Interesting place to check out. We stopped in on a Sunday at lunchtime. The place was reasonably busy, but we sat quickly, and our server came right over. You get 2 choices from the salad/pickle bar with your meal. They came out on a small plate, which was quite full. The server recommended the lamb stew because they don't have it too often. We ordered the stew, and when the server checked in to see how we liked it, we let her know there wasn't much lamb. So, she took it away and came back with another serving containing more lamb. Nice touch. The food and atmosphere are nice and the service was great. We'll be back again to check out more items off the menu. read more

I thought sure I'd leave this place a 5-star rating, and then again, not sure why I'm not leaving it 2-star. I'm rarely a complainer. However, my server was very slow, as other tables around us were seated several minutes after us and received their orders several minutes before us. Our order was Matza Ball soup and a pastrami sandwich. Nothing strange for a Jewish Deli at lunchtime. I asked the waitress if they are backed up? Anyway, the Matza Ball soup finally came out barely warm. We started to send it back but we were hungry. The sandwich was good. We asked for a piece of carrot cake to go. For us, it had twice as much icing as needed and needed walnuts or something added. We love Jewish delis and will try this place again. Oh my goodness! This restaurant has been on my "Places to Eat" list! Mr. Bill, the host was so nice immediately upon entering! Our waitress was Dorris, she was awesome! Helped us make decisions on what to eat. I got the Monday special: Spaghetti with garlic bread, a side (huge) house salad, and a couple items from the pickle bar (a must, my favorite was the pasta salad). My boyfriend got the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side on onion rings. Finished off with a slice of the chocolate silk pie! The vibe of the restaurant was nice and clean. This place was super cute. Menu was a bit large but overall easy to understand. The cucumber/onion pickle salad was my favorite and I took a jar Togo. Potatoes pancakes are a definite recommendation as well. Will deff come back again when in the area. I also have to give a huge shout out to my server (I think his name was Michael.. younger with dark short hair) he was excellent and his hospitality was above and beyond. The plain pastrami was delicious!!!.I Loved this sandwich with the marble rye bread. Mush! Delicioso! I haven't had a sandwich in a long time--nevertheless a pastrami sandwich. Also, I must mention the star of this order as I could not avoid the cannoli at the window--as it called my name. I must say that cannoli was scrumptious-just so, that I purposely went back the next day and went back just for the cannoli. Service was not the best at both occasion. As the people up front were not attentive, or friendly for that matter---perhaps they were busy, but idc cuz the cannoli was slamming! I went here for the first time several days ago but forgot my review... I enjoyed my visit very much. Nice atmosphere and very friendly employees. Place is very clean as well. I had a BLT with macaroni salad.. Both where very good and my GF had stuffed cabbage and mashed potatoes which I had to sample and both were also very good. Everything came together nicely during my visit which is why I'm giving it five stars. BTW yes they have a pickle bar and a regular bar as well besides being a family restaurant. Stopped in to satisfy my sweet tooth and I remembered all the great baked goods I saw in their showcase. Purchased several items for the household to share, spent quite a bit on them (but oh well, it's what you do on vacation) and will NEVER do it again! Cakes tasted like box mix quality, black and white cookies had baking soda balls in them, which is disgusting to bite into, and you could tell that things were far from fresh. DB Pickles is, at least in my opinion, the best Jewish-style deli in central Florida. It is located on Nova Road in Ormond Beach (which is in the Daytona Beach area) and offers a lot of great items that you can find in the traditional deli restaurants up in the northeast, though a few items are safely absent, such as a potato knish. If you never had a potato knish, I would recommend if you ever seen one, order it. Think mashed potatoes wrapped in dough. I grew up having knishes with spicy brown mustard. Truly a bit of heaven here on earth. I ordered a Reuben and upgraded to the onion rings. This is a fantastic sandwich and has been my go-to here for years. Honestly, I cannot recall if I ever had anything else here. Maybe some day I will try their New Jersey-style ripper, which is an all-beef hot dog deep fried, but this Reuben is truly fantastic. DB Pickles brings me back to my homestate of New Jersey with every meal. It is definitely a great place to get a taste of the northeast down here in sunny Florida. There's so much going on here I admit my expectations were set extremely high after watching an episode of Triple D yesterday (Guy wasn't here but he was doing a similar type restaurant in a different city), I was really hungry for a pastrami and / or corned beef sandwich so when I opened the menu and saw the "Full Kosher Kombo" I was sold. A pound of fresh pastrami and corned beef on rye - well it definitely wasn't love at first bite, actually it was a big disappointment I should of asked if it was house made so it's on me, I was imagining house prepared hand sliced meats, I think boar's head deli slice luncheon meats would compete well, anyway all was not lost on this visit. Our server Sabrina was an exceptional server she was attentive enough and ensured we had everything we needed, the kind of server you hope you get. We started with a few items from the pickle bar - half-sours, dills and bread and butter pickles these were absolutely delicious and a great pairing with any meal - we also ordered the "today's special" a ginormous Indiana Style Pork Tenderloin Sandwich this was the real deal ( the size of this tenderloin was unbelievable) it was not only a giant version of this epic sandwich from the mid-west it was hand-breaded and cooked to perfection. I quickly abandoned my sandwich for a portion of this gigantic slice of tenderizer pork, forget the bread it was a meal all by itself. The restaurant was very clean and organized the entire staff was friendly and professional and the prices are very reasonable - the bakery counter was impressive as well, although we didn't par-take in any of the sweets on display I was tempted (maybe next time). Our original intention when planning to dine here was for a late breakfast - there was a sign on the door upon arriving stating breakfast service ends at 11:00 AM on the weekends and totally eliminated on weekdays (I suspect staffing issues could be the reason since there are "hiring signs" on practically every business in town (thanks to the ongoing government incentives not to work but that's another failed plan). I love supporting local businesses and I understand every experience can't be exceptional unfortunately, I definitely plan to return for one of their infamous breakfast omelettes... read more

