We are on Tricare and I didn't have any problem visiting their site and setting an appointment. No mention of a referral was needed as compared to a review given in Mar 2025. You may have to pay out of pocket a bit but they have very patient and knowledgable staff, great equipment, and never felt pressured to buy anything. Both of my children and myself saw them while we have been in Camarillo only for a short bit. We are military so unfortunately we don't stay in areas very long. The staff asked for my medical insurance information, in case they did a test that my eye insurance didn't cover. When they started to do the test, I told staff that I didn't need it because I was going to do it at the ophthalmologist's. The staff member said it was "required," so I did it, but my medical insurance didn't cover it, saying it was "unnecessary testing" at an optometrist's office. My glasses were defective, an incorrect measurement and sloppy placement, and had to be re-done. Office staff had not checked them before calling me to pick them up. The distance vision is not quite correct. Office staff made another appointment for me for a follow-up that I didn't request or know about until they texted me for confirmation. Again, it was unnecessary because of a planned appointment with an ophthalmologist. read more

They will not see you without a referral from your PCP even though both Tricare's website AND calling Tricare myself confirmed that for routine eye exams you DO NOT need a referral. Dr. McCarthy is the best eye doctor I have ever been to. I feel cared for and important. Nothing is more important than health, it's not something one can get back once it's gone. He is extremely kind and patient, and I truly feel that the care and satisfaction of his patients are the priority I feel listened to and that everything has been checked thoroughly. Everything is also clearly explained so you know what the procedures are and the costs. David in the front office, is extremely helpful and friendly with eyeglasses' assistance. He is an asset to your workplace. He makes people feel welcomed and important, and you are never an inconvenience or rushed out. He goes beyond what he has to in order to help you. He has graciously assisted me on several occasions with a pair of eyeglasses I had that were very tricky to adjust/modify due to its design. It seems rare these days that you can go anywhere and receive even satisfactory care or customer service despite the costs and wait time and you also encounter people who just seem like they don't want to work, so this defies expectations. I would rather go out of my way whether in time or cost to come to this office, and will do so for as long as I am living in California. You can't go wrong. You can go to a generic place like Lenscrafters, where it's expensive and feels mediocre, or you can come here. read more

This office is AWESOME, to say the least. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and nice. The office itself is updated up to COVID standards- they even purchased an updated machine that removes the annoying dilation process from the eye exam. It scans your whole eye ball, allowing the doctor to have the best visual on your eye so he can make the best diagnosis, AMAZING. I seriously felt like I was in a movie, so cool. Dr. McCarthy is the doctor I saw, he was kind and easy to talk too. Obviously a very good physician. He took his time to explain to me what was going on with my eyes, as I hadn't had an eye exam since I was a child. With that being said, I am super happy I chose this office to come too for my exam. I went to this optometrist because I started having problems reading because of my age. Did the whole test thing, which went without a hitch. After the exam I had a bunch of issues which Dr. McCarthy helped me through with advice and OCEANS full of patience. Bad customer service and they upselling an Optimap service for an additional $40! I'm coming in as a new VSP customer and I make an appointment with them with the option to cancel the extra service. I was informed that I could cancel the extra service once I saw the dr. However, instead Laury K. at the front desk told me that I couldn't cancel any service. I told her I was told otherwise. She had me take a seat and she went to the back to talk to the doctor. She lied, by this point I was 20 minutes past my appointment and she calls me back up to tell me that since my appointment had lapsed I would have to reschedule or wait for the person in front of me to be seen. Keep in mind I had a 10:00 am appointment and to was 10:25 am when she was telling me this. I told her I was not going to do that and I told her to remove my information from their database. I left their office with not being seen or talked to by the doctor. Bad office do not go there! read more

I cannot recommend Las Posas Eye Care more- Dr McCarthy and his staff are so warm, welcoming and professional! They go above and beyond and are the kind of customer service you don't see much these days. From the moment we walked in and were greeted by Laurie we felt at ease and taken care of. Dr McCarthy was so thorough, knowledgeable and explained everything so we had total understanding. We were there for my son, but he even took note of an issue with my eye and gave me some tips to look out for to make sure it was okay. When we were leaving, David, the optician, even came out to our car in the parking lot because he overheard me mention I had glasses that needed repair and he wanted to make sure I knew I didn't need an appointment and what hours they were available to bring them in for repair. This place really changed in a year. Dr. McCarthy is amazing and super friendly. The staff are friendly as well except the lady when you walk in. I talked to One of the staff members I explained my work schedule and she said if I have to wait here for 5 mins I will . I was super thankful. So I called the next day to go pick up my contacts and called and told her I'm on my way from Thousand Oaks . Well the lady at the door answered and she well well we close at 5 so I hope you make it. So I'm trying to rush during traffic. Got there just in time but dont have one staff member say one thing and another be completely rude about it. Plus it's really sad to say this place definitely over charges for glasses and eye exams and even contacts! $600 for a year supply and that was "including my insurance" so I went somewhere else and got them half the price. Plus dr.McCarthy said what he had me try on was a cheaper brand to save a little money. But my new place said no that's the more expensive lens. I have been a patient here since back when Dr. Heller was around (who has since retired) and recently last year when it switched to the care of the equally AMAZING Dr. Nguyen. From the moment you walk in and throughout your visit, you are greeted immediately and just feel so welcome. There is a warm, comforting spirit about this office. Appointments are easy to schedule --- you can even BOOK APPOINTMENTS ONLINE yourself directly on their website. Once last year, I had an irritating redness in my left eye that persisted, so I looked online and, within seconds, I had an appointment for the next morning (by the way, Dr. Nguyen diagnosed me right away and gave me drops that had the redness disappear within hours!). Visits are timely and I've never had a lengthy wait to be seen. The receptionists are always super friendly and the techs are personable and informative. And of course, Dr. Nguyen is knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner. He shows a genuine concern for your eyes and their health, and keeps you up-to-date with the latest technology. During your appointment, you are everyone's #1 priority. The visit is never rushed and you are encouraged to ask any questions or bring up any potential concerns. What I love most of all about this eye care practice is that they genuinely care about me as a patient, and it shows every moment I spend there. They even host annual patient appreciation BBQs where they give away yummy food and, my favorite part, raffle off AWESOME PRIZES!
