Recently moved from out of state, I had a new pt appt. with the NP, who seemed pleasant, I thought she was listening to me about a medication I stopped, and others I'm still taking. Then a week later, I received a rude, insulting, and thoughtless note on the patient portal. It was like I had been talking to a wall at my visit, and she wasn't in the room, she hadn't even bothered to read my patient notes. She refused to respond to me in the patient portal for over a week. The note really upset my husband, and he placed a call to the MD over the practice. It was after that, their less than processional office manager, and the NP, conference called me with a forced apology. I would not recommend this practice. read more

My family and I have been very impressed with this practice. The providers are excellent. Dr. Lloyd is such a good listener, and I felt like she took my concerns seriously. Before my appointment, she had already read up on my situation and was prepared to discuss it and make a plan with me. I intend to request her again. On another occasion, I had a painful rash that I couldn't identify, and it didn't fit anything I searched on google. Dr. Butler saw one picture over the phone and instantly identified it, and she was right! I had early stages of shingles, and she was able to help me before it looked "typical." I was so impressed. The only thing Dr Butler cares about is taking taking as much money from you and your insurance company as possible. Even after I paid $500 cash (full payment), she called my emergency contact numbers to scrounge for insurance money. She's taken as many as 3 copay payments for a single appointment. Checked in for routine blood work at 10:05 for a 10:15 appointment. Sat till 10:45 and asked what the hold up was. I was told I didn't check in. Front staff is lazy and don't care. Too busy doing nothing. Staff also Rude. As I left, one shouted sarcastically, "Have a Nice Day!" Typical crap attitude and customer service that has become standard these days. I'm a new patient with Dr. Butler and so far things are not going well. I show up early and she doesn't show up at all. She has a family emergency. Okay, that can happen. Someone else fills in for her. She is nice and I'm happy so far and things go okay that day. I call in the next day, because my prescription is all messed up. They call back three days later. To late to change the mess up then. Then I call for a doctor referral, three days later. And I'm still waiting for a call back on that.............Not a good way to start out ! read more

Would give zero stars if I could, I cannot warn you away from the practice strenuously enough. I helped my mom get set up with Medicare and choose Dr. Butler based on positive online reviews at US News and another site. Feel pretty terrible about that decision. First of all, only ever saw a series of PAs. Was told would be scheduled with Dr. Butler and then wasn't. Medication refills not sent after repeated calls, or were incorrect. Last visit with PA (again was assured beforehand would be with Dr. Butler), PA was rude, never physically examined or touched my mother, and did not listen to her own experience about her health. Was told she needed a referral, but no referral was initiated. When my mother gave feedback about that very upsetting interaction, she finally heard from Dr. Butler: to tell her to feel free to find another practice. This when my mother is currently scheduled for major surgery in less than a month. And then to top that off, my mom (after years of vigilance) got COVID. She called immediately about Paxlovid as she's at very high risk and of switching to a new practice takes time. Her calls were never returned: presumably their pettiness extended to putting my mother's life in danger. Again: I cannot warn you away from this practice strenuously enough. read more

