The food is excellent, well seasoned, came to the table hot from the kitchen and they were almost at capacity and a Saturday evening. Our server/waitress was awesome making sure everything was good and we had what we needed. The restaurant is nice, right on Butler Ave. The only issue was the enclosed dining area was hot, three a/c's three fans. Need a few more fans to help move the a/c. As the crowd started to thin out it started to feel better. My stars are mostly for the food and we will be back again soon. A must if visiting Tybee Island. read more

First, two definitions: Gloop: A thick wet substance that looks, smells and tastes unpleasant. Tourist trap: an establishment with the aim to attract tourists and their money, and typically providing poor yet overpriced services, entertainment, food, and other products. The first sign of trouble were the styrofoam cups, bowls, and plates, and plastic utensils. If charging $24-46 for "Dinners from the Steamer", there better be a tablecloth and proper tableware. My "Cadillac margarita" was Jose Cuervo and store-bought, bottled mix. The crab stew was gloop without crab meat. The french fries were the least unpleasant thing I had, but didn't come quickly from the under-heated frying oil. My wife's mussels were fresh and, in and of themselves, good, but they were served plain. No delicious Italian-cuisine-inspired tomato-based sauce for you! No baguette slices with whipped butter for you! They came with a single lemon wedge and a 2 oz plastic portion control cup of olive oil, butter and salt. This joint is a gloop-serving tourist trap. Go to Zunzibar instead! I'll post my five star review of Zunzibar soon. read more

Incredibly slow service, with no sense of urgency. Very bizarre night we had here. We sat at our table for 25 minutes before we were greeted. I felt sympathy for our server because she was the only server for the entire 8-table rooftop, and was also in charge of making all of her table's drinks, on a Saturday night, during the summer, in a restaurant in a very popular vacation area. To do this efficiently would be difficult for even the most seasoned of servers. Any sort of acknowledgement or apology would have gone a really long way, though. My 1/2 Pound Snow Crab barely contained any meat because the legs were so thin. Thankfully, I got to eat some of my friend's Crab Cake Sandwich, which was tasty and I enjoyed the creamy homemade dill sauce it came with. I also loved the Sting Shooter oyster shot. The oyster was huge (almost too big!) and you get a souvenir shot glass. Hopefully, this was just a one-off night. Wishing better for this restaurant in the future! read more

The smoked fish dip was very good with plenty of crackers and jalapeños to spice it up. I enjoyed the Ahi Tuna with 3 yummy sauces and pickled ginger. The crab soup and the lobster and crab bisque were not good. Way too thick and had more of a "dip" texture than soup or stew. You need some work on your soups! Fried shrimp looked pretty but tasted bad. I don't know how they messed that up?!? It was still a pleasant restaurant experience but wish I had stopped at the apps. read more

Sting Ray's Seafood completely blew my mind with their portion sizes. Dana was my server and she did a great job making sure everything came out smoothly. I ordered the Ramsey Snow Crab boil for one and had to double check that it wasn't for two because the platter was huge. It came with three snow crab legs, about a pound of shrimp, a pound of sausage, plus potato and corn. There was no way I could have finished it all by myself. I also tried the crab fritters as an appetizer, which were like mini crab cake balls, and they were really good. The only negative aspect of my visit was the bathroom located inside the restaurant. While using it I stepped on a tile in front of the toilet that popped up and threw me off balance. It may be a little TMI for a restaurant review, but it is definitely a safety hazard. I really hope the restaurant gets this addressed promptly because I often travel with my elderly grandmother, and I can only imagine how dangerous that could be for her or anyone else. read more

Decided to visit Stingrays when I saw clams on the menu. I was expecting them to include a lemon and butter broth that typically has a splash of wine in it as well, but these were served dry, covered in some type of paprika based seasoning that overpowered the clams' delicate flavor. I asked for bread and received a hoagie roll and some type of liquid trying to assume the identity of drawn butter. The service was good and ambiance pleasant- and there are at least three cats ( one named Old Bay) but food was definitely disappointing. read more

