I read some of the other less than positive reviews, so I wanted to add my own very positive review! My cousin and I were on the way back to NH pulling a boat when a wheel came completely off my trailer. I asked in the area for someone who could repair it. Three tire shops all suggested I go to "Fat Cat" to see "Big Jim." They said he was the best trailer mechanic in Florida which I later found out he was. I was looking at a 7day wait, Jim couldn't get to my job for a week. Now I was looking at paying for hotels, meals, and the cost of the trailer repair. My cousin and I spoke with Jim a couple days later at his shop regarding the time frame and the work to be done. The trailer needed a new tire, rim, axle, as well as all four tires needing bearings and the trailer needing welding work. Jim called me that evening and told us we could pick up the trailer the next day, shortening our stay by 6 days!! Jim was very accommodating, friendly, and invited us back to his home for a barbecue next time we were in the area. Jim, as well as all the businesses surrounding him, were very good to us. I needed a axle, bearings, Springs, spindles and hubs for my boat trailer. Met Jim right off the bat he greeted me with a hand shake and "What Can I do for you sir". Great Vibes in his business right off the bat. To make a long story; He did not have the 2X3" tubing needed for my trailer but immediately got on the phone to find it. Once he found it he asked all the questions that I would ask and the company could do the work but would charge me over $400 for the axle and spindles to bet welded on. Jim said "You go get it and we will take care of you". And that he did, I brought axle stock back he completed the fabrication and I got all new axle, spindles, springs and complete hardware replacement for less than $300. I needed a broken fuel line welded onto the metal lid of a fuel tank. Jim did the job well, charged a very fair price, and treated me well. The broken line I brought to him was nearly rotted through so there wasn't much to weld against. Jim at first said it probably couldn't be done and then offered to try for his normal welding rate whether it held or not. I said I'd take the chance and go ahead. He called a couple of days later and said it didn't hold, but the lid was good metal so maybe I could bring a good piece of steel fuel line and he could probably weld that. I brought the fuel line, he welded it successfully, and then only asked for payment for one weld job. I offered to pay for two because that's what I agreed to and he settled for a little less than the total would have been. Don't be intimidated, he's a good man. read more

I have never met a greater guy sure he looks rough but hes nothing but a down to earth guy, I brought my trailer axle to him and without a hitch he told me he take care of it and make it better than it was before, sure enough this was a man of his word sure it was quick and all we have now for the leaf springs, I have to say I would always bring my work to him,because he stands behind his work, if you want a cheap china made trailer go to harbor freight but if you want a good trailer repair go to Fat Cat Trailer repair off of beach. Jim may get back logged due to some of the suppliers but its no fault on his as its the best workmanship I have seen. read more

I was referred to " fat cat trailer" by JAX AUTO MART and the owner Jim played to BE RELIGIOUS HE "fixed" the electric for the trailer. well as I got home the trailer fell into pieces one by one the electric worked just for a minute... I took it for a drive the next day, that's when I notice some short circuit. then he refused to work on my trailer. He kept asking for more and more money. They are crooks do not purchase anything from them. read more

I read the negative reviews, but personally have never had a bad experience there. Have purchased several parts that are higher in quality and less expensive than the "big stores". I'd rather support the local business anyway. Jim even gave me a part he had sitting around for free. I've been searching for this part for weeks. Nothing big, but I appreciated his generosity. I needed two trailer tires to sell my boat one night, and called Fat Cat Trailer just minutes before they closed. The owner (Jim) said no worries, and kept the shop open late so I could get the tires I needed. He tells some hilarious stories, and is honest as the day is long. first I would like to say that the owner is a liar. he tells you what you want to hear then doesn't do the job correctly. the price is low but as you leave the price goes up.
