We got transferred here after our holiday inn express reservation ended up falling through. Located in Chinatown, it can definitely feel a little unsafe at night, but it is lively with many restaurants and bars around. It's also close to Capitol one arena. The hotel itself is solid. The bathroom, specifically the shower, is pristine. However the airflow in the rooms is horrid. Also we had several elevator hiccups that took a long time to get up and down. It is connected to an Irish bar though, which is lit after caps games. The free continental breakfast was pretty standard, and we even got a motivational speech from one of the workers. Overall I wouldn't be sprinting back to stay here. read more

This used to be a nice hotel but it's rundown. I stayed for three nights and didn't get my room cleaned ONCE. I asked the front desk several times and they were clueless on how to get the room cleaned. The bathroom was beat up, needs an upgrade and the room stunk of cigarettes. I had to change rooms because the smell was so bad but the other room still had an odor. There were so many things wrong with this hotel. Some of these are genuniely problematic, and some is just knit-picking. But all of it is beneath Marriott's standards and reputation, especially in a city like Washington. (1) Arrived to find the bellhop obstructing the entire vestibule and entrance with empty luggage carts, while he played on his phone and couldn't care less that guests couldn't get in the building. (2) Pretty rude, disinterested front desk staff at check-in; she acted like I was inconveniencing her by being there. (3) Air conditioner in the room was so incredibly loud that it nullified any use of the television; you couldn't watch TV without blasting the audio to drown out the A/C. (4) The closet door is broken, with the top hinge loose and the door basically resting in the door jamb. (5) There are no outlets in proximity to the bed, only USB ports... which are now obsolete. (6) The pillows are so ungodly uncomfortable that I got a stiff neck the first night, and zero sleep the second night. (7) All of the clocks in the room, even somehow the TV, are wildly wrong. (8) Bathroom sink faucet is crooked with no real pressure or temperature control; you either get a dribble or a fire hydrant. (9) Toilet flushing handle is loose and loud. (10) Shower curtain offers no protection from water hitting the bathroom floor; the floor was absolutely soaked when I showered... now I know why they gave me six towels for a two-night stay. Are all of these that big a deal? No. But for the brand, the cost, and the destination, these felt more like a crappy motel than a Marriott. I should have stuck with Hilton. read more

Bottom Line: Good location and comfortable rooms. Fairfield Inn is on the lower end of the Marriott chain but this is still a decent hotel. I like that it is close to coffeeshops like Starbucks, eateries like Corner Bakery Cafe and sundry stores like Walgreens. Being located in DC's Chinatown there are a lot of local places nearby too serving pizza, Mediterranean, deli sandwiches and yes, Chinese food. Another thing I like about this hotel is that the decor is inspired by the local Chinese culture. A third thing that is nice about this hotel is that it's one block from the Gallery Place Metro station that serves the Red, Yellow and Green lines. As a frequent traveler and Marriott Platinum member I know I can be a bit picky but where this hotel fell short for me was at the front desk. The gentlemen who checked me in seemed checked out and totally mumbled. Some other minor things too like no refrigerators in the room and a malfunctioning A/C unit. The Fairfield Inn breakfast has never been good in my opinion but this location gets bonus points for the super nice man patiently helping guests with the waffle maker. read more

I've stayed at this hotel twice, and both times I've walked away thinking the place is cozy, comfy, and a decent place to stay. It's located in Chinatown, and is in an ideal location - the convention center is nearby, the metro is easy to access, and you can walk to a number of great D.C. attractions and eateries. The design and color scheme of the hotel is beautiful. The lobby is clearly designed with Asian artwork or even a tea room in mind, and the bedrooms feature photos of lanterns and other colorful subjects. And every time I've stayed here the front desk staff have been fantastic. One once went as far as apologizing that we drove in through rain (really, that wasn't your fault guys!). While the building is beautiful and the staff consistently wonderful, the rooms aren't perfect. The showers leave a lot to be desired, with a non-adjustable shower head and inconsistent water pressure. The breakfast set-up is also a little tight, as the silverware table has been set up in front of the elevators during at least one of my stays. Since the hallway between the elevators and the breakfast room gets quite narrow, no one really enjoyed the extra navigation challenges this made. Parking and car access is by valet only, so unfortunately getting the car can take a while if you need it. Sometimes I worry about getting into the driver's seat once the car is brought around since the parking is set up directly in front of the hotel, on a very busy public street. You'll definitely want to be careful if you have children and you come and go via car. During my most recent visit I also ran into a problem of inconsistent wi-fi - which is admittedly frustrating but it happens. More annoying was that the maid staff disregarded the "hang your towel" policy the hotel itself posted in our room, and kept replacing all of our towels despite our efforts to use them more than once. If nothing else, I hope THAT issue is addressed ASAP. None of the problems I mentioned here are deal-breakers by any means, but they do lead to me thinking of this hotel as an OK one. Its location and great staff go a long way and my family would definitely consider staying again - we just wouldn't complain if a few tweaks are made to improve that stay. read more

