Famous hot wiener diner new menu

A 100-year-old American diner that serves all the classics with friendly service! Yummy comfort food

Their everything hot dog (chili, onions and mustard) is something you'll either love....or not. Fries are always hot and crispy. Shakes are tasty, the other food ranges from "ehh" to "good". Serves beer. Service has varied over the 20 plus years my wife and I have eaten there. Inexpensive, basic fare. More of a 3.5-4 personally but it's a place you'll either love....or not hehe...

This was our first time at this restaurant, after driving past it a few times. There was an open parking spot nearby so we gave it a shot. Anything that's been around a hundred years is likely to be good, right? Eh... ironically it was the hot dogs and chili sauce that neither my wife nor I really enjoyed... the thing they're supposed to be famous for. What we did enjoy were the fries and the chocolate shake. If we were in the mood for just those and were passing through again, we'd probably come back for them. The prices were pretty reasonable, and our waitress did keep checking up on us and keeping our drinks filled, so that's a plus in itself when service often seems lacking anymore in this post-Covid world. One other weird thing about this place is the bathroom, for paying customers only, which looks like it probably hasn't changed a whole lot in a century. I wouldn't have used it if I didn't absolutely need to, and I'm probably going to have nightmares about it, now.

In between the lunch and dinner hours.

Well worth the stop. Got the Famous Weiner and absolutely loved it. Chili was also very good. Love places that have such a tradition and proud history. Neat old photos, etc. hanging on the walls.

    Look yummy! ...Taste good!

Love the fries!! Shakes great too. Service can be grumpy, but she tries. We take the grandkids and they usually leave an empty plate

I love the chili dogs with onions. The restaurant is old and outdated but that makes it feel old school.

If you love large portions and hot yummy food I highly recommend it if you have time. The only issue I have here is this place NEEDS a proper staff. I really do like the folks they run the joint. But the service is inconsistent at best from visit to visit and even on a slow day with an empty dining space it can take a while to get served. Knowing that we went in today not expecting much more than large tasty portions. We took the whole family as a good bye brunch as my oldest his partner who we're visiting with my grandson. Im not sure what happened today but the single little old lady who runs the front was all over the place. She was polite and professional but you could tell she was overwhelmed. It took quite a while to get menus and waters then quite a while longer than that to get to order. She took the order and then we waited. And waited and waited. As we waited the littles started to devolve. And then, we waited some more. From the moment we sat down to the time food arrived was about an hour and a half. By then the kids were done. My wife was done and I was done. The food was hot. Some under cooked and my meal was missing the main component. That mouth watering and coma inducing pastrami. All said and done it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. No one was happy when we left. And that's a huge bummer. The food here is too good for the experience to be so bad. There were apologies and eventually the owner came out and compensated the entire meal. But that's not a good business model. Will I go back? Absolutely. They could cuss me out and I'd go buy the pastrami even if it fell on the floor. It's that good. But I probably won't ever go back with the kids. They don't have the stamina for it and we really have enough time to truly enjoy it as we would like to.

I can't remember which? I'm happy to report that the food and the service with new owners at the new diner is excellent. My wife and I both had the fried fantail shrimp entrée which comes with a salad and two sides. The shrimp were quite juicy and tasty and had a nice crunch so they must've been coated with among other things some panko breadcrumbs. The portion was generous as you will see in the photo. Both salads were good, but the greens were just a little tired. French fries were also quite nice and covered with kind of a tasty and crispy coating of some kind. Service was good and we never had to wait very long for anything. The diner has two display cases full of delicious, looking desserts... But we were too full to eat anymore. The bill for the two entrées + 2 soft drinks was $39 + an $8 tip. Good, solid diner food and I would return in the future with no reservations.

TLDR: Time capsule family restaurant whipping up delicious home style meals for a reasonable price…read more Come for the broasted chicken! Vibe: 5/5. Located on the outskirts of Hanover, Clair's has been a cornerstone family restaurant for the area since the 70s. Back in the 90s, I have fond memories of going to Clair's with my family for Friday night dinners. The restaurant itself has mostly left unchanged from what I can remember, but in a good way. The bright yellow sign out front, the ice cream cold display case at the entrance, to the charming booths with the removable partitions between each just play into childhood memories of simpler times. With how old the overall restaurant is, everything is well maintained and very clean. A testament to the hard working staff and devout ownership. Service: 5/5. We went on a Saturday night around 6pm for dinner and had a wonderful service. My party of 4 arrived to a fully packed restaurant, however we were fortunate to get a booth table after a brief 5 minute wait. The restaurant does not take reservations, but you can have Google call the restaurant to check on the wait time, a nice convenience. Our waitress was outstanding from start to finish. She was very friendly and did an excellent job keeping our drinks filled. Food came out punctually and piping hot. Overall, Clair 's staff has their service down pact and truly makes you feel at home. Food: 5/5. Exactly how I remembered. The core menu has remained mostly unchanged from what I remembered coming as a kid. From your classic turkey and gravy to Salisbury steak, all your classic family restaurant favorites are here. On top of that, they have daily specials that have a more modern/seasonal twist on the classics. At the time of my visit, they were serving Yuengling beer battered haddock which I decided to order. The fish was perfectly fried and had hardy portions. Speaking of portion size, each dinner included your choice of 2 side items from a dozen or so items. Highly recommend the breaded zucchini as well as the fried corn fritters, both of which were childhood favorites of mine that lived up to my nostalgia hype. Dinner prices range between $10-15 per platter, which is very reasonable for the amount of food you receive. Don't forget to save room for dessert, as Clair's dishes up lovely hand spun milkshakes and sundaes using Hershey's ice cream. Overall, Clair's offers up the perfect casual dinner for those that just want to kick back and remember simpler times

Fried chicken, after waiting 30 min. They served nasty, dry chicken. My Salisbury steak was a pitiful, flat child's burger cover with what looked like Hot Fudge Sunday Sauce, it was gravy as black as Pelosi's heart, bitter and thick as paste. Onion Rings burned to a crisp beyond recognition, and a small scoop of nasty mashed potatoes with that same black gravy. No check on drink refills and a preoccupied waitress who certainly was not overworked. Avoid this place like the plague. In a word "Nasty".

Now, years later, my wife and I would pass by the new 81 diner and would always say we needed to try it. We'll, today was the day. We stopped in for lunch, and aside from a gentleman waiting for his to-go order, we were known as the customers. I guess not a lot of people eat at 3 in the afternoon. The atmosphere was very nice. The tables, chairs and booths all fit the diner nicely. My cheesesteak sub was very tasty. Their menu said no substitutions, but they let me withhold the lettuce, tomatoes and onions, which I'm not fond of, so I'm glad they let me do that. Along that note, my wife ordered the BLT sandwich, and gave me some of the bacon, which was really good! Our friend George ordered the pizza burger, which also looked good, and he seemed to enjoy it. Their fresh cut fries were fantastic as well. If I had anything to complain about, it would be that the music being piped in was too modern for a classic diner atmosphere and wasn't something we were expecting. Hopefully that's something they will eventually change. Maybe next time we will stay long enough to try some of their desserts, which looked pretty good too. We will definitely be back soon.
