Three words: Get the square. Famous has been a staple in the area for a long, long time and has made consistently really good local pies forever. That being said, get the square. I can't explain why, it just is. The square is significantly better than the round pies. It's just a fact of life. Woooah blast from the past! It's been years since I've been to famous pizza. I grew up eating famous and used to ride my bike here as a kid and it's still exactly the same as I remember it. Same family is still running and operating it serving a classic Greek style pizza. The restaurant offers sit down eating also delivery along with quickly friendly service. I had the cheese pepperoni pizza that was crispy and flavorful. Also a side of onion rings that was pretty basic but the thing one joyed most was the buffalo chicken calzone! Only had one pizza here so bear that in mind as you read the review. It's good pizza but nothing extraordinary for the northeast. The crust was thin and slightly crispy and definitely above average. They were busy when I ordered and they still made it fast. The seating area inside is kind of odd with a full counter area with seats facing the back wall and also booth tables towards the front. I suspect if you're a regular the service gets noticeably better as it seemed like they look to see if they recognize anyone coming in through the door. read more

When I was little there was a pizza place near my Grandma's house in CT that made shredded meatball pizzas. They closed 20 years ago and I have been searching for a similar pizza ever since. This was a horrible experience. I called ahead and asked how many slices a large would be. They told me 16 slices so I said great I'll take 3 large pizzas and a medium. I got a small and 3 large pizzas that came with EIGHT SLICES. I went back in and asked them if If this was the right order because I didn't get the right amount. They told me it was, they lied on the phone. The service was horrible and very rude when it was clearly their mistake on the phone. They told me they would make me two more pizzas. Since moving to Western Cranston this has been our go to pizza place. I think there are some other reviews that are referring to a different Famous pizza. Ive picked up orders multiple times, and they have been nothing but nice, in fact they gave me a free pizza one time due to a canceled order. This is a greek style pizza, which is a nice change compared to the more traditional Italian style pizzas offered in the area. It has nice crust that compliments the pizza, and not overly large. The sauce is just right, they do not over do it, overall the pizza has the perfect balance of ingredients. The subs are out of this world. I have not tried everything, but the Italian, Turkey, and Steak subs are amazing. They bake all of their subs, so if you prefer a cold sandwich you will need to ask, but they are happy to prepare any item the way you like. As if I have not praised this establishment enough already, their delivery is fast, and the drivers are always friendly. read more

So I've determined that I actually really like the pizza at Famous Pizza as long as it has toppings. A plain cheese pizza is just cheese overkill (see my previous review: a pool of cheese in the center). As long as there are toppings, it really downplays the cheese, and is overall a much better experience. I really like the crust here. It's pretty crispy and has good flavor. I recently tried a really loaded pizza with pretty much everything on it and it was definitely my favorite. I'm glad I reevaluated my opinion of Famous Pizza. I think I'm more likely to order pizza from here now that I figured out what it really is that I didn't like about my previous experience. Definitely gotta order toppings or ask for way less cheese. We are regular customers since we moved to the area about 6 years ago. Tried several other pizza spots near by, but Famous Pizza is by far our favorite. Love, that it is a family business. Terrible customer service! Ordered 3 pizzas explained to them our address and the rudely stated they know where it is( everyone gets it mixed up) they still showed up the the wrong address. After paying and an hour and a half later the driver took off rather quickly pizzas looked like the driver slammed on the breaks and turned them into calzones and a big mess. We called to complain and they could not remake the pizza as they were closing which was not a big deal and stated they would give us a refund credit for the next time which we agreed was acceptable . 1 month later it was a fight to get our money back and a credit they wanted to only credit us 1 pizza and finally we went down and got our money back stay away. Ordered pizza for my poker group (8) guys at my home last night. It was fantastic. The right amount of toppings ( cheese, pepperoni, and sausage, and peppers). The crust was perfect. Everyone in my group wanted to know where I purchased this award winning ( in my opinion) pizza. We have had our ups and downs( delivery problems), with this place over the years, and I can tell you, things have changed. They do care about quality, and their long-time customers. Ordered several times from this location. The woman who answers the phone interrupts you and is very rude. The first two times there was a hair in my fries. The third time, I called and placed an order and told them about the hair in my fries, the man on the phone acted as if he didn't even hear me. I ordered a large Italian grinder and fries this time. I ordered a large pepperoni, mushroom with extra cheese pizza. When I walked in to pick it up, the folks inside were very pleasant. They thanked me several times prior to leaving with my pizza. The pizza is EXCELLENT! The crust is crispy, the sauce was mild and the toppings were generous. My search is over for decent pizza in this area. If you haven't tried Famous Pizza, you need to. It's not the cheapest but this is actually the best pizza in the universe. The crust is not too soft or too hard. It's nice and buttery (is pizza crust supposed to be buttery?). Obviously it's not going to be like some fancy grilled pizza thing but if you're looking for delicious pizza (and stuff) to get delivered to your house, this is the place. Even if they did send me two chef salads when I ordered two Greeks. But for how amazing the pizza is I literally do not care about that. Don't get salad if you're going to a pizza place. My wife and I had just left the tulip gardens @ Wicked Tulips in Johnston and we're looking for a quiet lunch. We found Famous Pizza just down the road. We had a spinach pie and a meatball grinder. Horrible!!! I had to sign up for Yelp just to post this review. It has been years since I've received such HORRIBLE take out service. I ordered a BLT grinder by phone. I asked for extra bacon and the person that took my order told me "no worries I will make the grinder myself". I get home. 2 bacon slices. I Called to reorder a week later. I Explained that i called a week prior and ordered a BLT- extra bacon- and there was very little bacon on it and i was hoping to order another BLT and if I could just not be charged for the extra bacon this time. The person on the phone told me they do not even have a BLT on the menu and if "we are doing you a favor then you shouldn't bust our balls about it!" And then hung up the phone on me!! I called back, then explained to the manager what happened and he tells me "he DOESN'T have time for me or this conversation" he also hung up the phone. ! Never once did I raise more voice or use profanity during these conversations. I have lived in the Johnson area for 15 years and have been going to famous pizza and using their delivery. Every time I order from there they forget something or they have been times that they actually have not delivered my order and pretended that the driver was on the way. Sometime delivery orders can take up to an hour and 45 minutes and when you call they say the same thing that the driver is on the way and you know that they have forgotten your order. Don't ever leave your order with the mother who answers the phone she never takes correctly. It is a poorly run family owned business that I try to support but again and again get terrible customer service. The pizza is good most times and the sandwiches are also good it's just getting the order is correct and delivery times or for getting deliveries all together. Unfortunately for them it is time they ask their mother to retire from the business or they will no longer have a business. read more