Great location only a block from the Gallery Place Metro station. As with all of Marriott's Fairfield properties, the Internet access is free, there is a free breakfast in the morning and there is coffee in the lobby all day. As well, a coffee maker in the room with a large flat screen television. Fairfield is the bottom tier of Marriott's brands, but it's still a good choice for the economically minded. My room was plenty big (I spent a lot of time there) with a comfortable bed, sofa and worktable. The television had an alternative input on it, so I could have connected my laptop to it if I wished. The room was very quiet, other than the church bells across the street. No noise from neighbors, no noise from the hallway and no other noise from the street. The room was cleaned and serviced well the one day while I was out and the other day that I had the "do not disturb" I was not disturbed. My only complaint is that the towels were a bit... crunchy. Certainly not as soft as the ones I have at home. But they were clean and that's really what matters. read more

The staff said they would switch for us in the morning but when the morning came they said they couldn't. Too bad so sad. The valet folks were nice to us but not to each other. We got to hear them cursing at each other. Lucky for us we were not involved in their spat. I did not partake breakfast but my fiance did. He said it was, "ok." He was super impressed with the staff. He said they were so happy to be serving breakfast. He said they thanked everyone for having breakfast with them. Didn't eat at the restaurant attached to the hotel since it was packed each time we went. Instead we ended up at other fabulous places. I love that you can walk around and discover just about anything in that area. Really didn't like the noise but it was a trade off considering all the great things to do. We ended up at a quiet hotel later during our stay and had nothing to do. Seriously though I think we are hotel snobs. We didn't book this hotel since it was booked for a conference by the employer. This is honestly a two star hotel/motel masquerading as something better. I'm disappointed that Marriott would allow this hotel to leverage its name without being clear that is basically nothing like a normal Marriott property. It's run-down. There are no conference rooms. Staff isn't particularly helpful. The AC in the room is incredibly loud and the room itself felt like a cave - even the "upgraded room". Overall, don't be fooled by the convenient location as I was. I really enjoyed my stay here...it's conveniently located 2 blocks from the Chinatown Metro stop and therefore a good central location to get to any and all parts of DC. In the area are a ton of different restaurant options as well as some museums. The hotel itself is great - brand new with the basic amenities one needs. The rooms were very comfortable and have a modern flair, which is great. Hotel staff members were very friendly and helpful. They serve a nice breakfast in the morning, which is nice for travelers, especially those with children. I'd highly recommend this spot! read more

The hotel is about a 15-minute drive from the airport. It's in a great location and is walking distance to restaurants and bars, convenience stores/drugstores, museums, and Capital One Arena. If you don't want to walk, you can always resort to taxis and scooters. WiFi and daily full breakfast in the lobby are included. We got a corner king suite. The only things I was not a fan of was: there is no air circulation in the bathroom (nor in the lobby bathroom), and the room's refrigerator temperature was set too high at about 39*F (and I think it was probably warmer than the reading). The employees are all very, very friendly and hospitable, most notably the breakfast cook Dion (sp?) and the valet guy Jackson (who is very knowledgeable about the city and its history). They always have cold, refreshing water in the lobby. They also have loaner umbrellas at the front desk; when they ran out, they had some for sale at $7.50 each. read more

So far so good. Breakfast has many hot and cold options and the staff, concierge, and desk were helpful. The downsides are that the closet and bathroom are pretty small than average. Even in hotels like Howard Johnson and Microtel, the outside sink portion and mirror are separate and more spacious. Love the fact that they list breakfast hours on a plaque next to the breakfast room. It is one of those questions that everyone wants answered. Also, I like the programming they have on the computers in their business center. One can choose to use the defaulted time, after logging on or extend to an amount that they can plan to be done with their computer time by. After that, it clears everything off. 8/24/2019 Deon was on point this morning. He introduced all of the guests in the break room to the staff. Also, he helped with cutting my bagel and toasting it. I should have videoed it on posted it on youtube. I have always wanted to have a video go viral! Suggestion: It would be nice if they posted a sign with the floor #s on Fitness Center and Pool access at the lobby level. There is a display in the elevator that lists the floors and what significant rooms can be accessed; however, since guests really note these two amenities, it would be helpful to have the listed on the lobby level as well. read more

