I thought I had a good experience but calls and emails were never returned regarding my charges. The simple problem as described by the repairman ended up costing my almost a thousand dollars. In talking with another HVAC/AC company, I believed I was over charged for a part that should have been covered under the other part I was charged for. We are extremely happy with Jim Beard, the owner, and his team. We had two state of the art units, a 3 ton and a 4 ton, installed by only three guys, Greg, Ryan and Gerardo (all very friendly, helpful and funny) in less than 6 hours and the units are running perfectly with no problems. The units are a tight fit in their closets with just about a couple of inches of space to spare. However, these guys are attic rats, they get into places that I would never even contemplate to get it, and they do it gracefully and a with a smile. Jim knows how to pick his employees and treats them like old friends. We had a small hiccup with the rebate from TEP and Jim and Rick were there every day to make sure it happened, regardless of their additional work and time, for that we are very grateful. Jim was involved in every aspect of the job, including the all important first hour of the installation. He was very accessible and will promptly return calls, you can count on that. And his cost for the work was very competitive and fair, it beat other's estimates. I have already referred Family Air to my friends and will keep an eye for if and when they need new units installed. We also have a maintenance contract with them that the office will follow up and make the appointments as required. Now we can look forward to a cool summer, at least indoors... read more

We retired to rural Tucson this past year, and our AC ran just fine all through the summer. 'Went to test it out before the heat comes around this year and it wouldn't start up. The outdoor condenser fan would not come on. Now, I'm a fairly capable do-it-yourself-er. I initially suspected this could be a motor capacitor issue - since there was a hum from the unit but the fan would not start despite the fact it would spin freely with a little push (telling me the fan motor itself was an unlikely culprit). 'Was about to buy a new capacitor and swap it out, but since the AC hadn't been checked-out by a "qualified" technician since we've lived here I went in search of a good local HVAC company. Family Air was my choice after seeing how many good online reviews they had. Even more important to me is when a company actually RESPONDS to bad reviews, and these guys are awesome in this regard! I called them. My call was answered right away by a live person, Rebekah, who was smart, thorough and courteous. She said a technician could be dispatched the next morning within a two hour window. Great! Ralph arrived early in the time window after he'd called me in advance to announce his ETA. He pulled up in a nice clean work van, and was very cordial and friendly. Ralph went right to work diagnosing our system. Sure enough, my initial suspicion re the failing capacitor was spot on. But Ralph saw some other things that I was not knowledgeable about, and he readily answered my questions and provided intelligent explanations. An inquisitive customer like me can be off-putting to repair people who are incompetent or in any way dishonest. Ralph was outstanding; a five star technician in every way. Since then, we have had several issues including the main coil going bad. Like clockwork, every time we called Family Air--we got no call back. With 8 rental houses to manage (6 ours; 2 other's), we need good, reliable firms to call upon. Other than reliability, we're looking for companies and people with honesty, integrity, and (of course) fair pricing. Well, we were fortunate to find an A/C company recently that fit our criteria, but these folks ain't it! A tenant contacted me, since the A/C wouldn't go below 80 degrees. I'd used Family Air on another rental with success, so called and let them know my situation. Also explained that I was looking for a reliable A/C firm to call upon when needed for rentals and our primary home. The rep seemed friendly and helpful, and we scheduled. The tech went to the home, and I spoke with him when he needed cost approval. He assured me the $200+ would take care of the problem, so the work was approved. He also mentioned how the filter was filthy, with dust and hair, so he had to replace it. I got the invoice; $17 for a filter. I spoke with the tenant who is responsible for the filters. He'd been cleaning it every two weeks, and had just changed it 3 days prior. He sent a photo of the one the tech removed, and it looked pristine. The rep said the tech should have taken a photo, but since he didn't, she'd remove the charge. I believed my tenant. He's responsible, works for an A/C company, so knows the importance of a clean filter. She removed the charge, and the total was now $216.56. The tenant let me know the temp still wouldn't go below 80 degrees. Called Family Air back and the tech was scheduled to return. At this visit, the tech said it needed a thermal expansion valve, so he needs authorization for this $700+ job. Although he initially