It's become a tradition for our family to go to Famous Dave's on our first night at Wisconsin Dells. Somehow we ended up at the downtown one instead of our usual one. There are two Famous Dave's in town and tis is not the one with a big parking lot. But we were still able to park nearby, and they had plenty of room inside the restaurant to accommodate our group of 14. Being a large group, we were surprised they were able to seat us right away. Downside: the spot they put us in was pretty tight, but once we were sitting the only reason that mattered was that the server couldn't reach half our table. There was a lot of passing drinks and dishes across the table to those on the end. We keep coming to Famous Dave's because the food is delicious. Lots of tasty barbecue to choose from, and we like the variety of table sauces. There are usually more sauces on the table than there were this time. Our end of the table only had two of the sauces (they'd pushed a few tables together for us), and the other end had three, so...more passing things down the table. But if we didn't already know to look for them, or if we'd been a smaller group at a two-sauce table, we would have missed out. Some of us ordered the All-American BBQ Feast. It had a good variety of meats, plus cornbread muffins and fries. So, so many fries. Like, way more fries than we needed. I would gladly have given up most of that pile of fries for one more slice of brisket (which was a little light). But still, that food is delicious, so I guess we've gotta keep coming. Some of the kids in our group ordered kids meals--no complaints about the chicken tenders. And the kids also get pig ear hats, with activities on the back, to keep them busy while waiting for food to arrive. read more

This famous Dave is one of the two restaurants in Wisconsin Dells. The one in downtown is the oldest store. We found a parking that not required to paid and walk to the restaurant. The restaurant has two floors. We got the one close to front window. The visit here is different in the chain store in Tennessee. The menu is a bit different. They no longer have the dry rub in the combo plate. We got the famous feast. It has St. Louis rib, grilled chicken and Georgia chop pork. The rib is still tasty. The chicken skin is crispy. The pork is just ok. It also comes with garlic toast, corn bread, potatoes wedge, coleslaw, corn, and BBQ beans. Food is a lot but not as good as the one in Tennessee. Service is average. Seat is good. The decoration is more like the pit BBQ. read more

Funny how one chain location can make you want to never visit any location moving forward. We waited to be treated then were told to go upstairs where we waited to be seated. The place was practically empty Our 8 year old ordered the mac n cheese. Right on the menu, it states KRAFT mac n cheese... THIS IS BRILLIANT as many know kids only like what they are used to and those extruded noodles are the real deal for them... hence, the second star... Let's hear it for Kraft Mac N Cheese. We each ordered the salad with brisket. The salad lacked imagination and crisp and the brisket was well done, over done and pretty awful, the chef should lose his/her job for allowing it to leave the kitchen. Just not impressed and I'm the guy who doesn't spend another hundred dollars to see if they get their act together or if another location is doing it better... they all suffer as a result. read more

We visited this Famous Dave's in Wisconsin Dells for lunch on a Tuesday in May, 2023. While the restaurant is on the main strip that runs through Wisconsin Dells, it was very quiet. this probably reflected that it was mid-week and also pre-season. We had previously been to the restaurant's location in Oakton, Virginia. We were greeted quickly at the door, and shown to our seats. Upon reviewing the menu, we were quite surprised by how expensive the prices were. Recognizing that meat and grocery prices had increased over the past year and that we were in a touristy area, we proceeded to order. I ordered a Texas Beef Brisket Sandwich ($17.99) which came with one side and spicy Hell-fire pickles. I ordered the Garlic Red-Skin Mashed Potatoes as my side. My husband ordered a Georgia Pulled Pork Sandwich ($15.99), with French Fries. Overall, the food was tasty but a little light on the quantity of meat on the sandwiches and a bit dry. That said, Famous Dave's offers a choice of extra sauces at each table so that was quickly remedied. As mentioned earlier, we found the restaurant to be expensive. Upon reaching home, we compared the Wisconsin Dells prices for our sandwiches with the same items in Oakton, Virginia (a suburb of Washington, DC), and found that EACH sandwich was priced $4 more expensive in the Wisconsin Dells. I've been to many Famous Dave's across the country. This was definitely my least favorite. The food did not have a smokey flavor as expected and relied mostly on the sauce. It was open later then many things in the area so that is a good thing. Most food in the area gets a 2 star so if you need BBQ and nothing is open, the food does have a good quality, just not good flavor. read more

