This has to be one of the most petty staff I've ever encountered getting tea. I came here with my husband and sister, intending to save my tea for later, so I made my order with no ice. I was then told that no ice was $1 extra. Now, I just don't want the tea to be really watered down when the ice melts hours later so I ask if they can't just not top off the drink instead of charging me extra and they said no, so I agree to 25% ice. This is important: the order they put through and confirmed when accepting payment was a regular drink with 25% ice. As we're leaving the counter I notice a display cup indicating how much ice they put, which was a large percentage of the cup, and mention off handedly to my sister (NOT to the cashier) that no wonder they charge extra for no ice. Then as we're waiting for our drinks, I hear the cashier bringing her manager over and talking about me. I didn't think anything of it at the time but lo, my drink did come out with no ice and a hilariously little amount of tea. Now, don't get me wrong, I've had other places tell me up front they don't top off drinks with no ice and I get a cup with some empty space at the top. That is fine. But remember, my order that they confirmed was a 25% ice drink as per their policy. This pair of staff changed my order behind my back without consulting me and went out of their way to put an insulting amount of tea in my drink. They even served my drink last so I would much rather get the heck out of there with my family than call them out on this petty spiteful behavior. I've attached a picture of what they gave me with the lid intact. Either they went out of their way to change my order and spite me or this is actually how much tea you are getting when it's not padded with ice. Either way you spin it, it's a bad look. The cherry on top is the tea was mid, completely not worth dealing with that awful penny pinching petty attitude over some ice. Is $1 really accounting for half the tea in the cup or did I get scammed? If I were as petty as them I would dispute the honesty of what was charged to our credit card, but I'll just get a full cup of better tea that isn't completely padded with ice elsewhere. It is amazing how many boba drink places exist in Downtown Pleasanton. We finally got ourselves to check out the most recent addition to the area. Our recent visits have been to return for the avocado smoothie, which is not a common drink offering at Boba places, and popcorn chicken. The avocado smoothie is okay and not the best, however, it will do given none of the nearby places offer this drink. But the real winner is their popcorn chicken which comes with a decently sized-portion and the batter is perfect in amount and flavor. We don't particularly like our food spicy, so we always request for them to not add additional pepper sprinkled on top. That makes it perfect for us. However, if you like your food more spicy, definitely let them know. The only way to do this is if you order directly through a cashier or you somehow get their attention before they finish your order. Otherwise, ordering through the kiosk does not allow you to input any special requests. Service is not particularly fast especially when they get bombarded by the students from the middle schools and high school in the afternoon. I have yet to try their milk tea, but I haven't come to want to take the chance given one of my favorites is not that far of a walk from Honi-Bear. In any case, the location is great in the heart of downtown to treat ourselves to some drinks and snacks! read more

I went to try this cafe for the first time with two of my friends. It was nice that this boba place closes later than some other places. My friends and I got there close to 8pm, it wasn't crowded. We were able to find a seat. I ordered the Mango Sago smoothie drink and shrimp egg rolls. Both were delicious. The only thing about my drink is the sago were frozen in which it tasted like dipping dots, it was not too bad. But because is winter, I think I still prefer the fresh soft sago instead. My friend ordered hot taro milk tea and popcorn chicken. They enjoyed the drink. I got to taste the popcorn chicken too. It was tasty and crunchy. The shrimp egg roll was also very tasty and crunchy. I would order the snacks again. I probably won't order the mango sago drink next time, I would try something else. My friends and I chatted here for almost two hours last Friday night from 7:45pm to 9:30pm. The atmosphere is nice. I like it that the store closes later than other boba places. read more

