We ate lunch at Fat Lou's and ordered it to go. We both had the Chile Verde Quesadilla's. I have to say, I haven't had Chile Verde like this in a long time. The flavors that were in there were made from pure love. It reminded me of my grandmother's cooking, where she began cooking dinner right after we had lunch and all of the love she put into her dinners. The portions were very generous and there was enough that we had left overs that we ate for dinner. Fat Lou's, you have a customer for life, and I am spreading the word to anyone who is looking for "true" mexican food. I am so glad you are a quick drive out to the delta to eat your food. This is a small restaurant on River Road. Area is geared towards tourists. This is a block away from Tony's Place. Ambiance Small and very clean. A few patio tables and about 4 tables inside. Customer Service Water never refilled. It was not busy. Chile Verde and chile relleno plate. Chile verde ok very small portion. Chile relleno very good. Food was cold except the relleno, asked to be reheated not acceptable. BBQ Plate Baby back ribs were not fall off the bone tender but had good flavor. Chicken juicy and tender, very good. Food was absolutely terrible. My iced tea smelled like freezer-burned ice cubes -- one sip and I was gagging. The burger was just okay, but the fries were completely drenched in oil to the point it was pooling on the plate. My wife ordered the chilaquiles and said they were gross; she only took a few bites. I love places like this. You can feel the heart in it the second you walk in. The food was so delicious. Everything tasted homemade and comforting, like the kind of meal that's been passed down and perfected over time. The plates are generous and full of flavor. We even ended up buying a jar of their salsa and jalapeños to take home because it was that good. What really made this visit special though was the people. The owner's grandson was so sweet and helpful, and getting to meet the owner and his family made it feel more like being welcomed in than just dining out. Sort of randomly drove upon this location, as had intended to originally visit another place instead. BUT glad that we did end up here. This is for sure a true family owned vibe location. Very friendly, inviting and comforting in our experience. We were however the only guests of 4 doing this visit on a Saturday mid to late afternoon. Their menus are fun as they are actual photos of their meals as cooked. Very helpful for visual people if not familiar with certain dishes. Even though it was lunch time, I felt special as I was able to order chilaquiles even though past the time. Was a delicious meal with added hot salsa on the side. It was fun to have out meals and watch the Mexico/USA soccer game on the tv as well. This location also has a BBQ spot right next door which is a Saturday n Sunday only run establishment. We were hanging out at Ko Ket resort having margaritas and listening to a band and I found this place on Yelp. I guess because the weather kinda sucked it was empty. I had the chili verde and steak ranchero combo and really liked it. Joe actually also gave me some chicana too, not sure why, but it was all very tasty. We stopped in a hot summer afternoon after a brief drive from Elk Grove. We parked across the street and stopped to watch the boats dock or sailing down the river . When we walked into the super clean and bright restaurant we were immediately greeted by Fat Lou himself! He was super friendly and quickly sat us at a table. He recommended the BBQ special and the chilie Verde fries which we ordered along with the Fat Lou burger. However we started with the red wine slushy and the Michelada which were both extremely refreshing on a hot day. The food was flavorful, filling and the portions were generous. Both Lou & the rest of the staff regularly checked in on us. We are already planning on a return visit for breakfast before the summer is over. read more

The chips and salsa are incredible and the chili Verde divine! The people are welcoming, and the owner came out and chatted with us for a bit. Super sweet folks. Breakfast is a pretty simple meal and this one was just OK, but $15 is totally outrageous for one piece of toast two strips of bacon and two eggs. The coffee was $4.00 and was just OK. Recently went to Fat Lou's. Mr. Louis is very friendly and appeared accommodating. Ordered a burrito, quesadilla and 2 tacos, water & bottled soda. Both burrito & quesadilla with " chicken " were tasty. But no guacamole or sour cream was not available due to delivery issue. Pick them up at a local store then, pretty simple. The 2 tacos my grandson ordered from Mr. Louis, his request was to fry the tortillas. No problem Mr. Louis said, he just like my grandson, picky! But you got it!! 2 chicken tacos fried, plain period! When waitress brought the tacos my grandson looked at me with this look. The tortilla and chicken were sitting there and it appeared it had been put in microwave (tortilla). Once my grandson picked it up it tore and totally crumbled in his hands. We used to hit this spot way back when it was Alma's and we loved the family ownership, great service and great food. Over the years it changed hands is now in the best hands with Maria, Lou and June running the show! We were there in the morning and had amazing homemade guacamole with chips and salsa. But the menu goes well beyond delicious Mexican food. Lou was smoking chicken and pork! His unique style gives a great smoke flavor but keeps the meat tender and juicy. We had a few samples (Lou said he needed tasters) and ended up ordering a full meal to take home. They wrapped everything up so that it could sit in our ice chest on the boat for the afternoon and not get waterlogged. We made nachos with the chicken (we chose the spicy version) and then dove into the potato salad...also homemade that morning. The potatoes were perfectly cooked so the texture was chunky but soft, not mushy. The balance of dill and celery salt was perfect. Honestly when a family puts this much love and effort into their food, they deserve 5 stars. Then you add on their warmth and friendliness and honestly I can't say enough good things about Fat Lou's. We'll be making more trips to WG by car and boat. Won't pass by without stopping here! PS...Maria's daughter was also working and I want to say her name was Anastasia but if I got that wrong I apologize! She was awesome, too!
