Came here a month ago and the main level was a "war zone" in full construction mode. Had to come back for one night for work and was concerned but due to lack of hotel options in Yakima came back. This time things were much better. Construction is mostly done with just touch up work being done in the lobby and front desk. To the updated review: Solid option for a short stay. Hotel is clean and staff are friendly. Located close to the freeway for easy access. Room was very comfortable. They had both internet TV and showtime and HBO. Shower water pressure was really good and they have decent to good internet. read more

Fairfield was not fair ~ inexperienced staff unable to answer a few questions concerning Covid protocol. One even voluntarily mentioned they are not sure if the rooms get sanitized. The area is a bit odd ~ residential, retail, industrial all-in-one. A walkable grill & bar across the parking lot, downtown scene a t minute drive, Target walkable but better off driving to avoid riffraff. Despite a dated decor, the rooms appeared to be clean and well maintained. It sufficed for a quick trip just for a bed. read more

Fairfield's can be hit and miss. The ones which are newer construction are on par with other brands within the Marriott family, but older locations, such as this one in Yakima are habitable, but definitely need help. This location recently went through a remodel, but it is mainly common spaces, as the rooms still need work. Fairly comfortable beds but nothing else really to write home about. Location in Yakima is not the best - off the Interstate - so use this location if you are passing through - not a lot to offer, so a one night stay should suffice. Breakfast buffet was an absolute scrum/madhouse - layout is not conducive to flow and the offerings are nothing special - processed everything. Enjoy. read more

This is one of the older Fairfield Inns that I've been in, but they've done a good job keeping it up so it's not totally falling apart.The service was great, from check in to breakfast to housekeeping always saying hello with a friendly smile when you pass by in the hallway. We got upgraded since our elite membership status still rolled over due to the pandemic, and the room was pretty big for 2 people to spread out. There were 2 tvs, but it wouldn't have been possible to watch them both at the same time as there's no way to block out the noise from the other programming. The bathroom had lots of counter space and a modern shower stall. The toilet was super low. Just calling that out for any elderly folks or those with mobility issues. Their gym was super updated and modern. 2 treadmills, and elliptical, bike, and free weights with a bench. All the cardio equipment had screens to watch tv while you work out. There's a filtered water a dispenser although not sure when they've last cleaned it. There's a tub of sanitizing wipes to wipe before and after you use the machines and weights/bench, as well as towels. I really liked that the windows were frosted so you had privacy, but that might bother some parents that want to look in on their kids in the pool while working out. I also really liked that the room was a little chilly, as it helped once you start working up a sweat. No fans, and no scale. The breakfast buffet is back! Not sure what it was like during the pandemic but everything feels normal now. Most people didn't have masks so this may bother some folks. The food options were carbs (toast, muffins, etc), eggs (scrambled and hard-boiled), meat (turkey sausage and bacon), fruit (the chopped options tasted like they came from a can with syrup so I'd stick with the whole bananas, oranges, and red apples if you can), small Chobani yogurt cups, cereal, and oatmeal with toppings. read more

No EV charging, only Tesla. Was given option to plug car into exterior outlet that was broken. Pool area was long overdue for paint and repair. Hot tub not working. Staff was incredibly kind and considerate. Manager was supportive. Owner of this hotel should be embarrassed with the poor quality. Holiday inn 2 blocks away would be better option, at a lower price too! Very new and modern. This Fairfield inn needs to be torn down and rebuilt from ground up. read more

This is a run of the mill Fairfield. Slightly older. Nothing special. It's not a bad place but I would never stay here again and this is why. The front desk was never staffed during my stay. I was here for four days/three nights and not once - not one time, was there any staff at the desk. You had to call for them. And when they did come, well that was utterly unpleasant. A young woman named Kalie (Calie) was easily, the least engaged, the least helpful, the least responsive, the least interested, hotel employee I have encountered in my travels around the world. She never greeted me. She sort of threw my keys at me when I checked in. She never, ever, ever, smiled. She never said anything resembling a "thank you." In my opinion, it is clear that she is not remotely interested in her job. I had a problem with my key, finally got her to stop chatting up her boyfriend (who was sitting with her in the lobby). She came to the front desk and said "what?" (You cannot make this stuff up.) I told her my key didn't work. She gave me new keys. Sort of threw them at me again. Never apologized. Never said boo. It was downright creepy. I will find another place to stay. Unhelpful should be the title of this review. I can only assume this young woman is related to the manager. Otherwise, I would find it implausible that she has a job in hospitality at this location. read more

