitness center is tiny! One treadmill, one elliptical, weights, water cooler and towels. There's also a small sauna. It does the job if you want a quick workout/run. The morning breakfast is a nice bonus: coffee, prepackaged food (sausage and biscuits for example), hard boiled eggs, yogurt, variety of breads/pastries and fruits. Plenty of coffee, juices and milk too. Definitely enjoyed my brief stay. It's a older hotel but the customer service and free amenities make up for it. read more

The walls surrounding the lot have both barbed wire and razor wire. Tells you a lot about the neighborhood. The hotel is dated, obviously built as something else but then converted to the Marriott brand. Rooms are ok, not a single USB port though. Carpets and other fabrics showing age, maintenance isn't great. Parking is tough, a bit of a walk if you're not coming early. I came late, scared a security guard who began telling me I couldn't park in that spot (right next to where he was parked, and sleeping) because it was for "big truck". His English wasn't good enough to understand I didn't find any other spaces. There's not much in the area, however. It still may be the best lodging in Salidas. read more

amendment: 2 Just talked to the owner of this property. Mr Patel. He made it very clear that he would not be doing anything to rectify any issues. He said that because I checked in at 4 and didn't notice the safety issues later there was no reason to refund the money. Even if we left because we felt our car would have been broken into or vandalized. He said that "thinking" it might happen wasn't a reason to leave. He then asked if I ever parked my car anywhere in the bay area. Ya he wanted to argue the issue. The fact is that at 4pm when we check in we didn't see the safety issue. We did not use the room. We just check in. 5 hours later we returned to the hotel and I determined our car and property would not be safe here. We left and now he doesn't understand why a refund is in order. Do not stay here. amendment: 1 We didn't stay at this hotel because we didn't feel safe. The story as to why is bellow. In the days fallowing we have tried to work with the hotel to get a refund. They just told me that feeling like our car might be broken into was not a reason for a refund. So I ask you. would you pay for a place you didn't feel safe in? No longer will I ever stay at a Fairfield inn or a Marriott hotel Original Post: To be fair the room and lobby seemed to be nice. Pleasantly surprised, based on the other reviews. Room was comfortable. Check-in was fast and friendly. There's a pool, but I did not see it. As a gold member I got the fastest internet for free, and it worked good. The neighborhood is not so nice. On the way to the car I found a vagrant digging through the trash dumpsters. But he didn't bother me. Maybe you should make sure nothing valuable is visible in your car. read more

I am doing this review because the benefits here is more than the rating deserves. Near food freeway access and fuel. The place is only dated if you stay at high end Marriotts. Don't book last minute as then the price is too high. I do suggest a room further from the freeway but with ear plugs you are good to go. We booked a hotel here based on being close to our soccer tournament. We were told due to the wild fires our tournament was cancelled. I called to cancel at 5am. Apparently, Christina thinks I should have cancelled with 48 hours, but I can't predict fires and air quality. I am a hotel coordinator for our team, I will not be booking through this hotel. Ever. Again. I hope people reading this post realize the business practices this hotel follows knowing people can't make it when there's natural disasters, such as wildfires. This brand new Fairfield Inn is my favorite place to stay in the Modesto/Oakdale area. It offers terrific accommodations, a hot breakfast, great staff, all local newspapers plus USA today, shining clean everything, non-smoking, wonderful beds. Price is right at about $100. Parking is convenient; spaces wrap entirely around the facility. A nice size pool is provided for a quite swim. Well maintained grounds add to the experience. Marriott also offers an older Courtyard south a few miles but forget it. This is a super great place for an overnight or a two week stay. Several blocks away is a large shopping center area with a wide selection of restaurants. You probably can tell I like this place. We spent two weeks here while my father-in-law was having health problems. This facility made it work for me. It was a respite care facility for me and my wife during an otherwise pretty terrible experience. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. read more

For what this hotel is supposed to be and what it is priced at it is fine. What is it supposed to be? A 3 star hotel (actually a 2.5 star hotel according to most travel websites). Meaning you shouldn't be expecting to be blown away, but you should expect to have your basic hotel needs met. Positives: My room was clean and spacious enough far away from the train tracks and freeway as I had requested the bed was comfortable enough the shower produced warm water at satisfactory pressure. Bonus points for good sized mini-fridge. I usually bring a lot of fruits, vegetables, and beverages when I travel, but don't have anyway of keeping them all fresh because the mini-fridges offered at most similar hotels are so small. The fridge here was actually quite spacious. Bonus points for very fast wifi speed. Definitely better than most hotels I've visited, including some high end ones. Negatives: If somebody in the hallway closes the door you will likely hear it if you're paying attention The refrigerator buzzed way too loudly which is definitely a negative if you're a light sleeper. Can't say the breakfast was very continental. The hotel offered a batch of scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles, and various breads and cereals. I've been to similar hotels where the complimentary breakfast was actually made fresh and to my specifications. $75 a night for a hotel in Modesto? I get rooms at better hotels at cheaper rates at places I actually want to go to read more

