Most spontaneous choice and sometimes those are the best finds. Didn't try any food but ABSOLUTELY going back for it and DAT DRANK. Plus the classic ice cube was just beautiful. Great little bar to come with friends that isn't going to break your wallet! I believe the food is from the restaurant next door which is really good as well. The only thing is that you have to pay in cash for the food, but my friends and I enjoyed it a lot! Sorry I'm advanced for the pictures, the lighting was really bad. My friends and I came here after going to get mimosas but wanted to continue after our time limit was up. I suggested this place as I heard it was pretty good and I'm glad we went. Harrigans is a nice little chill spot on a very busy street. I've been in there three times and they are always very nice and greet us. The prices are good and you can order food from the restaurant that is right next to them. Don't expect to go here to party - this is where you kick back and just casually drink a beer with a buddy. read more

It is an okay neighborhood bar. My gin and tonic was fine but the lime I receive had gone bad--brown and moldy. Quite the audacity to serve that--could make someone sick. They accept cards for drinks but only cash for food. We were there around 9:00pm on a Friday night and ready over the food menu. Somewhat simple but bar food is bar food. The server saw the menu out and never asked if we wanted food. When we asked to order food she said, "we don't serve food." So why is there a food menu? I finished my drink and the serve walked by more times than I could count. When we asked to close our tab, ten minutes later we were still waiting. Lastly, it was just cramped, loud, and unfriendly. Probably won't return even though it is just around the corner. Ended up getting some great food and better service at a different bar one block away. read more

Came here last Friday night by recommendation of a friend because we were craving karaoke, and Harrigan's was serving it up all night long! From the staff, to the drinks, to the other bar patrons, this place was an absolute blast! Upon entering you're a bit thrown off because it appears to be a chill dive bar, but as soon as someone gets on the mic, this places come alive! We arrived around 9pm and the bar was only about a quarter full, but after about an hour or so, the place was full! Lucky for us we were able to get a few solid ballads in before the karaoke list because super long. Everyone in the bar was super friendly, and we were all singing along with one another. Real feel of a great community here! Also the bartenders were SO nice! I'm sure they've seen it all but the crowd was pretty rowdy this evening; however, they smiled all night and kept the drinks coming fast. I almost hesitated writing this review because I don't want to let the secret out about Harrigan's, but this place is too good not to boast about. Irish bartender would not serve me because I have an Italian last name. "We don't serve your kind here" was the response I received when I asked why he wouldn't serve me. I came from New York to visit some friends from college, I've worked in food/drink service before and would never disrespect a worker. I ordered a drink upon arrival, received it, and waited quietly when I was ready to order another. The bartender who had swiped my debit card earlier did not approach me. A waitress noticed I was waiting, approached me, and asked what I wanted. I told her, and she brought my card to the Irish bartender, who then slapped it in front of me and told me I had to leave. When I asked why, I got the response of "we don't serve your kind here". My friends started to argue with him as he took out his phone and tried to take a photo of me for some reason. LOVE Harrigans! Last night was super busy being 4th of July and the bartender, I think her name is Ali, was super attentive and fast! She made amazing drinks and held down the bar being the only one there on a holiday which is crazy but she did amazing, hats off to her. Harrigans is an cute hole in the wall with great drink prices and good vibes. The guy who left a review about being the only POC there is bogus because I was there and there were all kinds of people. Stopped in here for a drink after dinner. Pretty cool decorations, bar tender was nice. It was early and we were 2 of 6 people in there. Bartender says it livens up around midnight and that's when the karaoke starts and I guess it gets packed. Drink prices were around average for the area. read more

