I had wanted to try this place ever since I first passed by, but they were closed. I finally made it in and was delighted to find a wide array of baked goods laid out on display. The staff was super friendly and greeted me immediately upon entering. I ordered the biscochito raspberry bar because it sounded like a unique combination. The bar was good, but I found that the flavors didn't quite work for me, and my wife agreed. That said, we'd totally be willing to try something else here because everything looked so good! I also ordered an iced Americano, which was too weak for my taste, and I ended up adding another shot of espresso when I got home. This wasn't too disappointing since you can't always expect amazing coffee from a bakery. The place itself is decorated well and felt cozy. They might consider opening up the space a little more. Overall, it was a good experience, and I will definitely be back to try other baked goods. read more

I also purchased the Mexican chocolate the Korean pepper roll and the green chili . I will taste those later. Roughly $4.95 each. The Mexican chocolate cinnamon roll is exquisite. The flavor is death row last meal request level. The vanilla and chocolate are memorable. Fat City is a small bakery located off of Eubank inside one of the plazas. It's a little tucked away but easy to find. They have some really good treats, including the raspberry biscochito bars, gold bars, and a lemon cheesecake bar with pistachio crust. I will say the lemon cheesecake was an absolute favorite. I had the following: - Gouda Green Chile Croissant - Pistachio White Chocolate Cookie - Chocolate Chile Cookie - Biscochito Sandwich Cookie The croissant itself wasn't fantastic, but I did appreciate the unique flavors from the cheese and chiles...it was nice to have something savory and different. The pistachio cookie was fantastic and my favorite item from the bakery - soft, buttery and full of lovely pistachios. The chocolate chile cookie was my least favorite item - it didn't have much chocolate flavor. I really liked their versions of the biscochito - this was a sandwich cookie, with generous buttercream in the center; the buttercream cream was a bit much for me, but I really enjoyed the cookie portion - perfectly sweet and full of that great anise flavor. I saw an ad for this place on Facebook and saw that they had Green Chile croissants which I thought was interesting so I decided to give it a try. I ordered on their website two of the croissants and a brownie. They have a ton of different baked goodies on their site. Their Facebook is a great place too as they show their cakes and sometimes give away free cakes! The offer curbside pickup which was super easy to follow, they text you when the order is ready! They are absolutely delicious and melt in your mouth! The green chile wasn't heavy, but just the right amount. The brownie was also very yummy! Such a splendid place! They have so much variety to their sweets - from danishes to muffins to cookies to other fantastic treats . My absolute favorite thing to get is the raspberry biscochito bar- it has the perfect ratio of raspberry to biscochito! We tried some of their seasonal drinks and those were tasty as well. I got the London Fog with prickly pear and it was very unique. The shop itself is awesome too. They have local art everywhere for sale! Everytime we come here the people working are super friendly! We found this place by googling "ABQ dessert." The name was all I needed to want to stop by. I didn't know I needed a Vegan biscochito sandwich until today. Wow! I enjoyed it very much, it was soft and buttery. I also had fun chatting with the server about my biscochito fails since I moved to ABQ. My other vice is cheesecake. Let me tell you, the lemon was PHENOMENAL! I tried the chocolate too, but I'm not a chocolate fan. The crust was perfect! I also tried the peach iced tea. It was literally like drinking a peach! Other than the taste, what I love most is the local support. The local artist wall showcased amazing work and all of their ingredients are locally sourced AND the packaging and utensils are environmentally friendly. "We do fudgy brownies." Are you kidding me? (I ordered, like, six of 'em. They threw in a bulk discount -- nice!) Okay with fudgy? Do you prefer your pizza cheesy? Your ice cream cold? Your sushi fishy? This is a no-brainer, lady. Please bring the fudge. They did. These were delicious brownies. Also, a brother/sister team run this place. I think that's adorable. read more