ZERO stars if we could! Stopped in for lunch today, was the first table in the restaurant. We couldn't figure out why our 3 year old granddaughter kept spitting out her food. We looked and the mini corn dogs were molded! One adult ordered baby back ribs and was served St. Louis style ribs. Another ordered a chicken sandwich and threw up within an hour of eating it on the ride home. Manager was upstairs in the restaurant and notified of the kids moldy meal and the ribs, he did take both off our bill and an additional 10%, but clearly there is some major dysfunction in the kitchen! Somewhat surprised to see this location has as high of an average star rating as it does. I've been to a few different Famous Dave's locations. This one is interestingly decorated but screams were just after your tourism dollar. On each of my two most recent visits (yesterday & few months ago) I found the service was very impersonal. I had to ask for a drink refill yesterday and almost could feel the waitress was bothered by having to do so. I used to enjoy a dinner at Famous Dave's but of late the quality just doesn't seem worth the price. My family of four can expect about $100 bill wirh sodas. It's a palatable meal but just doesn't do anymore than fill the stomach. As I write my review I'm questioning how I came to give a three star rating. It's not a bad meal. It's just not anymore than average. If I'm in the Dell's spending my tourism dollars I just want a little more wow factor. read more

Two of us came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't that busy but strangely they had us sit upstairs. It seemed odd because there seemed to be open tables downstairs. Anyways, our server was super nice. It was weird sitting upstairs because it was empty besides one lady. The restaurant itself had a mediocre appeal and seemed kind of shabby. Surprisingly though, if judging on ambiance, the food was tasty! I got pulled chicken that was super yummy with a mix of the sweet sauce and devils spit sauce. Fries were just okay. Came here for lunch after a day in the Dells and found ourselves a little disappointed. We both got the 2 meats and 1 side dishes with brisket, boneless wings, and Mac and cheese. The brisket was a really fatty piece and lacked much smoke flavor. The chewiness of it really made it undesirable as well. The boneless wings were very good, fried perfectly and well sauces. The Mac and cheese was lack luster and didn't have much flavor. The restaurant itself is actually a pretty nice looking place, but I wouldn't recommend coming here on a rainy day. Our waitress deserved 5 stars, because after my hubby picked this place to eat dinner, he realized the only thing on the menu he could eat was a salad with a few pieces of chicken and tomatoes in it. Together they created a menu item he could eat because of dietary restrictions. Note: They have a separate menu listing all the allergens in their regular menu. It's crazy! The food ended up being just A-OK. I ordered a nicely-portioned pulled pork sandwich, along with one of my kiddos, and the truth is it wasn't very warm. Since I was starving and since our waitress already went through enough of a challenge, I ate it and shut up. I was glad there was extra sauce on the table, because it wasn't super saucy. The variety of sauces available made the experience fun...and wonderfully messy. The restaurant was clean, fairly overpriced like all the other restaurants in Wisconsin Dells, but it seemed to be the best option around at the time. The sauce that they add to the pork was delicious, the corn bread was great. The coleslaw was ok, but not great. I went to Famous Dave's on Wednesday night an hour before the stated closing time and was denied dinning in since they were closing in "5 minutes." I still wanted Bar-B-Que so the next day I decided to give it another chance. The service was good and fast, but I think it was due to the lack of customers. The restaurant was quiet and empty when I dined in. I decided to share a two meat plate with someone else and I think it is a great option for two people who are not starving. For the plate we got the Texas brisket and the rib tips with our sides being Mac and cheese and potato salad. The best thing on our plate were the sides. The brisket and the rib tips were not that good. They were very dry and the meat itself were in pretty small portions for the amount of money. I would not recommend the place but if you are looking for Bar-B-Que then it might satisfy your craving. Honestly I would just recommend you take a trip to Texas for some good Bar-B-Que. read more