We stayed here for two nights over New Year's. For the last several years we've been staying at the Howard Johnsons/Gateway at 9 North 9th Street, for our annual winter visit to relatives here, but this year it was closed. We'd heard the Fairfield had a great breakfast buffet, so I'll lead with that. The coffee was very good. The buffet had scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and paper-thin bacon. All quite good. There were three kinds of cold cereal, and one of my kids enjoyed what I guess was Froot Loops. They had three kinds of mini muffins. Next to the toaster there was wheat bread, plain bagels, and English muffins. The first pass through the rotating toaster was quite light, while the second pass was a bit burnt. I didn't want to change their settings, so I tried "snapping" the bread deep into the toaster with two fingers, giving it less toasting time. That worked great. For spreading on the toast they had butter, jam, and peanut butter. They had two cut fruit selections, both good, and whole oranges. One day, one of the fruit selections was all pineapple, which I enjoyed very much. For juice they had cranberry and apple. No orange. They had high quality, delicious Chobani Greek yogurt in blueberry and strawberry. All was good except that on the second day, when I arrived minutes after opening time, it looked to me like the eggs were either yesterday's or overdone. Still good but not as great. Compared to the breakfast buffet at the Howard Johnson's/Gateway, I'm not sure I'd rate it much higher. The Howard Johnson/Gateway consistently did their scrambled eggs absolutely perfectly. And their hash browns were always perfectly done though a bit bland. And their link sausages were quite good. They had orange juice but it seemed watered down. So I'd rate the Fairfield's breakfast buffet a bit better than Howard Johnson's/Gateway, but not by much. If Fairfield did their eggs as beautifully well, and added excellent hash browns, and orange juice, then I'd call it 5-star. Okay, that's a lot about their breakfast! Here's how the rest went: They emailed us a link to check in remotely, but I didn't see how to do so with it. It wanted to sell me a new reservation. Gave up on it after a while. When we went to check in and gave the very friendly desk clerk our reservation name, she too tried to sell me a new reservation! She seemed startled to learn that we had already paid. One of the two cards she gave us didn't work, so I had to go back for new ones. For a family of four, the double room was pretty tight; there were few good places to place suitcases and bags. Of the two chairs, one at the desk, the other was off in a corner squeezed tightly between the wall and a bed, far from the window. It was an odd, uninviting placement for a chair. I sleep with a sleep apnea breathing machine. I usually sleep by a wall so I can place the machine on the floor with no risk of the kids stepping on it or kicking it. But here, there were not outlets there. I ended up with an aisle position as there were outlets in the base of the lamp between the beds. I put the machine on the table so it wouldn't get stepped on. We also had some devices recharging there, so we had quite a rat's nest of wires and tubes going on there. There was another outlet at the desk but that was fully utilized for recharging purposes too. The bathroom plumbing and fan were quite loud. Otherwise the bathroom was fine. Lots room in the bathroom compared to the rest of the unit--so much so that one of the kids ended up using it as his hanging out space! The beds were very comfortable; better than the Howard Johnson's/Gateway's weird hyper-bouncy beds. The room had a good desk, television, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. They had placed us near a side door and had suggested parking by it. I did, and since it was not a busy time for them, I was able to park just a couple steps from the door. So when taking stuff back to the car at the end, I didn't bother wearing a coat since the car was so close. But trying to get back in, the card didn't work! It was about 10am, with a Noon checkout time. We tried my wife's card and it was no longer working either. We went to the front desk. I told the desk clerk, a different person this time, that we were checking out, and that our cards had stopped working before checkout time. She replied that checkout time was Noon, as if that's what time it was. It was then about 10:30. I said that it wasn't working by about 10am. Then she said the cards stop working if you put them next to a phone. Which I had. It would have been nice to know about that when the cards were issued. The paper sleeve they gave them to us in should have a big warning on them about that. Then she handed me back the cards. It turned out she'd missed the part about us checking out, and had reset our cards! For the low price, Fairfield was good and I recommend it. But if you can spend more, you can do better. read more

