Whenever we're in the area we have to stop in for dinner, as it's really the best place for a classic supper club experience. Some people complain about the wait times, but the supper club experience is about relaxing, enjoying a cocktail and having a leisurely dinner. We listened to mood music on an outdoor deck while overlooking beautiful Mirror Lake as the sun went down. We then enjoyed a delicious meal in classic northern decor. Great friendly service. My ribeye steak was a perfect medium rare with broiled blue cheese on top. The complimentary rolls and cinnamon rolls were very good along with my sides of broccoli and salad wedge with bacon and blue cheese. My wife loved her duck with orange sauce. The #1 supper club in Wisconsin was a must for us! We had to see the hype. Everyone we talked to ahead of time said, be prepare to wait!! We checked and put our name on the list about 3:30pm and were told that it would be about a 4 hour wait, but there were grounds and 4 different bars to grab drinks and appetizers at. We made our way to the Tomahawk Bar first, where we ordered a round of Old Fashioneds and a couple apps to help hold us over. The drinks were ready quick and the appetizers took about 20 minutes to come out. We managed to find a table just outside of the bar area and listen to the live music. While we waited we tried out the other bars and continued to be in awe of the amount of people who had the same idea as us! About three and a half hours later, our table was finally ready and we were seated. We ordered some French onion soup, perfectly cooked steaks, and a few desserts, making the long wait absolutely worth it! The service was excellent and the food was delicious. As we were walking out, we noticed the crowd had significantly reduced. If you showed up later in the evening, your wait time would probably be closer to thirty minutes. Once they got things moving, tables were turning over pretty quickly. Definitely a "must-do" at least once. I'm not sure I could handle that kind of wait often, but honestly, part of the experience was the wait, chatting, laughing, and bonding with others in the same situation. There is a lot to like about this place, but a few things keep it from a 5 star experience. It was our first time here. We have been talking forever about dinner there, but it's a two hour drive from Milwaukee. So we ended up making it an overnight experience, and we're glad that we did. I don't have to say too much about the location, it's beautiful. The lake and the surrounding woods are very pretty. The leaves were just starting to turn, which made it even better. Came with another couple, got there around 5 p.m., and was told there would be a 2 to 2.5 hour wait. No worries, we were prepared for that (happiness is all about setting the correct expectations). We found a spot at one of the six bars and had a cocktail. Then went down to the lake and listened to the live music performed by a solo guitarist. He was "okay." They give you a little pager that buzzes when your table is ready. Ours went off around 7:00. Got a nice table looking out over the lake. The sun was mostly down, so not as nice as before. Our server got to us right away, set us up with waters and menus, and went through the specials. She was efficient but not overly friendly. We ordered drinks and had some cheese spread and breadsticks to munch on. The dining room was pretty full, and there was a large table of eight people next to us. They were having a great time, and at times were very loud, enough to be a bit distracting. Drinks came pretty quick, and my Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet was traditional and very good. We ordered dinner consisting of the Ribeye, New York Strip, Rack of Lamb, and Prime Rib/Shrimp Combo. While we waited, we got a basket of warm rolls. Those were very tasty. But they don't provide a relish tray (this is a supper club, right?). It did not take very long for the food to come out. It was all the right temps and good sized portions. My lamb was done medium rare, just how I like it. My sweet potato mash was hot, with brown sugar and pecans. Although the lamb was good, it wasn't great. It could have been a bit more tender and flavorful. It was helped by the Port Wine Demi Glace, but excellent lamb can stand on its own. The rest of the table thought their entrees were good, but nobody was raving about them. All of the meats were a bit on the chewy side, and not as flavorful as you might expect from a Supper Club. There was enough left over to take some back with us. We had seen the dessert tray, so we decided to each try something different: Brandy Alexander, Salted Caramel Crunch Cake, Chocolate