We came here, because we were here about 13-15 years ago. We couldn't find it, we thought they've moved, but I do remember it too well, it was by the sign Welcome to Wiscon-Dell, and that was the first time we even heard of that 'name'. We parked our car, in front of their restaurant, and we sat on a booth by the windows. I was told by our server, it must have been in the Downtown area, when we were here last, but never mind about that . . . he must have been in diapers STILL. LOL I remember the onion rings! I remember how great, it was THE BEST BBQ ribs I ever have eaten in my life! Back then, but this time I ordered the BBQ chicken, and side dish of Onion rings. I tasted hubby's flanked grilled salmon, he said it was delicious, but I like my chicken better, except we have enough to last for 2 more meals! Our server was very, very helpful, when I told him I needed foil instead of a box, because we have a cooler, and he understood. We've already checked in our Holiday Inn Express, but decided to go out & have dinner. What we didn't know, was, once we got inside our hotel, there was a page for 10% off @ Dave's, and we didn't use it. As a Minneapolitan who comes from the home of Famous Dave's, I found this location to be just okay. We visited for lunch, and I wasn't really hungry so I ordered a loaded baked potato side as my meal. It was fine, nothing terrible but nothing special. My mom had the brisket plate with coleslaw and fries. She said the fries were standard but liked the brisket & slaw. My dad had the Manhandler sandwich with brisket & hot links. He loved it & liked his beans. The biggest issue was the service, our waitress was pretty MIA & took a long time to even come ask for our drink order. I don't know if it was because we were on the second level, but she just kinda phoned in her serving. We should've heeded the warnings from the low reviews and stayed away from this particular Famous Dave's store. We came to Wisconsin Dells because of our daughter playing a volleyball tournament. After the tournament it got late and we were hungry. We have eaten at Dave's before in the twin cities and decided to order from this store for pick up. We ordered the feast for 2 and an order of rib tip. When we got to the store for pick up we were surprised that we were overcharged by about $7. We complained to no avail. We brought the food back to our hotel to eat. The ribs were cold and very dry. It did not taste anything like the ribs we've eaten at other Famous Dave's. The rib tips were also dry and hard. We don't have a Famous Daves in Chicago. I think there's some in the burbs but since I don't venture out to said burbs very often, I've never been. When I saw there was one in the Dells I figured it would be something fun to try so we went on in. The food was surprisingly awesome! I had the Memphis style babybacks and they were YUM! Far better than I was expecting. I also had the green beans and mac and cheese. My little dude was a big fan of both of those too. Our waitress was awesome (I think her name was Asia?). The place doesn't disappoint. Every time we visit dells, famous daves is going to be one of our stops. We always go with the feast for two. They serve ribs, brisket, chicken, beans, thick cut potato wedges, cole slaw, corn bread and corn. The ribs are always juicy and falling off the bone. Chicken was so good and tasty. This time I liked my chicken more which is surprising. The brisket is served with a Texas toast which is to die for. The corn bread is okay. Our corn this time was over cooked. I guess they are using frozen one's in winter- we have had their corns in summer and they were really good. The service is always good. The servers are attentive and always willing to help. I would say- if u are craving for a good bar-b-que, this is the place for u. We have been to their Madison location and the food wasn't even close. This place has awesome food. It's really good, but the service is terrible. Our hostess was so rude. She stared at us from the kitchen and didn't come to ask how many were in our party for 10 mins. She walked us and stared at this one spot on the carpet. When we walked over it we tripped apparently she knew that and didn't warn us. She sat us at a small table and walked away and and didn't talk to us. It was a long time before someone came up to us and asked what we wanted to drink. The brisket was awful there were six of us there and six of us got the brisket sandwiches I ate none of the brisket sandwich. The other five people ate a portion of the brisket sandwich it didn't even taste like beef it tasted more like I was eating cubed pork sausage or Kielbasa. I normally love famous Dave's, but this is by far the worst one I've ever been to. First, the place was not clean. Bathrooms were dirty, floor was sticky, etc... second, it was almost empty during lunch and the service was still extremely slow. The food was okay for the most part, but the ribs were tough and the baked potato soup was awful. Asked for butter for the cornbread and got 4 frozen packets. To top it off I opened "moist" towelette and it was dry. Another example of a restaurant in a tourist town that puts more emphasis on visual appeal than quality. Getting a good meal in the Dells is legitimate challenge. They just don't have skilled operators around here and getting and keeping good skilled employees in a challenge is such a seasonal location. Famous Dave's on the 3 visits we've had had spit out some pretty solid BBQ, and i mean that even compared to some overhyped bbq places in Chi Town. a.) convenient back of building parking and street parking. b.) phenomenal kids menu with prices between 5.29-6.29 with side, drink, cookie. c.) we bitched that the A/C vent was freezing us. It was lowered within minutes. d.) Dinu, an eastern european server, a Dells staple, was effecient, fast, and warm enough. Burnt Ends with the pickles and pickled red onions were dyamite. Rib Tips were on the large side. Im not a fan. But were tender and not fatty. Wings were medium size and cooked well done as i asked. Their hot sauce rocked and i added some of Dave's house sauces to it which are phenom. Carrots plus celery is great. Their BBQ salad was legitimate. Fresh and tasty with your choice of meat. Their sides are real deal. Beans, Slaw, Corn Bread, and Fried Potato Wedges are 4 or 4.5 out of 5 stars. This may be The Dells and the Licensed Operators here may be Israeli businessmen, but Famous Dave's on the end of the Strip in the DELLS is a must for LUNCH OR DINNER. read more
