i had heard this place was good.i have been twice and ordered between us four dishes.the fish and chips were terrible.batter was more like a pancake.very thick not crispy at all.as for the chips well are they irish? their potatoes are awful not fresh or organic.tasteless.next time i went in i ordered the breakfast.the potatoes were old not fresh.they were also paired with some old onions and peppers.eggs were under cooked and watery.gravy was tastless.will not eat here again.the waitress was lovely and was the best bit of my experience. read more

Best clam chowder in town! I live in Brookings and love fat irish's clam chowder. It's rich and creamy with lots of clams and just enough bacon. This is THE best chowder in town! Have it in the sourdough bread bowl for a full meal. The place is clean and has a nice feel, but fri/sat night are slammed and it gets really noisy. Fun if you like the bar scene. They have great mixed drinks too. The outdoor patio is nice at night with the gas firepit. They also have live music sometimes. The service is fast and efficient, and the wait staff are wonderfull! The women's bathroom has always been clean. I would give 5 stars but it's just too loud sometimes. read more

We stopped around 9pm after driving up from California. Our server/bartender was super friendly and awesome with suggestions. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was relaxing and low key. The fire pit on the patio was an added bonus. I would definitely stop here again. read more

2nd time with very slow, poor service. I get into town every few months and the service just seems to be getting worse. I'm not sure what it is but the staff here seem totally uninterested! If you are not a local I would not waste my time trying to get served in this poorly run establishment. Went to eat with the family on mothers day. Ordered our food and 2 sides of jo jos (fries) since our sandwiches didn't come with any. The waitress only brought one. I told her we ordered 2 then she came back and told me they were almost out and we're saving them for people who order meals that comes with them. This translates to our potential customers are more important than you. WHO does that. I'm here with money now! It was one 1230 and they opened at 11. The kids grilled cheese was nasty and when I asked for 3 boxes to take our abundant amount of left overs to the animals I was brought 2. Guess our waitress couldn't count that day. We come to this place every time we visit Brookings because it's conveniently located to the campground we stay at. The food is amazing, the staff is always friendly and there are adequate TV's to watch the games on. The only complaint we have is the beer is ALWAYS warm. The restaurant has a beer pouring system where the beer is filled from the bottom up and due to this system the glasses cannot be chilled. I get they want to be unique but it really puts a damper on things when you have to put ice in your beer to drink it..... To the management; PLEASE fix this, we love your restaurant and want to continue visiting but the beer situation is not good :-/ read more

I got the fish and chips. The fish portion is large but on the greasy side. My Mom got the Dublin dunkel so much salt had been added she wasn't able to eat it. We had gone there 4 months ago and the food was really good. We sat our selfs down and watched as people who came in after us get served before we did. We waited 10 minutes before the bartender came to wait on us. I guess the waitress must have gone on break. The have inside and outside dining. Was there last night for dinner. Fish and chips "Irish" style was awesome. The crew was very friendly and the service was superb. I had 2 Lagers which was excellent. The beer mugs are unique they fill from the bottom. They have signs that say don't play with the bottom of the glass. I was so lucky to see some idiot play with one. Great laugh! The beer spilled everywhere. I look forward to my next visit. Will be even more excellent during the summer. Need to try a couple of the Iris whiskey next time. read more

the Irish pub has a great feel to it. Sat at the bar and ordered a beer, as I watched the bartender fill my glass from the bottom up I was totally intrigued although bummed out when I found out it was in a plastic cup rather than glass. "With this new technology it may be the only way they can serve it? " They played great reggae music throughout my dining experience I ordered the Irish Lord sandwich which was one of the biggest and best sandwiches I've had in many years. The staff was very friendly but they should've had another server helping out the bartender was running the show through the lunch rush. After driving for 14 hours to vacation we were excited to return to Fat Irish.... we went in June 2017 and everyone loved it... this visit was pretty disappointing.... we ordered and 50 minutes later the owner who was having dinner with his family at the time finished his food, walked over to our table and said "we will take care of you guys".... apparently the Manager who was also our food server never put in our order. When you have a 2 year old that is hungry, it isn't easy from keeping him from having a melt down.... finally our sons chicken fingers showed up... no apology... no "your food will be right out". No "this is on us for the inconvenience".... we continued to watch other people who came in after us get their food, pay, and leave... The Salad, Beef Stew, and Bruscheta never showed... We were hoping to have the chicken skewers but were told they sold out. I asked we will be in town for the week, when will they be available.... the response "we never know"... I guess we were hoping to find out who was going to prepare our meal, that never happened....the best part of the service was the Bartender who smiled at us as we were walking out to say goodbye....
