I have been to this office for 2 visits. My first visit was for an eye exam with Dr. Kristina Dea. I came in and a technician did the vision pressure and light testing with me. Dr. Dea did a thorough exam to get me set up with my first pair of glasses ever. She explained things well. I then went over to the glasses section to pick out a pair of frames and had my measurements taken and the technician also let me try on glasses outside to see what they look like in the daylight. I returned 2 weeks later to have my eyes dilated for the rest of the exam as I was not able to have them dilated at my first visit. I had my 2nd exam with Dr. Rebekah Klein. She was great too! It was in this visit that my glasses were ready for pick up. I got progressive glasses because I have some vision loss for distance and it's been really hard to read on my phone. So they are pretty much worn only for driving and when in my phone. I feel I am still getting used to the glasses when driving. I also want to comment that the front desk staff have been nice and have returned my calls quickly when I have had to contact the office. read more

I like this place. I get my yearly eye exam here. A few years ago, on my first visit, I was randomly assigned Dr. Klein. I've been very happy with her care. She is very thorough and explains things well. I'm also very impressed with the staff at Ventura Optometric Vision Care. The workers at the front desk are unfailingly courteous and efficient. Let me give you an example of how efficient this place is. When your glasses are ready, the office sends you a notification. Contrary to what you might expect, you don't need to schedule an appointment to pick them up. You can just drop by anytime and they will have someone available to take care of any adjustments needed to ensure a comfortable fit. So convenient! The location, on Victoria is also very convenient. As is the private parking lot. The waiting room is spacious and reasonably comfortable. There are magazines for people without phones. There is also a children's play area. Oh, and they have a pretty huge selection of frames here too. Frames for days. So many frames. I mean really a lot. Maybe like a thousand. I'm not kidding. Maybe more. Have been paying $30 per box for my contacts all of my life, (same insurance, same contacts, same prescription) and all of the sudden since going to them I now have to pay $120. For 2 boxes. Make that make sense? I only went to them bc my previous Dr has since retired. I will never come here again or recommend them. The show room does not disappoint!! I've been to a few other local optometric offices but this one is by far the best! The office was very clean and had plenty of staff. I believe Laura helped me pick out my glasses and she was beyond patient as I picked out maybe about 10 pairs! We had good laughs, and she made great recommendations. I think this was my third visit here. Regardless who I've seen the staff is kind and efficient. I looked at glasses and ordered a new pair, but also told them I was attached to my old pair. The man helping me was a new staff member, he was sweet enough to see if he could get me new nose grips for my old frames and tightened them to fit better. I thought that was kind and I didn't even imply it was needed. We're recommended our family members here and they've had a great experiences as well. read more