Mousse, and Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake. My Salted Caramel Crunch Cake was overly salted (but I finished it). The Brandy Alexander was very good, hand mixed with nice chunks. The other two desserts were "okay." I have to mention that the overall service was good but felt a bit rushed. We were out of there in about an hour. Our server was happy to take a few photos of us and did a good job with that. Saw a sign driving to the dells and it said this was Wisconsin #1 supper club so I had to go. This place does not do reservations, just first come first serve, so I was nervous about making dinner plans there. Upon arriving, this place was huge so its kind of just a matter of time to get a table. Theres a long road going here, so at night it was kind of creepy lol. Walked in and they said 30 minutes til we get a table. We went and had a drink from one of the bars that was outside and ordered a appetizer while waiting. All the staff was very helpful and friendly. We got seated and ordered a couple different items on the menu. The wait was never that long for the food and we enjoyed everything we had. It was too much food so we had a lot to go and I feel like the price was pretty good for a supper club. Great experience and would love to go back when I'm in town again! read more

Love, love Ishnala! This is our 3rd visit to Ishnala in the last 4 years. We started coming here when we were in the area for an RV rally. Now, we come to this area only for Ishnala - it's that good. Dinner seating if 4 pm and the doors open between 3:20 and 3:30. Often times, the owner, Bob Prosser is at the door greeting people. He's an amazing people person and he continuously makes the rounds of all the bars and dining areas throughout the evening. We usually make a beeline for the Arrowhead bar and find seats. Then we step up to the bar and order our favorite drink here, their Brandy Old Fashioned - sweet (Sprite). They are SO good and they server around 200,000 of them a season. When we arrived, our name and party size (2) were taken. We were given a pager and told it would be about 45 minutes to an hour to be seated for dinner. Fine with us and we knew this from past visits. Our wait ended up being an hour. This gave us time to have 1-1/2 Old Fashioneds at the bar. Perfect! We took the rest of our second drink to our dinner table and didn't need to order wine or other cocktails with dinner. I also want to mention Leah, one of the bartenders down in Arrowhead. This woman is so pleasant and wow - super efficient. She's great. I got a picture with here this year too. All over Ishnala, outside, inside and on every level of the facility, it's so warm and inviting. The interior decor is naturally rustic for a pleasing ambiance. Once upstairs, seated at one of the dining tables, our server, Jovana greeted us warmly. She had butter, cheese and crackers, plus waters delivered to the table. Nice. Later, Jovana told us about the nightly special. We already knew what we wanted for dinner so we placed our order. The two of us shared: - Shrimp Ishnala appetizer (amazing) - Prime Rib (medium rare) with 4 Broiled Prawns - Dinner Salad with House Dressing (part of the dinner) - Basket of Dinner Rolls and Tiny Cinnamon Swirl Rolls (part of the dinner) The Shrimp Ishnala appetizer was amazing. We order it each time we visit Ishnala. I can't wait to try to reproduce this at home. Bob Prosser stopped by our table to check on us. This guy is a class act. He genuinely wants to know how your dinner service is going and I'm sure he'd make it right if there was a need. This is such a nice touch and one of the things, among many that make Ishnala so special and worth coming back to and telling others about. I am allergic to beef and everything is cooked in beef tallow BUT you can ask them to cook in a different oil. For food we got an app of the spinach and artichoke dip. Then had the dinner salads and bread (the cinnamon roll was divine!) and cheese and crackers. The cheese spread was sooooo good. I can't place what it was but it had such an umami flavor. Upon arrival this place is pretty unbelievable. The drive is very pretty and the scenery surrounding the restaurant is spectacular. It's a busy place so be prepared to wait almost 2 hours for a table. You are able to sit and enjoy any of the 4 bars available in and around the restaurant while you wait for a table. So this review is mostly just for the inside bar because we didn't eat dinner. We sat at the U shaped bar which is located towards the back of the restaurant. Windows surround the bar on 3 sides. You have views of the water below, the hillside, the woodlands and the bars located below