P2. Pho Tai Nam Large (steak & brisket)

4.5 stars. I had a coupon, so I decided to check it out. I really did not know of a good place for pho in Volusia County, but I think I just discovered one. Although slightly on the pricey side for the portion size, the food is high-quality with an authentic taste. I am a vegetarian, and I saw only one vegetarian option on the menu. When I asked our server (who it seemed may have also been the owner), he pointed out 4 or 5 things he could make vegetarian for me with tofu. We got summer rolls made with crispy tofu, basil, and a yummy peanut sauce for dipping. I got a delicious vermicelli noodle dish with fried tofu, marinated sautéed mushrooms, and plenty of fresh veggies. Delish! My husband said the pho was spot-on although the portion size was slightly on the small side. They had a house-made spicy sauce to put in the pho that really made it a step above. My only real complaint is that they kept playing the same two songs over and over in the background. I will come back again.

    A roach in my pho

I was SO excited to try but being let down isn't even the correct term for what happened. The food and service was amazing but we found a ROACH in our pho!!!! I called the Florida department of health and they said this restaurant has "more dead roaches than they've ever seen" and will possibly get shut down. If you eat here, good luck

Super good and authentic Viet dishes. Pho was very enjoyable, brisket and flank were cooked very well. Crispy spring rolls were excellent. I would go here every time I visit Daytona to try all of the options. Owner was very pleasant and visited or table a couple of times.

Yummy! Papaya salad, pork skewers, and spring rolls. Bonus as most items were mostly low-carb

Best pho I've ever had! If you're looking for an AMAZING Vietnamese restaurant, this is the one to go to. Amazing service! Server Ashlyn was very friendly and gave us great suggestions, she was so sweet and offered to box our noodles. I recommend a small if you usually don't eat a lot, their smalls are still very big! I had a chicken based pho and my partner had a beef based pho. We also had some wonderful egg rolls that aren't pictured but are definitely the best in town. I usually don't like softer noodles (just a personal preference) but these were superrrr good. I also usually hate chili oil but their's was top tier!!

While Christmas shopping my partner discovered a Vietnamese Restuarant on International Speedway Blvd. Since the area is really void of any really good Asian cousine we decided to stop by for lunch. And we're really happy that we did. Mama's Kitchen features what we would consider Fusion Vietnamese cooking which is not a bad thing. Even though it was lunchtime the place was empty. And the dining room is surrounded by televisions on both sides of the place. That said, we were seated immediately and discovered the culinary passions of the place. We started off with the Spring Rolls. A standard Vietnamese appitizer these rolls consisted of prawns, pork, vermilelli noodles, wrapped in lettuce and rolled in rice paper accompanied by a very tasty peanut sauce. What differenciated these rolls from the ones that you can get from other Vietnamese places is that they were really fresh; the lettuce was crunchy fresh. A lot of places usually have these premade, but these were reallt fresh. The entrees were really good too. The winner was Bun Thit Nuong; which consisted of grilled 5 - spice pork, over vermicelli noodles that was served with an eggroll. The other dish; Com Chien was less spectacular consisting of fried rice with seafood, baby shrimp scallups, in a garlic butter sauce. It was basically a seafood fried rice. We both liked the place and it certainly filled us up. The only negative was the price. For $50 for lunch it is more reflective of the times that we live in but we did see a couple of people look over the menu and price and walk out. The food was good as well as our server. To be honest, it is one of the better Vietnamese places in the area, but nothing like Ah Hong in Orlando which we always go to when traveling down to Disney. But if you're in Daytona Beach, Mama's Kitchen is well worth checking out.

The food here is amazing, the portions are massive! Super speedy service, and the restaurant is extremely clean and has a very relaxing feel. I'd rate it higher if I could!!

I was looking for Vietnamese vegetarian options at Mama's Kitchen and found pho rao. The pho rao has a clear vegetable broth with carrots and cabbage and tofu (I asked them to prepare it without onions.). I added bean spouts, jalapeños, and lime from the fresh condiment plate. The soup was flavorful hearty with plenty of vegetables. To my surprise, the pho rao does not have rice noodles, but the large size bowl was very filling. I also got the seafood fried rice to share at the table and a Thai tea. The fried rice came out first and was devoured in minutes. The Thai tea was refreshing and cold. Make sure to stir the condensed milk! Our server was fun and energetic. The restaurant was clean and well kept. The dining area is open and nicely decorated. There are large screen TV's on one side of the room. There was plenty of parking on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is located directly across the Daytona Speedway.

My husband and I started with the buffalo shrimp, which is a go-to order for us at seafood spots. The buffalo flavor was good, but the sauce was very oily, and several shrimp still had bits of shell attached beyond the tails, so I ended up picking shell out of my mouth while eating. For my entrée, I ordered the snow crab and shrimp platter and asked for it to be cooked without butter but keep the old bay. The plate arrived with no discernible seasoning at all, and the seafood, potatoes, and corn tasted like they'd been boiled in plain water. When I asked about it, the server explained that they don't steam crab or shrimp in Old Bay, despite agreeing to that when I ordered, and that the platters rely on butter for flavor, which was disappointing for a $40-$50 dish. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because my mother did enjoy her lobster platter. That said, her lobster was absolutely swimming in butter and Old Bay--not lightly drizzled as the menu implies--and it felt like butter was the main source of flavor rather than an enhancement. The server even mentioned how much butter the restaurant goes through in a day, which reinforced that this is their primary approach to seasoning. I enjoy seasoning and lots of flavor, and I prefer seafood that's cooked so the spices and the delicious taste of the shellfish stand out, not preparations that rely on heavy butter, so this restaurant ultimately wasn't a good fit for my preferences.

We came for lunch and honestly didn't want to leave. Our server Brooke was the kind of person who makes a restaurant great. Attentive, upbeat, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we sat down. She had great energy and made our whole group feel taken care of without ever being intrusive. Ask for her if you can. The food was outstanding. We ordered the ahi tuna pizza -- a crispy flatbread topped with fresh raw tuna, avocado, sesame seeds, and a drizzle of spicy aioli and teriyaki glaze. It was stunning to look at and even better to eat. The blackened fish sandwich came loaded with fresh toppings and paired perfectly with the golden fries. The grilled chicken tacos were generous and well-seasoned with a mango salsa on the side that really popped. We also got the coconut shrimp -- beautifully fried with a honey mustard dipping sauce -- and our little one loved the chicken bites and fries. Don't skip the gator bites either -- a true Florida experience, perfectly crispy and served with a honey mustard that kept us reaching for more. Everything tasted fresh, like it came straight off the boat. We toasted the afternoon with margaritas on the rocks and honestly couldn't imagine a better setting -- salt-rimmed cups, ocean breeze, the sound of waves just a few feet away. Yes, the prices are a step up, but when you factor in that you're sitting steps from the beach with food this fresh and a view like this, it's worth every penny. If you're passing through Daytona, make a point to stop in -- you won't regret it.
