It wasn't all that busy but of course, they were short staffed which I definitely understand but people shouldn't show their frustrations of that on customers, it's disrespectful. We were seated then the waitress Heather comes over. She kinda looked at us and scoffed then continued to wait her two tables . We Waited about 15/20 minutes for her to come over and introduce herself And when she did, she did it a little quickly like she was in a rush then said she would be right back and went to another table . That's fine. But we were ready to at least order water. She didn't give us menus until we got the water. Seemed stressed but she only had a couple tables and there was at least two other waitresses running around with her. So we get our water and I ended up with the rocket pop mimosa which was amazing btw, order it!!! It's not good until the Popsicle melts though. Anyways, we finally get our Order in and wait about 35 minutes for our food, mind you she didn't check on us after we got our drinks. Didn't give us the silverware or napkins we were missing. She checked on the other tables but not us. Didn't ask for a refill on water or offer a pitcher of water for the table of 6 (mind you), just crazy. Food finally comes and still no napkins even after we asked for some. Didn't give the Apple butter we asked for or sour cream so we asked again. By then she seemed annoyed. Some of us got biscuits, some got cornbread and instead of individually putting it on peoples plates, it was on one big plate. Not sure if they are lazy or if that's what they do but didn't seem right. Heather comes back with the rest of our stuff and she asked if everything was good now and we said yes except something with my mom's food, I honestly forgot what it was but I know that Heather corrected her on what she said which I found ridiculous because regardless it was the same thing, just said differently and it's disrespectful to try to correct a customer as though my mom didn't know what she was talking about. So she gets whatever it was and comes back. She then kinda looked around our table and was like "sorry guys we're short staffed, and corporate just came in so I'm in the kitchen giving them my demands since I'm finally heard" and we're like uhm yea good for you, except that not really a reason to abandon your table. SHES then said "I'm fighting for myself because they only pay me $2.32 to do this and I barely make tips.." and I just thought wow. Because it was almost like she wanted us to feel sorry for her and try to coarse us into tipping her, which we did although the service wasn't good. I don't tip people for them doing their job, I tip them for going above and beyond their job that's asked of them. First time at a Cracker Barrel, EVER! Wonderful experience. Great food; I had the Southern Fried Steak, Fried Cinnamon Apples, Dumplings, and Steamed Broccoli. The service was great as well, our server was Kaeerey Lee and she was wonderful! Kept checking in on us if we were okay and was very fast when it came to providing drinks and any assistance. To be fair this was my first ever visit to Cracker Barrel. I came because I saw them advertise a Hashbrown Casserole "Shepherd's Pie". Shepherd's Pie is my favorite dish, so I had to try it. What I received was pot roast and mashed potatoes with carrots and peas, topped with hash browns, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes and green onion. It was a Frankenstein mish mush. I was appalled. Once I got it disected, however and tried the items individually, they were ok. I might even return for the pot roast and the buttermilk biscuits which were both pretty tasty. Why they thought this would be a good combination though, I don't know. I also got some fried pickles to try as a back up and they were ok. They did give a healthy helping of ranch for dipping and from this one meal I can see why some people might like their food. It seemed pretty mediocre to me and I will probably always be upset about the shepherd's pie but luckily it's "for a limited time only". read more

Hostess completely ignored us standing right in front of her and checked in two others right in front of us, coffee was ice cold, waitress forgot silverware, cream, lemon, and brought us wet silverware when it finally arrived. Never did bring extra cream for the 2nd cup of coffee that was as cold as the first. The food arrived 25 minutes after we ordered but the table seated after us got theirs and finished by the time ours arrived. Had to ask 3 times for a coffee refill, and then it came without the requested creamer. Next time we will drive the extra distance and go to Jen's Alpine Cafe in Baraboo. Cracker Barrel may be known for their delicious eggs and especially pancakes (although the eggs were not warm on this trip, but they were happy to replace), for those of us non-breakfast food eaters it's the diverse lunch and dinner options which feed my belly. They have had the most delicious HomeStyle chicken sandwich for years, but it's not not he menu any longer. They have the ingredients but don't offer this specific item and our brand new waitress seemed apprehensive (or unsure) how to deviate. For example, my wife ordered tea with a side of milk, and she did not know how to provide a side of milk- only creamer- because they don't sell a side of milk. She eventually figured out pouring a small amount in condiment to-go container was okay, and the wife was happy. But no such luck with my sandwich leaving me to order from the standard menu which I understand. Unfortunately, the standard chicken sandwhich is quite sad. They offer aside of sauce you can pour in, but it didn't do the trick. The I am not sure how many fries is considered a side but this seems even less than a kids meal would have. I went to Cracker Barrel today to try their new menu item, the Butter Pecan French Toast Bake. Honestly, it was inedible--hard to chew, flavorless, and so disappointing that I couldn't eat more than one bite. I went back to bring this up, and instead of handling the situation with care, the manager was completely rude and dismissive. No compassion, no empathy--just attitude. When he asked what I wanted to do, I requested a replacement and ordered the Daily Dish Chicken and Rice. The description says it comes with two sides, so I chose mashed potatoes. The manager then told me that the rice was a side. Really? Then why call it Chicken and Rice if the rice is just a side dish? Might as well rename it "Chicken with Sides." When the food finally came, the portion size was ridiculously small--like something you'd serve a child. On top of that, the plating was a total mess, as if no one in the kitchen cared at all. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had at Cracker Barrel. Between the inedible new menu item, the dismissive manager, and the sloppy food, it felt like the restaurant didn't give a single thought to customer service or quality. Well, the garlic butter goes ALL over the plate causing the rest of the food to be drowned in this as well. Couldn't taste the scrambled eggs, or the hash brown casserole. I'm not the biggest fan of Cracker Barrel food but this is where my group was going so you know you go with the flow. It's set up like any other one I've been to. The rocking chairs in the front with some games and then you enter through the store. We were a table of four and we were sat promptly. Our server Jayvian greeted us promptly took our drink order and came back to take our food order. I ordered the Old Timer and upgraded my hashbrowns to the tots. I also ordered the chicken sausage as my side. The food came out quickly and correct. The food is pretty basic nothing super spectacular. Service was great. Location was clean. read more

