We were visiting Hanover and a local recommended this restaurant. It is a nice casual place with a variety of American dishes like chicken pot pie, broasted chicken and broiled or fried seafood. When we walked in we discovered they're were two dinning rooms, the one in the front was a 1970ish country diner like ambience while I back was a much larger rrom with a more folksy contemporary ambience. The service was prompt and friendly. Thecoz was very good. I got the liver which was smothered in a rich flavorful beef gravy with lots of chopped onion and bacon. The mashed potatoes were made fresh , not instant, and delicious. My wife got the roasted chicken which she said was really juicy and delicious. We both got broccoli salad with was finely chopper broccoli florets with a nice tangy mayo based dressing...really tasty. The prices are very reasonable. Lots of parking. Absolutely packed on a Saturday morning when I came for brunch with friends, but they had no issues accommodating us without even a reservation! The food was hit or miss. On the good side, portions were large and prices were low. The biscuits with the chopped steak gravy were really good. My omelet, on the other hand, lacked flavor and left a lot to be desired. Very very busy but once you have their breakfast, you'll understand why they are so busy on Sundays. Haven't had a bad experience at all. Been here several times. Usually always for Sunday breakfast! I've been here a handful of times over the years and usually satisfied with my meal and service but not our visit yesterday for lunch. My daughter and I were sat in the back room, while walking to our seats we walked by the bathrooms which had a horrible urine smell coming out and into the seating area. The drink/bus boy couldn't be payed a million dollars to put a smile on his face, he looked so miserable. My daughter got chocolate chip pancakes with a side of bacon. I got the Maryland crab soup with the Alaskan pollack wild wing fish & chips. The pancakes and bacon were a hit with my daughter. My soup was very delicious and so was the fish and chips. We were basically done our tiny drinks before our meals came. We were never offered refills once. We ate our meals with no drinks and we never saw our waitress again after our food was brought out. Not until about 15 minutes after we were done eating. She then asked if we wanted refills while getting our check. My daughter said to her a little late don't ya think. The food is great but the service was terrible this time and not sure we will be in a hurry to return. read more

I do like the diner food - so of course it was a matter of time until I found this place. Stopped in about an hour before closing & there was still quite a crowd in the front dining area of the restaurant (learned later that there is another big section around the side of the restaurant a well). We were greeted quickly and had drinks in a snap. After making our decisions (I had the Hot Fresh Roasted Turkey Sandwich®), it wasn't long before we were united with our entrees - good home-style food! Some of the items will be hit or miss... but the price makes the gamble well worth it, not to mention the friendly staff. Hits: Broccoli Salad. It probably should mention it has bacon on it. I loved it, my (mostly) vegetarian wife sort of passed on it. Kids meals were well portioned. The hot dog I can't comment on, since my daughter ate the whole thing before I could steal a bite, and it was not small. The turkey and stuffing was quite tasty too. My wife loved the coconut shrimp. My mashed potatoes were fantastic. Miss: beef delmanico was what I should have expected for the price. It wasn't bad, just not great. Considering the massive menu, it's a skip. Desserts: I got a pumpkin bread pudding. It was possibly the best bread pudding I've ever had. My daughter got the chocolate mouse pie. It was as advertised. Very good. My son got the chocolate ice cream. It wasn't bad, not great. The whole bill was barely 60 bucks! The place is pretty basic diner feeling, but also rather large. The location (next to some factory) could be nicer, but you're probably driving here so that doesn't really matter.... that being said, can someone explain the house built right next to the factory to me? This converted church has a nice appeal to classic Americana. Their Jodi special chicken was delicious and the meat was succulent. The fries also done right. Corn fritters were average. We did take home the Peach dumpling and Peach custard pie which was a treat. If you're in Hanover I do recommend this place. Bathroom was standard. read more

Four stars are a generous rating, it's more for potential, allow me to explain. We arrived. a party of 2, right at the changeover from breakfast to lunch. This place has two seating areas, the old front with charming atmosphere reminiscent of an old style diner and a larger more antiseptic low character in the back. Unfortunately, they steered us to the back. Not only that, the room was fairly empty but the numbskull seating people bunched us all in one part of the room. So we had 2 grandparents and an extremely rambunctious 4 year old boy that did not sit still for one moment (and we could feel each and every bump) and he had a video player playing Disney type movies. The adults kept turning down the volume and the boy naturally turned up the volume throughout. On the other side of us was 6 hungry hunters, in full hunting attire. They were polite to the waitress, yet they were barely out of adolescence young men. I thought to myself that these guys carry guns? Across the aisle from us was a family of 10 or so adults. At this big booth that sat 6 were us two. So that atmosphere wasn't great for us today, but this place is established and has good potential. Our lunch finally came out, it was a fairly long wait that we attributed to the fact we came at that in between time. Others that arrived later than us seemed to get served faster as things rolled along. The wait staff was pleasant and efficient. The food was good. We are looking forward to coming in for breakfast and we will NEVER set foot in that back room again! read more