The staff was lovely patient and helpful. Unfortunately the room felt dirty and run down when we arrived, outlet on wall was falling out after it looked like someone tried to do a really bad patch job on wall and stick it on, empty nails on wall where a picture must supposed to be hanging, bathroom tub had broken parts. The Marriott website stated this is a "newly renovated" hotel, I am not sure what exactly was renovated. The king room could NOT have been smaller or we would have zero room to get around the bed. The breakfast and coffee was not good. The location was fine to get to metro and close sights but the block this hotel is on (H street) the walk towards metro was unsettling anytime but really didn't feel safe after dark venturing out unless we took a different walking route to exit than the walk from H street & 5th and entered the metro from F street on opposite side of Capital One Arena read more

We just stayed at this hotel for about 6 nights! It was recommended by a friend that used to stay there when he worked in DC. My husband and I LOVED it! It was a great location in Chinatown. Just down from a METRO station. Lots of places to eat and easy to get to museums!! The front desk was super friendly and helpful. The concierge on duty recommended places to eat and called us a cab for the airport. To our surprise it was a town car instead for same price!! The breakfast area does get busy but we also took advantage of the hotel being next door to a Corner bakery. More relaxing and quite! Only cons were that there is no safe in room and the towels were a little thin. Other than that bed was comfy and it was super clean!!! Very tastefully decorated also. They also let us change rooms due to our window looking just into an alley and another side of a buidling. We then looked over 5th St at a beautiful church! Thanks! My husband and I stayed here for a weekend trip to DC. We chose this hotel because of its location- right in the middle of downtown with a ton of eating options and all of the museums/ monuments within walking distance. While the location was nice the room itself was nothing special, quite small with a window view of an alley with dumpsters which I suppose is to be expected of a hotel in the city. There was also no mini fridge in the room which was a slight inconvenience. There was fresh water and coffee in the lobby at all times and breakfast included which was nice. Overall a great location but we would probably choose another hotel next time for the price paid. Side note when budgeting for your stay parking is $50 a day. read more

The service and location truly make up for the lack luster room. The people here were really nice and really try to accomodate your every need. That being said, the $150 price point isnt reflected in your room. The tv is at least 10 years old. The shower kind of spits at you lol. The rooms are relatively small. I stayed with another person for 5 nights in a double room. We got a deal on the room if we stayed 4 nights or more. The room was very small, and the closet was approximately 12 inches deep so you have to hang your clothing facing you. The AC unit rattled loudly, the remote didn't work and the room was so humid it felt damp. No coffee or cups but we had a coffee maker, no ice bucket but we had 2 Plastic cups. A few days into our trip, we discovered a black box under the AC unit that was either a roach or mouse box! They don't clean the rooms every day which we didn't know until we asked. This should be told upon checking in or earlier. Maybe if they cleaned the rooms daily they could get rid of the pest boxes in the rooms. The price was right with many restaurants and the Arena nearby. The front desk staff and the housekeeping in the halls were very friendly. We didn't drive so I cannot comment on the parking garage or lack of. The free breakfast was fine similar to most free hotel breakfasts. The neighborhood is very sketchy at night. Great location. Reserved a room with one king sized bed. Checked in got to the room and discovered that we had two fulls instead. The closet door doesn't close and the heater doesn't work. Maintenance came to fix the heater and door. I had to deal with the room smelling like it was on fire for over an hour after he finished and the work required was extremely loud. I came here expecting a nice getaway with some peace and quiet and I had to spend most of time calling guest services to get things fixed and nothing was ever resolved on the first call. read more

I had the opportunity to stay here while attending the Capital One Arena for a Wizards game. First of all if that is where you are going this place is SUPER close. It is also smack down in the middle of a bunch of food shops in Chinatown and a block away from the Metro. Our room was lovely and faced out to the street on the 5th floor. It was just enough space, had a flat screen tv, and a lovely spaced bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was lovely and featured yogurt, omelettes, sausage, ham, cereal, oatmeal and a bunch of other goodies. Translation it was quite filling. read more

