We got there around 10:00am yesterday, with 5 people in our party. I was a bit surprised to learn we had a 25 minute wait but was pleasantly surprised that they over estimated the wait time. Our server, who I sadly have managed to forget his name was great(he had the best hair, a little bit of blue and purple hair dye in the front). Sunday Funday began with brunch at the Famous Toastery!!! We had the Famous Hash with a side pancake and the Breakfast Quesadilla with a side of potatoes! Oh man! It was so good! Their pancakes are soooooo fluffy and melt in your mouth. The breakfast quesadilla was perfect with ham, cheddar cheese, and eggs and was served with a tasty salsa and sour cream! We have been wanting to go to this place for so long, but every time we try to go the wait is 45 mins to an hour, so we finally made it...yay. We tried to call numerous times before going and no one picked up . So we tried our luck. We got to sit down this time. We got the southwestern omelette, it was nice but needed more filling, it was 99% eggs and you could barely taste the spicy chorizo and the other fillings, the fillings were delicious but I had to throw away more than half the egg so I can taste the filling inside. Very disappointed, except for the availability of gluten-free items. I had the "Famous Hash" which comes topped with two eggs any style and topped with Hollandaise sauce. My scrambled eggs had no flavor even though I had cheddar cheese added and what there was of the Hollandaise was just as bland. The hash was mediocre at best. I did get a side of sausage gravy which was very good. My daughter ordered a gluten free waffle (our entire reason for coming here) and when asked if it was indeed gluten free, the waiter noticed it might not be gluten free because there was a small amount of powdered sugar on it which he says signifies a regular waffle. Interestingly, the replacement waffle came with powdered sugar as well-but since my daughter didn't have a violent reaction, it was indeed gluten free. For the quality of the dishes, it was way overpriced. My biggest complaint is the service-or lack thereof. After delivering our food, we were able to catch our server walking by one time and requested syrup and more tea; we never saw hide nor hair of him again anywhere. My daughter gave me her drink when I needed more and went to the wait station to request our bill and a box. When that server (perhaps acting manager too) came to our table we asked if our waiter had left for the day; he said, "No, he is doing his closing side-work." Now I fully understand and appreciate the desire to leave on time, but we got there at 12:45, and left just before 2:00 -they close at 3:00! The Famous Toastery looked great on the inside. One of my girlfriends and I ordered the same thing. (This is important.) The other three women got their food piping hot, but the kitchen staff mixed up the order and didn't make mine. No big deal. The waiter apologized profusely and went to fix it. We hadn't gotten together for 6 months and I was just enjoying my friends. My meal quickly came out, piping hot. I'd never had that dish before so I didn't know what to expect. Half-way through, I glanced at the identical meal on S.'s plate and realized mine was only half-cooked. Okay, accidents happen---someone goofed. I took it home and finished cooking it in the toaster oven. But here's what earned Famous Toastery a bad review. I paid my bill, $24. My friend who had the same dish then paid $12. Quickly I dug out my receipt. She'd only had water. I'd ordered a small orange juice (about 6 ounces) and a little cup of fruit with my meal. The main dish cost us $12 each. But I was charged S4.50 for the fruit and $6.00 for the OJ. I could have bought 2 cartons of orange juice and a big bag of cut fruit at Food Lion for about $10---it was Food Lion quality too. I did the math. every carton of OJ the Famous Toastery pours nets them over $45 in profit. Nope. Never again. I'm done with this restaurant. read more

Famous Toastery is open for dine in and takeout. I chose to dine in. As the signage suggested, I stopped inside the door to be seated. Soon a waitress informed me that I could sit anywhere. I did not know which tables had been sanitized so I looked for the cleanest one and chose a table by the window. The tables are spread out for social distancing. When other parties came in, one of the waitresses did inform them if they were about to sit at a table that had not been sanitized yet. Once seated, I was greeted by Marida about 5 minutes later. She provided me with a disposable paper menu and took my drink order. Service was slow to receive my drink and place a food order. There seemed to be three employees working. Two of which were waitresses who seemed to have numerous customers inside and outside. They were both friendly, but seemed distracted and busy. After placing my order, I did receive my food quickly. Marida checked with me to ensure everything was correct, which it was. I ordered: - Hot Earl Grey Tea: they were out of earl grey so I ordered English Breakfast. They serve Mighty Leaf tea and usually offer earl grey, English breakfast, and jasmine green tea. It cost $3, which was pricy considering I was not offered more hot water. - Cali Benedict with fruit: definitely filling and the medium poached eggs were cooked perfectly. The large portion of avocado overpowers the dish so I could barely taste the eggs and hollandaise. The restaurant was full of natural light coming in from several large windows. It was pleasant sitting by the window. Conversation carries easily inside, so it can be loud. They do also play country music at a low, reasonable volume. Checkout is easy since they offer a touch less option. Scan the QR code on your receipt and pay online. I visited in October so they decorated the inside and outside with Halloween decorations (e.g. skeleton in the fountain, pumpkins, bats on the wall). read more

