The shop was open on Saturday which was convenient to have the car dropped off. They estimated a week and completed the job perfectly on time. I was looking for an auto shop near my home. Lan and her brother (the mechanic) are so kind. Lan is quick to respond on yelp for quotes, we were messaging back and forth on Thursday. She was able to provide service details and a quote via messenger. I came in on Saturday at 9AM and they were already open and ready to work. My sister got into a car accident about a month ago. She's fine, there wasn't that much damage, and it was the other person's fault. But the car's 15 years old and it turned out the value of the car was less than the cost of repairs. After a lot of debate, we decided to keep the car, take the settlement money (and not fix it), and reregister it through DMV as a total loss salvage vehicle. In order for DMV to declare the car driveable, we needed to find a repair shop which could issue "Brake and Light Inspection Certificates". It was quite difficult to find a shop that does this since not a lot of them do the service since they have to be recertified every 4 years. I made a lot of calls to shops asking whether they do the service or whether they could recommend one who did. Luckily a yelper who was dissatisfied w/ another service told me about Fairground Auto. They gave me the cheapest quote ($80 for a sedan) over the phone, they're open on Saturdays, and were easily able to see me when I called. The shop is huge and very clean. The bathroom's clean and the waiting area is comfortable... I saw a wireless router, so they must have internet access. The auto repair shop and the body shop next door are run by 4 brothers and their sister who is office manager. I had replaced some of the dead headlights before the inspection but they still found some faulty wiring in the brake lights and a dead license plate light. I couldn't bare the thought of making one more trip to Kragen so just asked them to fix it for $30 extra (bargained down from $40). I would highly recommend them since they were up front about problems they knew would fail inspection and gave me a choice to fix it on my own or have them fix it. I can not thank Lan and everyone over at Fairground Auto Repair enough. They made a very stressful situation less painful. I own a 2005 mini cooper that I've only been driving for 5 months. I was driving from lunch when it started making all sorts of crazy noise and the power steering started to go out and the car started to overheat. I pulled over quickly and yelped the closet and best reviewed places and I am so glad I found this place! When I pulled up someone was there right away to look at my car. They asked that I leave it overnight and they would call me the next day to let me know what was going on. I was planning on walking back to work which was about a mile and a half away and they offered to drive me there after recognizing the logo on my name tag. I was so so grateful! I was able to miss less of work due to their kindness. True to their word Lan called me the next day and told me the damage. I ruined the turbo and a few other things. I called my extended warrenty service and found out what I needed to do. This was the biggest headache because they wanted to hear from the autoshop and then have someone come out and inspect my car. Lan dealt with the crazy insurance company with grace and took care of everything on that end for me. She kept me updated throughout the whole process via e-mail since I am not allowed to have my phone at me while at work. She even suggested for me to use Hurtz rental cars because they work with them often and she would be able to return the rental car for me. When it was time to pick up my car it was a very painless and fast process! I was pleasantly surprised that they had completely washed my car inside and out and even fixed something that was cosmetically wrong with one of the front plastic vents. This place is quick! Upon arrival, I exchanged a few words and next thing I knew, my car was being taken in for an oil change. I have always had to wait for my oil change 15-30 minutes on end and it just took me by surprise that I didn't have to wait! The gentleman that I spoke to was quite nice and pleasant. Just called this shop asking about a brake and light inspection for a custom kit car that I've built and am trying to register through SB100. I was flatly told by whomever answered the phone that they couldn't [wouldn't] do it because the car hasn't got a VIN number for them to match against for spec for the brake rotor and pad thickness. Even when I told them that the car is based off a 1997 Mazda Miata, with 1997 Mazda Miata brakes and rotors they said nope. Of course the car hasn't got a VIN number! I need to have it inspected by the CHP. In order to have it inspected by the CHP the DMV requires that I have an official brake and light inspection completed. Not having a VIN is a complete crock excuse for not wanting to help a potential customer. read more

Ive been going here for my oil change since I like them so much. Their price is the cheapest that I know of for an oil change (w/no hook ups) and other services. Any buck I can save is a plus. Call them to get a estimate over the phone. It's an Asian-owned but they know how to speak English. LoL. I usually call them in advance to see how busy they are and I would make an appt, so that I don't wait when I arrive. So far so good. This place is a big warehouse/garage looking type place. They have a little room you can sit in while you wait. Give them a chance to impress you. You won't be disappointed cuz so far I haven't found anything bad yet. I guess, if you've experienced the expensive places/dealers and the mediocres...you're quick to judge. I've been coming here since it first opened up. Getting my oil changed, headlights fixed and whatever else needed to be done. The wait is always worth it because of the quality work they do and they're always reasonable. They speak very good English so having communication problem is not in the picture. I went there for an oil change it they did a horrible job! Two days later I noticed smoke coming out of my car and thought it was over heating so I pulled over to inspect the car. However, my radiator wasn't the issue. I didn't know where it was coming from, so I let my car to cool down and drove home. I had a friend inspect my car and he noticed that the oil was coming out from the oil valve cover. All of the bolts were loose which was causing my oil to spill out and heat my car. Can't trust them after that incident. Could've ruined my motor. Would not go back. read more

I choose one star this Auto Repair and if the web has 1/2 star or something is worst than 1/2 start I completely choose for the Auto Repair, and this is a reason. on Thursday, Feb 02 2017 I drove my Toyota corola 2005 to this auto in order to change oils as in below 1) Motor Oil (Pennziol High Milleage : 5 quart) 2) Brake fluid oil (Quantities: 3 bottles - Brake fluid: 3 Quart 3) Coolant (Quantities: 2 gallon - 2 bottle - Toyota Coolant) 4) Auto Transmition Fluid (Power Steering fluid). (Quantity: Toyota Dexon III Transmission fluid: 1 Quart) All of fluid maintenance oils as above are my mine, I bought them and brought them to The Fairground Auto Repair to change oil for my car. By the Way, I changed motor oil at here in 2016 (Motor oil was mine, and cost of the service was $25.00). This is a reason I did not ask about the cost before I changing oil at here in Feb 2017. The cost they charged for me the above works as below 1) Brake Fluid: $100.00 2) other rest of fluid: $125.00 I can not belive that, they was charged me $225.00 usd for these works. After I talked with them, they discrease $25.00 dollar for me. Final Cost was be charged: $200.00 (not including oil, because all oils were mine). They did not work very professional, at least they should inform the cost of these works before doing service for me, and It was my fault when I believed them and did not check the cost with them because I used their service in 2016. So, you should be careful to bring your car to repair or using their Services if not, you must pay very expensive for the services which you can find other Auto Repair with cheaper cost than their service. So highly be careful if you use FAIRGROUND'S SERVICE In San Jose. read more

Went here at the suggestions of some coworkers after getting rear-ended. The people here are very communicative, honest, and trustworthy. They took care of everything for me: rental car, transportation, insurance, etc. Minimized any hassle on my part. Very reasonable prices as well. They fixed and repainted my bumper (its looks like a brand new car!) and even washed the whole car inside AND out - it looks as if it got waxed. Anyways it was really nice of them to take care of everything and make my car look brand new.
