This service is extremely slow. The "better" cashiers act like they don't want to be there. And the vibe/apathy from the rest make me feel extremely uncomfortable to go inside. Like, if I clearly walk inside with my laptop-sized bag, why instantly be like "that's to go, right?" It feels as if they're trying to tell me to not stay or that I'm unwanted there. I am a fan of Fairgrounds and today's preview before they open did not disappoint. It was the usual awesome menu with a few new interesting items. What was most impressive was that I was an invited guest for the event but noticed while I was there that there were hundreds of people coming all of a sudden and there was a huge line, a lot of which was kids from the neighboring high school. I asked one of the employees of these were all invited guests and they said "no but we are glad they are here". Did I mention that everything was free!? They literally gave free food and beverage to all these folks that showed up to an invite only event and they couldn't have been more gracious. That was the experience I had at the first Fairgrounds I visited in Bucktown and why I am still a fan today. Class act, wishing them great success in Oak Park. read more

This place is such a gift! I went to fairgrounds alllllllll the time when I lived in the city and I am so thankful there is now one in oak park. So far I've had the loose leaf tea, coconut milk matcha latte, and different kombuchas. All delicious and just like the other locations-- but this one is by far less crowded and closer so they win. This is such a good new coffee shop! My boyfriend and I went in for an almond milk cappuccino and a black coffee to go. Although it's the opening week and the shop was slammed, the baristas were kind and efficient. They handled unhappy customers well and with grace. It was the best cappuccino I've ever had! The coffee is great as well. I can't wait to see Fairgrounds grow and adjust to the customer base of Oak Park. read more

My wife and I have given this place so many chances and they continue to fail. It's overpriced and the service is mediocre at best. I ordered a breakfast burrito and it came out cold. I went up and asked the young lady to heat it up and she quickly told me "we can't reheat just throw it out and we'll make you another one". No apologies and an attitude as if I had done something wrong. Shocker, the burrito they brought out was also cold. They are pre made burritos that they microwave. Another Oak Park business that will fail and deservedly so. High prices, bad service and sub par food. Bad combination! read more

We've been here at least once a week since it opened, sometimes twice a week. Warning: don't go on Wednesday mornings at 8:30/9, because if it's a late-start day at the high school, you get wall to wall teenagers in every available seat. Lesson learned. I love the Oatley lattes and mochas. I've had the breakfast sandwich, which was great (but small, and just a sandwich). The kids' meals are served in old-time metal lunchboxes, which is adorable. DO NOT get the Acai bowl, which is a watery smoothie dumped in a bowl with some fruit and coconut sprinkled over the top. Awkward to eat and *not* worth $11! Service has been good on the whole, with the staff encouraging us to try different things and sharing how they make them (and why). However, last night, my husband and I stopped in. There was NO ONE in line and one gentleman waiting at the end of the bar for coffee. When we walked directly up to the register (instead of around the whole restaurant) we were lectured by the cashier for going in the wrong direction, and we needed to use the official line entrance when there were people there. Except there weren't people there. Maybe it was a bad day for this guy, but he wouldn't let it go. Also note: Their in-house mugs are smaller than the sizes advertised. So, if you get a small latte, they make it in a paper cup then pour most of it into a mug (and toss the rest.) This is neither environmentally friendly nor accurate to what you advertise. The coffee is pretty good and I'm pleased to have cafes that serve high-quality coffee in Oak Park, but the food is below average. I've had the bacon and the ham breakfast sandwiches and they are not well made, come apart easily, and just don't taste very good. It doesn't come with a side either and you have to purchase chips separately. It would be really nice for the food to come with a small salad or fruit or something. I hope the food menu improves over time because I'd really like to enjoy a meal here while drinking their coffee. read more

The staff is super friendly and very motivated! Always there to help and give me a taste of what's new.. the food menu is great as well, offering vegan options as well for my wife. Can say I will gladly give them my service over Dunkin or Starbucks any day of the week if I'm near one. read more

Beautiful place and great location. Coffee, tea, food and decoration " every thing perfect" . I came once and for sure I'll be back.