Always a favorite, kids eat free Sundays with a paying adult. The food is great we had burgers, perfectly cooked, kids love the Mac and cheese, the tomato stuffed with egg salad was amazing and great portions. I ordered potato salad with it, but after getting something from the pickle bar and the sandwich I could only eat about half the potato salad. The kids plates were $5.99 and could have fed an adult. My husband got corned beef and cabbage. It was huge!!! The taste was great! Because it was my birthday we ordered a dessert! I ordered a cannoli which was beyond delicious. I dont write reviews but we were very upset after spending $40 to get sweets for the family. We ordered an eclair, cream puff, piece of carrot cake, red velvet cake and birthday cake. All was stale. My husband could not even cut eclair with knife. Please throw away the old stuff instead of selling it! Not cool! read more

Cakes and pastries in another. And it all looked wonderful. Omg they have a pickle bar. I am in heaven. 2 bowls of assorted items from the pickle bar with my Ruben. My ruben came out hot and stuffed. Definitely a "sink" sandwich. Tasty and very good. Sides you could get are potato salad, Pasta salad, Cole slaw. Or get onion rings or fries for an up charge. With a trip to the pickle bar. Not the first time we ate lunch here, and definitely not going to be the last time. Food is phenomenal and serving size is also very robust. The service was pretty awesome as well. Our server, Shannon has a real great personality and very attentive. When we were there, it was a little bit of a late lunch, and the place was pretty crowded. Used to be one of our families favorites. We have been going since the month they opened and always sang its praises, but NO more. We had family in town and they wanted to visit the restaurant they remembered from their last visit, however things have certainly changed. Never got past the hostess station, we had called for 2 days letting them know we had 9 people coming in and were told we might have to wait 20 minutes or so which would have been fine. When we got there the hostess didn't want to deal with us so she said she would get the manager, "you are his problem!" Soon an angry greasy balding man stormed out of the kitchen and said he wouldn't seat us. I shot back not reaching his bad and rude attitude mentioning the owner, and asked about Pete the owner he was insulting and rude and screamed through the restaurant "Pete's cancer is back and he's dying." I got so upset I left and my wife told me he said he was the CEO and CFO and he wanted us to leave. NOTHING could get us back to this careening downhill rudely staffed and unmanaged restaurant. Our neighbor recommended this restaurant and we made a special trip to see for ourselves. We went for lunch and the restaurant is big with lots of booths for seating. They also specialize in pickles and they will give you one free selection. After that you will pay a minimal amount. The service is fantastic and the food was delicious. I've been here before when the pickle bar was still open, let's just say things have changed. Now you can order one item from the pickle bar and you get charged for anything else. This would be fine with me but now the macaroni salad tastes so bad I wouldn't eat it for free, my mom said the pickles were fine. I'm not sure about the bean salad if they changed up that recipe too but the best thing about this place was the pickle bar and now it's doesn't taste the same. I got the pastrami on a Kaiser roll it, I can't say it was bad but it wasn't good. I have no idea how you can screw up pastrami to make things worse they brought my fries out late and they tasted like saw dust, my moms words not mine and she speaks broken English. She got the burger and she said it was fine. No one asked how our food was. By the time the waitress got back to our table with a refill on our sodas I had been waving my credit in the air. All the other staff saw me and finally some other waitress came over and offered us boxes. It wasn't busy in there and several servers were just standing around. That being said the bakery still looked good with all the beautiful cakes & cookies and they have expanded the bar area. The sesame seed cookies & the rainbow cookies we were looking for weren't in the cookie case and no one bothered to walk up to the counter to help us while we were standing in-front of it. It seems like the service and the food have all gone down hill. This is such a shame because it really was a special place. I hope they can bring it back up to where it was and make the food flavorful again. The hostess was really friendly & nice. The bathroom was clean.
