This group is sensational. We found them through my mother's retina specialist and were so impressed with both the staff's and Dr. Knapp's wonderful service--not to mention their beautiful variety of eyeglass frames! The entire staff possesses a wonderful bedside manner and treated my mother with such compassion and patience. Dr. Knapp is incredibly thorough and spent close to 2 hours with my mother, who has macular degeneration, trying various magnification lenses and offering suggestions to help my mother's vision. One of Dr. Knapp's assistants was so lovely and spent 1 hour with us, meticulously picking out frames and testing my mother's old lenses. I only wish we found this group sooner, but am so happy to know that my mother is in great hands with such a fantastic group! read more

Very disappointed with my last appointment with this group. I have purchased several pair of glasses from this group. I went in specifically to see if my frames for one pair could be fixed. I did not need new lenses as the lenses I currently have are not the issue. I was told the frames could not be fixed. I told the assistant which type of frames I was looking for, I was told they did not have the specific frame in stock. I asked for something similar to the brand I have. As it was getting close to 5pm,which is their closing time, I sensed that they no longer wanted to assist me. The assistant had another assistant tell me that they could not just find a set of frames without me scheduling an exam since it had been some time since my last exam and that I would need new lenses along with a frame. I reiterated that I am not having problems with the lenses and only need the frames. I was told they could not assistant me. The assistants were quite impatient, unprofessional and not very cordial. The appointment was a complete waste of time. The group is not what it used to be. Extremely disappointed. read more

Wonderful clinic!! Made up of father, mother and two sons. Not only has the Holden Family Clinic serviced this area for many years, they have helped people outside of their business as well by getting involved with the community, using their free time to raise money for various causes, and volunteering with charitable organizations as well. Dr Tom Holden was Mayor of the city and during his tenure, more good was done than had ever been done before or since. The clinic is beautifully run. The front office staff is kind and efficient. When they tell you your appt is at 10:15, you walk in at 10:15 or shortly thereafter. Dr. Knapp is an OUTSTANDING doctor! Absolutely outstanding. My husband goes to Dr. Tom Holden, and Dr Holden has done a most excellent job with taking care of him. I had the opportunity to see young Dr. Jack Holden once and he is every bit as thorough and professional as his parents. This is top notch care. We are very lucky to have them as a community. they are better than most places. i had one doctor before that wanted to treat my eyes separate than together .i had each eye different strength nessary treatment.wasn't satisfied with that idea of eyecare. i hit the jackpot when i found holden and knapp's family optometrist group.they set me up with eye lasik surgeon in camarillo.i wore glasses for too long.lastly i want to say the holdens are good people and i trust them. hey have you peopleat holden and knapp, ever thought of having a senior citizens discount or a group discount.specificely i describe places that are retirement homes. i am currently recieving rehabilitate services at lawndale health care. that by the football stadium in our neighboring county.some people, i mean the elderly , here at lawndale elderly care. complain of head pain because it's been so long since theyve had corrective eye doctor services. read more

DO NOT be fooled by the 4 star ratings! This place doesn't even deserve my 1 star! The employees at this establishment do not tell you the hidden costs and fees that come with the exams until it's time to pay. For example there is a SEPARATE $60.00 "contacts training" fee added to the 120.00+ "depending on your contact lens fit" exam fee for all you first time wearers. 60 bucks for someone to just sit across from you and tell you how to put something on your eyeball. Most places include this "training" in their much lower cost already. DR.KNAPP IS RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL telling me the fee is "for her time". She was really gonna just argue with me about why they charge what they charge blah blah. What professional argues with the patient especially when I was the one who was trying to be calm and collective and even had to stop her from being so defensive! I've never in my life paid $200.00 just for a contacts eye exam! NEVER! That's not even including the contacts that I decided not to buy at this place after being ripped off! I've been to a lot of places in my 20+ years of going to the optometrist and never did I ever HATE a place this much! If you do but want to get ripped off then DO NOT go here! How the hell are they going to charge me 120.00 one week and then 140.00 a few weeks later for a different family member who had the same eye exam!!! Also it's $120.00 for the eyeglass exam that they say is automatic and if u want contacts then that was it's own added charge. So if u do not need an eyeglass prescription then you better be stern with them and tell them you don't want it or better yet save yourself time and money and go elsewhere. read more

I've been going to Dr. Holden forever. I still go to him and I don't even live in Oxnard anymore. Dr. Holden is always really nice and visits aren't painful and go quickly and smoothly. He has me wearing the most comfortable contacts for my eyes. I went to another optometrist in San Diego once and they were impressed with my contacts that I had been wearing. I think that's saying something. I decided to get a new pair of glasses, and I really like them. I don't know how to pick out glasses, but the lady in the glasses section was very helpful. She also has helped my dad leave his huge, 1980s square glasses that they don't even make anymore for a more modern pair. My whole family goes to Dr. Holden, and he's also the mayor of Oxnard. The girl who "helped" us was beyond rude, first of all. Secondly, we were there for over 2 hours! Are you kidding me! They schedule so many patients at once, they had me in the room for about 40 minutes the first time then another 40 the second time! The lady in the front seemed like she was in a bad mood as well. Terrible experience! Never coming back. The girl who was helping my son pick his glasses was staring at him with a straight face the entire time, which he later told me it made him feel rushed and uncomfortable as tho she was upset she was helping him. And another thing, when going over the charges I asked about a charge and asked her to take it off because I felt we didn't need whatever it was and I noticed she was bothered by that as well. I agree with the post with Brandon C... the lady seems to try to make a sale and commission. To me, eye glasses are eye glasses. I have 6 pairs of eye glasses. My insurance covers it, so I just get them when I'm due for one. I go to different places. But this place stands out the most. Too bad it's for their bad service and misleading information to sale you something you don't really need. I wanted simple glasses but insist on other glasses. To find out later they were more. I don't mind paying but trying to sneak things in are too sad. The lady sold my wife a transitional glasses for a glass specially use for office desk/computer. The lens she was already getting are for computers. But stated the the transition glasses are good in the sun and for driving... supposedly transition glasses has a life time warranty on the lens but I'm sure there's a sub charge for that service she didn't mention. I don't recommend this place. There's plenty of other places to go to. You can just pick one out in yelp and it will be better than this place.. read more