The best part of this place is the atmosphere- it's a nice place to sit and have coffee. The coffee is good but definitely a little pricey for what it is, but the service I received was NOT good. A bald guy with a red beard took our order, and really wasn't very friendly about it. He seemed to think a request for milk instead of cream was a huge inconvenience. I waited at the counter when he was pouring the coffees, because I wanted to request that he just add a little bit of milk/not too much milk, and that really seemed to irritate him. I get that having very specific requests can be annoying, but when a customer is paying that much for coffee, they should get it how they like it. He blew me off and added too much milk, then immediately walked away to the back and didn't even give us our full order (forgot the pastry). I would expect a place like that to have great customer service, so it's disappointing to have a rude barista. If I ever go back there and he's working I would leave without ordering. read more

Food and drink are quite creative and good. Nice location and super cute cafe.However, customer service needs some help. They rushed us through our transaction, not giving me enough time to select how I wanted my receipt, so I didn't get one. Then when our food came up, it was in "to go" boxes, even though we hadn't asked for that. She never had even asked us if we wanted the food dine in or to go. When I demanded they put it on a proper plate, they grudging complied, but didn't apologize. It wasn't just me. All around us, at the tables, people were eating out of carry out boxes. Mind you, I had tipped the cashier 15% for just taking my order. I feel that I should have been treated better. This restaurant isn't cheap. I do not want my food thrown in a plastic box. I am paying to sit down in the nice cafe and eat from a properly presented plate of food. Are my expectations too high during Covid? Maybe they don't want the burden of washing plates and trays? I don't know the answers here, but I was so annoyed that I probably won't spend my money here again. read more

Terrible experience. My husband and I paid almost $30 for two iced coffees (that weren't any good) and two breakfast entrees. I ordered the huevos rancheros and received two cold and soggy tortillas with one egg. My husbands sandwich was nothing. This place doesn't even deserve one star. While I love the vibe inside, I have now been 3 times and been disappointed with their coffee each time-from a regular cup of joe to a latte. Yesterday was the final straw. I took my daughter who got a cake pop (apparently they can't tell you if the cake is chocolate or vanilla) and a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate basically tasted like hot water with a hint of chocolate. We didn't realize until we left and into the garbage it went. What a waste! I will not return again. Such a shame because we need better coffee shops but I'll stick with my usuals. read more

Coffee is good but one of the staff members taking orders was unbelievably rude to the point that all customers waiting outside the store were discussing his attitude. It took 15 minutes to get a standard coffee and then when I inquired if maybe my order had been missed the gentleman behind the counter sarcastically replied that they were busy. I went when they first opened and let me tell you it was a horrible experience. The lady at the register was constantly having side conversations with her coworker and making jokes when she should've been taking orders. She seemed very uninterested in customer service. Then for my drink I got a matcha latte. It was really watered down and didn't taste good and my dad got an iced latte and had the same experience. With that price tag you'd expect the best. Had high hopes for this place, completely disappointed. read more

I was so looking forward to this place opening up, but was disappointed by both the coffee and the staff. I ordered and paid for a large coffee, but the barista first made a small and then seem surprised and irritated that I wouldn't just take it instead. The coffee was weak and bitter, and I couldn't drink more than a few sips. I got the coffee to go to take to an event nearby, and came back afterwards to complain. The staff was rude and refused to give me a replacement or refund. I understand that things might not always run smoothly since they just opened up, but they seemed to go out of their way to be unpleasant and unhelpful. read more

Now, this is the coffee shop the screams, "We needed this ground floor retail lease to get the zoning variance and close the financing on this condo building." I went there today to see if they could do simple well. Which means a bagel and cream cheese, and cup of regular coffee. I should have read the fine print, as the bagel, advertised as being from New York, did not specifically say New York City. From the taste and texture (cake like) this bagel recipe was more likely from a community college snack bar outside of Buffalo. As for the coffee... at over 4 bucks for a small cup, one might expect the craftsmanship and richness you get at say La Colombe (or at least disaffected, tattooed, bearded baristas with masters degrees in a random liberal art )-- instead, you get a hauntingly similar cup of joe that was served at the old Tasty Dog shop that was carted to a land fill to make way for his condo complex. Perhaps the worst part of this shop opening...walking through the rest of the area, I could not help but notice near empty rooms at the other mediocre coffee shops that have opened over the last few years. I am guessing this place wins the OP mediocre coffee shop war as it fools young parents who moved to OP from the city for the schools into thinking they are still hip. read more

this place is amazing! much better than starbucks or any other coffee shop. we came in search of açaí bowls, and ended up with so much more! the vibe is amazing and chill, like a place you could be in all day and not get bored. the açaí bowls were delicious and fresh. their breakfast sandwiches are also very good, and are their chai lattes. the cups, bowls, etc. are so fun, and the whole place is very aesthetic. it is very healthy and delicious. breakfast is served all day. you could work here, read, chill out with friends-all while eating and drinking great stuff. overall, 11/10! read more
