Young white-wing dove on ground in my garden 7-8-25, thought it was dead but picked up to keep my dogs from getting it and it's eye blinked! Blazing hot ..109 degrees, so took in to house, put in cage and misted to cool it down. Was unsure how to help further, but let dove rest in quiet area overnight. Next morning called Fallen Feathers.. told to bring bird. Drove over, volunteer said dove ok, just flight feathers not yet developed. Such gentle exam of this dove. No one was around, so we had to leave the i jured bird we found in an empty cage. I left food and water for the bird along with a note containing my phone number and $40 cash. I requested a call just to confirm they found the bird. There was no way to signal that a new bird was there. I never heard from them and on subsequent trips there was never anyone there at all. I had to drop off a northern mockingbird fledging bird since around the area there were many cats and it couldn't fly. I honestly regret so much not educating myself before dropping it off at this "sanctuary" and taking it to a better sanctuary. Walking up to the drop off area my gut was telling me to not leave it there, the place looked very unorganized and not up to date, abandoned in a way. The fact that I can't receive updates on the bird I dropped off is so unsettling. I only had the bird for a few hours but within those hours I truly grew very fond of it. The birdie was so sweet loved to be on my hand was super curious of everything but I knew I couldn't keep it. My heart hurts every time I think about it , I also really hope they take good care of my birdie as well as all the other birds. read more

Found a pigeon in my parking lot with a broken wing. Called the Humane Society and they referred me to a wildlife rescue agency where I was able to get in contact with Fallen Feathers. I called, but nobody answered, so I just drove up there. It was a 30 min drive and I thought I was lost at first, since it's in a residential neighborhood. Thank goodness I found them! Noticed a dove on a driveway in Sun City flapping his wings, but not able to fly. I got out, put a shirt over him, and put him in a box. I did a Google search for "bird rescue" and found this place. Called, quickly explained situation, and she said to get the bird there as soon as possible. Drove 25 min up to Peoria and brought in the bird. They grabbed him out right away and started checking him out. He could fly, but maybe was spooked. He might have hit a window. He will be okay! So, my kitty brought home a live quail, baby, and after research and talking with somebody who knew about fallen feathers, I decided to drive over there to drop it off. I didn't get to meet anybody except briefly when I was already heading to my car, But the vibe at the home which included all the many different bird sounds coming from it, and being greeted by pigeons at the front door, I knew it was going to be in good hands. The fellow I talk to that came out and confirmed, the baby was going to be in good hands and they would take good care of it. Absolutely terrible. If you have a bird of prey in distress, take elsewhere. An owl was injured crashing into a plate glass window. Over the course of a few hours, the owl improved and aside from not standing, was much improved by the time was left at Fallen Feathers. For two days, despite their sites claiming "responds to messages within an hour" and multiple requests for an update, there was no word on the condition of the owl (despite the fact the "icon" indicated receipt of message). When they finally did respond, it was to inform the owl had died shortly after drop off (not sure that seems believable but nothing to do about it) and went on at length about owls not really mating for life-- which wasn't a question. Not kidding-- try Wild at Heart first, then anyone else before Fallen Feathers if a bird of prey. So disappointing. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this amazing place. Fallen Feathers is a non-profit organization dedicated to three things: rescuing, rehabilitating, and educating. They help any breed of bird/ anything that has a feather, whether you find a bird or have lost a pet bird this place can help you out. Fallen Feathers provides medical care to all birds who need it and provides a safe and permanent home to birds who would not be able to survive by themselves again in the wild. I found out about this wonderful organization last summer when I found a bird ( I named him "Herbie") in my pool and took him out. I tried to dry him off and then let him rest for a while because I thought he would be fine and be able to fly away. As I was looking at him I found out that something had happened to his wing and he could not fly. I waited or a little while to see if his wind would be fixed when it dried off, but it was still damaged. I called the humane society and they recommended Fallen Feathers. I took "Herbie" to Fallen Feathers and they took great care of him from there. They new exactly what type of bird he was and fed him so worms. I had tried to give him some bird seed, but that was the wrong food. Good thing I took him in because not only are you not suppose to give a bird water when they are injured, but the bird seed was the wrong food and he would have starved. Also, the owner, Jody told me that this was a bird that needed to be up high in order to fly. He couldn't just fly from off the ground. Then, after Herbie was better he was released back into the wild. This is a great place and if I ever find an injured bird again I will definitely take it here again! read more