At first coming in i'm scowled at by the front desk employees before asked if i'm checking in, no help with bags until after I've returned back to the main lobby. I had booked a king and received two full size beds, went and spoke to the front desk wondering what happened to the room I reserved. Was told that they gave it to someone else. The fact that one they thought it would be fine to just give me any room, especially one with blood stains on the lamp shade, fridge that did not work AT ALL and more blood stains on the comforter of the second bed also a missing lamp shade on the third light would be okay. so the whole room just felt run down. This has been a great hotel in a fantastic location. Surrounded by lots of food options and blocks away from the national mall. Hotel is clean with faux hardwood floors that make everything feel modern and clean. Breakfast is simple but sufficient. But beyond the accommodations the staff here are great at their jobs. Especially T'kara, who I've now seen on multiple evenings (as I'm here on an extended work stay and often convening in the lobby with colleagues) interacting with guests, problem solving, and always remaining calm even when guests appear agitated for reasons well out side her control. She has been the most helpful and professional concierge and I hope management knows how incredible she is. As for the hotel itself, remember that we're coming out of a pandemic, and interactions are limited for this fact. I take my own trash to the floor trash next to the ice machine every morning when I leave, but have also been told I can leave the bin outside my door to be dumped. I see people complaining that cleaning isn't occurring everyday - and personally, I don't want a new person coming into my room every day - vaccinated or not. It's easy to get new towels, amenities (tp, coffee, etc) from the front desk, and it's safer for the employees and guests, so I'm not mad about it. Also the rooms have an asian inspired (Japanese I believe) flair that makes them fun and welcoming. read more

Heating unit needed to be cleaned badly (we do HVAC for a living). Would loudly rattle. Floors were sticky and they forgot to make up the room. NOTE: If you are going to use the parking garage be advised that it is NOT clearly labeled. The "motto hotel" has no signage as such. The entrance is on 6th St and is labeled "Gallery." TV has basic cable, ancient input panel and no apps. The only benefit is that the neighborhood is slightly better than the rest of DC (not saying much) We ran into a couple of helpful employees downstairs but most of the staff looked as though they'd rather chat with each other than help customers. read more

We chose to book a hotel block for our wedding guests through the Fairfield Inn, and had a wonderful experience. Our points of contact were very communicative and responsive to our questions. They were also very flexible when plans changed or we had last-minute requests, such as arranging early check-in times for a handful of our guests. This enabled us to get ready early in some rooms with our friends. The Fairfield Inn staff were kind and very competent in all our interactions. We had a lovely stay in the bridal suite, and all our guests were also very comfortable and well taken care of. read more

Stayed here for 3 nights, July 13-16 with family (4 of us). The room was a little small but met all of our requirements. Its was furnished with a small refrigerator and microwave which was very convenient. The breakfast had a nice variety and promptly restocked when selections became low. The staff was excellent, very professional and courteous. The location of the hotel is two blocks from the Galley Place Metro Station and reasonably close to where you could walk to the National Mall. Unfortunately this location is not in the greatest neighborhood and the area around the Gallery Place Station was filled street people opening using drugs. This is not an area where you would want your children. I wanted to be fair with my evaluation of this hotel with 4 out 5 stars but would not stay at this location again based on the element I saw roaming the streets around the hotel. read more

Otherwise, the inside is dated and desperately needs a rehab. Also, i should warn you to please check your car and take pictures before you valet as our was damaged with a big door ding. The location of this hotel was great. It was close to the Chinatown area and was within walking distance to a lot of things. This hotel offers free breakfast on weekdays and weekends. The staff was friendly and the hotel was clean. The place loses a star because the room was very small. Also, it is located next to a a very noisy building. It sounded like a really loud generator that turned on REALLY EARLY in the morning. I was woken up each morning at about 6am from all the noise. Cabs don't really wait outside of this hotel but thankfully they had a private car on standby that was able to take me to the airport when I needed to go home. read more