the restaurant and closer to the beach area. We were lucky and arrived near sunset so the lighting was very pretty. We ordered our drinks. I asked for something that wasn't on the menu, a Negroni and the lady bartender quickly responded that they don't make those so I ordered one from their cocktail menu. The reason for my lower star review is because this bartender was inattentive, and rude. She was very stern and unfriendly and didn't want to answer questions we had about the restaurant. I was pretty turned off by her, which is why we decided to have one cocktail, an order of bread, and the esgarcot. The cocktail was good but the escargot was REALLY GOOD! I recommend getting this if you try this place out! So we never made it for the long wait for a dinner table. Perhaps we will try again one day. Having moved to Wisconsin about six years ago, we are familiar with the supper clubs that don't take reservations and seet you in order of your arrival. We arrived quite early with some friends and toured the grounds, then stood in line until the doors opened. When we reached the front of the line, we requested a window seat For our party of four, and then proceeded to the bar straight ahead. We all sampled the Wisconsin old-fashioned with Brandy and were commenting about the number served year to date, especially considering they were only open for a few weeks already this season. When the kitchen opened, our pager went off and the four of were seated at a beautiful window seat. The ambience here cannot be beat. Our view over mirror Lake was nothing short of spectacular. Our group ordered one tenderloin two chicken Oscars and one shrimp entrée. There was also a French soup ordered, and more beverages. Our bills came with a salad, a side, and a bread basket. We thought for the view the ambience, our efficient service and are very good meals that even though it's a bit more than other Wisconsin supper clubs or meals were fabulous. We all agreed we would love to return again. It's a bit of a drive from Madison especially the drive home. But it's worth it. we also had the opportunity to speak with the manager, or was it the owner, and we were talking about the number of old-fashioned served here to date and the most popular menu items. Be prepared for lines and parking can be challenging. I'd recommend the overflow lot...or better yet, hike Mirror lake and head over for a drink after. The Wisconsin brandy old fashioned was pretty good although I love my fruit muddled. It would be impossible to offer this given the how busy they are. NO RESERVATIONS. Came here at 530, was told the wait was going to be 3.5 hours and that we couldn't leave the property with the pager or it would deactivate. Well you know what I did?? I threw that pager in the bush and left!! Came back 2 hours later and yep still had to wait out the 90 minutes. Checked out their 3 bars and the beach, ordered some drinks and apps, we wanted to save our stomach for the food so we only order 1 app. Food was ok.. not really worth waiting almost 4 hours for. Don't get me wrong, the place is nice because it's right on the lake, but cmonnnn you have 3 bars and tons of space, could have at least turned some of those places into dining area. But instead you're banking on people ordering booze and apps cause that's probably your money maker. We arrived around 3:50 to put a reservation in for 3 people for a table with a lake view. The first availability was at 5:15 p.m. so we headed down to the outside bar. It was an extremely hot Monday night but the fans and slightly breeze helped. There was also live music performance by a couple from Nashville. We ordered artichoke dip and shrimp Ishnala. The shrimp was fantastic. The dip was good, too. We were seated right around 5:15 at a window overlooking the water. Unfortunately it has started to storm so it was dark and rainy. We were served some homemade butter spread and a basket of bread that had some tasty cinnamon rolls. My sisters had the salmon and I ordered the butterflies prawns with prime rib. All our meals were cooked well and good quality. I would note the prawns were smaller than I have had elsewhere and the prime rib I had was fatty. I am used to some fat but my piece had quite a bit more than usual. Both of my sisters enjoyed the salmon. The portions were large and the side of steamed veggies were fresh. Was passing through on a road trip and stopped for the night in town. I had high expectations due to the feedback and marketing of this Sipper Club. It met my expectations and I can see why it is in the top grouping for Supper Clubs. Great ambiance with several indoor/outdoor bars in a serene environment. I even saw a deer. Sitting