Husband and I rarely have time for a leisurely brunch but this particular morning we did and happily made our way to Famous Toastery. I was excited that they had GF options for pancakes and eagerly ordered the blueberry gluten free pancakes. The top of the pancake section of the menu stated that pancakes came with one side: meat, grits, fruit or breakfast potatoes. The waitress asked me if I wanted eggs. No. She then asked what meat I wanted. I stated that for my side I wanted the grits. Again she asked me what meat I wanted. At this point I figured that must be automatically included so I just said country ham. The waitress immediately printed our check and left. We looked at check and it had two breakfast combos on it. Husband had ordered the breakfast combo which was eggs, one pancake and a side but I wanted the stack of pancakes. Husband tried to grab waitress before she put order in to kitchen and told her I wanted the stack of pancakes. She told him that no, I had to get the breakfast combo because I wanted grits and country ham. I never wanted country ham! Husband thought he finally got her to understand and sat back down. When our food was brought out it was clear the order was still put in wrong. I had one blueberry pancake, grits and (instead of country ham) city ham. Told them I wanted a stack of pancakes, not the ham. A kind waitress stopped by to help, changed the order and gave us a new check. She said my additional two blueberry pancakes would be out soon. I ate my first pancake which was a little dry, but most gf things are. Not nearly as good as Another Broken Egg's pancakes, though. Grits were very good. My additional two pancakes came out... with no blueberries. Also, on the second check I was charged $13 for pancakes, $2 for GF (that is fair and was stated on menu) and $2 for blueberries when fruit pancakes on the menu were advertised as $13. At this point I asked the same waitress who helped us before (not ours) for a box and to just remove the $2 charge for the blueberries because there were no blueberries (and there should not have been an additional charge anyway). We never saw our waitress after the initial time she took our order. Our water glasses remained empty until another waiter kindly filled them. I've been to this place a few times. I've always gone for afternoon breakfast. I wish I could go for brinner (breakfast dinner). The staff are super friendly and attentive. The food is priced right and they even let me customize my order. I prefer scrambles (where the ingredients are mixed with the eggs), as opposed to omelets (where the ingredients are loose and folded into a dry egg pancake/taco). But they don't have scrambles on the menu. I asked the server and to my delight she said I could order anything I wanted. Awesome! The scramble was delicious. I had a bagel and they have butter patties on the table, so you don't have to put a frozen block of butter on a warm bagel! These are the tiny details that make a big difference. The food I've had here is excellent. My first visit, I ordered bacon and they asked me how I wanted it prepared. I was shocked. I've never been given that option in a restaurant before, but I love it! It was thick, heart, crunchy strips. I wholeheartedly recommend this place for breakfast and brunch. Absolutely the worst!!! We arrived at 11am today and waited 45 minutes for a table. No problem. Wait time is to be expected on a Sunday morning no matter where you eat. We were a party of six. We received a text that our table was ready and the hostess says who are ya'll. We give our name and she then claims she has no table for anyone with that name. Uh well how did you get our number to text us??? So she agrees that makes sense (duh), and turns out they put a different name with our phone number. Then she just points and says..that's your table over there. Wow. Our table was 3 different sizes tables and the legs were broke or not rightened. We had to ask the waiter to fix it. Finally we ordered and I decided to have a Bellini. I almost never drink but thought I would give it a try. I didnt bring my purse in so no I.D However I am 58 years old. The waiter refuses to serve me unless I can prove I am 21. So I said there is no way on Gods green earth could I pass for 20 or younger. My kids and grandkids are at this table lol. He said that's the rules. 40 minutes pass and no food. So my husbad asked whats up. The waiter says they lost your order so they had to staet all over again. No wait...we gotta wait again. Yes, waiter says sorry and walks away. So we call the manager, explain and he goes back to the kitchen. Magically we get food like 10 minutes later. But the 4 yearold at my table had to wait on her food a little longer. Really? Pancakes take no time. So we are ALL annoyed. No water refills, and we had to beg other servers to help us. This worst customer service ever!!!. During that time, I found an electronic copy of my passport on my phone and I, grandma, was then allowed to order a drink. The food was bland. Full stop. I was very grateful there was no salt because these restaurants don't know the difference between sodium and seasoning. But this has neither. Just bland as bland can be. So I asked the others at the table how their food tasted and their food was bland also. None of us ate all of our meal. It was that bad. When the check came and qe had to beg for that also btw, there was no apology for any of it. So my daughter in law said well damn are we going to at least get an apology or a discount for the wait. The waiter said "are you kidding?" My daughter in law said do I LOOK like I am kidding. Get the manager. So she explains what we endured once again and then he apogized, clearly annoyed and he took $20 off the bill. The sausage was barely visible - less than a part of a link. The potatoes were totally unappetizing - large hunks of greasy, mushy potatoes that appeared to have been reheated to the point some potatoes appeared mashed. The place was not busy - mid morning. The server was pleasant, but I got no attention after the meal was served. No offer of coffee refill. Also as another reviewer noted, the silverware was tinny and cheap looking. And other signs of poor maintenance (rain leaking in front doors, bathroom wall chipped).. But the prices are not cheap - almost $20. Hope they can turn this around. read more