THE WORST PEDITRICIAN (office) YOU WILL FIND IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA. Guaranteed. I was thrilled knowing our primary Dr. for our entire family was right across the street from our neighborhood. However, after the past 3 visits to Family First primary care I would rather drive to Virginia than to have to experience one more time of stepping through their doors. 2 hours and 25 mins (first appointment) BEFORE BEING SEEN 3 hours (2nd appointment) BEFORE BEING SEEN 2 hours and 15 mins (3rd appointment) BEFORE BEING SEEN While Dr. Butler embodies empathy and a true passion for what she does, her lack of time management is more than JUST concerning. The level of disrespect she has for the patients is one have not yet experienced in my 15+ years of visiting a professional office for a scheduled appointment. It's not just a one time occurrence. It's.every.single.time. Every-time you think, maybe she's got it together this time...she doesn't. I work from home and I am lucky enough to be able to keep our 4 month old home with me. I missed two hours of work (before even being seen) and our schedule was completely disrupted again because of Dr.Butlers complete unawares for others. DO BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not okay, it's not okay to your staff who has to apologize over and over and over again on your behalf it's not okay to the people waiting behind the patient you are already two hours late for None of this is "okay". The roll of her eyes and sheer annoyance could have been felt throughout the office. After I hung up the call, because she was at her computer. Liz didn't introduce herself, she didn't ask me how I was, she didn't acknowledge my 4 month old, she wrote down I was a new mom however if she would have treated me with any ounce of professionalism she would know this was my second child. Point being...she didn't treat me like a human being. The details get even worse...hopefully you get the point. The thought of this person practicing medicine honestly makes me sick to my stomach. Was she so annoyed from my 15 second phone conversation? Was it because I was her last appointment of the day? Fun fact, she was in the parking lot faster than Forrest Gump ran to Jenny. BE A BETTER PERSON!!!!!!!!! I decided to sleep on it and have a conversation with Dr. Butler on our next appointment, which was in 4 days. I began going to Family First when I moved to Florida in 2017. My first visit was with Dr. Jensen and I loved him. He was very caring and even noticed that Mayo had made a mistake and did not give me the proper prescription when I was released from the hospital. He called them while I was sitting there and asked Mayo to call in the correct prescription. On my next visit to Dr. Jensen, I was informed that he was no longer there but I was to see Dr. Butler. On my first and only visit with her I was impressed but from that day forward everything has gone downhill. I will not get into the staff but to say very unprofessional, never return calls and are no help whatsoever. Also, the wait time is awful. I have seen about four different ARPN's and it seems like nobody knows what was done or is being done, so we start all over. On several occasions lab results and one bone density test have been lost. I got a letter this week typed by the receptionist stating that my blood work was "outstanding" but they could no report the values. They were trying to locate the report but nothing would show in my patient portal. Well, I have a portal with Quest and the report was not outstanding as I have several areas that were very low or below range and said I should see my doctor. Well, I am taking these reports to a new doctor, a specialist, and getting their opinion. I can't put my life in the hands of people who can't keep up with records or return calls. Last thing, for goodness sakes don't cancel your appointment or they will lock you out of your patient portal. I cancelled an appointment for labs in July because and l am going out of town to my daughter's for the month or so and would call back when I get back to reschedule. I thought I was being courteous so they could put somebody in my place but it seems that does not matter or how long I have been a patient - so l am now looking for a new primary care doctor. read more

I've been going here for years and I really liked it. Until yesterday, I had an appointment and was running a little behind, I called the office and they said I had a 15 min late window before I would need to reschedule. Okay so I show up exactly within the 15 min. Now the lady at the front desk doesn't even ask me my name she tells me to fill out a Covid form. So I did and then she disappeared for a several minutes and another lady helps me out and starts to process my payment for the day. Then the lady finally comes back and asks my name and she tells the woman processing my payment to stop and not charge me because I need to be rescheduled and I won't be seen today. I was like are you freaking serious? I was here on time and she walked away taking up my time window. Such a jerk. I won't be going back. I had no previous issues except the wait time for the doctor to show up. The doctors are never on time for their appointments making you wait hours sometimes and when you are on time you have to reschedule?!? That's ridiculous. read more