My husband and I wanted to try a new boba spot after CorgiCon and opted for a drink and snack at Honi Bear. Their mango sago drink was so refreshing and reminded us of HEYTEA's. The popcorn chicken was also tasty with good flavor and fried well. Some of the reviews about the kiosk mentioned a convenience fee, but we didn't notice one on our order. I came in with my friends on a Monday evening on a three day streak of getting boba looking for a fourth. I don't like caffeine at night so I was worried coming to a new place but the staff assured me most of the drinks weren't caffeinated actually, and looking at the list of smoothies and milks (along with lattes and teas of course) I felt a little silly for asking before looking at the menu. I ended up ordering a banana milk with boba. It was pretty good actually, the boba was pretty standard not particularly amazing or bad. The banana milk is on the better end of banana milks but still has that slight fake taste that's really hard to escape with banana milks. They also sold some cute bear stuffed animals. Greeted with a smile by a tall white young adult female with a thick accent. Haven't heard Russian in decades. Actually bought a book long ago to study Russian but couldn't hack it. She was meticulous in Getting my order right down to the most minute detail. Sips: Earl Gray Black Tea topped with puffy cream (6) 25% sugar/ice -ready in 5ish minutes. Puffy cream is similiar to creme brulee without the flame torching. -big cup, black tea not watered down. Semi-bold -puffy cream stuck at top for awhile. Shaking & stirring didn't dislodge it. Honi Bear is a new-ish boba shop in downtown Pleasanton. The place is relatively clean and has the usual decorations (eg solar cat paw thing). They can't even get their branding consistent since the sign above the door says "honey bear" not "honi bear". The service is basically nonexistent. You order your drinks on a tiny iPad which has to charge you a convenience fee. They barely talk to you until you pick up your order. We got the taro paste milk tea which had neither taro paste nor tea. The boba was acceptable but everything else was artificial taro powder. It was also way too sweet considering we asked for 25% sugar. Most of the drink landed in the trash can. I'm not going back. read more

We went on a Monday a little after they opened. They open at 6pm on Mondays. Very odd hours. The two staffs were welcoming but one of them spoke very softly so I had to tell her to repeat herself. I got the first recommended drink on the menu which was fresh rainbow white peach oolong tea and added panden jelly which was recommended as one of the new toppings they offer. The drink has no tea flavor even though they added a tea bag inside the drink. Not really right for me since I like to taste the tea flavor. We also tried the honeydew milk tea which was alright. And Jasmine milk tea, so so as well. They are offering some promotion right now that if you get a food item, you can get $2 off your drinks. Overall, the environment seems clean and staff were friendly. But the tea lacks tea flavor. They are situated right next to the Peet's and they do have several tables for outdoor seatings. I would keep them in mind next time I want a boba drink past 8pm. Since that's the time where other local boba shops close. Nice service but the drinks I got were just meh. I enjoyed the honeydew milk tea, but the "fresh" avocado smoothie was not fresh. It tasted like old avocado and it was also mostly ice. I've had WAY better avocado smoothies everywhere else. I was disappointed. I did try my friend's honey boba, and that was pretty good. Also, the staff is nice. read more

Another boba shop on Main St in downtown Pleasanton! What is this reality I'm living in. My friend and I came for the Mango Coco Sago ($8) around 9pm on a Saturday, but they ran out. I pivoted to the Okinawa Milk Tea ($5.75) and asked for it less sweet, which they nailed. The staff was friendly and helpful with recommendations. This is for sure a fun hangout spot after school or on the weekends! I love that they close at 10pm most days which is unheard of in Pleasanton lol. So glad to have a new delicious boba spot on Main Street! The customer service was excellent. We wanted to try the mango coco sago, which they ran out of. But hearing our sigh of disappointment they quickly made a fresh batch! And it was delicious. My only hope is that in the future you can add boba or other toppings. Currently they don't allow any customization at all. We also tried their water based passion fruit slushy which tasted so fresh and tart. The coconut jelly was also an extra yummy treat. Love that you can add toppings to it. I can't wait to try more drinks. I love that it's a family owned business. It's also kid friendly and they have high chairs available. The interior is cute with plenty of indoor seating and they have a place to sit outside in the shade too. I'll be back again soon. read more