The restaurant was packed & has a lot to choose from! I got the chicken & waffle which the gravy & waffle were amazing but it was not the traditional chicken & waffle. There was no fried chicken which would have put this dish over the top if it had a fried chicken tender or two on top instead it was just a few small pieces of breast meat ! U get a lot of food as it came with two sides of which I had the home fries & peaches! The home fries that were crispy were good but then a lot of white potatoes underneath & they were sliced big in circles which I prefer my home fries diced but all in all a good family restaurant & the prices were good for amount of food you get read more

My boyfriend just moved to the area, and we have not ventured out to find too many favorite local spots yet. We were looking for a place to grab a late breakfast, and we had both remembered driving by Dutch Country. We looked up the menu, and we were sold! We ventured there around 11am on a Saturday. There is plenty of parking in their lot, and it did not seem too crowded when we got there. The hostess greeted us, and asked if we were eating breakfast or lunch. We said breakfast, and she took us to the dining room in the back of the building-I'm curious if when you go, some people can have breakfast and some can have lunch in your party-we might try that next time. Service was very nice-Tessa was very sweet and attentive. I got JR's Favorite and my boyfriend got the Meat Lover's omelet. Both were huge portions, and very delicious. We also saw a sign next to our booth, advertising their Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll-we added one on mid-meal as a dessert, and we are so glad we did. We came here to purchase rabbit, pastries, sausages, and vegetables. They are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We arrived on Thursday in the morning and they are very busy. I had a blueberry fritter pastry and it was excellent. We also purchased a rabbit and sausage and the prices are reasonable. We also purchased good tasting corn. My family and I have been there for breakfast a few times. We think it pretty good, anything from variety of egg and bacon dishes to the French toast dishes. The service is good as well. The waiters and waitresses come by every few moments (5 minutes) to see if you're doing ok and beverage refills. The ambiance is that good ol country grandma like feeling. Makes me wish I was at my grandparents house for breakfasts like these. Since we were going to be in Hanover for the Utz factory tour, I researched places to eat there. I came across Dutch Country Restaurant, took a look at their menu---and---they had me at broasted chicken. Very few places serve that these days so I'm always pleased to come across a place that does so. Broasted chicken differs from fried chicken due to the cooking method. Like fried chicken, it is battered. The difference is that broasted chicken is deep fried in a pressure cooker. The end result is a chicken with fewer calories than fried plus it is crispy and moist. Well...that's the way it's supposed to be. We got here for an early dinner. There is a sign that says "Seat Yourself". We chose a booth and a server came along shortly. Both of us ordered soda (orange crush). My husband got two hot dogs. Of course, I got the broasted chicken. For my two sides, I chose cole slaw and mashed potatoes. The menu said to allow 20 minutes for broasted chicken, which I didn't mind. Dinner came out well before 20 minutes, which had me wondering---and I was right to wonder. This was the worst broasted chicken I ever had. It was dried out and had very little crisp on the skin. The more I thought about it, the more I figured that it was precooked and sat under a heat lamp. I had ordered a 2 piece dinner with white meat (breast and wing). The mashed potatoes and gravy was fine but the coleslaw would have been better if it wasn't swimming in dressing. My husband pronounced his hot dogs as okay. I mean, it's really hard to screw up a hot dog. Dinner didn't cost much---something like $22 before the tip. If it cost more than that, I would have been more unhappy than I was at the time. You have to pay at the register and it's hard to figure out where exactly one should line up. Plus you have to wait for a server to notice that there are people waiting to pay. The restaurant is 40 years old and could use a face lift. In other words, it's shabby but clean. If we're in the area again, we'll give this place a pass. read more

This restaurant was recommended to me by a coworker. I had my colonoscopy down the street at the surgery center and after two days of not really having any solid food I was pretty hungry. They had so many items on their menu that I want to try so I ordered a bunch of stuff. The grilled sticky was pretty awesome dipped in my coffee. I ordered a half of a pumpkin waffle that was drizzled with caramel and pecans and whipped cream and it was simply divine. There chip beef gravy over toast was delicious and it was the only thing that I ate all of because I only ordered one piece of toast with the gravy. Their angel food French toast was very interesting, like a dessert more or less I had one piece topped with strawberries and whip cream. Stopped in for brunch today and the food is plentiful. My breakfast was 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, redskin potatoes, breakfast meat and toast. I said no to the toast and still took home a pancake, some egg and potatoes! My husband got the farmers breakfast which was 2 eggs, potatoes, a biscuit and a ham steak which was huge. Everything tasted good! At the next table, a woman ordered the crab cake. It looked super- it looked like crab meat as opposed to bread or breading. So guess what I'm trying next time!! read more