This was by far the worst Marriott property I have ever stayed at. No fault to the manager, but whoever really runs this place blows. No hot tub, not told. Weights missing or nonexistent in the exercise room. Nothing to sanitize equipment. The pool had MOLD in it. The rooms are terrible. No Internet, no excuses, nothing for hours. It's now 10 o'clock at night and I haven't had Internet since I got here SINCE EARLY AFTERNOON. I've been in foreign countries had better Internet than this. I will never, ever, ever stay here again. I would rather stay at a motel 6 than this. And they had nothing to offer for food, no excuses. Really this place is awful awful awful awful awful. Thank God I am only staying here one night and can deal with it and get out the door tomorrow. I went down for a cup of tea and a very sketchy dude was waiting there looking to pounce. Asked me what I was doing here I was like I am not fucking talking to you. This place should be turn down and revamped like so many other properties similar. Yakima", it's an important place for me to stay in for me to continue to support the Marriott brand they need to better build a better place. read more

To make things worse, they never admitted to the obvious error and took forever to get us a second room. Then, just as I was settled, they wanted me to move to yet another room! Lindsey at the front desk was so amazing and helped surprise my fiancé with a birthday banner, card, and champagne in our room when we arriced. We've stayed at this property probably 100 times since it opened. VERY friendly, gal who checked us in 3pm Aug 17th was outstanding and just what we needed after a VERY busy stressful day. Clean, comfortable and the BIG surprise was- Our room had a walk-in-shower. Tub gone. We'd go back just for that! GREAT air-conditioning, rooms well appointed and a short walk to Bob's Burgers, which isn't anything special, but when your tired and don't want to drive it's our go to. There are a lot of choices in Yakima, many newer, but we've never been given a reason to try anything else. This is such a well managed property, OUTSTANDING staff. read more

I gave this stay 2 stars because the staff was friendly and the hotel was clean. I would have given 4 stars but didn't because of 1 reason. They had no bottled water. When I asked why...the reason was because it's their slow season and management didn't want to over order. SERIOUSLY, someone needs to go to the store and get some water for the guests. I am a Platinum Marriott member and that really doesn't matter. I guess I'll stay somewhere else next time. Dumb moves lIke this May make all their seasons slow. ***DISAPPOINTING*** Have stayed in the Spa King Suites. Very nice rooms. ***Management and front desk service are terrible!!!**** Charged $170 per night full rate for Spa King Suites even though I was quoted $124. The full rate includes all amenities, which are not available right now now due to COVID. How are you going to charge full rate rooms with NO amenities AND AWFUL customer service? The worst customer service from any hotel that I have ever stayed in. I actually stayed in the suites on multiple occasions The front desk clerk named "Kaylee" is extremely rude and unhinged. Does not play nice or work well with the public, has zero people skills, is demeaning to customers, does not make you feel welcome and actually argues with customers. She actually screamed at me and my boyfriend in the lobby when I told her that she was being rude. I have spoken with her manager, Manuel, on multiple occasions about the way we have been treated during our stays there. He did NOTHING. I am confident that we would have received better treatment in a sub-standard low grade motel on first street in Yakima than we did with this hotel. I would never stay at this hotel again even if I was given a week's free stay. Customer service is everything. read more

Clean and updated property. The grounds and lobby are well maintained. The staff were kind upon checking in and leaving. Fast wifi connection. The only thing is the regular king rooms are super small as far as square footage but that's not a deal breaker for me as long as things are clean. The mattress and pillows were comfortable. I got a good nights sleep. The room rate was just under $100 which seemed like a good deal for what you're getting. I would recommend staying here for business travel or stopping over during road trips. read more

I'm a Marriott loyalist and choose Marriott whenever possible. However, not super impressed with this one. For one, Styrofoam plates for breakfast, um, I realize I'm from CA but most people know Styrofoam is the worst for our environment. Had trouble with the Wi-Fi for 4 out of 5 days. I'm pretty sure I requested non-smoking but this room smells like someone smoked and they covered it up. The ice scraper they gave me is worse than using my credit card. The TV has like 6 channels and the audio goes in and out. Good things: Breakfast is great. Updated lobby is inviting and beautiful. Staff is friendly and supportive. I slept well until it was trash day. Stay again? Me thinks next time I will stay at the Hilton Gardens downtown Yakima read more