More like 4 1/2 stars! This was our second favorite restaurant on island. The place is quite casual with an upper and outside deck. Inside there is a bar and several low and high tables. We chose to sit in the air conditioning. The bar was full of folks eating and drinking. And the restaurant was quite busy but we got good and friendly service. I started with their "famous" crab stew. It was creamy and packed with crab meat. Very, very good. After that i had their softshell crab sandwich. It came with fries but I switched to red potatoes. There were two meaty lightly breaded soft shells on the roll. Done of the best I've had in a long time. My husband had the peel n eat shrimp. Served warm and buttery, there was a lot of shrimp in his half pound portion. He said they were great. We'd definitely recommend this restaurant. Probably my least favorite meal that I had while visiting Tybee. Our server was nice and the outside patio isn't bad but the food just didn't do it for me. I tried the blackened mahi sandwich and it was just so bad. It didn't taste blackened at all and even though most places in the island might use frozen food, you can definitely taste it here. It didn't have any flavor except for a slight fishy taste and it was hard and not flaky at all. The fries were the best part. I was told lobster and crab bisque was good. Also tried the hush puppies which were fine but sweeter than I like and the conch fritters were super chewy in a very unappealing way. I went into the restaurant to order some takeout for my husband and I we're staying in town. The hostess pointed me to the bar to place my order. I ordered fried shrimp plate and side crab lobster bisque. The waitress helped herself to a 15 percent tip with out my approval. The audacity of her. Anyways, when we got back to our air bed-and-breakfast, everything tasted steamy and plastic heat because of the food containers it came in there was no taste to the shrimp. The coleslaw was warm. This was definitely a first in my life being served frozen oysters. We've been here many times over the years out of convenience to the house but this is definitely the last time. Sadly I would stay shy of this place if you are visiting Tybee. We went here for dinner tonight on Tuesday and found out the rooftop dining is only open on Friday & Saturday. Oh well. We sat outside. The ambiance is... interesting, especially on the ground level where we sat directly adjacent to the sidewalk and busy road. Our server was nice, and got our drink and food order pretty quick. After our food was delivered, we did not see them until it was time for the check. Ok, onto the food. The food was disappointing at best. I got the cheeseburger (granted this is a seafood place) and expected better. It tasted like a boiled burger. Like one you get in high school at the cafeteria. They asked me how I wanted it cooked as well. The fries were those scrunched up ones you get frozen from the store. Not sure if they were frozen here, but they were alright. My partner got the snow crab and said it was alright. All in all, for the price (and if you're just dining and not sitting at the bar) - I would steer clear of this place. It was alright. I was staying on Tybee and wanted to take a walk to dinner and I had driven past this place a few times. So I grabbed a book and walked over for an early-ish dinner. I got seated right away, outside. The patio seems to be dog friendly, but I do not mind be approached by dogs! Humans are hit or miss... The offerings seem to be mostly local and fresh, of course. And unfortunately I am on a bit of a budget. So the things I was going to be able to afford was going to be a lot of fried things. But hey...it is also vacation, so treat yo-self. I opted for the crab balls and the dill sauce was pretty dang good! I am not usually a big sauce person, but it definitely added to the dish. I also got an order of hush puppies, which was just a bit much as a solo diner... Service was ok and my soda remained full when asked. I was also able to get a to-go drink for my walk back to the airbnb an the evening. So basically...everything was fine. We had been here for lunch previously and it was good so we thought we would try dinner. After a short walk through the neighborhood we got right in. Outside table by the kitchen and entrance so a lot of traffic. Our waitress came up and introduced herself and ask if she could take her order we weren't ready but you went back and got us some water. About 2 minutes later a different waiter comes over introduces himself and asks us if he can take our order. Kind of confusing of who was helping us but eventually ended up with the waiter. If you want to go cocktails and a half dozen oysters which came out pretty quickly. The oysters were small that seem to be fresh. I ordered the low country boil which came with sausage shrimp potatoes and corn. My wife ordered the mahi mahi which she loved. I have had better Low Country boils the potatoes were undercooked and the shrimp was overcooked and rubbery the sausage is usually andouille sausage this just seemed like regular non-seasoned sausage we both have the same issue with our corn which was awful I don't even know if it was under or over but it was hot and really! We told our waiter and he brought back 2 others which were better but still off somehow! The service was good outside the confusion over waiter/ waitress. The atmosphere was fun A lot of energy and we got a great view of March Madness game. Maybe it was an off night for the cook but it was pretty busy. For the two of us and tip is about $120 which seems a little pricey for our low country boil $39. May try for lunch again but probably not dinner. read more

Then, they charge for a credit card. So, I gave them cash. I only got bills back. Adding the change plus the gratuity, came out to 25% tip. Why pay cash when they keep the credit card fee anyway? I couldn't win. Pay with credit card, pay a fee, pay with cash, pay a larger fee. When I spoke to the server, she said we never give change, we either round up or down.