There was an employee on crutches and was oh so nice and the doctor as well ... she seemed very knowledgeable and was grateful for the visit . This office is very complete-starting from when you walk in the door. The eye exam is very thorough. The people who help with selecting frames are very helpful and the selections are great. I brought my 4 year old grandson in for an eye exam because it looked like he had a growth on his right eye but when Dr Knapp examined him, she said he didn't and gave him some eye drops which cleared up in about 5 days. She said he must have gotten something in his eye and rubbed it til it got agitated. Dr Knapp was very good with him as she has always been with me and my exams. I have referred other family members to this office and they too agree that Dr Holden and Dr Knapp are very good. We have been very satisfied! I get there and they charged me 70$ to tell me I had to go somewhere else because they don't do what I had specifically asked them for when I called. Terrible Office. Extremely rude office staff. Claims to accept insurance and would not even bill insurance. Office refused to give a copy of prescription and said he was supposed to know to ask for it. He is 86 in poor health with failing vision and was treated this way. I brought my sons prescription to the office because they can fill the prescription through his insurance, so nothing against the doctors. It was the staff... Made the appointment was quick and easy. Upo going there after being screened, it seemed like our appointment was just thrown in on the spot and then rushed. Going back to the family room, the woman who helped us took the frames we were using and asked if i was using insurance. I said yes, of course thinking that covers all cost on the prescription. Then she proceeds to quickly say "okay it'll take about a month. You realize the frames will go with the glasses. We'll call you." #1. Clearly, i have two glasses for him. A back up and a his regular pair, but she was too rushed to realize. THEN I had to ASK for her to measure my sons eyes. He has eye problems so we take this seriously, especially the placement to keep his eyes aligned. She said "it's only been a year." I said "he still needs to be measured for correct eye placement." So she proceeded to get the machine to measure his eyes. It was quick and she made the comment "he only grew half a millimeter" in a sarcastic tone. And we left under 10mins of being there... we got the call for curbside pick up 3 weeks later. The outdoor staff was nice and handled everything. When i got the glasses i noticed they weren't transitional. So i took a few moments to reassess and make sure. Sunny day and still clear. I called them... the office lady answered and proceeded to tell me insurance doesn't cover transitional lenses. I expressed that it says it there on the prescription and he needs it for his eye condition. I would have paid for the upgrade but NO. she proceeds to tell me that any upgrade is considered at cost and I'd have to pay full price. MY question was WHY DIDNT ANYONE TELL ME BEFORE HAND!? Her response "because you said yes when asked If you were using insurance." Well, thank you for such clarification of what insurance does or does not cover after WAITING 3 weeks. Now my son refuses to wear them because he can not see in the bright light. At cost to them mean "okay, you can pay $220 for the lenses. We'll give you 20% off so it's $176" oh and yes, that'll take a month. AGAIN. I've never felt so rushed or ignored in my life. This offended me as a mother who has taken great care to my son eyes to ensure that he has proper treatment. read more

This is as good as eye care gets. We have been going to him for years and have felt so lucky that our friends recommended this office. They are so up to date on eye health that you leave knowing that you are doing the best to keep your eyes healthy. They have a new camera that takes pictures of the inside layers of your eyes to detect any problems early, before you get eyesight or infection problems. When we got our glasses redone the gal was very conscious of cost considerations. We were able to ask for a rush on them and they made that happen. Your exam will take about an hour because they put those drops in your eyes etc. but come on, it is your sight we are talking about. Dr. Holden and his staff are nice and professional you won't be disappointed. read more

Staff was great ! Doctor did a wonderful eye examine. Would never get another pair of glasses from them. I paid over $700.00 for my glasses. I noticed the anti glare was doing a bad job. At night cars headlights and street lights doubled in size with the glare , daytime the glare gave me a headacheI can not imagine driving when it rains. I called and explained the situation, they ordered me lenses with the best anti glare (that they carry). First question I ordered the best on my lens and best darkening glass why did They give me the cheapest anti glare.......My main issue....they said if the anti glare they use does not work for me , they would gladly take my glasses back and remove the anti glare they put on and give me my $80.00 back......SO if is does not work instead of having glasses that I CANNOT wear costing over $700.00 I have glasses that cost over $. 600.00 that I cannot wear. I pray these lenses work better.....but ...I will never be put in this situation again....my sister informed me at least Walmart guarantees for any reason you don't like your glasses you can get another pair. I splurged on these glasses ....think twice...get in writing what they will do if you are unhappy with your glasses..... read more