Reasonable price, free hot breakfast in the morning, clean, comfortable rooms, makes you feel very welcome as you walk in, quiet and I had a good night's rest. Why only 2 stars you ask? Very disappointed in the front desk service. My husband and I are truck drivers, we book with various Marriott locations weekly.... And have never experienced this issue. We arrived at 12noon to an empty parking lot and very hopeful to check in early after 10hrs on the road....the man at the front told us to come back in an hour with no empathy or accommodating suggestions. we agreed to wait at dennys next door. Returned promptly in an hour. The management enthusiastically greeted us, then passed us back to the original front desk gentleman. As soon as we presented that we would be using a friends and family discount he began to quiz us on the fine print of the discount and quickly informed that this location would not honor the "Marriot friends and family" discounted rate since we are truck drivers. NEVER HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS IN ALL OUR MANY MANY stays with other locations. We were tried and needed rest before continuing work in the morning so we just took the lost and booked elsewhere. We had a soccer tournament in Manteca. We have about 10 kids with us. After checking in at 10pm we were already told to be quite. Not a family friendly hotel. I felt like we were at a citizen hotel. Our kids was playing in the room and watching tv we again got told to be quit. Kids are kids. They were very rude employees, specially the front desk. They even tried opening our kids room. Who does that :/ I had complain at the front desk in the morning about the situation instead the lady at the front desk, who is very rude, wont bother listening to my complaint. Instead she turn around and accused my kids of screaming and playing. Well who wouldn't scream if your trying to barge into someones room. I hate this hotel and will never go back. So a lot of the complaints of previous reviews are on point--safety, etc. My issue tonight is with the inadequate laundry facilities. One washer and one dryer for the entire hotel? There's literally a line of People waiting to use it. For the price we paid, and being a Marriott brand, I expected a lot better. I've stayed at many Marriott hotels. From Palo Alto to small towns in WA and I'm always pleased with my stay. I've also stayed in motel 6's and everything in between. This "motel" is a disgrace to Marriott. It was dirty, my room smelled awful, every time I flushed the toilet the water was forced over the seat and all over the floor, the staff wasn't friendly or helpful! (except for a young man in training, he was nice and trying to learn) If you care about your car, don't even think about staying here! There's barbwire around the fence on the back wall but you could just walk around the fence because it's completely open on all sides so the barbwire is almost an invitation to thieves. The cameras don't capture all angles either. I asked staff about vandalism and she said it happens a few times a month and it had just happened the week I stayed. The owner will let you know it is your fault for staying there. This hotel is horrific for the price you pay! This review has nothing to do with the neighborhood. If you are lucky to not score the freeway side you have to contend with a freight train at the back of the hotel. I think it came by 3 times during the night blaring its horn. Overall, this is a pretty clean and friendly hotel. Great house cleaning, warm breakfast in the mornings, a ton of parking, and free wifi. The biggest downside is that from certain rooms you can hear the train going by at somewhat inconvenient hours. Security cameras don't cover the whole property lot There were not any security guards even though this property staff reported this issue several times in past enough to know right where I parked when I came back to the lobby upset. There was also a 2nd vehicle vandalized same morning. This place is disgusting. Horrible service. Very questionable neighborhood. Saturday nights seem to be occupied by some sort of church so parking for the hotel guests who pay,is a lack there of. We came in for baseball in Ripon so only stayed Saturday night and I will never stay there again. Very overpriced for a Motel 6 type of room. Breakfast was absolutely disgusting, beds squeaked and mattresses were pathetic. The best part about the hotel is that they offer Pantene products, NOT! Our TV didn't work so I called the front desk clerk. He came to the room to fix it and couldn't. All he said was well I don't know what to do. So to top it off, my family had no television during our stay. I wasn't given a discount or offered another room. The hallway had food particles and trash in it when we walked to our room on Saturday and too our surprise it was still there on Sunday when we checked out. Sunday morning when my family went to attempt breakfast there were questionable looking people, 8-10 of them holding DMV paperwork and they all proceeded to the conference room off the lobby to do whatever they do. Definitely a DO NOT STAY KIND OF PLACE!!!! There was obvious water damage to the room ceiling, cobwebs and several windows from the exterior of the building had missing or ripped screens. The room smelled like moth balls and left us congested. This place is a huge disservice to the Marriott brand. Do not waste your money here unless you get it for $29 a night, it isn't worth a penny more. read more
