We visited this Famous Dave's in Wisconsin Dells for lunch on a Tuesday in May, 2023. While the restaurant is on the main strip that runs through Wisconsin Dells, it was very quiet. this probably reflected that it was mid-week and also pre-season. We had previously been to the restaurant's location in Oakton, Virginia. We were greeted quickly at the door, and shown to our seats. Upon reviewing the menu, we were quite surprised by how expensive the prices were. Recognizing that meat and grocery prices had increased over the past year and that we were in a touristy area, we proceeded to order. I ordered a Texas Beef Brisket Sandwich ($17.99) which came with one side and spicy Hell-fire pickles. I ordered the Garlic Red-Skin Mashed Potatoes as my side. My husband ordered a Georgia Pulled Pork Sandwich ($15.99), with French Fries. Overall, the food was tasty but a little light on the quantity of meat on the sandwiches and a bit dry. That said, Famous Dave's offers a choice of extra sauces at each table so that was quickly remedied. As mentioned earlier, we found the restaurant to be expensive. Upon reaching home, we compared the Wisconsin Dells prices for our sandwiches with the same items in Oakton, Virginia (a suburb of Washington, DC), and found that EACH sandwich was priced $4 more expensive in the Wisconsin Dells. The restaurant was clean, and inviting. Service was good for in-restaurant dining. They also have a take-out window. Food quality: 4/5 Value for money: 2/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 5/5

It's become a tradition for our family to go to Famous Dave's on our first night at Wisconsin Dells. Somehow we ended up at the downtown one instead of our usual one. There are two Famous Dave's in town and tis is not the one with a big parking lot. But we were still able to park nearby, and they had plenty of room inside the restaurant to accommodate our group of 14. Being a large group, we were surprised they were able to seat us right away. Downside: the spot they put us in was pretty tight, but once we were sitting the only reason that mattered was that the server couldn't reach half our table. There was a lot of passing drinks and dishes across the table to those on the end. We keep coming to Famous Dave's because the food is delicious. Lots of tasty barbecue to choose from, and we like the variety of table sauces. There are usually more sauces on the table than there were this time. Our end of the table only had two of the sauces (they'd pushed a few tables together for us), and the other end had three, so...more passing things down the table. But if we didn't already know to look for them, or if we'd been a smaller group at a two-sauce table, we would have missed out. Some of us ordered the All-American BBQ Feast. It had a good variety of meats, plus cornbread muffins and fries. So, so many fries. Like, way more fries than we needed. I would gladly have given up most of that pile of fries for one more slice of brisket (which was a little light). But still, that food is delicious, so I guess we've gotta keep coming. Some of the kids in our group ordered kids meals--no complaints about the chicken tenders. And the kids also get pig ear hats, with activities on the back, to keep them busy while waiting for food to arrive.

What's not to love about Famous Dave's? Great food, good service, clean and tidy, fun atmosphere.

I've bought the sauce. I've bought the sweet and spicy pickles. However I think this was my first time eating in a Famous Dave's. We got cheese curds which my son chowed down on - they were tasty. I got the beef brisket. While I thought it was a little light on the amount of beef, it was very good as super tender. Wife got rib tips which her and my son ate and enjoyed.

Consistently good no matter the location. Service was prompt and with a smile. Brisket was just right as usual.

I went with just my two children (5 and 9). We had to wait in line to check in, but then we were seated right away. I noticed larger parties had to wait a little bit, but not long. When you check in with the hostess, they explain how everything works and what's included in your price. Then you can order additional drinks with the hostess. You pay right at the hostess stand before being seated which was kind of cool, so you don't have to worry about it later. You also have the option to tip before or after. Once you sit you are brought any included drinks (white milk, apple juice, orange juice, coffee), purchased drinks (chocolate milk, lattes, etc), and donuts. The donuts were fantastic. I asked for a decaf latte but they didn't have decaf. The latte was still good. They then bring out small plates of ham, sausage, eggs, biscuits with gravy, and pancakes. All of it was delicious. Your wait staff checks in with you consistently and asks if you want any refills on food. It's all you can eat! Of course on your way out you have to check out the fun gift shop!

BUYER BEWARE: GIFT SHOP WARNING Be extremely cautious making…read moreany purchases in the gift shop you're forced to weave through when entering and exiting. We bought our daughter a NeeDoh squishy, and before we even left the parking lot to head back to Chicago, it was already broken. The original cashier was wonderfully sweet and swapped it out without hesitation. Unfortunately, the replacement broke within seconds of normal use in the car. When I went back in for a refund, the cashier understood, but the manager on duty took over and refused to process it. She flat-out refused to give her name (so I'll call her "Karen"), accused my daughter of breaking them by "squeezing too roughly," and claimed they've sold thousands with zero returns. I pointed out that most tourists buy items and immediately drive home, which explains why people don't return. She remained firm, rude, and refused the $8.99 refund. My daughter owns plenty of squishies that last for months--a good manager would recognize a defective batch instead of blaming a child. Unless $9 is coming directly out of her paycheck, there's no excuse for that attitude. RESTAURANT REVIEW As for the food: expect a fairly long line depending on the season and time of day, but once seated, the service is good and the all-you-can-eat food is solid. Just note that kids' pricing is no longer "pay your age"--it's now tiered pricing by age (I've attached a receipt photo for reference). VERDICT: The restaurant itself is definitely worth a stop to eat, but completely skip the gift shop trap. If an item is defective, management won't care and will blame you for it.

We were seated then the waitress Heather comes over. She kinda looked at us and scoffed then continued to wait her two tables . We Waited about 15/20 minutes for her to come over and introduce herself And when she did, she did it a little quickly like she was in a rush then said she would be right back and went to another table . That's fine. But we were ready to at least order water. She didn't give us menus until we got the water. Seemed stressed but she only had a couple tables and there was at least two other waitresses running around with her. So we get our water and I ended up with the rocket pop mimosa which was amazing btw, order it!!! It's not good until the Popsicle melts though. Anyways, we finally get our Order in and wait about 35 minutes for our food, mind you she didn't check on us after we got our drinks. Didn't give us the silverware or napkins we were missing. She checked on the other tables but not us. Didn't ask for a refill on water or offer a pitcher of water for the table of 6 (mind you), just crazy. Food finally comes and still no napkins even after we asked for some. Didn't give the Apple butter we asked for or sour cream so we asked again. By then she seemed annoyed. Some of us got biscuits, some got cornbread and instead of individually putting it on peoples plates, it was on one big plate. Not sure if they are lazy or if that's what they do but didn't seem right. Heather comes back with the rest of our stuff and she asked if everything was good now and we said yes except something with my mom's food, I honestly forgot what it was but I know that Heather corrected her on what she said which I found ridiculous because regardless it was the same thing, just said differently and it's disrespectful to try to correct a customer as though my mom didn't know what she was talking about. So she gets whatever it was and comes back. She then kinda looked around our table and was like "sorry guys we're short staffed, and corporate just came in so I'm in the kitchen giving them my demands since I'm finally heard" and we're like uhm yea good for you, except that not really a reason to abandon your table. SHES then said "I'm fighting for myself because they only pay me $2.32 to do this and I barely make tips.." and I just thought wow. Because it was almost like she wanted us to feel sorry for her and try to coarse us into tipping her, which we did although the service wasn't good. I don't tip people for them doing their job, I tip them for going above and beyond their job that's asked of them. However in this case , she did neither. --- this was three years ago when I last came here, just thought I'd share. Not sure if service has been better since then.
