The Headwiches are ok. They were out of banana peppers, and wouldn't serve the double d without the peppers. Bummer! So me and my son got a similar sandwich - sliced steak with veggies and cheese. I got mine topped with a fried egg...which makes just about any plate better. We also got a few pints of beer. Overall, I would say it's about the ambiance and a place for good bar food. We hadn't been to Fat Heads in some time. This place is really good though. It has a fairly central location in Pittsburgh's Southside section. It has some decent seating sections and a nice bar. The food is really good. Our group has a mix of salads, wings, and of course their huge Head which, sandwiches. The beer line is really good also. It turns out Primanti's isn't the only popular Pittsburgh spot for giant sandwiches! I got the bourbon blue burger which was pretty decent (as far as bar burgers go) and a huge portion. The fries were also thin, crispy, & salty (which is how I like them). As a group, we started with the shroomies appetizer (essentially, fried mushrooms with a horseradish sauce). While nothing fancy, they were quite good! And again, an absolutely giant portion. Where I will say Fatheads is lacking is in the service. They weren't very busy, but the waitress still completely forgot about our drink order for over thirty minutes and food took a while to come out. Despite that, I felt very rushed with my meal (I only had finished about half my burger & a third of my beer when the waitress came around trying to give us boxes), which is an extreme pet peeve of mine when dining out. The highlight for me was that they randomly had the Westminster Dog Show on TV (anyone who knows me personally will know I love watching that!). Overall, it's fine bar food with a decent beer list (all at a reasonable price) but bad service. I would maybe go back and sit at the bar for apps/drinks vs relying on wait staff, but I think there are definitely better options in Pittsburgh for similar food. Great local brewery with some good beer and great food. We found them via Yelp and joined the waitlist at 4:36pm. At that time, the waitlist said it would be about 44-57min before we were seated. We were across town so weren't worried about it. We got there around 5:12pm and checked in. We were told we would get a message when our table was ready. We were able to sit and waited. Normally we would have gone to the bar to wait but there was no room up there as it was after a early hockey game at PPG arena so the place was packed!! We were not seated until closer to 6:10pm and i'm glad I kept an eye on the waitlist as when were showed as fist, we never got a message or call saying we were up. When I went up and asked about it, the seater asked if I had checked in when we arrived (which I confirmed we had an hour ago when we first arrived). We were sat immediately after in a room behind the bar area. The menu that yelp showed was not accurate compared to what was given to us. Far more options available then when you just look at the menu online. We opted for the Cajun ranch rubbed fried wings and an order of the Pierogies. The wings were crispy goodness and a nice great with the Cajun spice. The pierogies were good, but cooler, temp wise, then I anticipated. We tried a few beers, the red ale known as Little red rooster, the brumble berry (heavy blueberry brew) and the crumble berry (Notes of Madagascar bourbon vanilla and cinnamon). All were very tasty. Don't get this salad if you're counting calories it's got cheesy French fries on it I ordered takeout so it wasn't as fresh when I got to eat it so I'm sure I'd give 5 stars if I ordered and ate at the restaurant. (Prefacing this review with the fact that I don't drink beer so my rating is not from the beer) When I came to Fat Heads I didn't realize that it was trivia night but luckily we still got a seat. The guy at the hostess stand informed us that there was a limited menu for the night because it was trivia night. It wasn't too busy. I was going to get a glass of wine but by the menu description I think it was in a can? I wasn't too sure about this so I ordered an Aperol spritz instead. I was pleasantly surprised; it was actually really good!! I would order the Aperol spritz again from Fat Heads. For my meal I ordered the build your own flatbread. They had a flat rate for the flatbread with cheese and sauce, but then anything you wanted to add was an extra dollar or more. For the sauces, they had a lot but non of them had any description (50% were just random names so I couldn't even guess). I felt bad but I had to ask the waitress what each sauce was. Luckily she was great and explained them all to me. Unfortunately tho they didn't have any sauce that resembled a pizza sauce or a tomato based sauce... which is what I kind of expected for a flatbread. I ended up getting this sauce that was like a honey mustard and bbq sauce. The sauce was good but just tasted so strange on flatbread. Also, the crust was kind of burnt so it was a little hard to eat. I probably won't be back for dinner, I think this is more of a casual bar to drink with friends and get some bar food snacks if you're hungry. Not really a sit down dinner spot. read more

Father day dinner ruined??? Not completely.... But honestly what an awful experience, I hate to come on here talking bad about any establishments but this definitely warrants it. Let me start at the beginning, upon arriving reception was kind and friendly and we were seated. It took initially about 15 mins for our server to come over and introduce herself and get our drink orders. Now mind you it's about 5:30pm on a Thursday w/ minimal foot traffic, so this was a sign of worse things to come. As the evening proceeded, appetizers were served (not pictured) but were over cooked and slightly dry. These kept our minds off the main courses for a little but eventually we began to wonder if our food was coming. At 6:32 almost an hour later from arriving, our waitress approached the table and asked if we wanted our check without having received our meals. We cleared up the goofy miscommunication and about 25 mins later our food showed up. BUT was missing a meal... one of our burgers came out about 15 mins late and