Convenient and quiet location. The breakfast area has good options and better quality compared to most hotels. They hotel and rooms were clean. Our room was near the ice machine. I was a little worried about hearing the noise of the ice maker, but I didn't hear it unless loud people were trying to figure it out. My first stay at a Fairfield and hopefully not my last- the best free breakfast ever and it appears they take pets! The room was comfy and a large bath- the kids across the hall were awful their parents let the run up and down the stairwell from 930 PM for over an hour.... so the sleeep was interupted. The pool is small small small and like a kiddie pool but salt water so I enjoyed that- walking around the area was good. I would recommend this place for the great price I got for government rate. THIS HOTEL HAS A FIRE SAFETY ISSUE! My 16-month-old toddler was shocked by the 220v A/C unit electrical outlet in room #221. The large, 220v outlet does NOT plug in flush with the socket, exposing about 3/4" of the electrical plug hardware. Another adult in our group went to test the socket and was jolted by it before her hand even made contact with the plug! I complained to the hotel and was informed that every single room in the hotel has an outlet that sticks out like that. A sheer curtain in each room hangs VERY, VERY close to this safety / fire hazard, and the general manager did not return my voicemails / request for contact as to how / what their plan was to remedy the fire safety issue. I filed a formal complaint with the City of Yakima Fire Department, and will absolutely be following up to make sure NO ONE's child ever faces electric shock injury / electrocution in this hotel because of this issue. I really do prefer Marriott over other brands, but the staff here are not very polite. They act like they work in the Four Seasons and speak to guests as if we are their gardeners. Really, if you were as important and exceptional as you think you are, why do you not work for your sister company the Ritz? The entire city lost power while we were there and the manager came in even though it was night time to make sure he was available to all the guests. Night staff was not helpful. Common area for groups to meet in the lobby was 83 degrees. Night front desk did not lower thermostat after 2 hours of asking by various people. Our group stayed here last year with no problems. Same area was perfect last year. Cannot enjoy sitting in stuffy 83 degree room. Ruined group bonding time. Night clerk on her personal cell two of the times we asked for help. No one up front most of the night. Hope we find a new location next year. read more

We travel constantly in our company and choose to be Marriott members throughout the United States. I have probably stayed at the Fairfield Inn Marriott Yakima, at least 15 times in the past 3 months. Their service friendliness and willingness to go the extra mile far surpasses any other hotel in its class in the city. When we checked in early this morning they had a situation here at the hotel where a water pipe had burst. I know for a fact that the entire staff worked very hard all day trying to restore water to the hotel. While there is still no water at the hotel after all day I am more impressed with the mannerisms of the hotel staff in the front desk, namely Mercedes, and how they stand and deal with irate customers. The rating I give this hotel is 5 stars without question after numerous stays over very many months. The rating I give the irate customers who have no understanding when you're standing there watching them feverishly work without stopping all day to restore water, I give those irate customers a minus 5 rating. It's one thing when someone is not concerned about the situation at hand, it's a totally different story when everybody from the top of the hotel chain to the bottom of the maintenance staff is on site working round the clock. Just wanted to say thank you to the staff, knowing how hard it is and how much you put up with all day trying to resolve this problem. How you handle a stressful situation says more about who you are, when your doing everything you can to get it right. read more

the customer service at the fairfield inn is really poor... even for a fairfield inn. i had called to book a room as part of a wedding block. i was told from the bride that my reservation wasn't confirmed. i had to call back multiple times because the non-managers i spoke to couldn't help me out. do you really need to find a manager for this? i was a little concerned since there was an end date to the discounted wedding rate and because i have my credit card info and my reservation was no where to be found. i finally got in touch with the manager who 1. never apologized and 2. never acknowledged that it's not cool that i gave someone my credit card number to someone and lord knows what they did that that info. read more

I stay at a lot of Marriotts, including this one, and just wanted to give a shout out to the staff here. The rooms are nice and the amenities are nice as well. The breakfast is better than the usual Fairfield. But the standout this weekend was maintenance man Chris. He saw me putting a tarp over our utility trailer and invited me to store it instead in the hotel's locked shed. He even wrestled the trailer off the hitch and guided it in to the shed himself! She was so friendly, and really understood that I am traveling a lot and went out of her way to get me a comfortable room and to make me feel at home.
