I can't recommend South Bay Autohaus. I have been bringing in my Mercedes c300 since 2018 for regular A and B services. In November of 2024, it was due for a spark plug replacement along with B service. This was the first time I was getting something other than an oil or brake fluid change. After the service I noticed a smell of fuel in the cabin similar to a fuel leak. I brought it back and was told the oil dipstick was broken and it was replaced. After that I still noticed the smell. I eventually took it to the dealer since this car is known for a fuel hose leak and has an extended warranty on replacing the fuel hose. After doing a full diagnostic of the fuel and exhaust systems for leaks the dealer found that the spark plugs were not tightened correctly. I spoke to Johann about this and while he was apologetic he said he did not know you could have loose spark plugs without an error code being generated. I feel let down in two ways: 1. When a customer brings back a car after a service with a new complaint, why would you not cross check all your work? 2. The fact that Johann mentioned he did not know spark plugs can be loose without an error code being generated tells me that Johann does not have the requisite amount of experience to work on Mercedes cars. I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more

I went in for an air-conditioning recharge and as the mechanic gave it a quick view, he noticed I was miss using the controls and cold air immediately came out he took the time to explain how all the AC controls worked and then told me there was no charge Gina at the front desk was incredibly nice and bent over backwards to help me out. I brought my 530i in for coolant issues which Johann fixed. Upon servicing, other items in coolant system failed which he also fixed. The owner took the time to answer my call and listen to my concerns for my vehicle. He did some research on his own time and was able to figure out that there was possibly an extension of the manufacture warranty on my vehicle. In fact there was and Mercedes was able to cover the repair for me. It takes a lot of integrity to help someone and not be able to get the business yourself, especially when it's a job that costs $2000 or more. We often worry about taking our our vehicles to a reputable and honest repair shop - usually they disappoint, but not South Bay Autohaus. I had an overflow coolant bleed line break while traveling from San Francisco to San Jose causing engine coolant to spew out and cause substance to spew from under the hood of my BMW M235i. I carefully drove couple miles to this shop, and asked them to take a look. Joe took one look and said he can get a part quickly, and will even replace the part, check the cooling system, and clean up the coolant debris - only charge is the $41 part! No labor charge. Ok - who has ever heard of this?! I expected a huge bill, and many hours of frustration and waiting. Let me cut to the chase - after a short period, got the car back, drove home, and there was no coolant smell and everything worked perfect. After I got home, checked the engine compartment and it looked brand new. The part fully replaced and if nothing had ever happened. I live in SF, but from now on I will be taking my car to South Bay Autohaus. These guys are awesome - top notch customer service. Better prices than dealer (oh, I checked), and integrity and honesty that I'm sure you will agree is in short supply these days. Well done!! read more

Once again, YELP does it again!! Guided me to find this new place that's beyond the almighty dollar, where customer's king, where the service is based on your needs and not what the schedule says, and always.. where knowledge is power:) I can't say enough about these guys, I've been shop hopping for a permanent mechanic for my Mercedes and this place just took that position. I went in with a ridiculous estimate, I had the brakes done and they CORRECTED what other shops has diagnosed to be the problem. They pointed out out, talked to me a little to reassure me that it's a common problem with that engine build and they had the parts needed for what needs to be done. Then I was educated on the parts on the underside of the car. Okay, so.. I've had my fair share of car work when I built my Camry(s).. but to many elderly individuals/ busy successful women who drive high end cars, sometimes this knowledge that they get will be their defense against crooked mechanics or stealerships. That's something you can't put a price on. Waiting area.. Umm, not really present but the shop is very clean and there's coffee available. I just unloaded my tablet, parked my ass in Jojann's desk and watched Korean dramas while they worked at it. 2 episodes later, I'm on my way home! So!- these guys are second to none and it will break my heart if you take your service else where when honest mechanics are here. On my way out, I saw a box of MOTUL fluids- this says a lot to a car guy like me.. if they're taking good care of the inside of the engine, that means they're in it to win it and will be here for the long haul. I was apprehensive about taking to a non dealership however I will now be taking my car here each time! I have been coming here for years. This place is one of the best auto mechanic shops that I have been to. The staff are friendly, but more importantly honest. I have never had the feeling that they were overcharging me or being deceptive in any way. That is rare in the autoshop world. Multiple times they have told me when I don't need to do something or if there is a cheaper option. Ad while they specialize in German cars, they certainly service other cars just as well. I had my B service performed here approximately 2 months ago. My vehicle is to drive to and from work which is fairly close by. Last week my cylinder began to misfire and I had to have my spark plugs and ignition coils replaced which to be fair is not this business's problem. What is this business's problem, is they did not actually change the oil in the vehicle it was in terrible condition and the dealership said it looked like it hadn't been changed in 8 months; also the engine air filter was absolutely filthy and appeared to not have been changed either. I do not recommend coming here. They may actually do some cars, but in my case I was charged for the service but it was not actually performed. read more

First, I want to say that South Bay Autohaus is an honest shop and they know German cars. My BMW was leaking radiator fluid and I feared it would be an expensive fix, but Jesse took a look and had an idea of where the leak was coming from. Left my car for repairs, picked it up later in the day and no more radiator fluid leaking on my garage floor. The part that was causing my leak was like a 30 cent rubber gasket. I also had a vibration issue with my driveline that was driving me crazy, but I wasn't 100% sure if it was the driveline or not. Jesse did a visual inspection and they let me know that my driveshaft could be unbalanced and that I'm missing a bolt on the driveshaft. I had to come back another day for this repair as their schedule was pretty packed. I brought my car back and they were able to inspect further. They found that the previous mechanic installed a driveline part improperly, replaced the missing bolt, and they reinstalled the driveline part properly. I picked up my car, took it for a drive. I cannot express just how thoroughly impressed I am with the customer service and quality of work. It is incredibly difficult these days to find any mechanic that is honest about their work and does whatever it takes to make things correct. I brought my 2010 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro in due to a misfire issue. I'd advised of the replaced plugs, coil packs and other items. This really left the fuel injectors as remaining culprit. After replacement the car was running better but not technically quite right. I can tell you going elsewhere and maybe even the dealership may pass it off as a let it go, its fine or normal... Here it was about being honest and leaving it up to me if I wanted the car back at the cost of inspection or if I wanted to proceed with further repair. I felt confident in the other reviews and how polite and professional everyone was, especially Joe who took care of me. Along the way there had been more issues with the car and more work needed but Joe was informative and helpful along the way. South Bay Autohaus, Joe and Johann made it all possible for me to get my car from barely running with constantly trying to clear CEL and hitting limp mode constantly to running smooth as silk and passing smog with no issue. Car drove strong all the way to the sierra's and has been strong in the snow. Thank you Joe, Johann at South Bay Autohaus! I cannot express enough just how awesome the experience has been. I can't thank Johan and chuck enough for their honest and excellent service. Have been going there for around 8years. Recently my car battery died stressing me out, they helped me get a tow truck, fixed my car and waived the charge as they saw in their records that I had replaced my battery 2 years ago so they factored the battery may be faulty so they could get it refunded. I had no clue and would have just paid for a new one but it's really heart warming to know these guys do the right thing every single time. Would highly recommend them. read more
