This place never disappoints. I have been there several times and gotten the loaded tater tots and the pulled pork sandwich. The staff is always great and so is the food. Great burgers!! Moved my daughter into her dorm and we were all starving as we burned what seemed to be thousands of calories, doing so on a near 90 degree day. Before moving in my daughter and wife said "we should get salads for lunch," but afterwards, they're like "salads not going to cut it." Not from Bloomington we just started looking at places, menus, ratings and found Dan's. So glad we did as one of the best burgers we've ever had. Can't recall the names, but wife and daughter had these double flat or smashed burgers and I had a classic double cheese. My son had the Maxwell street Polish. All thumbs up. Brunch places were too busy so we ended up here for lunch on Labor Day. Very friendly staff, large restaurant, not crowded. Sports bar atmosphere, but family friendly at lunchtime. We loved the dirty tots appetizer. The sandwiches were good to great -- the Reuben had huge slabs of corned beef; the Wake and Bake burger was excellent; I had a Flat Daniel that was very good but not amazing; the Frenchie was underwhelming. I have never in 59 years been treated so badly by "Kelly" if that is her real name. Seriously, she was mad because we seated our self at a dirty table. I couldn't imagine having a worse scenario owning a restaurant. Having good food but not able to get it to people. The place wasn't even busy. Takes forever to get menu, then to order, the food comes in a reasonable time but if you need a refill or a condiment or napkins or anything just eat your food and forget it it's not happening. Our order wasn't right, forgot drink and fries but not the end of the world but when you add it all up it's rather frustrating. The manager could tell something was off he come over and give a commendable effort in trying to right the ship. Before he came over we weren't coming back. He saw that my cup was dry, not empty, but dry and said that's unacceptable more so than the messed up order. That poor guy has his work cut out for him. He gets his help lined out that place will do just fine. I'll let some time pass and give it another go but if I had to choose the dentist or Fat Dan's tomorrow I'm not sure which I would choose? read more

If you're looking for Chicago style food do your self a favor and just take that 3 hour trip because you will be egregiously disappointed. I just ordered a ghost burger, wings and dirty tots. Unfortunately when I got to the restaurant they didn't have the tots made and the bar tender didn't know what I was talking about. So I ordered it again at full price because they were too stingy to give them to me with discount for the inconvenience. When I got home to eat my food I was furious to find out that they gave me regular clean tots instead of the dirty ones. Not only did they mess the tots up twice, but when my girlfriend took a bite of her burger she was disgusted to see raw meat. I was expecting a nice Chicago style meal to remind me of home but instead we're going to sleep hungry and disappointed. Would not recommend. Finally got around to going here. I got the Cubano. My husband got the pastrami and corned beef. We weren't sure if the sandwiches came with a side or anything because the menu didn't say. So we also ordered a small a la cart tater tot and fries. Well, it turned out that the sandwiches come with chips (FYI). My sandwich was good. Only critique was that the bread was a little soggy, but that might be because we got carry out. The small a la cart tater tot was HUGE. Easily enough for two or even three people. I had a pretty terrible experience with Fat Dans last Monday night. My group of 8 arrived around 9pm (closing time was 10pm). We were seated by this man named Alexander( refers to himself as Al). At first all went smooth (we all ordered burgers and 2 large fries). I then went to the bar to order a beer. When the food came out my burger was missing so I went over to Al and confronted him about it. He said that he mistakenly forgot to order my burger and he would allow me to have my beer for free, since the kitchen was closed. When I went back to sit down my friends realized that Al only served us 1 large fry instead of 2. When Al came to check up on us I told him that we didn't receive not only our large fry but my burger as-well. He proceeded to aggressively snatch the "free" beer he just granted me from the table right in front of my eyes. Al then demanded that I leave this establishment and accused me of calling him an asshole when that word never left my mouth. Al realizing his mistakes requested that my friends, all 8 of us, were to pay the bill (implying that we weren't). Pretty shitty experience fat Dans :( read more

Went to Fat Dan's Deli and got the Italian Beef Wet. My SO got the Burger with the teriyaki sauce, Swiss, and mushrooms. Pretty solid burger. The dirty tots were fantastic and even better the next morning with a cracked egg on top heated up in the oven. Service was okay! After reading some of the other reviews on here I was expecting the worst but honestly it's a wing and burger joint if you're expecting 5 star service you're going to the wrong restaurant. read more

Came here on a Friday night dinner and it seemed to be averagely busy. After sitting down, had to wait 10+ minutes to be seen by a server to order drinks. After our meal, had to go to the bar to request our check after waiting a good amount of time.. the food was average but I was slightly distracted from our wobbly table moving after every bite and too loud music.