said the first work would definitely fix the problem, I approved it after speaking with the rep. They ordered it; it would arrive "on the truck" Monday. Monday came; no TXV. No on the truck, but should be on Wednesday's truck. Meanwhile, the tenants are roasting. I was told there were portable A/C units available for loan and I'd get a call. Never happened. Now the tech is supposed to be there on Wednesday to do the fix. Since we'd waited so long, plus no part on the truck when we were told it would be, we thought we'd have priority. Nope. Got the 12-2pm slot. Now he gets on the roof and finds freezing, but it is almost 4pm (he was late). While it takes about an hour for a thaw, he cannot wait, nor return in an hour. Would he be back Thursday morning then? Nope! Friday?!? Nope! He'll be back Monday; there are others scheduled for Thursday and Friday! But we'll be his "first call" of the day. So, calling the office, I'm scrambling for the portable A/C loan they told me about, since this is another FIVE-DAY wait. They'll phone when they get one. Yep - no call on that. But - he IS scheduled for FIRST thing Monday morning, right? We're assigned the 10-2:00 slot (this is "first in line"?!?) I phone to confirm; they changed it to the 11-3pm timeframe! (Must be customers waaay more important than us!) The tenant texted at that time that when the tech was there prior, he said it was "cooling down", while it blew hot air, and that he'd left his truck parked in the middle of the street, where neighbors had to maneuver around it. Just one more thing ... The tech was to phone us when he was on the way over, so we could meet him at the property. He didn't. Once the time frame was well underway with no phone call, my husband just went over there. He found the tech walking through the house to go to the back and plug in his tool. The female tenant was working in the back yard, and had no idea he had come there, much less had come into the house; no warning! He (finally) comes and does the job, and I get the invoice, expecting $700+ (in addition to the $200+ I already paid when I was told that would definitely fix the issue). The invoice is for $1,758. Why? Well, they hadn't bothered to mention that they charge $70/pound for coolant, and they would use 15 pounds. The coolant alone was $1,050. Looking on Amazon, I see it goes for $113 for a 25# canister (so $4.52/pound). My 15 pounds cost them $67.80 or less, and they charged me $1,050. Okay, maybe they'd have to use the entire 25 pound canister to get the 15 pounds out, plus (of course) there's the expertise, etc. So, at $113 for 25 pounds, go ahead and triple, quadruple - oh heck - make it 5 times the cost. That would be $565. To be fair, I learned that others charge a lot too, one was $50 per pound. But still - Family Air charged $70. Might want to ask around for coolant charges before hiring these folks, if nothing else. They won't get any more business from us. Oh! And while we were discussing what work needed to be done and why - I could get straight through to the rep every time. Once the work was done and I wanted to talk about the charges, she absolutely would not take the phone calls. I stayed on hold 10-20 minutes some of those times I phoned. Jim is a great guy and has a real good sense of humor. He has been working hard to figure out why the unit I purchased is not behaving efficiently. We are suspecting it was the thermostat. They replaced that and I'm awaiting the bill to see if there is any change and Jim is working with the manufacturer, American Standard studying data from the unit to see what is going on? I changed my rating of Family Air to a 5 star rating because I think they deserve it. They scheduled an installation quote appointment for this morning (9/18/17) between 8 and 10 last Thursday. At 10 am, the person calls my husband to let him know he's still an hour away from coming. After being in a house without AC for going on 14 days, this says to me "I don't care enough about you to be on time to my appointments." I feel like if I accepted their bid, they aren't going to care enough to be on time to do the installation either. Also, I left a message (last Monday about 4:50 PM) to have them call me but I never heard from them. I don't know what those people who had someone call them after their posted hours mean that someone called back. I live in 3 points too and it's hard to get anyone to come out our way to help us. All my experiences with this company are one star and don't bother. read more

So it's 107*F in Green Valley AZ and the AC quits...oh happy day. I call these folks late in the afternoon and they say we will be there tomorrow morning with help. Sure enough, by 11AM a guy was on my roof. He worked up there for a full hour and bingo...in 20 minutes later the inhouse temp dropped four degrees. He had found a bad electrical connection caused by a failed part and he had a new one in his van. A hundred and sixty buck later he was on his way and I had a cool house again. Fast-efficient and I really appreciated him explaining what he found in detail. Second time they have saved the day and the cost was less than I expected. Don't use anyone else!!! read more