When I got new insurance, they looked at my card and weren't able (didn't try?) to confirm that I had vision insurance, despite my confirmation, screenshots from app etc - so they did not see me. Rescheduled for next day and I was running late, was scolded on arrival. Suggestion: Be professional and say that you wish you could accommodate but you can't. No acknowledgment that it was their own incompetence that resulted in my not having my prior day appointment completed, just scolding for being late on the next day. I found this place in the Fall of 2023. I was looking for a place and on yelp there was this great review about Ventura Optometric. I have Medí-Cal and of course wanted to find a great place that takes it! The last time I used my Medí-Cal was December 2019 at a different place where my eye exam was covered but the selection of glasses was like 3...so back then I got the eye exam but didn't get glasses which is pointless. THUS I WAS LOOKING FOR A PLACE LIKE VENTURA OPTOMETRIC! Where I was given a good selection for my needs! The assistants/techs who help you beforehand are also very helpful, patient, and kind. The assistant/tech did some of the tests before I met Dr.Dea. I had no idea that my right eye could not see what my left eye could! I got a thorough exam at this place and all staff including Dr. Kristina Dea took the time that was necessary with me. Dr.Dea let me know and explained astigmatism and that that was what was happening in my right eye. I've dealt with astigmatism for years and have had eye exams but never been diagnosed or helped. Thus this was a blessing! Finally I sat down with I believe Laura who helped me pick out frames, work within Medí-Cal, answer my questions, and let me know my options. She was very patient and helpful with picking out frames that fit me. I have high cheek bones so not every pair is the right fit. Also, I want something long lasting and that goes with everything versus needing too many glasses. Lastly, my glasses NEED ANTI GLARE FOR ME TO DRIVE SAFELY! Laura was helpful in letting me know what Medí-Cal covers and how it works. They don't let you add on things like antiglare because they have their own lab and at this time their lab doesn't do it. Fortunately when I had my appointment in January 2024 Laura said we can do a no insurance deal of $214 where you can get a pair of glasses with the add ons like anti glare that you need. I had brought in an older pair of glasses to see if reusing the frame and getting new lenses would be cost effective for me which Laura also did the run down with me. Thus we went through all the options and cost in calm and I went with the our Medí-Cal covers and the $214 for new glasses as I had a $200 health allowance from my AmeriCorps contract. I was told the glasses would be ready in 3-4 weeks. It really was and they called asap as soon as they got in. The office was also helpful in providing an itemized receipt so I could submit to my health allowance and be reimbursed for my glasses. It has been awesome that I can now see! It's been about 5 years without being able to use my old glasses as they were scratched beyond belief and dealing with low income. I will happily be using this office for my eye vision needs and have been telling friends and family! It's rare to find people who are kind, patient, considerate, and will take the time with you to help you through your needs. I deeply appreciate the help from this office and the ladies who just were so joyful and giving their joy when I came in. Again, that's rare because we all deal with stress and life problems. I've been coming here for years and have loved my experiences. I recently went after they reopened with COVID-19 precautions and was impressed. They took necessary measures and i felt safe going to my appointment. Michelle assisted me during the first part of my visit and she was so sweet. She made me feel comfortable and at ease. She was efficient and professional. This was my first appointment with Dr. Gilbert and she was phenomenal! She gave me her full attention and was detailed oriented. I really enjoyed our interactions and plan to continue seeing her. The reason for the four stars instead of five is due to the fact that there have been times in the past that I've waited a long time to see the doctor. I get they have other patients to see but waiting over 15 minutes just isn't acceptable to me. read more

This is an update to a previous review. Started with 23 days wait for my glasses, within a week I noticed they were heavier than previous pair and the blamed the frame so I had to a different frame to my dislike. I told them the weight was on the lens and not the frame and their answer was "they are high index" like because they are thinner they are lighter. I found in my own the high index lenses are actually heavier than polycarbonate. We are reaching the third week for the glasses replacement and after trying to call the office got a voice mail, I have left message twice and no call back. I ended up going to the office and I found out they never placed the order, I decided then to just order the polycarbonate lenses and after two more weeks no call back. It was time for me to schedule an annual eye exam and since my previous doctor doesn't take my current insurance, I took to Yelp and my insurance website to help me find an optometrist that took my insurance which lead me to, Ventura Opt Vision Care. I called VOVC around noon yesterday and was able to schedule an appointment for today at 10:00am. The lady I spoke with when booking my appt was sweet and thorough and made the booking process stress-free. The office building is directly across from Marie Calendar's, on Victoria Ave. From the 101, if you pass the government center, you have gone too far and passed it. The building has a small parking lot in the front, so if that's full there is also an underground parking garage. They're signs that say you can't park in the bank lot next door, just FYI. The parking garage is kinda sketch & could use more light so just be aware. The elevator is pretty quick, but you have stairs as an option. If you use the elevator, push 1...then make a right. I arrived to my 10a appt around 9:45a knowing that there was going to be New Patient paperwork to complete. Upon arrival, I signed in and was eventually greeted by one of the front desk gals. The office is really nice and open. It's divided into many sections: kids playing area, lobby seating, glasses/frames, contacts fitting and machines used for your eye exam- overall a nice office. Edith helped me check in and was extremely helpful in getting my insurance squared away. There was an insurance issue cause from the optometrist office in The Medical Office building in Oxnard, but thanks to Edith she was helpful in getting the issue cleared up. My pre-screening appt with the optometrist assistant was fine. She was quite and was really focused on her work, didn't small talk much. I waited a few minutes then my optometrist came in... Dr. Christina Tanouya, aka "Christina" is so personable and highly knowledgable. I'm so glad there was a mix up with the schedule today, because she ended up being my doctor! She conducts her exam very, very throughly and makes you feel very comfortable. I felt that she really valued me as a patient as well as my treatment. I highly recommend her, if your looking for a new optometrist. I'm excited to have found a great optometry office close to home! Spent almost $600 on a new pair of prescription sunglasses. Paid in full on December 5, 2023. Today January 9. I was talked into using Ventura Optometric's vendor for the prescription lenses as opposed to going with the sunglass manufacturer Oakley. I was told 2 weeks. 3 weeks maximum. I went in last week to check and they said to come back today. Instead of driving over I decided to call first. The glasses division voicemail was full. It transferred me to the front desk where it said they were busy leave a message. I did not. Instead I drove there. upon arrival I do not see the reason the front desk couldn't answer phone calls. They are not that busy. Instead, I had to wait almost 20 minutes for someone to come from the back to tell me they had yet to receive my glasses. Maybe Friday. Then get the I'm sorry. Some remedy. I feel they have over promised and have under delivered. Both my other prescription glasses done at Oakley and Maui Jim came back much sooner (within 2 weeks). Not pleased at all. read more

