    Bubbles N' Bows Doggie Salon

Took my 5 week (=3 1/2 months for regular people) toy poodle puppy to Bubbles N' Bows on a…read moreSaturday, noon appt. time. Check in was a breeze. They just wanted to know names (mine and his) and if he had his rabies shot. They put a plastic tag around his neck, and I handed him over, through the check in window, inside. They put him on the floor in the front office to roam around with 3 other small dogs. I noticed it was a packed house and LOUD. I could barely hear the receptionist over the LOUD barking dogs. There were literally dogs everywhere! Some I saw; others were put away some where. What I gathered is that most of the dogs are able to roam around, until its their turn. Being a new doggy parent, I really didn't expect all of the chaos. Dropped him off at noon and he wasn't ready until 4:45pm. So if you're looking for an in and out type of place, this ain't it! But I was told that if I snag an early appt, like one when they first open, I'll probably only have to wait about 2 hours to get him back. I'll for sure try that next time. Overall, his haircut came out very cute and they did exactly what I asked for: Keep it short, but not shaved. Don't shave his snout. Round face. I paid $60 for a wash, nail trim and hair cut. All of the staff was super nice. They let me take before and after pics and answered all of my silly 1st-Time Dog Mom questions. This was a more inviting experience than his first puppy trim at the local PetSmart but it did take A LONG time. I'll be visiting again, with an earlier appt. to see how that goes. Gave them a 4/5 because it smelled, it was loud, and dogs were just roaming all around in the grooming area. I didn't like that. But I was please with his haircut, he smelled amazing and the staff was super nice.

So ended up paying $145 BASE for her haircut, and expected me to pay tip on top of that. I've always taken her there, and lied about why they were charging more.

And this place deserves the praise! We'd previously taken our dog to one of the many other boarding facilities in this area and always been disappointed in the fact that (1) he wouldn't get any exercise because he's not the kind of dog to play with other dogs, he's the kind of dog who wants to walk with humans and (2) he'd always come home smelling HORRIBLE, even if the other boarding places had claimed to have bathed him. Then we found Laurel Oak, and we haven't looked back! We love that our pup gets two walks a day here, plus hours and hours of supervised play time. We love the Facebook posts showing that he's doing okay and "making friends". ;) And we love that when they say he is getting a bath, we can actually tell that he got a bath! This place is not really convenient to our home at all, but we keep going there again and again because we are so happy with the service and attention our dog gets. That alone is a testament to how great this place is.

I had an appointment to bring in my dog to be evaluated for a daycare spot, but before I brought…read moreher in, I spoke with the general manager on the phone to ask about the other Yelp review that stated they use electronic bark collars. She said they no longer use them after they had an incident regarding one, but they allow owners to bring their dogs in already wearing them. I asked about the wording of the waiver owners are required to sign, specifically asking if it had been revised so that it no longer required owners to legally consent to allowing the company to put bark collars on their dogs. She was evasive, stating she hadn't looked at the contract lately, wasn't sure if it had been revised, it was not going to be revised for the next few weeks at least, etc. I said, "Well, if you're not going to put bark collars on the dogs, then there is absolutely no reason why the company would need to keep that part in the contract, right?" She had no answer for that, other than saying "It's for owners who bring their dogs in with the bark collar already on, but we do not provide them." I said, "Well, how is it worded? Does it talk about the owner providing the bark collar, or does it require the owner to give consent for the company to put a bark collar on? Those are two very different things." She could not - or would not - answer that question. I asked her to get a copy of the contract, look at it, and read me the relevant part so we could just get clear on what the waiver actually stated. She said it was available online, but only after I signed up and signed in as a client and gave them all my information. I said, "You can't take 2 minutes to just read me the relevant part without making me go through all that?" She could not. She was busy; she had better things to do than provide minimal customer service on an important issue. Clearly, she had something to hide. My guess is that at this time the contract has not been revised and it still requires owners to legally consent to the company putting bark collars on their dogs. I'm not okay with that. I canceled my appointment. They didn't want my business enough to bother answering a simple yet important question, and I don't want to give my business to a company who requires owners to legally consent to authorizing the company to do what I view as torturing dogs, and tries to hide what they're doing. If you want humane, compassionate care for your furbaby with an above-board, honest and trustworthy company, look elsewhere. There are lots of better options.