Another company came to the house and told me I would need a new A/C unit and that my current A/C was completely broken. I called Family Air and Greg F came to the house and completely checked everything. I found out several things during our search for a new AC/Heating system: 1. Everyone, and I mean, everyone (friends, family, co-workers, mail carriers, bank tellers) recommends their AC guy. 2. You must be a direct descendant of royalty to get one of these AC guys to work on a Labor Day weekend... even if it's Tucson and your AC is out. 3. When your AC is out, any chocolate item in your house should be refrigerated. We decided on Family Air for replacement of our unit. Jim and Bill were great throughout the process. The story is one I'm sure you are all familiar with. You move into a new house and immediately something goes wrong. For us it was the fan on one of our AC units on a SUNDAY! We called around and Family Air was available. The rate was very reasonable, time and a half for a weekend ($127/hr) and they even offered a Raytheon discount. We were told that the technician would be out in about three hours. Sure enough at 2.5 hours we received a call from our technician, Todd, letting us know he was 20 minutes away. This may seem like a little thing, but knowing that your AC is only 20 minutes away from getting fixed is such a relaxing feeling. Todd was polite, knowledgeable, and there maybe 30 minutes before we had nice cool air. I would highly recommend Family Air to anyone asking! read more

In the heat wave of spring we came home to an inside heatwave, calling one of the services that heavily advertise, we arranged for them to come out the next afternoon, upon inspection of our HVAC he immediately diagnosed the problem a stuck valve, he then called his boss to see if the part was available, but then suddenly reversed his initial replace the valve with we would need to replace the whole HVAC system (he had just told us the system was in great shape except the valve) when we asked if the valve could just be replaced he said yes for $2500, but they wouldn't guarantee their work, so we paid for his service call, and said we would think about replacement, he then pulled out numerous brochures quoted us a $12,000 replacement cost, and for $3000 more a solar unit that would cut our monthly bills down quite a bit, we thanked him and said we would be in touch. The next day my husband was reliving the story when a coworker said "hey call Family Air, they have worked on our family's system and they are great, very reliable and fare prices. I called Family Air, they sent Ken H. out, he immediately diagnosed the stuck valve, said our unit was in good shape, he got the valve unstuck, recharged it for us to get it through the heat wave, said this should hold it through summer, but recommended we replace the valve in the fall, the quote for parts and labor around $1000. Here we are in fall, made it through the heat, called Family Air, the quote was $1072.00, Ken came out replaced the valve, serviced our system, said we should be good to go. I will recommend them to anyone that will listen, they are friendly, professional, and fare on their pricing. The other guys were just upscale upscale upscale, no thanks, they advertise that they are veteran owned and friendly to veterans, but I found them not so honest. Our AC stopped on Thursday night. We called the people who installed it 4 yrs ago since parts are still under warranty (Chas Roberts) on Friday. They didn't come out until Saturday and said it was the blower motor and would cost $304 to replace. I confirmed I just had to pay labor and they said yes. That seemed awfully expensive to me. They said someone would call me to setup the install if they didn't have my size motor. 3 days later and still no call. So I turned to Yelp and saw that Family Air had some good reviews. I called them and asked about the install cost. They said it should take less than 2 hours and less than $200. Jim was very professional and straightforward. I set up the install with them as I had to wait for the part. 8-10 was the time. Jim called me just after 8 to let me know his guy was sick and that he would be doing the install himself. He arrived a few minutes later and was done not long after. He was very courteous and helpful. He didn't try to sell me anything else or price gouge me. I ended up paying less than 1/3 the price Chas Roberts quoted and received 10 times the customer service! I couldn't have asked for a better person or company to help us out! I will recommend Family Air to everyone I know and will 100% use them again in the future when needed! Called when I realized our AC was not working to full capacity. They came that day! Chris, the technician, was terrific. I trust him. Explanations clear, no scare tactics. Chris ended up running late, but came anyway, and worked at our place from 5:30 to 7. The only down side was that they had to do another visit to check out the second unit -- and charged for the service call. But overall, the price was very fair, and the repair excellent. They have done service work, installed a mini split, moved a different mini split and now waiting for a quote to run new duct work and unit on new construction. So, yes, we've used them more than once. What I love most, is every one of the guys they have sent out to our home has been polite, accommodating and CLEAN CUT, (not looking like they just escaped prison) which is a huge deal for us and that's getting harder and harder to come by these days. If the tech showed up on the day I was told this would've been a 5 star review. That didn't happen. I gave them 2 stars because once the tech showed up, he did the job much faster and cheaper than expected. I needed my mini-splits repaired and set an appointment. The tech showed up between the hours I was told and called when he was on his way. It turned out that it was going to take 6 hours so I had to schedule the work the next week. I had to take the day off because of the length of the work. He was to show up between 8 and 10:00 am on a Friday. I would get a call when he was on the way over. 10:00 came and went without a call. I called at 10:30, and after I was on hold, I was told he was having vehicle problems but should be there in about 45-50 minutes. I asked that someone call me if something happens and there would be a delay. 11:20 came and went without a call. I call and was told she thought the problem was solved and someone should be there by 12:30. 12:30 came and went and no call. I call and was told he wasn't coming and I could have the next available tech who was then in Sahuarita-an hour drive away. Or I could have the tech come out tomorrow at 8:00 am. I took the later. I can't believe I didn't get one single call and that they didn't know enough that I wasn't get a tech that day and I could've gone into work. On Saturday, he did show up and did a great job. Like I wrote, he was able to do the job in under 2 hours and one-third of the estimate. He was professional and courteous. If it was on Friday only I'd give them 5 stars. read more