So far I am unimpressed. I have been here a total of three times now and they have yet to get me in at my scheduled time, or even within 30 minutes of my scheduled time. The nurse practitioner is good. The business processes stink, with less than professional receptionist that behave as if the patients (paying customers) are an interruption to their day. Apparently I am after the lady sitting beside me who has been waiting for an hour. If and when I make it in to see the doctor, (I reported drug interactions on my last visit to get blood drawn and they required another apt to speak to someone.) I will let you know... So it is a couple weeks later. After finally getting to see an LPN she prescribed a med that uses a pen for injections...went to the pharmacy and they informed me that I also needed a script for the needles that screw into the pen. Double checked with another pharmacy and they said the same thing. My wife has now called the doctor's office 4 times over the last two weeks and been sent to voicemail three times without getting a response. The 4th time she got a nurse's assistant and was told that they would talk to the doctor and get right back to us. They didn't. Instead they just submitted a refill for what I already had (the pen). Of course they didn't bother to tell us that either. I called again today and, of course got sent to voicemail. So I decided to come in to get this dealt with. Its 40 minutes later, a conversation with the office manager and I finally have a prescription (as well as further excuses) "it's the pharmacy'". "The LPN may not have understood". Etc. That still doesn't excuse the lack of return phone calls. This has got to be absolutely the most unprofessionally run organization that I have ever experienced. The shame of it is, that the actual LPNs and techs that I have met have been spectacular. You just can't get past the incompetence of the office staff and the callous disregard they have for people and their time. read more

My entire family has been seeing Dr Butler , and sometimes her NP Tiffany McLain, for over 5 years and we absolutely love her and everybody who works there. Yes sometimes the wait to be seen is long but it's worth it because Dr Butler gives you 100% care and compassion on your visit. She takes the time to explain results etc to you and treats you like family. When my brother and sister in law passed away 3 years ago the office staff and Dr Butler took time to send me a sympathy card and a phone call. Dr. Butler and the staff are very nice. Dr. Butler takes her time with you and seems to genuinely care about her patients and to want to help them. HOWEVER, the WAIT TIME is CRAZY. I have only had 2 appointments with Dr. Butler and both times took me 3 HOURS to leave. My second appointment was at 1:45pm, I showed up at 1:20ish, didn't see the doctor until 4:15pm and then left the building at 4:45/4:50. My first appointment 3 weeks earlier went the exact day way. The staff was very nice and seemed to have sympathy for me because of the long wait. With my first appointment I tried to brush it off and assumed that maybe it was a slammed day. have been seeing Dr. Butler for over the past 3 years and I am now walking away to find another place. The issues have been building up over the past couple years.... I always scheduled myself to see her Nurse Practitioner since I would get in and out without much of a wait. But with Dr. Butler, you better bring a book.... cause if you get in and out within an hour count yourself lucky. But anyways, I last saw her in the beginning of March and she told me to track some stuff and gave my my normal meds (1 month only - normally i get 3) and one for an item along with orders to get bloodwork. Then COVID 19 blew up and guess what.... I am an essential worker at the ONLY school that is open in FLORDIA.... The kids live here and keeping them at the school is for their safety and i totally agree with this. I only go to work and home... Temp checks daily and we wear masks. Per our directives to protect ourself and the kids is this: If we get sick or a family member - we have to be off for 14 days... If we have a temp of 99 or up we have be off 14 days... If we go to a doctor or a place that could have COVID we need to be off for 7-14 days. Got it... So in late march i contacted Family First and spoke to someone and explained that I will not be coming in for my appointment that week due to COVID and my job. I expressed to them that I am going to hold off on getting my labs done until COVID due to not wanting to be around sick people or having to take off of work. I then asked about getting my normal meds prescription wrote so i could pick it up (curbside) and get a script for the supplies for the devices she had me get.... I was told ok they will get back with me... So i called back a few days later and was told my request was denied due to the fact that i needed to be seen to get the meds... I expressed to the person that again i always get 3 months worth and she only gave me 1 month.... I can't come in otherwise i have to take off... how about the supplies for the device??? nope... She then looked and saw i was in there last month and then said lets schedule you an appointment in june and ill remind her that she only gave you one. I said okay .... The following week i called and I spoke to someone else who said i didn't have anything to pickup so i started again all over but she put me on hold and spoke with the person i spoke two last time and came back on and said oh doctor butler isnt here this week but you will get ur meds next week.... okay Today i called and again spoke to someone who informed me that yesterday Butler denied my request again saying i can get them in June... along with NO script for the supplies for the device..... I am so beside myself that I am writing this. I am now going to look for a new doctor that cares and works with their patents. read more

