This is a review of the ENCINITAS famous footwear. The Poway location was semi-helpful: I purchased some Nike Court vision Altas online and they were too big. I went to the POWAY location and returned my shoes. They had my correct Size in the store but I declined to buy theM because they had VERY OBVIOUSLY been worn. The employee offered to clean them for me which I thought was a little weird. I don't know about you, but I'm not paying $85 for used shoes. So I went ahead and purchased another pair online and they arrived in three days. (See images) What are the chances They tried to sell me another obviously used pair? Filth! When I took them to the POWAY location they were very nice and refunded my money. The employee explained that their policy is to just clean the dirty, used shoe and resell it for the new price-- and that my particular pair of shoes came from STORE 697. The ENCINITAS location. It was explained to me that the employee at that store , (employee number 295956) who prepared the order didn't clean the shoe before they resold it to me for the new price. I've been a rewards member for years And have been shopping at famous footwear my whole life. That ends today. Order from an honest seller. Reselling dirty shoes for new prices is not only unhygienic but it's unethical and bad business practice. I'm Disgusted that I've purchased ALL of my kids shoes through this company. This place is huge. Not famous. The parking lot seemed pretty empty when I visited. Which was a surprise but it did look like it was about to rain, which may have put a damper on sales for the day. Every time I visit a shoe store I think of the disgruntled Al Bundy from the old TV Show - Married with Children. There was a good selection of women's shoes but not men's. Comparable to what you'd find at Footlocker, there are tons of athletic shoes as well as dress shoes but definitely older seasons. I believe most of the inventory in store is comprised of older styles that haven't sold in department stores, outlets as well as online... so this is where they go to sit and hopefully be purchased before being finally written off and donated. I didn't happen to find anything in my liking but I liked how the store was organized and all sizes were available in the correct section. read more

My favorite place to buy shoes. You're not going to find Manolos or the latest kicks here, but they have a terrific collection of stylish, comfortable heels and flats (and they have shoes for men, women and kids), for reasonable prices. Lots of Skechers, Saucony, BOC, Circus by the Edelmans, Naturalizer, etc. What I love here is that you serve yourself and so you can try on as many sizes and styles as you want to find your perfect shoes, without having to wait for a salesperson. But they're happy to give you advice if you ask. The app is one of my very favorite apps - terrific deals and it keeps track of what I've bought before and in what sizes. 20% off today of everything was a great surprise to find when I opened the app! They also have one of the best return policies. If I wear something and it's not comfortable no problem returning it, which is way better than stores that want only unworn shoes. This location, which is actually located in Encinitas NOT Carlsbad, is my favorite FF location in San Diego County. Its selection is similar to other FF stores, however they seem to have more sizes versus the smaller Poway and Point Loma (Midway Drive) FF locations. It's a bit hard to find, so go to the end of the shopping center where Target and Office Depot are. The shoes are normally marked down significantly off the regular price (such as $40 versus $60). PLUS, you can score more savings by signing up for their rewards program, which yields you occasional 15%-off (or more) coupons plus incentive points. Your best bet is to swoop in when FF does it's frequent Buy One Get One Half Off sale. Their Web site is also very user friendly, letting you check FF stores in your neighborhood for your sizes and styles to save you that trip! Also, if you can't find what you want in the store, FF will have it shipped to your home for free! If you buy off the site, there is usually free shipping with three pairs purchased, and if you can return online orders to the store. read more

WHY WEREN'T YOU OPEN AT 8AM LIKE YOU ADVERTISED?!?! This was my first stop for Black Friday shopping to find that they were not open!! There's really not much to write about this store. I liked it that it's in the outdoor outlet mall because it's a convenient place to go if you're going from OC to SD for the day. The feel of this store is a payless shoe store with name brand kicks. I went on January 7, 2012, and they had tons of sales. I had to buy some new sneakers. I wasn't sure if they have sales every single day or if it was only because of the new year. Why three stars? Staff was nice, place was cozy, but everything was standard. read more

With much trepidation, I went in today to return a pair of sandals that had fallen apart and Jean the manager remembered waiting on me when I bought them so no problem returning them. Phew what a relief to have somebody who actually cared about me as a person and a customer. Even better were the very cute sandals I found that were discounted even more than the displayed price. I used to avoid this store due to the past management and sales associates, now I look forward to going back to get some great customer service. read more

