It's been a while since I last dined at Fajita Flats so I was overdue for a visit earlier this week. From their lunch menu I ordered the steak fajitas which is a Monday daily lunch special for $17. Immediately after my order their complimentary cup of vegetable soup arrived. A unique feature of this restaurant, it was very good tasting and a nice extra. Then the complimentary chips and salsa appeared and I enjoyed them too. As always both freebies are always appreciated. Soon after my fajitas arrived on a sizzling platter. I had asked for charro beans and corn tortillas. The steak was tasty and flavorful and this was a very good meal as it always is. The table service here is always prompt and attentive. Finally Fajita Flats always has good music playing in the background. I enjoy coming here. read more

This place was pretty good. It was neat to get a complimentary soup, totally didn't expect that. The chips and salsa were good. The burger and onion rings were interesting. The onion rings felt (and look) like a frozen product, similarly the burger looks like it came in a pre-shaped circle. Despite that, the taste were average, but I liked the white cheese on the burger rather than just getting a kraft slice. The service was very attentive. I should probably go back and try the Tex-Mex... I just happen to be craving a burger that day. read more

This place brings back memories! Been here so many times over the years. When I lived in Houston my most prolific hobby was curating the best Tex Mex restaurants Houston had to offer. I became a bit of a snob, dining mostly at the higher-end locations. However, as my obsession grew to understanding the cuisine's roots, I became an avid fan of exploring the "dives" as well. Fajita Flats is one of those uniquely Houston Tex Mex institutions. Some people love it. Some people hate it. It's a locals' spot, for sure. I, for one, have never been disappointed - pretty decent classic Houston Tex Mex fare. Generally speaking, you'll get what you pay for. Service and atmosphere have always been nice too! This place is down the road from me. As soon as I arrived, a waitress offered me complimentary soup. I asked if it's vegetarian and it's not. Its base is chicken broth. The chips are not greasy and the salsa is very mild. I ordered small size of spinach quesadillas with no pico. They have the option of corn tortillas. While the quesadillas are good, $12.99 during lunch for four small triangles is too much. And now there's a 3.5 percent charge for paying by credit card. read more

First off, this place looks like it needs a refresh(I mean it gives off '80s hole in the wall vibes) like the Tejana and Latin Hip Hop videos on YouTube on repeat Still in all the place is inviting and low key. The haul: Vegetable soup(complimentary), Chili con Queso w/taco meat added, Two Burritos(Friday special) and half a pound of shrimp. Free is free and the veggie soup was a free surprise. Simple and delicious. To me this the best place that Michelada mix doesn't burn my throat!!!! Shrim was well done, chilled, deveined, and that cocktail sauce was awesome. Great burrito plate as well. I loved this place! Came here for Friday happy hour margaritas and left with a tummy full of margaritas and awesome Tex Mex. Their margaritas are bomb. I'm just now learning to embrace the tequila taste after a scarring first tequila encounter many many years ago. You can barely taste the tequila if you order their fruity versions (highly recommend the mango), which also aren't too sweet. The frozen versions are equally excellent and strong. I also want to rave about the black beans that came with the Parrillada Platter that we ordered. Their black beans are THE BEST that I've EVER had in any Tex Mex restaurant. Soft but not mushy and the broth is intensely flavorful. I love free, and besides the expected chips and salsa, they also give a free soup which was a delightful surprise. The Parrillada Platter is actually the perfect amount of food for 2 people so no need to order more unless you're really hungry. Heads up, if you're as excited about tres leches as I am, note that they don't always have it. read more

Love this place and have been a 30 year fan. I moved to the suburbs and still drive the 30-40 minutes to have their all-day breakfast. And if in town, I make the detour to ensure a shot at the margaritas and the lovely service. You don't just have one server, every server is watching to ensure your glass is fully and you are happy. They have added a new large bar and updated the outside patio. These are positive changes even for us old-timers. read more

The customer service was wonderful. Many people walked by to ensure I had everything I needed. I really appreciated that. They also offer a complimentary vegetable soup, which I thought was original for a Mexican restaurant. On another note, Why did I only get 6 nachos? Lol where are the rest? I wish I were exaggerating w this but the proof is literally in the pic. Nothing under the veggies, just 3 dry, bland chicken nachos and 3 acceptable steak nachos. Been coming here since around 1989 shortly after they opened. Always great food and impeccable service. It's kind of a tag team, every waiter will ask if you need anything. I like their combo chicken & beef fajitas. Tasty frozen margaritas. Be sure to have a cup of the complimentary soup, really good. A good place to celebrate a birthday but be warned, the birthday celebrant will have to ride a stick pony around the restaurant wearing a large sombrero while the wait staff cheer you on. When we first moved back to Houston, this was the first place we ate. Today, I realized that I should be going more often. It was a really festive crowd with a few different work parties. In spite of being the busy, the service was excellent. Their timing is perfect. I'm sure that a couple owns and runs the place... and it's obvious that they do it with personal pride. They have several Mexican draft beers which I needed since it was 100F (my car thought that it was 107F) outside. The complimentary soup is quite delicious, as is the homemade salsa. I had the boiled shrimp, which were huge, and guacamole salad. I smelled and heard the other big platters sizzling away as they went by me. I will be back soon to try some of them. read more

