My washer was out of balance... I tried researching problem online, discovering the repair was beyond my capablity. My neighbor Bill told me I could pick up a good used replacement at Family Appliance Dunedin. I stopped in and spoke to Ken Sr. We discussed fixing vs replacing. It was decided his son Kenny would call me to make an appointment to diagnose problem. Kenny called to let me know he was on his way. He professionally and accurately figured out what was wrong. Yes, parts and labor were high, but I really liked my washer and a new one would have cost hundreds of dollars more. I was given a written estimate and told I would receive a call within a few days when parts were in. Phone call received as promised. Date set, I received a call when he was on his way. Yes, it only took him a short amount of time to replace the bad struts and lid switch with manufacturers parts, because he knows what he's doing. I did receive a small discount for paying cash. Yeesh. I had Family Appliance out for a repair on a broken stove, and while I will say that they were professional and timely, their costs are outrageous. I have no problem paying for expertise, time, and labor, but this repair took 5 minutes, no tools, was a $20 piece of equipment (probably less when bulk-ordered), and this "family business" charged nearly $200. Absolutely insane markup. Look elsewhere for a real honest business, please. Lesson learned to Google my own repairs in the future. read more

EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE! I had read positive reviews of Family Appliance by strangers on NEXTDOOR app so I decided to call them to repair my 2003 refrigerator. "Kenny" was able to come within 2 days and he fixed my fridge after quickly recognizing what was wrong. He is that experienced!!! He did not rush through the fix, tested everything, and even cleaned behind and ON TOP of the fridge and the floor, without me asking. He barely made any mess at all to begin with but behind my fridge was...pretty bad. He explained to me everything he did and gave me tips on how to preserve the life left in my dear 20 year old GE. I have not had to get this appliance fixed much but today's bill was cheaper than the ones in 2021 and 2012. "Kenny" was very pleasant and I learned a lot. These people are unfair based on there word. I had them out to look at a washer and got a quote for $145.00 plus tax. Based on this I approved the repairs. Once finished the bill came to $211.00 and basically the owner said OK take it apart and just bill them for a service call when i disputed it. This is not up front or business practices made in good faith based on a repair estimate. Not happy they should have given me a true estimate up front not after the repairs were made adding additional charges for items I did not approve. This was a scam in my opinion beware! Note the tech gave me the estimate in writing and called the office to verify the pricing. read more

this place is apparently closed. there was a big CLOSED sign in the front window, the app did it was open from 9am - 1pm on Saturday. I drove around to the back, no CLOSED sign. there was a sign that had the hours on it. I tried to open the door, and it was locked. I tried to call, the phone did not ring or anything, it just popped up with a 'user busy' message, I tried several times. oh well, I heard it had lots of parts that 'traditional' do not carry. oh well, it is what it is. read more

New to town we moved into a place that had a dying fridge. It is a huge unit and it looks nice so we wanted to know if it was worth trying to fix. We called and Kenny was out before the end of the day. He diagnosed the problem, got the proper parts, reconnected the wiring and voila! repaired for $150. Stopped by on a later date and looked over appliances. Talked with staff and they said they could have someone out before the end of the day and they could look over our current washer and dryer and tell us if it was worth trying to save. He was out by 2 pm and within 10 minutes diagnosed the transmission being bad and not worth fixing. Bummer. When we were in the store earlier on this day staff explained the newer front loading LG's aren't very trustworthy. They have lots of dryers they have had to fix. The old stackable units were better as they have been around a lot longer and are a lot more trustworthy. When he was out to look at the washer/dryer he said don't buy a stackable (all in one unit) as they are old and tend to die and are hard to work on. Wow, same business and two completely opposite recommendations. So, going by what we already knew regarding front loader units (had them in our old house and they were both amazing) and that stackable/all in one's are harder to come by, we decided to sit on it and look on Craigslist for a replacement unit(s.) Our first experience was 100% amazing which is why we went back a 2nd time. The 2nd time the person was there 15 minutes, took our $48.50 and left. Staff said if we went through them for a new to us unit they would deliver it for free. We would not require delivery as we have our own truck and we live less than 2 miles from them. read more

My oven started flashing codes then died! I called Family Appliance and sent service out within 24 hours! The technician came 10 min early and I liked that! He scoped it out, found a bad tech board, had to go back to the shop, get estimate, and order the part. He found out the part was no longer available but that the board could be rebuilt. It was also recommended that the control board be replaced as well. I did some research and found the possibility that a newer board might replace the obsolete board. Overall, this business did what they could and I will consider them for future jobs. read more

On one hand I understand wanting to get paid on the spot, but not taking a credit card number in advance from me as an out of state landlord made it impossible for me to use this company. My tenant should not have to come up with cash. Went with another company and there were no issues at all with payment. Called family appliance out on Tuesday as our fridge needed a new water valve installed. They sent a guy out to tell me it needed a new valve which we already knew. They charged me $50.00 to tell me what I already knew. The man then said they had to order a part for $60.00 with a $40.00 labor fee to install that part, and it wouldnt be in until the following Monday. Frustrated at this point I rationalized with it being the holiday week. Then we heard nothing for over 10 days the guy calls comes and does the install and charges $70.00 for the part and $60.00 for labor which took him 15 minutes to install.