at the main bar I enjoyed my bourbon old-fashioneds before taking a table for dinner. I like that you can have appetizers at the bar, but not a full dinner. You must take a table for that I'm not a fan of shooting at a bar while somebody is eating a full course meal next to me and believe he should be in a table for that, allowing people to reside at the bar and enjoy their cocktails. For dinner I have the 10 ounce filet mignon with a small wedge salad, a side of asparagus, and au gratin potatoes. My fillet was very tender and seasoned perfectly. The asparagus were a nice size and cooked correctly. I really enjoyed the wedge salad. Maybe the best I've had even they'll gratin potatoes were done correctly with great flavor. Service was excellent Overall, everything came out to be a nine out of 10 or 10 out of 10 and pricing was in line with other supper clubs I've experienced. If you're looking for an area that needs improvement it would be that they don't take reservations and you hear horror stories of 3 to 4 hour waits to have a table, and in my eyes there is not a restaurant experience I would be willing to do that for. Wedge salad was outstanding. If you like bleu cheese you may find yourself licking the plate. The place is right on Mirror Lake. It does reflect like a mirror of the woods on the water. Turned off by the summer wait times of 3+ hours, my wife and I decided to try a mid-week after Labor Day visit. It was perfect! About a 45 minute wait, which gave us enough time to enjoy a couple of AWESOME Old Fashion's and check out the building and grounds. Once our buzzer went off we were seated at a table facing Mirror Lake. Ordered some more drinks and our meal. Everyone in the place from bartender to waitresses are super friendly and the dining area, though very busy, seemed like you are eating in a cabin in the north woods. First we shared a crock of French Onion Soup which we loved. Great flavor and the baked cheese was excellent! For our main courses my wife had what I think was called the seafood sampler. It had everything! Lobster tail, salmon, scallops and shrimp. All decent sized portions, and she loved them all! I had a bite of each, and I'd have to say the scallops and lobster were spectacular. I ordered the Prime Rib and Prawns, which was also pretty amazing. I loved the prawns, they split open and baked to perfection. Prime Rib was good, but maybe not the very best I've had, but still up there! Overall this was not just a great meal, it was an experience! We went to Ishnala to celebrate a friends wedding. It was our first time there. Absolute breathtaking lake views. The dining area has a rustic log cabin manor feel that fits right into Mirror Lake surroundings. It's a long wait to get in because it is quite unique. Bob Prosser the owner was there from open to greet guests and welcome visitors. We enjoyed a Brandy Old Fashioned and appetizers (Shrimp Ishnala and steak wrapped asparagus) while we chatted amongst friends. Well we finally got to Ishnala after years of talking about going here for dinner. Knowing about the legendary big crowds and long waits we decided to go in May before Memorial Day and on a weeknight. Also we got there by 2:45pm given the doors open at 3:15pm. A line had already formed at that hour. Once the doors open we got our buzzer and requested a window table. We hustled over to the main bar with a great view of the lake. If it had been warmer out we would have opted for one of the many outdoor bars. We ordered some old fashions ($9.50 each) - they were good but not sure I'd rate them best in the state. Some trivia: last year they see served close to 119,000 old fashions in a six month season! At 4pm they began seating tables and we got a great window table for our group of four (I know it was practically still lunchtime!). I started with the French onion soup - very good! For my main I got the butterflied prawns with drawn butter. The six prawns were so big I thought I was eating lobster. $40 for this entree with salad and potato. Excellent! They also served warm rolls with cheese spread. Others got the chicken Oscar with asparagus and crab and crab meat. Thumbs up! Also $40. The last of our group got a small filet mignon and liked it alot. The service was good but you could tell they were trying to turn the tables quickly but we slowed the pace to enjoy the great food and scenery. Holy cow, who knew this supper-club compound was here!? Apparently everyone but me, because this place was outrageously busy. Like nothing I've ever seen before. We were in town visiting for a camping trip at Mirror Lake and decided to walk from our site to check this place out for a drink. I was blown