Emily is always willing to take the time needed for our Big Maya's mani pedi each month. She is very efficient and does a great job!

Avoid this place at all costs…read more We were visiting from California and needed to get our Golden Retriever groomed before flying home with him. This is where my mom normally takes her Golden, so I honestly didn't think I needed to do much research or specifically ask who would be grooming him. I should have. This is, without a doubt, the worst groom I have ever seen on my dog. Normally, he is groomed by a master groomer back in California, so maybe my standards are higher than average--but I posted a photo of his groom on Instagram and 45,000 people saw it. The reactions were unanimous. People were horrified. One person literally asked if the groomer had been blindfolded. His breeder gasped when she saw him. He was left with huge mats on his stomach, and he was matted around his hind end, so I completely understood that the area would need to be taken shorter than usual. But instead of being properly shaved or blended, it looked like someone had simply chopped the hair out with blunt scissors. I genuinely could have done a better job myself. I almost cried when I saw him. And honestly, while a bad haircut is frustrating, the way the situation was handled was what bothered me most. The owner immediately started the conversation with, "We don't do refunds," before I had even explained what was wrong. She eventually admitted that an inexperienced groomer had done the groom. If I owned a grooming business, I would want to be proud of every dog walking out of my shop. Your work is literally a walking business card. And if you have an inexperienced groomer working for you while charging full price, I would expect the owner or a more experienced groomer to check the work before the dog goes home. I have had one bad grooming experience in California before, and the owner was MORTIFIED. She couldn't apologize enough and immediately wanted to make it right. That was the complete opposite of this experience. I explained that I was flying home the next day, so returning for another groom wasn't an option. I was then offered two free baths or 20% off my next groom. Which, frankly, was comical because after this experience, I would never trust them to groom my dog again. His hair will grow back. That's not the point. The point is that I trusted a business with my dog, paid full price, and received an objectively terrible groom--then felt like the biggest concern was avoiding a refund rather than making things right. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

His fur was already super long and I asked if they could fully groom him and they said no. When I picked him up he was in the office with huge dogs (he is 7 pounds and small) and he was in the corner scared to death. Then I called back 3 weeks later asking if they could please give him a full groom, and they said yes. I dropped him off at 10am, and asked if he could please not be kept with a bunch of big dogs and they just said "oh they're nice". Then they called me at 2pm (4 HOURS later) to tell me he had mats and they would need to shave him. I am fully aware that he had a small mat on his leg and a small one under his neck so I asked if they could just shave those areas, and they said no. I didn't want my puppy completely shaved so they said I could pick him up and brush them out myself. So not only did they not fully groom him the first time I brought him, they had him today for 4 hours and hadn't even started on him, lied about his mats, and suggested I just brush him myself and bring him back. I will never come here again. I also heard a groomer yelling at a dog that was whining "STOP IT!!!! IM NOT EVEN TOUCHING YOU" (in a super mean tone) Which I thought was highly inappropriate. And they never actually answer the phone. (I also echo the other review here - they let dogs pee and poop in the areas they keep them in and they walk all around in it)

And this place deserves the praise! We'd previously taken our dog to one of the many other boarding facilities in this area and always been disappointed in the fact that (1) he wouldn't get any exercise because he's not the kind of dog to play with other dogs, he's the kind of dog who wants to walk with humans and (2) he'd always come home smelling HORRIBLE, even if the other boarding places had claimed to have bathed him. Then we found Laurel Oak, and we haven't looked back! We love that our pup gets two walks a day here, plus hours and hours of supervised play time. We love the Facebook posts showing that he's doing okay and "making friends". ;) And we love that when they say he is getting a bath, we can actually tell that he got a bath! This place is not really convenient to our home at all, but we keep going there again and again because we are so happy with the service and attention our dog gets. That alone is a testament to how great this place is.

She said they no longer use them after they had an incident regarding one, but they allow owners to bring their dogs in already wearing them. I asked about the wording of the waiver owners are required to sign, specifically asking if it had been revised so that it no longer required owners to legally consent to allowing the company to put bark collars on their dogs. She was evasive, stating she hadn't looked at the contract lately, wasn't sure if it had been revised, it was not going to be revised for the next few weeks at least, etc. I said, "Well, if you're not going to put bark collars on the dogs, then there is absolutely no reason why the company would need to keep that part in the contract, right?" She had no answer for that, other than saying "It's for owners who bring their dogs in with the bark collar already on, but we do not provide them." I said, "Well, how is it worded? Does it talk about the owner providing the bark collar, or does it require the owner to give consent for the company to put a bark collar on? Those are two very different things." She could not - or would not - answer that question. I asked her to get a copy of the contract, look at it, and read me the relevant part so we could just get clear on what the waiver actually stated. She said it was available online, but only after I signed up and signed in as a client and gave them all my information. I said, "You can't take 2 minutes to just read me the relevant part without making me go through all that?" She could not. She was busy; she had better things to do than provide minimal customer service on an important issue. Clearly, she had something to hide. My guess is that at this time the contract has not been revised and it still requires owners to legally consent to the company putting bark collars on their dogs. I'm not okay with that. I canceled my appointment. They didn't want my business enough to bother answering a simple yet important question, and I don't want to give my business to a company who requires owners to legally consent to authorizing the company to do what I view as torturing dogs, and tries to hide what they're doing. If you want humane, compassionate care for your furbaby with an above-board, honest and trustworthy company, look elsewhere. There are lots of better options.