I have been going to Cracker Barrel for a long time. This was the worst service and food we have ever had at one. So I have not been since they shortened the menu. My daughters both ordered hot chocolate which had zero hot chocolate mix or cocoa of any kind in it. Wife got black coffee that no one ever asked if we wanted refills. We spoke to our waiter twice once when he brought out the food and once when he delivered the bill. Eggs were cold, hash browns requested crispy came barely sautéed enough to not be considered raw. The best thing far and away are the biscuits. So disappointed in the experience here. read more

The food is consistent and reasonably priced. We always know what we will get. There are some long term employees here that we are starting to recognize. We travel by RV and plan our stops and meals around CB. LOL The little syrup bottles are nice to take with us and the grandkids think they are great too. We had the grandma's sampler and French toast. Normally you can expect a certain level of quality at cracker barrel. Not today. It seemed like they were overwhelmed in the kitchen but nothing was as good as it normally is and we left some of everything except the eggs uneaten. The French toast has way too much egg on it and were not cooked well. The cheesy potatoes tasted strange and too garlicky. The country ham tasted extremely salty - or rather "only like salt". Shockingly, the waitress couldn't even comprehend a basic order for bacon--she asked how many pieces I wanted, which shouldn't even be a question for a standard order. We had to repeatedly ask for silverware, which wasn't provided until well after our food arrived. The order took nearly 35 minutes to come out, and when it finally did, the waitress didn't even bring syrup with the pancakes. Despite asking for it, we never received it. When I brought these issues to the manager's attention, they seemed completely indifferent and wanted to argue . We parked the bus aside the building, but there is parking in front of the restaurant. While waiting for our food we looked around the store. I always loved cracker barrel and when we would come to the Dells. This time unfortunately things have really deteriorated immensely. My wife's food came out like warm. Dumplings were made of paste. Mashed potatoes were not real and the pot roast gravy was dry gravy mix. The biscuits were crunchy, although when we asked the waitress to get better ones she did. My steak was half raw, and the steak fries weren't sliced potatoes but formed fries. The amount of people there for the dinner rush was probably five tables including us. We ordered beignet we got to go were not good at all. The middle was dough and not good like we've had before. Three them away. On a better note service was good. First time at a Cracker Barrel and I'm actually embarrassed for them. Monday morning at 9:00 and probably 20 people in the whole restaurant. We waited 10 minutes for a server to wander by, then 20 minutes for 4 drinks, and then it was 40 minutes until our food arrived. All of our food was cold and the gravy sat so long it had skin on top of it. Biscuits were dry, bacon was way undercooked, the fruit was hard and unripe, and the everything was bland. There may be Crackers Barrels that excel and make amazing food with a great staff, but this location next to Kalahari is none of those things. Next time we stay here we'll eat a shitty breakfast sandwich at McDonald's because even that crap is better than what we were just served. read more

Dinner for 4 on Sat, 11/30/2024 This place has the potential to be great (flavorful food, 1800s farm ambiance like you're eating at great grandmas, a store with interesting items to buy). However, mismanagement, poor customer service, poor staff training, and overall disorganization is killing this place. 1) Had to flag a waiter to take our order after waiting 15 mins. 2) Our drinks were not delivered until our main course was put on our table. We had to remind our wait person for that. 3) Our cornbread and biscuit did not arrive until another 10 mins after our order was taken. Had to reminder a wait staff for that. 4) We did not know who our weight staff was. There were three different people who stopped by our table to get our order, give our drinks/food, and who checked on us. 5) Lots of tables still dirty/was not cleared fr when we arrived to when we left. 6) One of our waitstaff came to our table and asked how our meal was and she was obviously crying. I was not sure if she was reprimanded by a supervisor but I felt sorry for her. I wanted to give her a hug and tell her that it was going to be ok but of course, that would be weird. 7) Another wait staff stood by the host stand when there was no one there when she could help in the dining room. 8) Overall, the place just had a bad vibe (like you know workers are being treated poorly) and chaos. The place did not feel welcoming or relaxing at all. We wanted to eat dessert there but the poor vibes of the place just made us want to get out. PS: Paying up front feels weird. Let's talk service, the first rule(to me) in a breakfast joint is...keep the coffee cups full. Waited and waited for a refill. Even servers with a pot in hand wouldn't stop by. I ordered chicken fried steak with a side of grits. NOT watery grits! The meat was barely warm, not a crispy crust. It was soggy, no, mushy with an off flavor.