A few friends and I came here to celebrate the annual Pride Parade! The owners are authentically Irish and are hilarious! I loved that they had a mic and were narrating the parade from the window. It was entertaining to us as well as all the participants on the floats. The "MC" (or, being Irish, should I say McMC?) was super clever and had true comedic talents. They were very warm and friendly and we felt very welcomed. It was a good time, and I can see why my friends had recommended this place and considered it there "go to" place for pride every year. I have visited this bar twice now - once for a friend's birthday and once more recently for a football game. Both times the bar has been close to empty. Which, depending on what you're looking for, might be a good thing. It was a great thing this past weekend when other bars were too fulldue to football game because we got great attention from the bartender and he also invited us to play Wii! Is Wii the new darts or what? This is not the first time I've encountered video games set up at a bar. I enjoyed it quite a bit and it really opened things up to meet the other folks at the bar. Drink specials were good and the menu is from the restaurant next door. I sampled their burger and the french onion soup which was delicious. Food: This place is a great way to get select cut's delicious food, with "bar like" prices. You have to try the ribeye steak sandwich. Fatty and yummy delivered on garlic bread. It was hot this Sunday and I was making a blitz to get soccer gear, a Father's Day gift, while trying to get out in time to watch the Cubs avoid the sweep against the Angels and then World Cup Match. Beads of sweat were falling from my head and I had to stop for some pop at the local Dunkin' Donuts down the street. As the bus was approaching, I realized, "Hey! There is a bar down the street with some TVs, I should go check it out!" Checked it out I did, having gone to Harrigan's before I knew that it had the trappings of a sports bar. Cool Irish currency was lodged all over the bar with a fine layer of coating covered it all. Overhead were two Irish flags and in the corner my heart stood still and I damn near lost it: CORK dartboard ! ! ! ! There were a couple of people in the bar and I gave them fair warning: I was going to blow my vuvuzela! The buzzing filled the bar and we all had a laugh at it. On TV were the Cubs annihilating the Angels while Brazil was sticking it to Ivory Coast. Beers were flowing and I took my spot at the dartboard which was worn but still had more mileage in it. There wasn't any chalk to play with, but I didn't mind whatsoever. By the darts was a Wii that people could play with, Golden Tee in the back and an electronic juke. The bartender was congenial and offered up a menu that featured food from the restaurant next door. Apparently the buffalo chicken sandwich is not on the menu, but they will make you one if you ask nicely. The menu was reasonably priced and affordable, but I wasn't too hungry and contented myself to play darts. I ended up spending far too much time here, but can't say I regret it. Sons of bitches were closed on Memorial Day, and I'm about 94% sure the trivia is rigged (against me). That being said, this is just a happy place to hang out at, it's one of the few bars in town I have been to where (knock on wood) there never seems to be any drama. Good prices, good drinks, good drink selection, good staff, good tv-to-wall ratio, the jukebox has issues at times, I haven't tried the food (wherever it comes from), but it looks good, and I can't think of anywhere else in town where I can find out exactly how many days, hours, minutes, and seconds it's going to be until they dye the river funny colors. But seriously, you can order food from next door (cash only for that), but I always got the Curry Fries and they are delicious. If you've never had them, get them. If you have had some, these will be similar to what you find over the pond in Ireland. They have all types of Whiskey for those who need a liquid jacket. Tuesday evenings theres traditional Irish music in the back, was here only once for this but it's definitely worth hearing. So I really wanted to belong to an Irish pub that was closer to home than my usual River North haunts and I discovered this place. Irish bartenders and a fun atmosphere brings in a good crowd. The food comes from the neighboring steak place, which is awesome, and beers are as expected. The Guinness is a sloppy pour and the rest of the beers are often foamy, from what I could see, but hey, that's part of the charm, right? Great music is always playing and they often have live bands and theme nights. And if it's your birthday, they have a blow up sheep, I think. Sometimes they let girls dance on the bar- girls who should not be dancing on a bar- so that's kinda yuck. So yeah, I really wanted this to be one of my go to places, but I have to admit that I haven't been back since a certain stunning bartender quit. Ah well. read more

An awesome low key Irish pub - my kind of place. The staff is super awesome and even when crowded they take note of you and come help as soon as they can - never seem put out. In the recent months they've had all sorts of activities like a bus to a game at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Pumpkin Carving for Halloween, a Bus to a haunted house for Halloween, Chilli Cookoff, NYE disco party, and even a Festivus for the Restuvus. Monday nights: Open Mic are always good for experimental fun Wednesday Nights: Trivia hosted by Reed (one of the bartenders) - a GREAT trivia and only $5. Some of my favorite nights are just the Saturday that the bar is low key and fun. So it went down like this. . . At first, Harrigan's was a money find. Sunday Night Karaoke, dive-bar, good jukebox, not too packed. Loved it, frequented it, didn't even mind if one of the bartenders flirted a little too much with my buddies and me (hey free drinks? Sign me up). And then my friends, it turned ugly. . . I was in this packed bar one night a nightmare ensued. All at once I found myself in a small, packed, smoky bar which = prime target for wallet snatchers. Someone snatched my wallet right out of my purse on my shoulder! Then they used all my credit cards by the next morning! I caught them on camera at the Jewel in Oak Lawn! Ahhhhh! So thinking I would give Harrigan's the benefit of the doubt, I went back again. I mean, they didn't steal my wallet that night, right? Well, on the night of my return, a magical hole appeared in my new purse and my keys dropped out! What? Luck of the Irish? I think not. So my two stars are for the few good times I once had (sniff, sniff). But packed smoky chaos will not bring me back. This bar is a good luck sponge and I was its victim! read more