I found an injured dove on the side of the road while taking my dog for her morning walk. I couldn't imagine leaving it there helpless to waste away under the hot sun. I placed it in a box with a towel and dirt.The dove seemed OK, it just couldn't fly. Not knowing what to do, I contacted every veterinarian in the north Scottsdale area. It was frustrating not to find one that could help out. Finally I was given a referral to Fallen Feathers (relief!). It was worth the 40 minute drive from Carefree to Peoria to find the avian refuge. They took the dove under their care right away. The knowledgeable volunteer said it was a young dove, but overall seemed healthy. She said they would try to nurse it back to health and then release it back into nature. I am impressed with the selfless, compassionate and caring attitude of this non-profit organization. read more

This place is amazing. It's a persons house and they have volunteers to help care for hurt or abandoned birds. They care for all kinds of bird (hawks, owls, duck, pigeons) any bird at any age they will take!! They care for them and set them free! They even have some you can adopt!! Me and my husband found 2 baby mockingbirds that fell out of the nest in our front yard, the parents had abandoned them. We had to leave our nice home in Phoenix and transition to an apartment in LA, California. I had two Yellow Naped Amazons which were handed down to me by a family member who could no longer care for them. I had the female for twenty-six years. Her mate was a rescue and he was with us for over fifteen years. The pair of birds are incredibly attached. I knew that we would not be able to take the birds with us. It was gut wrenching. The male parrot had special needs and also liver issues. My vet suggested calling Jody and her rescue organization. We went over to see her place and birds. One thing I can say is that Jody and her family have dedicated their lives to birds. We visited during the summer and she had everything from baby hummingbirds to doves to owls which had to be fed every few hours. They also had many types of parrots that are up for adoption. I can honestly say that leaving my birds behind was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made but knowing they are with a loving family that cares for them helps ease the sad feelings. If anyone is thinking about getting a parrot, please stop here first. There are so many wonderful adoptable parrots that need good homes. The best part is Jody will train you how to care for a parrot over a period of time and help you decide if a parrot is the best addition to your family. read more

I live in Goodyear not to far away from her. I called because I have a baby pigeon that needs rescue. I called and told her my car was broken down but should be fixed by Thursday or Friday however the bird would most likely be dead by then. She acted like she didn't have time to even hear me out ( I couldn't even get in that I lived so close to her) and just said she does all this herself and she cant pick up and bla bla bla that she had no time for me. No offense but if you claim to love birds that much then don't rush people off the phone like I'm the scum of the world and at least sound like you care. This baby bird is going to die now because of her. I get that you do this and you deserve all this credit that you so obviously shower yourself with anytime someone calls and needs your help but really get a heart. Fallen feathers gets donations and also has volunteers but she cant use her donated money to pick up the bird or ask a volunteer? We found a fallen dove and I decided to nurse it back to health while we decided what to do with it. My friend later had the idea to look up a bird shelter (which embarrassingly I admit I never really considered the fact that they might exist.) and Fallen Feathers was the closest so we decided to take a trip with our little friend. I was expecting an official establishment with a receptionist and desks so I was kind of shocked to see a little 10 year old girl open the door and grab the bird telling us what it was, and inviting us in. This place is really loud and has a funky smell, but it seems to be a very caring and personable shelter, if maybe a bit over-crowded :( Take your fallen birds here! read more

