During my trip to Tybee I decided to head on into Fannies to have some solo time during a family vacay. (I'm a new mom, we always need some solo time)! Fannie's is a huge, 2-story restaurant with so much space right at the edge of the beach. It just calls out to you! So I headed on in. I let a woman at the door know that I wanted to sit upstairs and she directed me to the stairwell on the side of the building. I went up and came across their spacious upper dining room and deck which looked right out on the beach and boardwalk. Such a great oceanside vibe! As soon as I walked up I was greeted by a gentleman who seemed to be a manager of sorts. He guided me over to a table on the deck and left me with a menu. I appreciate not having to sit around looking crazy! Soon, a waitress named Nicki came over to help me. She was a sweetheart! During my visit I had their steamed oysters, rib plate and the frozen lemonade. The steamed oysters were a bittt overcooked but they worked! The ribs were superrr tender but I wish they had some more meat on them, but I was surprised at how tender they were. The frozen lemonade was delicious and super refreshing! I just don't feel like there was enough liquor in it, and I'm not even one to like too much liquor. All in all, a basic experience when it comes to food, but I was really impressed with the level of service I received, the timeliness of my order and the overall vibe of the restaurant. Great service on the patio/deck. Had the blackened mahi tuna tacos, two tacos with a decent serving of tuna as well as the rice and beans side. The wife has a huge salad and was happy with the taste and portion size. The margaritas were really good and came in both frozen and on the rocks variety. Wait was no existent at lunch even though it was packed. Got right in and seated. The place definitely has the vacation beach vibe down. Waited for a while until the hostess cam and asked if our server ever came. The service was 2 out of 5 stars. The waitress was either just rude or just annoyed she had to serve us. Never brought straws we asked for (I went and got them from the bar). Totally forgot to put in our fried okra order....then blamed kitchen. Never asked to refill water. We have akways ordered food and took back to beach (which is always sooo good) Today we dined inside for the shade & AC. Lucked out and got seated immediately. Fast friendly service, fun beachy tiki bar decor. Quick lunch was very good. We had ahi tuna tacos, shrimp quesadillas and a burger. Came quickly! Burger was huge. Quesadilla nice size, but a little skimpy on the shrimp. Salsa was too watery for my taste but yummy, as was the quesadilla which also has pineapple and roasted peppers. Fish tacos looked great. We all were happy with our meal, and didnt burn mich beach time. In and out in an hour. Also have great selection of local beers. Been enjoying Fannie's food for many years. Glad we finally dined in. We were between a few places along the beach on Tybee and this is the one we landed on. The menu looked decent and we liked the location. There wasn't much for a vegetarian like myself, but that's the case with most of Tybee Island: typically one vegetarian option per restaurant. The kids didn't find anything to eat (also vegetarian) and my wife tried the fish. The main issue here was that we waited for our food for over an hour. We didn't complain, but were given a 10% discount. I do think we should've received more of a discount. We watched several families come in after us, order, get their food, eat it, and leave, before we even received our food. We were pretty disappointed. Our server was nice and friendly and welcoming. She apologized a few times. I appreciate that. She told us "someone stole our food", which I assume means that another server grabbed it and delivered it to a different table. I just didn't anticipate spending so much of our one afternoon at the beach inside of a restaurant. And the food was just average. There are too many places to eat in the area that have a similar menu. I'll try someplace else next time. I appreciate the unique decor and my kids really liked the bar seating with the bathing suits. That was funny and made for a good photo op. read more

What a terrible experience at this place! Was really excited and looking forward to this place since reading so many good reviews online. The service was HORRIFIC, over an hour to get our meal (4 of us) and it wasn't even all that great. Waitress never checked on us to see how everything was, I had to approach the checkout counter to ask about an eta on our meal; staff responded with a very bad attitude. This establishment needs staff education on customer service!!! There was a table across from us that approached us as they left, 2 ladies, asked us what we thought of the food; all 4 of responded in unison "bad and horrible service" They said they had the same experience. I'm not really sure how this place gets such good reviews. The only good thing about Fannie's was the frozen drinks, they were made very well, BUT took a VERY long time to get to us. We believe the poor service was because of our waitress, we don't know her name because she didn't introduce herself to us. The establishment was very crowded, had plenty of wait staff, all tables around us were getting served, some even came after us and left before us! As we left the establishment, we were approached outside by one of the waitresses, asking us if we had a poor experience, we answered honestly and said it was actually HORRIBLE, she asked who our waitress was, we said we didn't know all we could say was that she had a green Tshirt on; she said she will report this to the manager. Hopefully she will, because if I owned this place I would be extremely upset and embarrassed. We are tourists visiting the area and were given such an attitude and had such a horrible experience. Afterwards, we went to see the Tybee island light house and then had a drink at NorthBeach Bar & Grill, and boy did they have that southern hospitality that we were looking for!! My advice to you, SKIP FANNIE'S and head straight to the lighthouse and then catch some true southern hospitality at NORTHBEACH BAR & GRILL!! Arrived at 7 pm on a Monday evening. The restaurant was full. Waited for a bit and a large table opened up for our group of 8. Between our all of us at the table we ordered blackened mahi tacos and low country boil. We also did the coconut shrimp appetizer. All of the food came out hot and well seasoned and delicious. There were no leftovers. For desert the key lime pie was also delicious. All in all it was a great experience and food was fantastic. read more