I love to find neighborhood bars and grills where everybody is friendly and not all dressed up with a stick up their behind, especially I this gentrified area where many of the locals seem to be all hoity-toity and would rather get a $20 cocktail at some upscale establishment that makes drinks so sweet and acidic that they make me want to puke. I would rather get a cold beer for a couple bucks in a dim neighborhood bar with several TVs for sports and some good music in the background. Harrigan's is one of those awesome neighborhood places. Inside is a nice dark and cozy place to have a couple drinks and socialize with friends and the food is really awesome and the prices are great. I love the beautiful original wood bar, original ceilings, brick walls, and hard wood floors as old as the building which they probably spent some money to restore and keep the original feel of the place. I believe the bar was open for business right after prohibition ended. So many bars in the city tear out all of that old beautiful interior, put in drop ceilings, try to make everything modern and instead they set up a trendy little bar, sink a bunch of money into it, get a few people from the area to visit, but there is nothing like a good neighborhood watering hole that makes you feel like you have a second home. Those trendy bars usually end up going belly up within a year or two because lets face it, everybody likes a bar where "everybody knows your name". I was in a wheelchair for my visit at Harrigan's and the bartender was extremely helpful in getting me in the door which had a bit of a steep slope but it's an old building and I have a really old wheelchair with crappy traction and dried out rubber wheels. I got comfortable on a bar chair and some patrons were kind enough to help exit the building without face-planting myself on the sidewalk. For the record, this place is absolutely handicap accessible and the bartenders are extremely accommodating. Hopefully I will finish my rehab and get walking again and return for a couple beers and some baseball or football games. Also love the "Harrigan's Hooligans" T-shirts the bartenders wear and they sell for $20. There is a picture of a skull with an Irish flat cap that obviously says "Harrigan's Hooligans" and would be awesome to wear for St. Patrick's Day or Halloween. I'm a T-shirt guy, my wife says I go through them like toilet paper, but I like cool T-shirts and they definitely have one. I don't remember the bartender's name but he had an awesome handlebar mustache and was a super nice guy. Went to Harrigan's with a large group on a Friday night. It's a small, rather intimate Irish pub on Halsted that's rocking karaoke on the weekends. Thankfully it wasn't too crowded that night so you had plenty of room to move around and rock out to some great (and not so great...) singing. What struck me more than anything was just how incredibly friendly the bar staff was! The guys at the bar were super attentive and happy to take your order and the guy checking IDs was shooting the shit with us while some of our friends were singing up front. They really made me feel welcome at the bar! They also take a ton of pictures of the people singing and post them immediately on their facebook page, which is hilarious. Just stopped in today after getting a tattoo, and looked for an appealing bar close by to kill time. I saw Harrigan's, and like what I saw online and figured it was worth the trip. After coming in, it's easily one of my favorite bars. Mickey (sorry if my spelling is off) was in briefly preparing for a private party for New Years and was a funny and courteous guy. Pat took care of all of us, and is an awesome bartender and guy overall. I've been to many bars across the states and overseas, and it's easily one of my favorites. Great customer service, high self-standards and a wonderful atmosphere. Plus, from someone with bad hearing, here is wonderful as I can carry on a conversation AND hear the wonderful soundtracks that get put on. This place has gone downhill in the last few years. The owner is an extremely unpleasant Irish fellow who is way too loud and opinionated for my taste. Last time I was in I, actually, threw down a $10 half way through my second beer and walked out I was so over this place. There are plenty of better bars, in the area: Trinity, Paddy Longs, Galway Bay, Hidden Shamrock...or buying a bottle of V.O. and drinking it in a private garbage can. read more