Gather round children and I shall enthrall you with a tale of curiosity, hope, despair, evil, and triumph. Our quest begins not unlike many others, in a far away land inhabited by a strange, fantastical creature with which our protagonist is unfamiliar - a salesperson who neither cares for the sale, or people. The backstory is thus: we had ordered shoes online and gotten the wrong size. We were in the area and decided to pop in there to exchange. The keeper of shoes and defeater of optimism suffered through a grueling 20 seconds of scouring the barren wastelands of the interweb in a vain search for the right size. To be fair, any more time spent 'assisting" our quest would leave little room to divert and disrupt the 1 other customer in the store. After having been unsuccessful at locating an adequate replacement, we left feeling used and cheap. Thank Odin we have smartphones to combat the apathy of disgruntled workers the likes of this one. Before leaving the parking lot, we found a similar pair online, in the right size. We swung back around, went back into the store, and displayed the image and item# in full high def to the Balrog. Admitting defeat, the sworn protector and harbinger of listlessness and unconcern scraped her fingers across the keyboard and begrudgingly placed the order. It was done. With the exertion of the battle strewn clearly across her face, shoulders slumped in an effort to quell any emotion that may spring forth, she uttered her goodbyes in the hopes that we may be the final customer she would have to face that, or any, day. Epilogue It's a Famous Footwear people. Same selection, layout, etc. The only thing that would make this place stand out from any other shoe store would be the service. read more

I had pretty good luck in the store with nice salespeople, but had a 6-week nightmare experience when the store tried to order shoes for me with their online store because they didn't have the size I needed. At first, it took online customer service staff three weeks for them to see if FedEx picked up the order because they "couldn't get into their system." Then they reordered the item, but when I called back three weeks later I was told they no longer had the item and had refunded the item. Never got an email explaining that. They also said FedEx tried to deliver the item, but wren't able to. Basically, they gave every excuse but their dog ate the shoes. And I never got the shoes. My advice is NOT to order anything online with them and to try another shoe store first! Worst customer service experience ever for me. read more

Went in to take a look at some Adidas shoes with my girlfriend and was told that they have them in store but they do not want to open up the box that they have them in. The woman talking to us was very rude and provided terrible customer service. It is unacceptable to have the shoes in the store but but will not go open the box because of laziness. Will never be going here again. I do not recommend this store. read more

I went to go with my friend who happens to be african american. they treated us really badly and i was trying on shoes because i did not know if they run bigger, the lady kept coming over and acting rude. then my friend and i were looking at high heels and all of a sudden got accused of stealing?! got banned and they made a whole scene, and threatened to call the cops. terrible store, racist and unprofessional staff. read more

An important thing before shopping here is to note that the previous poor management has been switched for so much better. In the past the experience of shopping here was rather poor, the staff was unhelpful and impatient, however having been recently the trip was amazing. The new manager spent her time helping us access our saved up points and making sure we were getting the best deal possible thanks to her patience and added input we were able to save quite a lot of money. She went out of her way to let us know how to save money telling us about points ad other things which we could have gone our whole life being unaware of. For those of you who have shopped here before and didn't like it, try again as the store and its staff have improved by a landslide. read more

I stopped into Famous Footwear today, August 6 2015 and got the most amazing service! Jamie helped my mother and I figure out our BOGO when we had three pairs. First she noticed that one of the pairs rang up for full price instead of the clearance price it was listed for...then she made sure that let us know which was a better deal...our $10 off coupon or our 15% off. Then she over heard us talking when we went to buy the next pair at full price and she said...well, if your mom just bought a pair of shoes last week, we can bring up her receipt and do a BOGO for your third pair. What!?! I didn't even know you could do that...and she let us know. It was amazing that she took all the time to help us. Great service!! read more

Recently bought a pair of tennis shoes and one of the soles separated after two months of little wear... obviously a defective shoe... Store manager said that it was a problem with LA Gear and not Famous Footwear... after 30 days there can be no returns for any reason. Check out the shoe prices before, then after the BO GO (buy one get one half off) sale. They raise the prices the night before and reduce them back to their regular prices the night the sale ends!! It a shame they are not passing on the real savings they falsely advertise. I will never shop at any of their stores again. read more

I've never written a Yelp review before but felt compelled to do so after the excellent customer service we received last night. I came in to see if I could return the Converse shoes I had bought for my son in May, because the soles were separating from the shoe after just 6 weeks. I had seen that Famous Footwear had a 30-day return policy and we were past that but I thought I'd give it a shot. Jean, the new store manager, greeted us when we came is, and after I explained the issue, she said it would be no problem to return the shoes. She showed us some other styles and helped us find some new ones that my son loves, and she was very friendly, personable, and customer-focused throughout our visit. I appreciated the no-hassle return (even though it was past the 30 days) and the excellent customer service we received from Jean. read more

What a relief after Roadrunner and others. I like to try on the shoes myself, not wait for a salesperson, so it was a nice change. People were friendly, and they had a good selection of running shoes, especially in the wide sizes that I need. I agree with the other reviewers, that the customer service is pretty bad at the Encinitas location. Last time i went in there was a salesman who was particularly rude. There was almost no one in the store and he acted too busy to answer my questions.I also don't go there very often because they frequently do not carry my size, which is probably one of the most common for women (7-7.5). read more