The service was great but the cook was what netted the low rating. Our food was cold, like been sitting on the counter for a couple hours cold. My husband got the low country boil and the seasoning was literally dumped on the top. The coleslaw was dryer than desert sand. We started our visit to Tybee with an early lunch and daytime drank here at Fannies. It was the closest open restaurant after we parked, and we really lucked out and enjoyed it! The service was relaxed but not neglectful. It was just really lovely to sit outside and enjoy the seaside and have what turned out to be a delicious meal! I got the fish tacos and they were perfectly seasoned and cooked. I can't remember what my guy got, but he was equally as pleased with our luck at finding something so decent without prior planning! We were a bit apprehensive going in here because of the lower reviews on Google but we were so happy we went in. We sat on the upstairs patio with an ocean view and our server was Angel. She was efficient and very pleasant. We ordered po boy (fish) veggie tacos, ahi tuna salad (iceberg lettuce - really) and tuna nachos. It was a nice day. We were greeted at entering by a young man, he was polite and let us know he had a table leaving shortly and we would only wait a few minutes. He was accurate in the estimate. We were sat with Carol, she was over quickly took our orders and was efficient as well as kind. She offered to bring our kids meals once they were ready which was sweet and helpful. She was great at checking on us and keeping drinks full. We visited around lunch time so it was somewhat busy but still nice. It was family friendly but also somewhat quiet. The food was delivered quickly and correctly. It was all very good. We loved the fries and onion rings. We did think the shrimp boil would've been a little larger portioned but it was still nice. Has a complete beach vibe right near the beach and the paid parking area for the beach is just across the street. Our server was friendly. Unfortunately our food took a very long time. There are some pretty accurate reviews on here, yep. The good: fries are amazing. The waitresses work hard and did everything right. Price wise, there's not many places on-island that are as good of value. The taco filling was delicious. The not-so-good: the tortilla itself and the black beans were dried out when the dish arrived. My sister from Ohio came to visit and wanted to have lunch with an Ocean View. Usually we go to The Deck but having been there 3 times we were up for a new place. Fannie's showed a table with an ocean background. This was from Google. We said fine let's try them. The ocean view is only available from the second floor. On the main floor you get the back side of a scrubby sand dune that blocks all view of the ocean. When They sat us at a table I asked about Ocean views. the waitress said this is the best they had. She didn't mention upstairs that was closed. When we took a walk after lunch we found people with styrofoam containers eating on the board walk. We had 2 Low Country Boils and a Shrimp Burger. The Shrimp was overcooked and hard to peel and devine. These shrimp had a ton of dirt. Much harder to clean after they are cooked. Yesterday we had excellent clean shrimp at a small restaurant, The Crab House on Berwick's parking lot for a cheaper price. The potatoes in the London Boil were ok and the sausage were small thin slices devoid of flavor. Not worth $18. The Shrimp Burger was like a crab cake made of shrimp on a bun was pretty good. Very surprised by the low reviews, so I came to offer my experience for some potential redemption! The bachelorette group that I was vacationing with fell on unfortunate luck as it was raining the day we planned to go to Tybee. Our back up plan was nonexistent until we fell upon Fannie's. I really wanted to love my visit to Fannie's. I ordered online easily and the restaurant has a great atmosphere, but the service from management was a massive letdown. My group sat for over 15 minutes without being acknowledged by a single staff member, including a manager who was standing right in front of us. When we finally asked where to get our food, we were sent to the bar. The bartender was the absolute highlight--friendly, proactive, and even caught/fixed an error in our order. However, when I tried to give feedback to the manager, he was incredibly dismissive and acted like it was my fault for not knowing their system, despite being ignored by his team for 15 minutes. A Tuesday afternoon when not busy shouldn't be this difficult. Huge kudos to the bartender, but until the management treats customers with basic respect, we won't be back. read more

Went here the last week in March beyond read they have the best brunch and it has ocean views. You can definitely see the ocean from the 2nd floor and the restaurant has a ship wreck vibe up there. There's a whole piece of a boat that's repurposed into a table up there. I ordered the crab cake brunch which comes with a complimentary mimosa. The cakes were good but the mimosa was all orange juice - as was the other brunch cocktail that had champagne in it. I thought I captured pictures but unfortunately did not. I gave my boyfriend the Benedict eggs on my meal because I don't like my eggs that way, however, it turned out the eggs were overcooked and like hard boiled eggs. My boyfriend was disappointed in them. We went back a few days later for a drink & snack. There was a bit of a wait for the 1st floor but not too bad. We got the nachos and a beer. Stopped by here for dinner with a large group (14 people). Was so happy they were able to accommodate all of us. We sat upstairs and our waitress was great! Very attentive and super nice. To start, we had bangin' beach shrimp (fried shrimp tossed in bang bang sauce), Nachos (chips, chili, queso, pico de gallo, lettuce, salsa and sour cream. For my dinner, I ordered the fried shrimp and oyster combo. The plate came with fries, slaw, and hushpuppies. I really enjoyed all of the food. I think my favorite was the fried oysters. The kids shrimp and fries were good, but our two low country boil meals were disappointing since the shrimp was hard to peel and not deveined or cleaned whatsoever, which ruined it for me. It was very obviously seasoned after cooking instead of beforehand. The coleslaw was bland and didn't have enough dressing mixed in. We didn't even take our leftovers to go. We didn't realize until later that my daughter didn't receive the "treat" that was supposed to be included with the kids meal. The service was great and everything came out quickly. The bar stools were cute and the rest of the decor was nice. We likely won't return to Fannie's since we discovered better dining at Pier 16 and Stingray's Seafood. read more