I had been going to this office for years under the "care" of Mark Bozek. I had an emergency one day and needed to be seen immediately. His staff put me thru the third degree to get an appointment and Bozek was rude and condescending when I spoke with him on the phone. My office was in the same building as his, he has known me for years, I bought all my expensive eye glasses from him, his kids were friends with mine and this is the way the guy treats you. I have been using this place for years, the doctors have been great, but the optics department has been getting worse gradually. This year I had an order for glasses set aside until new year when my plan benefits reset. I just needed to call the optics department after the holidays and give them a credit card number to process the order. Sounds easy? I called 4 times on 4 separate days, got a run down by a receptionist:"All opticians are busy, I can leave them a message, they will call you back" After a week, I took my money somewhere else. This was going to be my second time here but I've cancelled and went with another eye doctor due to Edith's rude voicemail and her actually hanging up on me when I called. My first experience was great and the contact woman was so accommodating and efficient. The doctor I saw was also professional and timely. However my low review was because of Edith. She left me a voice mail saying she was going to cancel my spot if I didn't call her back. Some people work too and cannot return a message within a 14 hour time allotment. I have a large face and very few frames fit me. They worked with me to get a brand of frame they don't stock but are a distributor for. The glasses are excellent. They took their time with me. And the Doctor even caught the fact that I was beginning to develop cataracts which my previous Doctor didn't catch. And even though I didn't think my insurance covered eye exams they checked and they did. So it saved me about $150. After my initial eye exam I bought a pair of regular sunglasses. And when I came back to get prescription glasses they gave me a discount as a repeat customer. When I got my new glasses I had 20/15 vision. Couldn't be happier. read more

She figured out the best contact lens close and mid distance combination for me. She explained what she thought was best for me and she was absolutely correct. This was my first time getting an eye exam and I'm relieved I came here. The office seems very clean and they are following social distancing procedures. I downloaded and filled out the patient forms to email them ahead of time. When I got there I didn't have to wait long. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Dr. Le explained everything thoroughly and she was efficient. I ended up getting some glasses and the person explained the prices and what my insurance covered. Mitsuuchi and Shiroyama have always provided their service with me in the utmost care, and in simple, personable terms. This place used to be a 5 star. But now is a one or a two at the most. It has changed ownership about a year ago about June or so in 2020. Since then it has gone downhill badly. My wife has been waiting since December of 2020 for correct glasses. They must have changed their lab also because its now been 4 times that the glasses have to be redone by their lab. Went in yesterday (Aug 5, 2021) to again get redone glasses only to find out from Laura that they again are not right and have to be remade yet again. Now it will be another 4 to 6 weeks to get the glasses that my wife should have had 6 months ago. I've been going here for around three years. Although I love Dr. Tanoya I cant take it from their incapable staff any longer! First they give you an appt one year ahead of time and if you don't confirm it they cancel you. For example they send me a text reminder of my sons appt. but since I didn't confirm it it was cancelled. They dont seem to understand what an inconvience it would be for me to confirm everyone of my family's appts. I decided to make an appt. with a new Doctor, but couldn't, because VOVC already preauthorized my visit even though I hadn't even seen the doctor yet. When I called the office I talked with one girl, who left me on the phone to go be with a patient , soon I'm explaining the same story to a second girl. I was recommended to Ventura Optometric by a very close friend and I was very pleased. Ellie and Dr Kassar were fantastic, they were very personable and professional. I have a lot of anxiety at doctors offices but they were very understanding and patient with me. I appreciated that they took time to explain the process to me (glaucoma test and eye dilation) and were able to keep me calm during the tests. They take a very thorough history and pay special attention to details which made me feel important, I was very impressed. They have extended weekday hours which was a big bonus to me so that I do not have to take time off work to see them.