My A/C went out Tuesday evening, too late to call. I called Wednesday at 9:00 am and was told they couldn't come until Thursday between noon and 4:pm. I was okay with that because of the yelp rating. The technician called at 11:00 and showed up at noon as planned. After looking the unit over, the technician told me that there was two leaks and that a two foot piece of line along with a service port and filter would need to be replaced. He took my information and said I would receive a quote by email. I waited for the quote until the following Wednesday. At that time I called and asked about the quote, the person who answered the phone said it wasn't ready yet. I decided I couldn't wait and called another company. That company sent a technician out that evening. That technician found and fixed the leak that evening. As the repairs were being finished, Family Air called to say my quote had been sent to my email. However, the quote never showed up. I feel like the Family Air tech didn't know what he was doing and must not have done the quote correctly. Because of the apparent lack of experience and no follow up, I can only give one star. read more

They manufactured the duct work the next day and came out to install it. We were quoted one price but they got the work done faster that they realized, so it was cheaper than the original quote!!!! I first contacted Family Air when our A/C went out at the end of May 2019. Their technician, Greg diagnosed the problem and said we needed a new compressor. We had FA install a 'new' compressor at a cost of almost $4000.00. One year later (6/15/2020) once again the A/C stopped working. Family Air diagnosed the problem as a bad condenser fan motor - $625.00. Now this year (7/2021) ONCE AGAIN the A/C stopped working. Family Air said we needed a new compressor for a cost of $3500. Seriously? Normally an A/C compressor will last at least 12 to 15 years. How is it possible that our supposedly new compressor failed in just two years? We waited for over two weeks in 100 degree weather for an answer from the owner and the office manager to finally tell us there was no warranty or guarantee on the 'new' compressor they installed just two years ago. I definitely cannot recommend Family Air since they have no ethics, and apparently care nothing for their customer's comfort nor loyalty. Other HVAC accompanies described Family Air's treatment as criminal and unethical. Please do yoursel, your house and your bank account a favor and AVOID THIS COMPANY! read more

Initially scheduled vent cleaning which was thorough and affordable. They checked our furnace as part of the service and were concerned about the CO level. Required to have it checked by our home insurance choice of contractors and they agreed but came in with a higher bid and I had to chase the information down from this second contractor. Pleased to get to go back to Family Air for the new furnace (which was only slightly more than fixing the 20 year old one) Polite, timely service with excellent communication!!! After reading many reviews on Yelp for various companies, big and small, I decided Family air would be my best bet. I have a 19 year old unit that in all honesty has not been well maintained over the years. As it has gotten older it has had trouble keeping up in ther hot/ humid summer months. The Family Air technician looked things over, found the unit was low on freon, added a couple pounds and gave me the option to add a dye to help detect a leak if there is one. I was surprised that the dye was more expensive than the freon, but figured it would be worth it if it helps keep this old unit working a little longer. I've read about and heard so many stories of companies immediately claiming older units can't or shouldn't be fixed and trying to push a new unit on people and was so grateful Family Air didn't do that! I know my days are numbered with this unit and when it finally does give out on me, Family Air will be doing the replacement! Until then I know I can count on them to help me keep this thing running as long as possible. read more

It's probably a sad comment that the thing that blows me way about Family Air is that they schedule appointments quickly, phone if they're running late, and nearly always show up on time.