Came here during grand opening weekend so 20% off all drinks! Nice to see another boba place in downtown pleasanton. I am personally a fan of Mr. Sun so was curious to see how it would compare. PARKING: Parked behind the building near Zachary's pizza. WAIT: Came on a Saturday around 12:45pm and there was 1 group ahead of me with about 5 people and each one ordered a drink. Before them was another larger group so it took a while before I got to order and get my drink. I don't fully fault them though since it's just opening as well. ATMOSPHERE: Had a clean, nice atmosphere with a few small tables and a high chair. Was playing popular music that was audible but not too loud/obnoxious. FOOD: I got the create your own jasmine green tea with strawberry, no ice, 50% sweetness and honey boba. STRAWBERRY JASMINE GREEN TEA - the jasmine tea was not that noticeable. The strawberry flavor was good, it wasn't too sweet so I think 50% was a good option. If you really don't like sweet drinks go lower. The strawberry flavor reminded me of what I get from Starbucks if I order a strawberry black tea. It tastes like real strawberry with some sweetener. HONEY BOBA - chewy, not super sweet (could probably be a little sweeter) but good. No complaints. Overall, good boba and tea. However, I think I still prefer the strawberry green tea with brown sugar boba from mr. sun. I think it's probably a preference thing. Also, for those that like more tea flavors or stronger tea this place may not be for you as their menu is a bit more on the fruity/matcha/creamy slushie drinks. I came for the soft opening. The service was quick. The inside of the store has three tables to sit at and there are two tables in the front with patio seating. The 20% for soft opening was a nice touch. The menu prices are good for typical boba places. There is an add on $.75 for toppings and $.75 for milk alternatives, so keep that in mind when you order. I ordered the honeydew milk tea and it was good. You can adjust the sweetness and ice levels too. My friend got the mango slush and liked it too. Honi Bear Boba Cafe is located in downtown Pleasanton. Parking may be hit or miss here, especially on weeknights and weekends. A bit difficult to find at first, as it is a bit hidden and tucked away between other shops. Not the best first experience / visit, but I came back a second time to give them another fair chance. On the first visit, we walked in to study the menu - the employee (or it might just be family member, as it was a pretty young kid at the register) did not really acknowledge or welcome us, she just stood there waiting for us to order. I just ordered my usual, their Jasmine Milk Tea with honey boba. The milk tea tasted off - not that creamy as a jasmine milk tea should be like, and it was a bit bitter / gritty and watered down as well. On the second visit, I wanted a sweet treat, so I was intrigued by their Matcha Jelly (+2 toppings). They had some Coconut Jelly in place of where the Matcha Jelly was supposed to be, so I asked the employee if they had any more of the matcha one. She told they were making it now, and I asked her how long, which she replied tomorrow, but she asked the other employee who walked over (who may be the owner / manager) just in case and she had a bit of an attitude about not having it right now. After that, I scanned the menu and asked the 1st employee about their Fresh Strawberry Banana Smoothie to make sure it has milk, which she responded that they use water (a bit strange, as smoothies usually has milk, or it should be called a slushy instead). Anyway, I decided on their Mango Yogurt Smoothie. I got my drink shortly afterwards - I took a sip and knew it tasted off because there was a lack of yogurt / milk, so I asked the same employee about it. She told me that they use powder for the yogurt or something like that (I guess my bad that I did not ask if it was milk based, I assumed it was because it was a yogurt drink?). I guess she went to the back to check with that 2nd employee (who may be the one in charge) from earlier and got the okay to remake it with milk. The 2nd drink tasted similar to the 1st drink - both a bit sour and too sweet from the syrup (I assume mango syrup - so not fresh mangoes) except the 2nd drink is just a tad creamier from the milk added. She offered us both drinks, we thanked her, left, and took a few sips of both for side to side comparison - we ended up tossing both. Overall, the first visit was alright (maybe 2.5 or 3 stars, if I had to round it up), but the second visit was a total miss. On the second visit, the drinks were not good - it is definitely not on the 1st employee, it is just based on their ingredients and recipe), as the 1st employee was friendly and pleasant. The 2nd employee on this visit (who may be the owner / manager) however came off as a bit rude and unpleasant with her attitude and frown in the background. We believe we gave them 2 chances / visit before making this fair review. read more

We ordered the Banana Avocado Spinach Smoothie. All we tasted was bananas and ice! I got the Fresh Rainbow White Peach Oolong, and it was honestly one of the worst drinks I've had in a while. They fill the "tea" with a bunch of fruit and they leave the tea bag in, which it tastes like they did just tossed in the tea bag last second. It basically just tasted like if they put a fruit cup and a tea bag in ice cold water so that none of the tea flavors properly come through. My friend also got one of the matcha drinks and it just wasn't good overall. I'm honestly not sure how this place even gets such high ratings, because it feels like whoever designed these drinks has no idea what they are doing. read more
