The two girls there were very nice. A little awkward and quiet so it was very hard to hear them, but nice nonetheless. The reason I'm giving a two star review is because the drink I got (Taro Milk Tea) wasn't very good. It was pretty bland and the boba didn't taste the best either. Some were even a little hard to chew. It wasn't bad enough not to drink however, not too long after finishing it, I got a sick feeling in my stomach. The best way I can describe this feeling would be feeling car sick, but I wasn't even moving or even in a car at that when I began to feel sick. It kind of felt like the drink was just sitting in my stomach and not digesting very well I guess. I wish this business the best, but I do not think I will be returning :/ read more

Drinks are consistent. The owners are the sweetest! They actually take the time to get to know you and remember your drinks. Really quick service! They have a wide option so if you don't like milk tea, they have smoothies and juices! Great selection of food! Clean, roomy and quite atmosphere. Although I'm not a big fan of boba (they remind me of eyeballs), I was interested when I saw that this place was opening a month or so ago and came in to try it last week and I am so glad that I did! Their business is very clean, good music, friendly staff, and most importantly...great food. I really enjoy their slushes and waffles! Decent price as well, doesnt take a big hit on the wallet. Seriously good milk tea and amazing tapioca. I really love bubble tea and have had it all over the U.S as well as in China (although not in Taiwan where, granted,it did originate from...) So I think I have a pretty good basis of comparison to rank this a 5 star bubble tea place. :) In particular, the key to good tapioca is freshness, and Fat Straw makes it often enough to always keep it chewy and delicious. I'm usually a very generous reviewer, but this was the worst smoothie I've ever had. I went here two weeks ago on our way back home from a trip to SF - I wanted a smoothie and was deciding between mango or cookies and creme - I went with cookies and creme since I figured nobody can mess that up. This smoothie - if you'd call it that - was terrible. It felt like most of the milk was at the bottom, the smoothie wasn't sweet, and the remaining mixture felt like a tasteless ice cube (kinda how slurpees taste if you drink all the liquid first). Wanted to try a new tea place after discovering Quickly. I got almond milk tea and my sister got a green apple smoothie. Mine drink tasted like flowers and my sisters drink had no flavor at all. I also ordered egg rolls because someone wrote that they were good, worst egg rolls I had ever had. I literally wasn't feeling well all day. The egg rolls were all mushy inside. It was gross. I talked to some of my friends about that place and they all told me it was bad too. One friend said she has tried to like it there but it's just not good. Clean place. We called in to ask if they have an outside seating since we have our little dog with us but when we arrive there was none but the guy owner allowed us to stay inside. We ordered one red bean milk tea with passion fruit bobba and one green tea with regular boba. Both order were mess up but they apologize for it and they let hubby get the regular bobba wih the passion fruit bobba they originally add in. Chicken popcorn is very good, and serving is big, actually good for two. We will come back despite the honest confusion with our drink order. Cheers! read more

I have been coming to Fat Straw since they opened because it's close and cheap for a decent milk tea. The quality has definitely gone down from when they first opened, the milk teas flavorless and watery and the boba is hard. Today I went in for my usual, the young girl took my order and then the owner woman comes out from the back to accuse me of paying with apple pay in the past and the transaction not going through but me leaving with the drink. I told her it couldn't have been me because I don't have apple pay and haven't been there for maybe 3 months, she argued with me telling me it was months ago and her daughter knew it was me and she recognized my car, again I've never paid with apple pay. She said needed to charge me for the drink I didn't pay for, rude and disrespectful. If the transaction did not go through in the first place, she should've have given the customer the drink. I've never really found a place so good I wanted to write a review, but this one I felt like I had to because I love it so much. Personally I'm not a fan of boba teas in general, but I have tried some of their snacks and I've enjoyed everything I've tried. They have quite an assortment of options, which at first made me a little hesitant. My first thought was "how good can a place which specializes in tea be at making things like fried octopus?" the answer: pretty darn good. My boyfriend is the main reason we go there though, as he loves boba. He's tried quite a few different types of their drinks and liked all but one. The coffee (I believe it was iced, but it's been a while since he had it) was the strongest he's ever had and he really wasn't expecting it. Another cool thing about this place, I've noticed, is that you can ask them to put the tapioca or bursting boba on nearly anything, for instance the ice cream they also serve. When I go alone I generally order a peach green tea with tapioca for my grandma. She's a big fan of tapioca pudding and green tea so when I decided to surprise her with boba for the first time a few months ago she loved it and thought it was the coolest thing (she showed off the tapioca balls to my grandpa like they were the most awesome thing since sliced bread). On top of the food which has always been great, for every drink (not purchase, but individual drink) you order they will punch a punch card which rewards you with a free regular sized tea after you purchase 8 drinks (and I think menu items count too, if I recall). The teas are pretty nicely priced, in my opinion, I typically pay around $3 for a regular sized tea for my gram. And me, being the spacey person I am, kept forgetting them at home, and when I got them all together they let me combine them into a single one! The service is amazing too. I'm pretty sure it's a family, as I always see the same two people around. The mother works the counter, the husband cooks in the back and sometimes is around cleaning things too, and the daughter goes to the karate (I think it's karate, I might be wrong) classes in the same shopping center. They're always really sweet and smiley and they work amazingly together. The decoration of the place is pretty awesome too, with those cute little lamps that piece together into neat designs. I'll be pretty sad when I move next year and can't come here aside from when I'm in town. read more

It's okay. I'm not sure what the hype is about. Maybe I tried the wrong drinks. I ordered a green milk tea with boba, and my BF ordered a bubble milk tea with boba. They don't let you customise your drink, which was fine because the sweetness was perfect for me. My green milk tea tasted good, but my BF's milk tea tasted... interesting. Not sure how to explain it, but I've never had a milk tea like that before, and I've had a ton of different milk teas. My issue is that their milk teas are premade. Maybe other people are okay with that, but that bothers me a lot. So I won't get the milk tea anymore if I decide to come back. They had these blue drinks that my BF wanted to try, so I'll give it another shot. The lady working was nice. The store was clean. The seats were kinda weird lol. read more

Went here for the first time today. I got the Thai Iced Tea, and my friend got an Avacado Smoothie. Both were very delicious. The Thai Iced Tea tasted just like the ones in the restaurants. Also, apparently the smoothies are made with real ice cream. My friend said it was one of the best Avacado smoothies he has ever had. The servers were timely and friendly. This place is much higher quality than Quickly's, and it will be a welcome addition to Livermore! read more

Their waffles are so good! I've only tried the Thai iced tea here, but it's pretty good. My only complaints are that I feel like the waffles are a little over priced for what you get. This place is cute. I came here when they first opened and thought the prices were OK. Since then I have seen some competition,and even though they have a rewards card, I am not sure that the value is there. Service needs a little improvement as they never say thanks and rarely ever smile. It could be a cultural issue and of course I'm willing to rule that out.... it's hard to have a buisness. My new fave boba joint, just 10 minutes away from the Livermore outlets. It's my third time here and I love coming for the snacks and the hot or cold teas and milk teas. Although their selection is limited, everything is made fresh, with the right amount of sweetness and perfectly cooked tapioca balls. I would recommend the popcorn chicken, cooked with a golden brown texture with a choice of mild/spicy. I also love their honey green tea or honeydew melon milk tea with tapioca. Last time, I ordered the fried octopus. I used to be so hesitant at eating them, trust me. Beware if you order, they look like fried tarantulas, haha but I overcame the idea and they serve a generous whole plateful! I have yet to try other drinks, their smoothies in the future, including Belgian waffles and snow ice desserts. There's so much space and their bathroom is very clean.