away - the grounds are huge and it was packed with people. People that were very eager to eat at Ishnala because from the sounds of it, there was a 4+ hour wait for a table! Fear not though, they have plenty to enjoy (and drink) while you wait. The restaurant sits atop of a hill overlooking the lake, providing wonderful views. You can make your way down to the side bar near the sand, where you'll find a surplus of tables, plenty of staff running around with drinks & apps, and even a little stage with live music. On the upper part of the hill, there's tons more outdoor seating amongst the beautiful grounds. Also a mini gift shop that's pretty cute. Overall, fabulous vibes here. We didn't plan to come for dinner (which we were happy about after we found out about these wait times), so we were perfectly pleased with just grabbing a cocktail and checking the place out. And the answer is YES, you should indeed try their infamous old fashioned! Of course we were nosey and still peeked inside the supperclub. How cool! I get why people love the atmosphere here. We went on a Sunday around 4:30 pm hoping to avoid a long wait and we did! The wait for 2 was 45 min to an hour. Not bad at all! We also did not have to take the shuttle and were able to find parking. We started with some old fashions at the beach. The view was relaxing and peaceful. The servers were really fast and the live music was nice as well. We ordered an appetizer of cheese curds and of course those were fried deliciousness. Highly recommend! We were seated around 50 minutes into the wait and they do move fast but it's so they can get everyone in and out. I had the butterflied shrimp and my date had the prime rib. It was huge! They were very good. Worth it. Had the prime spears and Ishnala shrimp. Again both well done. I could have used a couple more spears, it was served with 4. Then came the wait. If you want to walk, great, but it's still 2 hours. Got seated, great table but later, so we missed the sunset. Ok, here's where they make up time. It's pretty quick service. My wife had the duck and I had the prime/prawns. Again, no issues. Everything came fast. The wait time will make me hesitant, we live in northern Wisconsin and have a great many supper clubs that take a reservation. Basically this restaurant is an excuse to go drink with your buddies for 4 hours on a lake shore. Rack of lamb was good. The French onion soup was unexpectedly awesome. Advice: order a double of their house brandy neat and sip it slow. It's a great quality spirit. EDIT: so I just ate our leftovers, primarily the duck, it's stuffing, sauces, cheesy potatoes, and some ribeye. Was really good. Kind of felt like a thanksgiving spread. To be honest, I thought that the food would taste best the first day after many old fashioned, but it was easier to appreciate the subtle spices the second day while sober. Second piece of advice: the long wait is worth it if you land a seat at a bar or a stable table. There a bunch of sketch tables and tree stumps to sit on for spill over - not worth it if you have a long wait. Best to just eat some apps have a drink and leave for something else. Note: the lake has biting bugs. They aren't as bad as mosquito bites but wear but spray or wear long sleeves and jeans if you anticipate waiting outside. We were in the Dells over the weekend and planned ahead to make a stop at Ishnala to have dinner on Saturday night. We have been here once before for drinks and apps outside, but this time we knew we absolutely had to make it inside for dinner and since we had just received a gift card for our anniversary, this was top of the to-do list. First off, as everyone else mentions, the wait is insane. So if you're planning on coming here for dinner, prepare to clear your whole afternoon so you can plan to eat dinner at a decent time. The outside bar opens at 2:30, the restaurant at 3. We arrived at 3:15 and needed to utilize the overflow parking and get shuttled in. Our wait time we were told would be about 2- 2 1/2 hours. We knew it would be about this long so we made sure to bring a cribbage board and few decks of playing cards to help keep us occupied. We were able to snag a table up top, in the shade, and promptly a waitress came and took our drink and appetizer orders. The old fashioneds were awesome, and the shrimp for the shrimp cocktail were delicious. Once inside and at our table most of us ended up ordering the Ishnala Red, had we of known 3 of the 4 of us were going to order that we'd have gotten a bottle! The red was very good, it has Syrah in it so it pairs nicely with the filet. Our table ordered the cheese curds and escargot for our inside appetizers. Both were