Let me begin by saying Dr. Butler herself is a nice person. I think she truly strives to help her patients. But unfortunately there have been too many mishaps and unprofessional behavior by her front office staff to make this review lose stars. It is well known throughout the office that Dr. Butler runs late. And I am not talking about 10, 15 minutes late. I am talking an hour or more. It doesn't matter if you are the first appointment of the day, or first after lunch. She WILL be late. And you will either be stuck in an uncomfortable waiting room, or stuck in a room, and once you are there, you will not see another human until Dr. Butler finally arrives. I will say that she does actually sit down and look you in the eyes. No "one hand on my laptop, the other on the door handle" for her. So you do get that sense of compassion, which so many doctors lack. But say you are recommended to see a specialist. Her office, regardless of how your insurance handles referrals, will tell you that the "referral coordinator" will call you soon. This unfortunately is not the case. I was recently referred to get an echo cardiogram based on a visit in which a heart murmur was heard. It took a month and a half for this referral to come through. Now to me, if it is serious enough that it warrants that kind of test, shouldn't it have been an ASAP sort of rush? Nope. Even though I have explained my insurance does not need a referral, that is just how the office runs. Then there is the added headache of medication. You are expected to come back on a monthly basis. I finally said to them that my insurance insists on 90-day scrips, for chronic medications. If we don't do that, it will start being denied. Not only that, but I can't afford to take hours off work, because let's face it, you WILL be there for hours. Calling the front desk for any reason warrants a xanax and more patience than I have in my body. Either they answer "Family First" and out you on hold immediately, or their automated line comes on And you wait. And wait. And then it routes you to a voicemail, where you know you are gambling on if someone actually calls you back. And if you are lucky enough to actually get a live being, be prepared for attitude galore. It's like being back in school and being scolded. Look, I don't have time to sit here and listen to this, especially since I've been on hold or called numerous times. If you are so unhappy in your job, find another! Please! I am in the process of leaving the practice. I can almost guarantee this post will come along with a call from the office manager, who seriously is just about as helpful as the front desk, albeit without an attitude. But when she admits that "Dr. Butler always runs late," yet nothing in the three years I've been at the practice has changed, then you are just as much a part of the problem. And no amount of "I'm sorry" will fix that. I can only imagine how it will be to try and retrieve my records from this office. Wish me luck. read more

This is my family's primary care provider. I'm very pleased with their service except for their no show policy. I called to schedule an appointment for the next day, but then as life is known to do, something came up that would prevent me from keeping the appointment. I called the same day to reschedule and they did that but told me my rescheduling would count towards the no show policy. I told them that I don't understand how that could be because I was informing them about this 24 hours in advance. It's not like I just didn't show up. If I did that that's one thing, but that's not what happened here. Anyway, I now have the proverbial first strike against me for no reason. read more