My husband and I are speechless! Jody is an AMAZING person to take all those birds into her home. We brought her a bird with a broken leg and two other families were also dropping off birds. We waited in her house in AWE and SPEECHLESS. As soon as she could get to us, she held the bird and examined it to find where the break was; this was at 7:45 on a Fri night. For someone to open their own home up to strangers like this is AMAZING! She still had multiple birds to attend to with broken legs that night. To the people that are giving bad reviews because they don't get call backs.... all I have to say to them is SERIOUSLY!!! It's clear Fallen Feathers is doing everything they can to help all of these birds so of course they aren't sitting by the phone waiting for calls or have time to call people back. When we called at 7pm we got an answering machine saying they are sorry they can't answer the phone but then immediately after, got a text stating if we have a bird we can bring it to them and gave us their address. They even allow you to leave birds at their front door in a cage. Read the signs they have at their front door or the side door by their garage. What more could you want????? They are doing their best with the volume of people flocking to them asking for help!!! I wish someone would help fund a HUGE amount of money so they could buy a large piece of commercial property and hire more staff. You have to see this place to believe it. Words cannot even explain!! Our dog brought a young grackle (sp?) into our house, crippled, flapping in a circle and not looking like it would make it. These birds are loud, noisey, and considered a nuisance by most. I called our vet, who gave me the number of Fallen Feathers. A young lady answered and said to bring the bird to them as soon as possible, with no questions. There were birds of every type in the garage, the kitchen, living room and outside. How anyone sleeps there is a puzzle, but this family has obviously dedicated their lives to birds.....of any type. I have been rescuing wild birds and animals since I was 7 years old, so when I moved to AZ about 20 years ago, I became a member of "For the Birds", a now defunct wild bird rescue. I tell you this because, until you have done this type of work, you cannot imagine how time consuming and exhausting the work can be! I discovered "Fallen Feathers" about 10 years ago and can't say enough good things about it and it's founder Jody. Jody has given almost her entire home over to the care and rehabilitation of any and all birds and is incredibly knowledgeable, competent and trustworthy. So kind and caring, she has probably rescued at least hundreds of thousands of birds by now!!! They are evaluated, treated, eventually healed and, if at all possible, returned to be free!!! In the meantime, while all of that is occurring, they have to be fed, have their cages cleaned - you know - the grunge work! Somehow, with some volunteers, Jody manages to run this operation and still maintain a clean, healthy and organized home. I am in awe of her and you should be too. There aren't many people in this world who have such incredible dedication, persistence and love for the creatures of this world, and aren't we all (birds and humans) blessed by her because of that... If you can support this charity, please do. Just feeding the birds costs thousands & thousands of dollars and feeding them is just one of many, many more expenses. There are medical supplies, veterinarian bills, etc., etc., etc.. You'll feel better if you give, I know I do! read more

I found out about fallen feathers from the bird store I went to to get my birdies food and toys. I was diagnosed with postpartum depression and was having a very hard time giving attention to my son and birds, so I felt it was in my birds best interest to go to a bird rescue where they could be cared for, loved, and given the attention they needed daily. When I saw the rescue I knew it was a good place for my birds and many people there to care for the birds. They were very caring and kind and ands on with the birds there. My gcc I had since she was a baby and it was really hard to see her go, but I knew it was for the best, I called a few months later and found out she had already been adopted and was very taken to her new owner. I am very glad! I recommend fallen feather to anyone that needs to part with their birdies for one reason or another, or even if you go on vacation and need someone to watch your birdie. Wow, what a truly incredible place. We found a mockingbird drowning in our pool. It was past 6p, and Fallen Feathers was the only place still open. We drove all the way from North Scottsdale, not knowing what to expect. The head woman was so competent and attentive and immediately got to caring for the little guy we'd brought in. Fallen Feathers is based out of a house and it is truly a home to so many animals just down on their luck and needing some care. It warmed my heart to know a place like this exists.