Can't believe I'm the first to review. This hotel was recently renovated. The lobby and rooms are redone. Lobby is asian-esque but modern and bright. The room furniture was great. No complaints about the mattress or bathroom. Two best things about this hotel: 1) Location: It's right in the heart of downtown. 3 min walk from the Verizon Center and all the action on 7th ave. and 15min walk from the Mall and museums. 2) Complimentary breakfast: My gf and I had such a fun time every morning in the breakfast area. There were so many fruit cups and yogurt to choose from. I liked the microwavable ham/cheese mcmuffin. There was also a waffle maker, a variety of fruit and tons of cereal. It was a pretty comprehensive breakfast and seemingly everyone who stays at the hotel gets involved. So it gets pretty festive/crowded. Wish they had a rooftop pool! But I guess this is a pretty old building and it would be tough to install the plumbing for something like that. Nevertheless you can't beat the location and the price. I have stayed at this hotel on two different occasions. One was for business and another was a free night using hotel points. both experiences were exactly the same: Wonderful! I have noticed some hotels give out crappy rooms when you are using points. This was not the case for me....and I actually had a better room than I did when I paid for it! The rooms are clean and updated. The place is a bit trendy but not so much that it gets in the way. The staff were all very friendly. The front desk staff were attentive and helpful. I requested a fridge for my room and they had it up to me within 15 minutes of check-in. The maintenance guy seemed happy with his job (which I tend to use as a real judge of how the place is run). He was in a good mood and wasn't afraid of a quick casual conversation. The location is what I like best about this hotel. The 5th & H area is vibrant and close to many restaurants, bars, and happenings. There is a metro stop just a few blocks to give you access to the entire city. Give this hotel a shot if you are in the area. Good local food & drink: Mings - good Chinese food Matchbox - wood fired brick over pizza!!! I booked through Hotels.com that morning and, within an hour of a very early arrival, the desk called me to inform me that my room was ready,... 5 hours before normal check in time. While I waited, they offered the breakfast. Scrambled or boiled eggs, sausage, coffee variety, fruits both whole and prepared, oatmeal with condiments (walnuts, cinnamon, brown sugar... I'm in Heaven). OMG,... free WiFi?, even in the lounge BEFORE my room was even ready? What is this? Oh, did I mention the Kingsize bed? My 6'6" frame was doing the happy dance. Plenty of linens, soft towels, free coffee in the room... I could go on and on. Oh, wait, I have to mention the staff,... friendly, polite and helpful. Not being knowledgeable of the thermostat, I read that it was controlled from a remote location. Not thinking, by the "remote" reference, I called the front desk thinking maybe they controlled room temperature. I was told they would send a maintenance tech to the room to check it for me. He was there in less than 2 minutes,... maybe even within one!!! How's THAT for prompt and efficient? read more

I'm so discouraged and disappointed with this hotels response to our reservation with consideration to corona. DC is shut down with no tours, everything is being cancelled. Yet they will not move the reservation out from our check in of Saturday March 14th. I'm not asking for a refund, just a credit to move and enjoy DC at a later time this year. Yes the reservation was non-refundable, it was the only one left at the time of booking. However ALL other hotels (Hyatt, hilton), 1 overseas hotel, and 2 major airlines have been wonderful and flexible even with non refundable reservations. I travel a lot domestically and internationally Marriott will not be a part of my stays. read more

Stayed 3/30/12 for a couple of nights on a rewards voucher. They put us up in a very well-appointed room on the 9th floor, though it looked into the business office across the alley instead of a street view. No biggie as the room was very nice, decorated in tribute to Chinatown. Pros: 1) VERY comfortable bed and pillows. 2) Artistically pleasing coffee table and comfortable couch w/bed (didn't try the pullout bed) 3) Great shower with good water pressure. It's set up as a galley, so there are crazed patrons milling and clanging about for bagels, muffins and the wafflemaker on one side, while the other side had Active and Light-n-Fit yogurt, refrigerated fruit slices, Jimmy Dean sausage biscuits, and fresh bananas and apples. There is a Corner Bakery just outside if you prefer something a little less dangerous. The hotel staff did a great job with their pleasant attitudes - I would go insane having to deal with that every day. 2) The bathroom was just not-quite-right with it's mini-depth bath. The sink is by the door and the towels are on the far end of the counter by the toilet. The hairdryer is in the closet in a sack. I stayed here 4 nights and 5 days for a work trip and would definitely recommend it to anyone. It's very conveniently located in downtown/chinatown so walking distance for a lot of other cool spots to visit, see, and 1 block away from a metro station. The rooms were very clean, bathroom as well. Water pressure in the shower was great so definitely not one of those weird hotel showers. Beds were very comfortable and pillows soft. The hotel overall felt very clean and the lobby felt safe. After 10pm to enter the hotel you must use your hotel card so heads up but also appreciate the safety of us guests. It's very quiet in the hotel too, for being downtown I was surprised but definitely enjoyed the peacefulness. Best part is the breakfast buffet in the mornings, not just your typical bagel & cream, but they have a great selection of options.