Dr. Butler has been our primary care physician for 10 years. She cares for both my husband and me, and she has been there for us thru routine visits, serious illnesses, broken bones, and more. I have been to this practice twice now and I certainly will not be going back. On my first visit, I saw Monica Spurlin, the nurse practitioner. She sent me for the usual tests - mammogram, blood work, bone density and an x-ray for my lower back. I mentioned that since purchasing an Apple watch, I've noticed my heart rate jumps from 50-125 beats per minute constantly. I asked her if she thought it was a problem with the watch. She stated it wasn't the watch and nothing else, so I wasn't really concerned. When I returned this Monday to discuss the results of the aforementioned tests, I was checked in by a nurse, who immediately reacted to my irregular pulse rate. She completed an EKG and then Ms. Spurlin came in the room holding the EKG read-out. She kept pointing to parts of it and stating, "this shouldn't be like this" in a tone that implied I had done something wrong. She stated I had an electrical issue in my heart and needed to go to the ER immediately because I may have already had a heart attack or be having one shortly. I mentioned that I had just lost my 15 year-old dog one week ago and had been extremely upset about that. She didn't even respond to that, which is a bit unsettling from someone in the "caregiver" business. Grief is often a variable in issues like the ones I was experiencing. After spending hours in the ER, I was told I had ventricular bigeminy and that they did not have a cardiologist to see me. I was discharged with instructions to see a cardiologist in 3-5 days. No Dr. saw me in the ER. The following morning, I called Family First and provided the name of the cardiologist I would like to see so a referral could be made. Today I was at work and called Family First and asked to speak with the Dr. or the nurse practitioner. The person who answered the phone said that Ms. Spurlin said I just needed to go back to the ER. I explained that I was told there is no cardiologist in the ER two nights ago and I didn't see the point of going back to sit for hours and then be discharged. Apparently, addressing my concern was not important enough for Ms. Spurlin to get on the phone for 30 seconds. I then called my insurance company to follow up on the status of the cardiology referral. They had not received anything from Family First. I called back and was directed to the referral desk. I asked why it had not been done yet as this seemed like a high priority. I was told by the woman in referrals that she left the office at 2:45 yesterday "to spend time with her children and would get to it". I was able to speak with my insurance company again and the person I spoke with was mortified by the way this office handles patients. She switched me to another PCP and made an appointment for me tomorrow morning. I have seen physician's assistants in the past; however, when an issue is high priority, the doctor on staff would have been involved. I have not even seen Dr. Butler in the office. I certainly hope that the deficient treatment I experienced at this practice is an anomaly as I am from the Tampa Bay area and have always had wonderful doctors. *As an update, I had my appointment with Island Doctors this morning and I met with an MD, who spent over 2 hours with me. After completing an EKG, the Dr. advised that I do, indeed, have an irregular heartbeat but most certainly was not about to have a heart attack. The treatment was thorough, the Dr. was kind, compassionate and knowledgeable and the staff is wonderful. Today I received a call from Family First because they were billing my insurance and saw that I had a different primary care physician listed. I explained that my insurance provider updated it yesterday. I was then asked if I was keeping my forthcoming appointment. It's quite illuminating to see that the only interest shown by this office is related to their getting paid. I advised the person I spoke with that I would never set foot in that practice again and hope that I never meet a nurse practitioner with the abysmal people skills and sub-par medical skills of Monica Spurling. read more

We moved here from Minnesota 5 years ago. My doctor is Dr. Jansen and my wife's was Dr. Butler. My wife had the same kind of experience as others who wrote reviews - that the wait time was horrible, staff was unresponsive, etc. She finally gave it up and now goes to a different doctor. My experience with Dr. Jansen has been great. Mostly on time, not too bad of a wait, and very competent. But I did have horrible service from the front desk. Nobody would ever pick up the phone, I would leave messages, and no call back. However, the last 2 times I have called, somebody did pick up and was very helpful. When I visited the Jansen a few days ago, I noticed that they had more staff and the ones who I thought were rude were not there. So, I am hopeful they have fixed their internal problem read more

Horrible... OVER AND OVER. I scheduled an appointment to have my daughter's wart on her knee removed, AGAIN... Today, check in at 2:45, they promptly collect my co-pay, I sat there for an 1 hour then the receptionist stated they don't have the stuff to freeze the wart off. Plus when upset she was extremely rude and rolled her eyes and giggled. In the past, I had a routine check up, Dr. Jensen said I had a heart mumor rushed me to the ER. At the ER, they rushed me in and said they would get back with me, however, I called several times and Dr. Jensen is unavailable so I scheduled an appointment he then stated he never received the results. A year later, I get a bill for over 860.00 dollars so scheduled another appointment to discuss it and he said my heart looked great with no heart problems at ALL. Honestly, the check in staff is rude, doctor is unorganized, and they have too many patients to keep track of. The blond that works the front is ALWAYS a rude and needs to be let go.
