Tina G. hit the nail on the head. This place is one of my favorite bars, but I think you really do have to be a "regular" to reap the benefits. And yes, Steve is great. Anecdote time: Once my girlfriend and I were sitting at the bar with friends, and a professional drinker (ok, wetbrain) sat down next to us. He nursed a beer for an hour or so and then started harassing my friend for a cigarette (a no-go), then a light (ditto), and then bus fare, which my friend (a little naively) gave him. A few minutes later he asked for and was declined more money at which point he started yelling. Farraguts has a great selection of liquor and beer--including draft beer. They have two sets of taps that offer a selection ranging from Pabst Blue Ribbon to Manger's, Stella Artois to Bud Light. Service was friendly and personable. Drinks were moderately priced, although cheaper than most bars/pubs. Personally, I was looking for a bar that served Appleton's Jamaican Rum...and I found it! Clark has its share of big bars -- Hopleaf, Lady Gregorys, T's, etc. Which is good if I'm going out with a big group every once in a while. But if I'm just looking to hang out with a friend or two, I gotta go for Farraguts. Years ago I didn't think of it much when I first went, but it's grown to be one of my fave places -- a small, old school dive with great beer, a pool table, nice jukebox, chill atmosphere. Rarely crowded despite being small, a definite plus. Fifty kinds of beer, cocktails, friendly bartenders, a few regulars, pretty dark low key interior, that kind of thing. Other Andersonville bars tend to have more pronounced hipster-scenes going for them, ranging from Simon's to Hopleaf, which is fine, but this place is different. It really is just a small bar, not an especially trendy place. Mainly you've got good cheap booze all around, and I'm not talking just the Tuesday special either. So it is what it is -- an old school dive. Ordinarily I'd give it four stars, but seeing that really old one-star rants from three or four years ago are still dragging the ratings down, I thought I'd do it justice for once and up it to five as I do love the place. So next time the other Clark street bars are too crowded, try Farraguts, you'll be back, trust me! read more

This is a great neighborhood establishment that sadly I do not frequent as much as I should. Never had an issue and their beer specials are always dynamite!! Ever year for Midsomarfest this is our first stop to grab a beer and kick off the summer. We will be there again this year. read more

Ok, this three-starred review needs some explanation--as all do, I suppose. John M. and I went to Farraguts for some drinks and billiards one night. There's nothing I appreciate more than free pool, and on the contrary, there's nothing more irritating than paying upwards of $1.50 for a game. But, I digress. So, we played a couple games with Jesus (message me for pictures) and then wanted to leave. Well, being the huge Bears fan and fairly tipsy person that I was, I attempted to get the five-finger discount on the cool Bears pint glass I drank out of that night. As John and I made our getaway and got about halfway down the street, the Farraguts bartender swung the door open, yelled something, and demanded we walk the pint glass back to the bar. Needless to say it was humiliating. Probably a 4 or 5 star establishment. But I'm never showing up there again. At least, not until they hire a new bartender. read more

This area has a lot of charm, unfortunately Farraguts does not. It is very small and seating is a premium. The "bartender" is hard to find because she's often smoking out front with her euro-trash comrades. And best of all they do not accept debit or credit cards, but fail to mention this until after you order. This place is great. It's small but it has the best atmosphere. I am told it's a "queer" bar but regardless all types of people come here and everyone is extremely friendly and nice. The Bartenders Anna, Holly, Monica and Dan all have great unique personalities and are extremely friendly and engaging. You'll never find yourself feeling ignored or waiting long for top notch service. Plus they have pool, darts and a jukebox. All around great place. When many of the people who work on the long strip of bars and restaurants on Clark finish their shifts this is where they choose to go, and for good reason. read more

What you would expect.. a dive bar with a pool table and darts machine. A juke box that is going strong all night long. The prices are much more reasonable than other places you'll find in the city. I like this place, but I think if it weren't for the location, it wouldn't be much of anything. It's a great strip on Clark in Andersonville. I visit Farraguts at least once every time I visit Andersonville because it's a very quaint Irish bar with an open air of fun and friends. With a jukebox, dart board and pool table, remember to bring cash (they're a cash only bar) and grab a few friends to meet you there for a great start or end to your night. read more

Three and a half years ago I moved to Chicago. I was hanging out in Andersonville on Clark St. exploring the neighborhood. The first bar my roommate and I ended up at had us leaving angry after being ignored by a bartender, even though the bar was half empty. We headed about five doors North and wandered into Farraguts. We had been there once before, but didn't really have an opinion one way or another. The bartender was great with us. We got served right away and the drinks were cheap, cheap, cheap. Now, three years later I can say Farraguts is a great establishment, and my favorite bar in Chicago. The people are friendly, the beer is cold, and the mixed drinks are strong. If anyone is looking for a place to kick back with a few friends, I would highly recommend this spot. read more

Farragut's hosted our team for darts. It's not the best set-up for this. It seemed like a pleasant enough space and crowd for cocktail.

Just a great neighborhood "joint"..Monica is probably the best bartender in Andersonville and definitely, sometimes we'll stop in for a drink just because we see she's working. I didn't actually drink at this bar, so I can't say anything of the service, but I had a good experience with the bar itself. It was just generally comfortable. The front doors were left open and we smoked on the street while keeping an eye on our stuff at an indoor table. As last call approached staff was nice about letting us know we needed to close tabs/dip out. Very chill place. read more

I have to say I really enjoy this bar, it is never too crowded, the prices are great and the lady who is usually bartending (possibly the owner?) is friendly, fun, and pours a mean drink. The crowd is generally mixed but definitely resembles the neighborhood. Better to end a night here than to begin it but hey that totally works for me as it's only a block from my apartment. The only complaint I have is the jukebox doesn't always seem to work right and I have definitely had it eat some of money, and if people aren't paying there is no music which can be ackward. read more

Nice, old-school place in Andersonville - not too trendy, reasonably priced, comfortable. Great if you are in this 'hood.

Perhaps the cleanest bar I have ever been in. I was there on a Monday night and the bar tender dusted all the booze bottles on the back bar, then cleaned the back bar mirror. Of course it was a slow night but she was always ready to refill my drink. It gets crowded on weekend nights but so far not as crowded as Simon's. It use to be my fall back bar when Simon's was too packed but I find myself going here first more often than not. Full big windows open up on to Clark, great for watching the crowd strolling by or for the crowd to see you getting your noon beer buzz on. My only concern is once they gave me a lemon instead of a lime for my gin and tonic. Maybe they were thinking of a gin rickey, but that is not a deal breaker and easily fixed. Plus any bar named after Admiral "Damn the torpedos full speed ahead" Farragut is okay in my books. read more

Great bar, with very cheap pitchers (Leine's for $8? Awesome!) Great place to people watch, and although the jukebox is heavy on "greatest hits" it is only $1 for five plays! The awesome pictures on the wall show the bar in the 60s, when it was called the Andersonville Inn (which, I think is a much better name than the current one). Also, a great picture of Wrigley from the corner of Addison & Sheffield taken in 1915. One star, however, is taken off for the ubiqitous advertising. read more

Full disclosure: I've never been here sober. Therefore, my fond memories may be a bit biased, but Farragut's has always been a good time. It is definitely a "dive bar" but the pool table and juke box can provide hours of drunken entertainment. Also a huge plus - they have one of those computers with Photo Hunt! Love that game! Not a place to go for a special night out, but there is cheap beer and fun games so it's a-ok in my book! read more
