Came here to check…read moreit out as the pedestrian bridge over the river had been closed for repairs last week and wanted to see how things looked. This trail is wide, clean and well-maintained. While we were there, we saw lots of walkers and people with dogs. There are a lot of rules and they are laid out by signs as the entrances. It does seem odd that they request no running or biking on the trail as it seems like those activities wouldn't be an issue but for now, it looks like it's just for walking. We followed it about a mile up and then turned around and came back. We could have gone further. Next time we might head south towards Brookfield. I really enjoyed using this trail. One note, the parking lot off Silvermine Road near the police department is small but if you go up to Pocono Road and take a right, there's a big municipal lot there and you can access the trail behind the soccer fields.

A true Stacey, she arbitrarily directed me to lead my tour on shady trails, where edible wild plants, which need sunlight, don't grow. My 13-year-old foraging expert daughter scouted out the shady trails in advance and verified this. Feeling responsible to the participants, I led the tour in sunny places, where we found plenty of plants, despite Currier's arbitrary and wrong-headed objections. Nevertheless, Currier hired me and my daughter to lead a mushroom weekend in 2017. She signed a contract, including a statement that if she canceled the event, we'd be paid in full. Then, when it was way too late for me to schedule other events, she pulled the rug out for under me, canceled our event, and hired someone else to do the mushroom weekend, despite the signed contract, causing us to lose a much-needed weekend of work. When I tried to contact her dad, Tim Currier, the owner, with whom I'd been acquainted since 2008, he showed his true colors and ghosted me. Through a laborious process, I took the farm to small claims court. The trial occurred remotely during the Covid lock-down. No one from the farm showed. I won, and they had to pay me after all. Be warned: These people are crooks, and will skunk you if they can get away with it.

All I saw was nice green and yellow leafs everywhere I loved the colors especially with how sunny and bright the day was. They had this really cool bridge you can look around on and check out the water. The bridge did have some gaps in the center so hope no one drops anything as you definitely won't be getting it back. Besides that though the bridge was very stable. There was also signs of information/history about the park too if you like to read about that stuff. It looked like there were a few paths you can take to walk around doesn't seem like you could get lost easy. There was this one cool path where you can see nothing but yellow leafs around you on the path and it looked so cool. I also found this really old hut looked interesting too. Just watch your step but otherwise I didn't see any difficult paths. I would definitely come back to this park when I come back to visit again.

The trails are pretty shady and there are areas that get hit by the sun. It's a nice mix for a hot day to get a little bit of shade, breeze and sun! I love the butterfly conservatory area that has many plants that attract them. You'll easily spot butterflies and moths and beautiful bees pollinating and doing their thing. This is an oasis right in the heart of Carmel, NY. It is about a two hour hike if you're willing to…read morewalk the entire trail. The pond is beautiful and there are picnic tables so bring some lunch. The trail can be very muddy so make sure a week of rain-free weather has elapsed. There are some very steep slopes so avoid icy trails. Parking at the entrance is good for about six cars at most. You might have to park at the high school if the parking area is full. It rarely is though, which means you are likely to be one of few enjoying this wonderful nature preserve. Read about the history of the preserve before you go. It was once a horse racing site and look for the massive stone blocks that held up what was once a railroad bridge. In the winter, with the leaves fallen, you can see the new Putnam County courthouse in the distance, and unfortunately, hear the Route 52 traffic too. You won't be disappointed though. This is worth the the trip.

Putnam Park is one of my favorite parks in the area. The history and the scenery just do it for me…read more It's especially gorgeous during the Autumn months. The main trail is paved and easy for anyone to walk. There are also a ton of historical landmarks within the park grounds. Along with being the oldest state park in the Connecticut, Putnam Park is also designated as the first State Archaeological Preserve. It was the site of the winter encampment of the troops under General Israel Putnam (for whom the park is named). There are regular Revolutionary War reenactments hosted by The Friends and Neighbors of Putnam Park. Putnam Park is a nice quiet place on the Bethel/Redding line. I am very grateful to those who pushed to reopen it.

Beautiful visitor center and fascinating ride on our mountain bikes through the park. Arrived at the door of the adorable 1921 stone museum building and it was like Wally World in the movie vacation! CLOSED!!!!!! . Soooo disappointed! It's the main attraction! Omg! I couldn't believe it! Website did not mention anything about being closed other than a few days in a June!!!! . I would have given them five stars but when the museum is closed???? Not nice for visitors traveling a long way to see artifacts from the park. My advice is to call first. Apparently they don't feel it necessary to post on their website.
