Been having issues with my left eye and also came to see if my prescription had changed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Absolutely terrible experience I have ever had with an eye doctor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This is someone I had been seeing for years - including the older Dr. Funnell. However, my last visit in 2025 was my final visit. This doctor tried to diagnose me something very serious and recommended that I see a specialist that wasn't even qualified to diagnose the condition he suggested. He also stated what he said were facts about the illness, which were incorrect. Needless to say, he scared me to such an extent...that I did go to a specialist. I didn't have the condition. The handling of it was callous and impersonal. I have moved on to another eye doctor and will never visit this one again. read more

Dr Funnell was ok, he recommended drops for my dry eye that made my eye tear even more profusely, (miebo), a mail order prescription , not covered by insurance and very expensive, every piece of equipment. My chin or eyes rested against was never wiped down, very unsanitary , [[HIGHLIGHT]]called front desk, staff the following day in reference to an ophthalmologist that was referred to by Dr.Funnell said she would get back to me later that day. I was seen by the younger dr. Funnell. He spent a good amount of his time to give me the exam. He also answered all my concerns in details. He even told me that since my prescription has just a small changes, the new glass won't really make a difference. I can either get it or wait. So that was a first... my old OD had always tried to get me to get a new glasses by talking me into it. Then I had to spend $500-600 just to get a new glasses that didn't really make a difference. Dr Funnell is a great guy, a great doctor and always a delight to visit for my eye exams. His staff and he really treat their patients like family. And who doesn't love going over his hi-tech scans of your eyes on his giant computer screen! Recently, I had a detached retina, which ended up needing 3 operations by 2 specialists to repair. After the retina was reattached, due to an overcorrection with my cataract lense, I couldn't focus and felt as if I was offbalance except when I closed my affected eye and looked thru the other. Both specialists just shrugged their shoulders and mumbled "give it time" or "better than being blind" sort of platitudes. I was seriously considering an eye patch and "going pirate"! When I took my problem to Dr. Funnell, he immedietly was able to explain it and come up with a solution that has made my predicament much more livable. Thank you, Dr. Funnell! read more

I went this office about 4 months ago. Finally got my glasses about two weeks age. They are still not adequate. All I received were excuses and a $200 rebate. I went in to order a pair of glasses, was quoted a certain amount, went over the bill at least 3 times (maybe more) and now I am getting a call saying they need more money saying they screwed up on their pricing. If i misquoted over and over again, I would take care of it yet they will not. I will never go here again. BEWARE on who and what you're getting. Especially like the consultation given by the doctor on general eye health and potential problems on the horizon. I have been visiting Dr. Funnell since I was 12 years old, almost 20 years ago when they were located in the mall. I have always felt they put my best interests first rather than the sense that I am viewed as a cash pinata I feel when I walk into some other doctors offices. Their office worked with me through the years of poor-college-student, there are some strong reasons I make the trip from San Francisco to keep returning. * Dr Funnel is always on the cutting edge of new technology and research in the field. He is excited to discuss it and frequently has recommendations on new products available. * I have never had my pupils dilated. I have had many confused looks from friends over the years when I mention this. Dr Funnel has alternative equipment available that makes dilation unnecessary in many routine cases. * The front-desk staff are amazing. They are always cheerful and I usually find myself in a friendly conversation at every visit. * Rapid response time. I wholeheartedly recommend you see Dr. Funnell for your vision care. I have been wearing glasses since grade school. Over the years, I went to about a dozen ophthalmologists and optometrists. It was not until I went to see Dr. Funnell that somebody diagnosed my true condition - I have a malformed cornea that requires a different treatment - not glasses. After seeing Dr. Funnel my corrected vision significantly improved. It has been fifteen years since that first visit and over that period he has continually added more advanced diagnostic equipment. Dr. Funnell enthusiastically stays current with the research. During my last round he prescribed a new type of contact that will get my vision to 20/20. We had our whole family there for eye checks and since it was my son's (6) first eye exam and he can be very touch phobic, I thought it would be good to see my husband & I get our eyes checked first. Dr. Funnell, spoke directly to my son & asked for his help doing our exams. My son was thrilled he got to push buttons to take pictures of our eyes & totally got over his fears quickly. His exam went much smoother than I ever anticipated. Dr. Funnell was very throughout in his exam. We received a full explanation of our eyes & their health. We've been going to doctors who use the digital retinal scan for some time now, but no one has been as great explaining everything to us as he did. He was great with my 3.5 year old and made us feel welcome and comfortable. While I was picking out glasses, my then 3-month-old became fussy and hungry. Very Nice office they have very cool equipment not like other optometrist that their equipment is very old. They have a nice play area for kids that keep them entertained for a long time. Came here with my son (5 yo) for his first eye dr app. The staff was great with him and the kid corner was keeping him entertained while I finished paperwork. Went to the back for his eye exam. Love love love Dr. Funnell and his staff! Made his exam into a game which kept it fun and entertaining with complete cooperation! Found that he needed eye glasses and went to pick some frames. After talking to my son about the style he wanted (Clark Kent) they picked some for him to try and he loved them. We will be coming here for his future eye care needs. read more

Be careful and specific with this Optomitrist. I made an appointment for both myself and wife to have refraction exam leading to a new pair of glasses. I made the appoint for today ( Aug. 07 ) and asked at that time with his office staff Liz if he worked with Eyemed and what was the copayment. SH replied that they did work as a provider under the Eyemed plan and the copayment was $20.oo. I further asked at the desk at when checking in and was told they did take Eyemed and the copayment was $20.oo. We, both, were run thru three machines by his staff and I inquired what's all this was about. We were told it was part of the exam. When we checked out we were EACH charged $49.oo. I asked what the additional charge was for AND WAS Told that was for the exam. I spent 1 hour getting my refraction exam. DR Funnell spent 45 minutes telling me all about his career, medical condition etc on and on and a lot of smoke about the health of my glaucoma, macula and retinal health. ( I thought that was an Opthalomoligist job to diagnosis.). He finally got to the refraction and that is what I came for and that took less than 10 minutes. My wife went thru the same routine. BYER BEWARE Dr Funnell blows a lot of smoke, medical terms he doesn't explain. BAD INVESTMENT. read more