amazing. I wished I had looked at other yelp reviews prior to coming (rookie mistake!) because then I'd have found out about the yummy mustard cheese spread that was coming and the yummy warm bread basket that had little mini cinnamon rolls in it! For my main entree I tried the special of the night, the Vineyard Filet. A beautiful 7 oz filet with a red sauce, topped with sundried tomatoes & goat cheese. This was amazing, the filet was absolutely incredible. I'd have been perfectly content with just the filet and the sauce without the extra toppings. For my sides I also had the wedge salad and au gratin potatoes. Both are amazing. Something to note though, the wedge salad is an extra $5, wasn't quite expecting that but no complaints as it was delicious. My husband ordered the same thing as me, I guess I know how to order well :) Would we come back? Maybe. For drinks and apps outside, absolutely. For dinner? It was hands down one of the most delicious dinners I've had all year, but that long wait outside really makes it hard for me to make it worth it. Especially since you can't leave the premises and you can't get on the wait list if your whole party isn't there. Came in on a Wednesday night and no matter what day it is, expect this place to be busy. Bar opens at 3:30 PM and Dinner service begins at 4 PM. We arrived promptly at 4 PM and was greeted by a chauffeur in a golf cart asking if we need a ride to the front of the restaurant. We kindly denied. At the restaurant we put our name in and were told it's a 30 minute wait. Everyone is super friendly and showed us to four different bars where we could grab drinks and appetizers. We chose the outdoor bar for the live music and grabbed an old fashioned (must) and a pink moccasin (okay) along with some cheese curds. After 30 minutes our buzzer went off and it was time to be seated inside. You can tell all the staff are well taken care of, they are genuine in their joy of the restaurant and very kind. We had a great server, pretty view, and great food. At the end you can go to their gift shop to buy some of their bottled beverages, shirts, and koozies. read more

Beautiful property, the drive up was pretty cool. The bar with live music outside was wonderful. The food was amazing and everything was seasoned to perfection. I don't think the prices were unreasonable for a place like this. The outdoor bartenders and our waitress were very kind and helpful. The only thing off putting was the greeters taking down names. There was a guy and girl and the guy was very short with the people in front of us- wasn't a great first impression walking in but everything else made up for it after!! read more

The setting of Ishnala is incredible! It's surrounded by trees and on the water . The service and all waitstaff were top notch. We arrived at 3:30 and there was already a line forming at the door . There is plenty of parking but get there early if you can . However there are plenty of bar areas to wait for your table . The old fashion was delicious! Ishnala is a well oiled machine. The food was good but the excellent service , ambiance and cocktails were what made the place in my opinion. I am looking forward to returning and may sit at the bar and enjoy appetizers, cocktails and the view for my next visit ! read more

As soon as we parked and exited our car we were greeted by a shofar with a golf cart who offered us a ride to the restaurant and we gladly accepted. He drove us to the front door where we talked to the hostess and added our name to the dinner list. While we arrived at 3:30 the wait was about 2 hours before we would be seated for dinner. If you want a fast dinner this is not the place!!! We were given a buzzer to notify us when our table was ready and we made our way down to the tiki bar where we all ordered brandy sweet old fashions an appetizer for asparagus wrapped with prime rib. The old fashions were the best we have ever had, sweet and smooth. The asparagus was tender and the prime rib was mouth watering definitely one of the best appetizers we've ever had. There was live music and after two hours which felt more like 30 minutes we got sat for dinner service. The bread and cinnamon rolls for the table were butter and mouth watering. The salads were serviceable. I had the duck and potatoes gritis. The duck was fall off the bone tender and the potatoes were smooth, crunchy and buttery. My uncle ordered the prime rib which was tender but the real star of the show was the plat of mushrooms which were plentiful and flavorful. We finished with a round of deserts including a decadent smooth Carmel cake, a rich wonder chocolate pie, and a blast from the past smooth spiked mint shake.