everyone had almost finished their meals @ that time. As for the food, the burgers were good (alrough they did have onions that were specifically not ordered). the chicken sandwich and Italian sandwich were not very flavorful and extremely salty. Everyone's waters remained empty throughout the evening it's like our waitress just wanted to do the bare minimum. Even after giving the check to us she took 20 mins to come back and take the check. We ended up being there for just under 2 hours and not by choice! Again i emphasize that the restaurant was not busy and I wouldn't bash fatheads without a good reason. This is my dad's favorite place to have beer lol I've always expected better from them ! I ain't wanna be a complainer or a nitpicker but I definitely had to say something. Really excited to try this place again! The menu is huge- a TON of sandwiches and "headwiches" it's overwhelming! But a great selection. My headwich had smoked brisket, pastrami, spicy kraut, pickles, and garlic aoli. It was so spicy! I wasn't expecting it from a sandwich. Love spicy food but it was a bit too hot for me. We use to go here for years. We moved to Columbus Ohio in 2019 and decided to drive 3 1/2 hours to our once favorite place for lunch. Sadly it's not the same AT ALL! We were so disappointed. First the menu is a fraction of the old. They don't serve any of the old burgers only a couple smash burgers. The fresh cut fry's , fried mushrooms all gone. We had a mushroom Swiss smash burger. It was not bad but they out a ton of arugula on it. We also ordered the pierogies and potato skins they were way over cooked and cold. The potatoe skins looked like they made them two days ago and heated them up in the broiler. The cheese was hard and over cooked yet cold. The waitress was ok but she was not friendly. She did mention the place had downsized the menu dramatically in the past months. This was a place in the past that you had to wait for an hour to get in because it was so popular. Now half the dining area is blocked off because they are so dead. It's very sad to see a one time staple to the community fall apart. read more

Okay, but not great. The pretzel is really not that "giant" of a pretzel. See my hand for scale. It has a little bit of a different taste to it, more of a taste of pretzels you buy in a bag than the bread taste of a soft pretzel. I'm not complaining, just saying. The pretzel is expensive at something like $12-$13. You can get a whole dozen of them down the street for the same price. The wings were very thin and overcooked some. Edible, and during wing night when they are only 70 cents, it's not the worst purchase, but I've had better. They also offer whole "smoked" wings, but like the wings in the photo, there's no breading. I also got the burger. It's a little heavy on the bread and doesn't have the most meat, but I did like it. Chips also came with it and the chips were good with kind of a potato taste to them. My mom was not that impressed with the salad. It only had 3 tomatoes and there was not much chicken in it. Came here on a Sunday evening around 8pm. We were able to get a seat by the bar. The bar tender was wonderful and suggested we split the Mark's Mighty Fine Bovine. Super delish, highly recommend. We were looking forward to some frickles but they were sadly out. They had a great beer selection with a couple ciders. My husband and I have been to eat here three times now and have been blown away by the food and service every time. He has severe Celiac disease and every server we've had so far has been incredibly knowledgeable about the safety precautions the kitchen takes as well as what foods he could eat/what alterations could be made/etc. This last visit we had the sweetest waitress named Evelyn who not only made us feel very confident in the food's safety but went above and beyond, bringing us extra forks and napkins (as I was eating food containing gluten) and boxes ahead of time, anticipating our needs. She even was kind enough to prepare my fries celiac-friendly and separate from my burger so that my husband could eat my leftovers. Amazing staff, atmosphere, and food. Daughter and boyfriend met up with some college friends on Saturday and it took them almost 2 hours to get their food. Waitress was unapologetic her only answer was said they were busy but they saw other tables she was waiting on who were sat after them get their food . My guess is its because they were young she didn't think they would tip as they should and it really a shame since I made a living off of being a server and Bartender so she is well aware of how to tip. You know how long it has been since I have been to Fat Heads? Years and years, I mean pre-Yelp years for me. I came with colleagues here for lunch one day and it brought back some memories. During lunch time it was not very busy. We walked in and were seated very quickly and had menus in hand. We were lucky enough to nab a seat outside, or maybe not so lucky. With it being noon-ish the sun was high in the sky and made me wish that I had my sunglasses with me. Our server was amazing. She was prompt with everything. She made sure we had everything we needed. Took our drink orders and heading on her way. Once she returned with our drink orders we placed our orders for food and before we knew it our food was at the table. I have to tell you, I looked over the menu so many times, but you honestly go with what you first spotted. I went with the fish and chips on the menu. I have to tell you that this appears under the appetizer menu that they call Munchies. But it should be on an entrée section for real. It appears small, but it was appropriately filling. It is a battered north Atlantic cod with a side of fresh cut fries. The batter is nice and crispy on the outside, and the fish was nice and flaky on the inside. Each bite of the fish I made sure had some of that house made tartar sauce. And I know I talk a lot about my love of fresh cut fries, but let me lay it on you again. I love fresh cut fries and any establishment that takes the time to do this will always do it right in my eyes. Fresh, fried perfectly, and seasoned just right. Pair it with some ketchup and it kind of transports you back to childhood.
