Ask about the chili oil -- tip appropriately. He puts in the work and you can tell. Whoever this dude is really knows his stuff

    The Mexican flag plate. Yum!!

The best Mexican food I've had in years! The flavors were perfect. The fresh tortilla chips and guacamole were tasty. The Mexican flag plates was delicious. Service made me feel welcomed and well taken care of. Lou clearly loves to feed you good food. I'll be back soon!

    Chili relleno and chili verde

Incredible meal at Fat Lou's. We were drawn in by the chili verde and ended up getting the half/half plate. Chili verde and chili relleno combo with rice, beans, and home made corn tortillas. I feel like a measure of good Mexican food is the rice and beans, and honestly the rice is the best I've had in a long time. We will return for the bbq as it smelt amazing. Great indoor and outdoor seating options with a view of the river. The staff is so kind. Do yourself a favor and grab a modelo from the fridge, place your order, enjoy the view, and get ready to unbutton your jeans because this meal will have keep you coming back for more!

New spot with great taste in beer choices

Sort of randomly drove upon this location, as had intended to originally visit another place instead. BUT glad that we did end up here. This is for sure a true family owned vibe location. Very friendly, inviting and comforting in our experience. We were however the only guests of 4 doing this visit on a Saturday mid to late afternoon. Their menus are fun as they are actual photos of their meals as cooked. Very helpful for visual people if not familiar with certain dishes. Even though it was lunch time, I felt special as I was able to order chilaquiles even though past the time. Was a delicious meal with added hot salsa on the side. It was fun to have out meals and watch the Mexico/USA soccer game on the tv as well. This location also has a BBQ spot right next door which is a Saturday n Sunday only run establishment. Another fun part was that it was the owners (wife) birthday this day. Wished her a happy one! After our meal we made sure to inform that we would be returning one day soon. If ever across the bridge on their neck of the woods. Be sure to stop in a pay them a friendly visit as you will get the same friendliness in return.

    Green tamales, refried beans, rice

If you find yourself in Walnut Grove, stop here! Lou was there and served us personally. The green pork tamales are some of the best I've had anywhere. Worth the stop and the money!

If you're ever out in the Delta on a weekend (specifically Walnut Grove) and crave Mexican food and bbq, then this is your spot. It is located right on the river road (there are a limited amount of parking spots on the levee). The proprietors of this establishment are very friendly and accommodating. The carnitas were tender and rice & beans were on point. Bbq ribs were a bit fatty but had good flavor. Potato salad and corn on the cob were both tasty. The menu prices are much higher than your typical Mexican restaurant found in the city. If you're in a pinch and really need to eat Mexican food while out on the river, then swing by Fat Lou's Cafe.

Great food and service! Must try spot!

The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming, and what always amazes me is how she remembers her customers and makes everyone feel like a regular. The doughnuts and pastries are honestly the best I've ever had and worth the trip on their own. Their sandwiches are also outstanding and make for a perfect lunch. Even if you're just passing through Rio Vista, I highly recommend making a stop here. Great food, friendly service, and a genuine small-town atmosphere make this bakery a true local gem. Downside is that there doesn't seem to be AC, so it was quite warm inside. I ordered a matcha pandan which I noticed was whisked fresh. The drink featured a house-made pandan syrup and was topped with latik (a Filipino ingredient often used in desserts and is cooked down coconut-milk). I was super impressed by their latik! It tasted legit but was crispy and not oily which is not the usual for latik. Overall, the matcha was subtle in flavor, but the drink made for a nice study treat! I ordered one to take home. I requested they take out the ice, so it didn't get watered down. Without having to ask, they put the latik in a separate cup, so it didn't get soggy on the road. Amazing service!

When I went on a rainy and windy Saturday afternoon there were tons of college students studying and it was quiet inside and pretty much all the seats were filled. Their menu had normal coffee drinks and lattes such as Americano, cappuccino, mocha, jasmine and earl grey tea. They also had unique drinks such as miso caramel latte, pandan latte, matcha pandan latte, matcha and hojicha. In addition, they had a spring seasonal menu and their current specials were a mango matcha drink and passion fruit espresso drink with tonic water. I ordered the hojicha latte with oat milk with light sweetener and light ice. They had options of whole milk, almond, or oat milk for milk. The cashier told me light ice meant there was going to be more oat milk. It was $5.80 which is cheaper than most cafes for hojicha however the quality wasn't as great as other cafes I've been to. The hojicha latte lacked flavor and tasted oily and didn't have the nutty flavor I'm used to but I still finished it. They usually have two bathrooms and they only had one available and sometimes you had to wait in a line for 20 min since there was so many people in the cafe which is inconvenient. Hopefully, they have the other bathroom fixed soon. Overall, it's a nice cafe with nice ambiance and some unique drink selections but I was not satisfied with the hojicha latte as there was no flavor. At least the prices are lower than other cafes. Maybe another drink would have been better.