Top Line: I've snatched a quick breakfast and treats a few times from Keith at Fat City Treats. While every word of his business's name is gospel true, it's just too many words for an old guy to remember. Let's just call it FCT for short. FCT is in strip mall on southeast corner of Eubank & Spain Rd, along with Heights True Value Hardware, Home Decor store, etc. FCT is located just left of The Barley Room. Look for umbrellas & tables at east edge of parking lot. Keith's door is hidden behind them. The hallmark quality of FCT products is highly imaginative natural ingredients. Keith jockeys & dances herbal & fruital tastes in, out, and around his baked goodies. You'll find flavor combos at FCT that nobody else is vendoring. His blue corn pancakes were robustly filling while eschewing the typical pancake hyper sweet taste for an earthy toasted cornmeal flavor. The provided butter & 100% natural maple syrup balanced it out nicely. Three not terribly big cakes were dense enough to make a meal nonetheless. A little package of cashew green chile brittle from the counter had good sweet taste & okay on the cashew texture showing up. However, I didn't detect a lot of the namesake green chile flavor getting through. I picked up a biscochito bar with raspberry filling and an asiago cheese & rosemary "bun" that was actually croissant dough wrapped up into the shape of a burger bun. The biscochito bar had a distinct anise flavor, as expected, but not a lot of other spice flavors joining the party. The raspberry filling added a bit of sweetness. The bar texture was dense, tender fine crumb that was pretty moist with butter flavor. The asiago rosemary bun has a bit of a story. Due to food rotation, it didn't escape Keith's to-go box for a week after I brought it home. Even after all that time it still had rich mouthwatering flavor and had plenty of moist chewy interior texture. The large amount of butter that making croissants demands (and Keith had used) had maintained the bread against drying out and left it in surprisingly good shape & taste. Besides the butteriness, the asiago cheese spoke up in soft diffuse tones and the rosemary provided intermittent subtle hits of herbiness. This would have been a great platform for a ham & swiss or roasted veggies sandwich (think hearty flavors like mustard crusted kaboucha squash or sun-dried tomato/kalamata olive tapenade). FCT cookies come in at the $2 price point, about the same as other eateries around town. I've tried a few of his flavor options. I found the vegan oatmeal pretty bland & drier than the others. The blue corn chipotle was okay, but short on chipotle bite for my preferences. The ancho chocolate had good choco flavor & moistness. But again I was hoping for more chile zing than I found. FCT's brownie was way good!! Very moist, dense, fudgy center under a nice thin crusty top. Exquisite! So stop in and see if you find FCT to be one of your hidden gem eateries. I had the croissant roll and a danish, and both were very dry and super sugary without much natural flavor. The croissant roll was stale and pretty hard to bite into - not sure if it's meant to be crispy but instead it was just hard, and there were no moist, soft parts of it that you'd expect from a croissant. The danish pastry was also very bland, with a syrupy-tasting frosting on top. Was pretty disappointed given all the good reviews. read more

What a hidden gem in the northeast heights of ABQ! Everything is made fresh daily and they specifically use locally sourced ingredients in their menu items. Pastries, cheesecakes, cookies, sweets, savories... ALL amazing. My favorite is the tomato jam puff pastry. So fresh and the pastry is perfectly flaky... the tomato jam is the BEST and you cannot beat the sweet and savory combo. My second favorite item is the Gold Bar. I have tried MANY gold bars throughout bake shops in the city and this is by far the best! Again, so fresh. I have a difficult schedule and have been missing the open hours at Fat City for a very long time. I arrive today after closing hours, but flagged down the employees who are closing the store. I asked if there was any chance I could get some of their Biscochito Bars, and they made an exception for me! I asked for three, and they were kind enough to give me a surprise fourth one free and a discount off the retail price. Amazing! This is one of the best desserts I've ever had, and a unique take on a New Mexican favorite cookie. I have been craving these bars for so long, and it was even tastier than I remembered. We arrived around 1:30 p.m., but the café was closed. We couldn't tell whether it was closed for good, closed on Mondays, or only open in the morning. It looked like it was closed for good.The hours are not posted, at least not anywhere that we could see. Even if they are still in business, I'm not sure whether or not we'll try again. Whaaaat?! How has this place not been reviewed yet? I work next door to this cute little bakery and my coworkers are always bringing delectable looking treats in. My boyfriend surprised me yesterday with a Strawberry Rhubarb Cookie and a White Chocolate Pistachio Cookie from here. The pistachios were a nice twist in place of the traditional macadamia nuts. The strawberry rhubarb cookie got better with every bite and I'm seriously regretting sharing it with my boyfriend. I've also sampled a deliciously decadent, rich caramel pretzel brownie and some sort of pistachio croissant-muffin which was delicately tasty and reminded me of something I've had at a local farmers market. The location is well hidden and it took a couple weeks before I even noticed it was there. It's tucked into a little corner of The Promenade strip mall next to The Barley Room. I urge anyone who loves unique confections to try this place out. Also, this is a plea for help because if you don't buy goodies from here, I will. We stumbled across this bakery recently and have since fallen in love. It's a little hard to see when driving but it's right next door to the Barley Room.