Their fajitas were fresh and definitely tasty! It came out on a hot grilled plate still sizzling and it was seasoned nice. Their house specials are good to check as well once you enter. My coworker suggested this place because there is music, great food, and alcohol. Fun fact, I don't drink, so the latter doesn't really matter to me, but it matters to my other coworkers. To get to the restaurant, you need to really pay attention. If not, you'll have U-turn. It's not hidden, but it's placed awkwardly next to a Sunny's Corner store. Parking awkward for that same reason. The area has a sketchy feeling to it. That doesn't bother me, that just adds a certain flavor and tells me that the food should be really authentic . The ambiance inside isn't something to brag about. It looks outdated but that shouldn't deter you. Once again, that let's me know the food should be good I'm not a food connoisseur so take this review with a grain of salt. The chips and salsa were OUTSTANDING! I had 2 baskets by myself. I ordered a sampler and everything on it was great. My coworkers enjoyed their meals also. They really liked the drinks. They said their Margaritas were delicious and that they didn't taste the alcohol which apparently sounds like a good thing since I don't drink, but apparently that can be the prequel to a really GREAT NIGHT or TERRIBLE NIGHT. The music is good, they do allow you to choose from their jukebox. During our visit a group of what I assume are teenagers came in. Me and my wife love this place. We've been coming here for years. We don't live down the street anymore, but we do make the 20-30 min drive out as it's in our rotation (we come almost once a month or so). While maybe not the absolute best Tex-Mex in town, the food is very good, the fajitas are great, and their "beer-a-rita" is a must. I do wish their menu had a bit more options (I like the stuffed avocado other places have, amongst other things), but the basics are tried and true. But what keeps us coming back is the service and ambiance. Sort of hole-in-the-wall, the servers recognize us and are super friendly and attentive - not just us, but everyone. We've tried to come as often as possible during Covid to support, and eating here feels like you're eating at home; cozy and chill, with hot food and great drinks. They've done a great job separating tables, and inside feels very clean. Give it a shot! read more

Fajita Flats was great back in the '90s. Not so much today. I had dinner there last weekend. The food was bland. Margaritas were terrible. Annoying music blasting really loud. There was absolutely nothing good about the place. In these cases, I usually don't bother writing a review, but there is something that should be noted for public awareness. Since Marvin Zindler (God rest his soul) is no longer with us, it may as well be me to report this health violation. I just happened to look over at the bar after we had finished our meal. I was shocked to see the bartender picking his nose. He was really going to town on it too, deep drilling. It was as if he was in a trance and had forgotten where he was. After he successfully excavated the green nugget from his hairy nostril, he rubbed it between his thumb and forefinger, closely examining it for a minute. I was shocked. An equally brain dead waiter walked up to him and handed him a bundle of unwrapped margarita straws. The bartender grabbed the straws, cross contaminating every margarita served with his booger covered fingers. I almost threw up on the table. SO, I came here after hearing allll about it from various coworkers. We came here to "celebrate" our coworkers last day, since multiple coworkers were leaving. I didn't want to go out to eat, so I didn't buy anything, but I'm rating based off of what I got an observed. Like I said, I didn't order anything, but I feasted on the delicious chips and salsa and free veggie soup. Everybody liked the soup but one coworker said it smelled like pee??? Only he thought that, nobody else, but the free things were good, and service was very attentive for a Wednesday lunch afternoon, for a big party. The service was very attentive and friendly. I ordered a "Charro Negro" and they did not know how to make it. After I gave them the steps and the ingredients, I received a "Charro Blanco"... lol... they put too much lime juice and not enough Diet Coke. I had to ask for another Diet Coke to dilute it. Think of Fajita Flats as a honky tonk serving TexMex. We expected a bit of a wait as we came on a Friday evening. But we didn't expect to be ignored at the door. No greeter. No wait list. Our start was disappointing. But, we came to eat (and drink). The margaritas were fine, but the draft beer was flat. We ordered their "special" fajitas. Mixed beef & chicken and shrimp. Portions at Fajita Flats are substantial, so they provide great value. That said, the fajitas come with your choice of beans (refried, black, boracho or charro). They are served with grilled onion, (but no grilled peppers), guacamole (pretty much all avocado), pico and rice. The beef lacked flavor and the chicken was dry. The flour tortillas didn't strike me as fresh. We might have enjoyed our meal more if we could hear ourselves think. The jukebox was blaring all evening-hardly conducive to conversation over dinner. The only thing louder than the jukebox was the insufferable happy birthday song which is recorded. It's one thing to have some birthday song fun - it's another to blow out eardrums. Bottom line?
