I stop by here a lot during the work week, since the location is pretty convenient and close to my office. Pros: convenient location, occasional special menu items that pop up seasonally, and the always friendly staff. Cons: The boba drink itself is not that great...it's obvious they use powder, since there's no taste of real tea. The "tea" drinks are typically very watered down tasting with little flavor except sugar. They also don't serve any food / desserts / snacks...just drinks. Husband and I decided to give this bubble tea craze a try and were disappointed. We were expecting real fruit/frozen fruit to be used in their smoothies/slushees, instead they have all the flavoring syrups in the back counter labeled mango syrup which leaves a Kool Aide like taste. Really ~3.5 stars Haven't been here in years & the place hasn't changed one bit. Well, they revamped the font of the menu board, but menu items were pretty much exactly the same. Came here after dinner and with caffeine having absolutely no effect on me, I ordered a Vietnamese coffee with boba. Kinda wish the coffee was a bit stronger, but it was pretty decent. The boba was a great texture -- not too chewy, but it didn't seem like it was sweet itself (not that the drink wasn't already sweet). I had the watermelon cooler with boba and it was very good. Clean, cold a/c and nice atmosphere. The gaping mouth of the employee when I entered with my service animal, however, was offensive. Despite them having BRIGHT red service vests clearly marked, she still looked like she wanted to ask if they were service dogs (legally they may ask that). So I volunteered that they were service animals. Her flustered response when I attempted to educate her on the two questions that a business may ask a handler was again offensive: "yeah cause they aren't allowed in here unless they are". At least she knew that much. I originally planned to stay for a little bit but now am only sitting long enough to write this review because I feel unwelcome. I absolutely love this place. Every time I pass through the tollway or 635 or go to the Galleria Mall I go to this Fat Straws. I am a huge tea fan. I love all the different flavors and varieties that they have. My favorite is still Mango Jasmine Tea. The texture and taste of their boba is great too. I have tried many places and sometimes the boba isn't consistent, but not here. They are always great. They are nice and chewy. I like my tea not too sweet, not too strong and just the right taste. Eh this place was just okay. The boba tasted funny, like it lacked sugar and texture. In fact, the texture of it didn't really taste right either. But maybe that's just how they make it in Texas? After all...they do call it Bubble. The tea itself though was really good. You can tell it's brewed from real tea leaves too. I tried their Peach Jasmine Tea which I actually liked better than the Peach Green Tea we normally have back home. Boo bear and I have been coming here as a quick treat after our workouts at the nearby Planet Fitness, and it's been the best idea he's had! It's a touch of sweetness and it's basically all water/tea and some tapioca balls to enjoy on the ride home, without any guilt from lots of calories or being a fattening snack! I've tried the Chai Milk Tea and the Pumpkin Spice Milk Tea, each with "bubbles" (tapioca balls) and Boo has tried the Taro both tmes we've been. Both were excellent, and I have to say their Taro is sweeter than I remember Taro usually being but it's still great! The staff is super friendly, always asking us how our workout was (we come straight from the gym so it's preeeeetty obvious where we were prior, haha) and making small talk while our tea is made. I definitely wanna give props to fat straws... Super great staff who is always nice and cheerful. I always go there for the strawberry banana smoothie and tons of my friends and coworkers come here at least 3 times a week. Love the flavors of the drinks here... I don't think they have as many varieties as some of the other bubble tea places but the few things I go here for I love. I would easily give it 5 stars if the pricing and variety was a little better. Definitely suggest coming here if you are in the area as the drinks are great and staff is pleasant. Sometimes Thai tea for sweetness, mangorange for refreshment, avocado bravado if hungry, milk tea is a staple, but always with BUBBLES! I like how they aren't too heavy on the syrup either. Some places will have hard bubbles, too little milk, thin/watery consistency, or too much syrup (which leaves a bitter, artificial aftertaste in my mouth). Not Fat Straw though! Their drinks are just the right blend of ingredients; bubbles are always soft and consistently chewy, drinks are thick, sweet, refreshing, and not too much or too little of anything. Once, my hubby lost his iPhone there. The owner's mom found it and kept it behind the counter. When we returned to retrieve it, she wanted to see our ID and for me to call it from my phone to prove that the phone was actually ours. I admired how honest she was and thoroughly verified that it was actually our phone. That was five years ago and hubby and I have been loyal customers ever since! Hubby works in Addison and sometimes as a treat, will get a tray or two for his team members. They're all hooked! Since we live in far, far North Dallas now, we usually venture over to Bobaland in Plano. Which is better? I saw this place has the most reviews and a pretty high rating for Bubble Tea or boba. I decided to check this place out on a weekday afternoon. It was very busy and lots of people were there. To be honest the only reason this review isn't a 1 star is because the service was fast & the cashier I spoke with was very friendly. The product however was a watered down version of Milk tea. Literally "watered" down. I thought I was drinking a mix of water and sugar flavor. The boba itself was hard in the center like they boiled it slightly too short of a time. I've been to Fat Straws a few times but this was my first time at this location. The staff was EXTREMELY friendly and my drink came out super fast. Plus they're drinks are some of the cheapest I've seen. $3 for a regular and $3.65 for a large.. not too shabby. The tapioca pearls were big and chewy (the best kind) and the taro milk tea was solid. Located near Galleria Mall, Fat Straws is a decent boba tea place. The staff is nice and the drinks are good but I really like the consistency of their boba. They also occasionally sell mochi donuts which are sooo good that I wake up early on days they're selling them to get a dozen before they sell out. Best donuts ever in my opinion. I still love Fat Straws. I recognize it might not be the MOST authentic, but it's the most enjoyable and consistent I've found. Their slushes should be renamed because it conjures up the image of a slushie, rather than a creamy blended drink (which is what it actually is). I just can't get away from my taro or green tea slush or milkshake. I don't have anywhere near me that makes a good one, so when I finally get to Fat Straws I just can't branch out. I lived here in high school so I've tried everything on the menu. They have a wide range of drink options, spanning from classic milk tea to smoothies and slushes. The classic milk tea leaves a lot to be desired-- the appeal here is really in their other drinks. The Thai tea is quite good- not overwhelmingly sweet but also not watered down. If you feel like drinking 2 meals, get the green tea milkshake (only 1,000 calories!). Their bubbles are not too sweet and a little on the chewy side, which is how I like it. My go to is the Tea of the Day (usually something that sounds like "Garden of Eden" or "Summer Rain", all taste vaguely fruity), half sweetened, light ice, with bubbles. The line is usually long, but the employees are speedy and friendly. There is ample seating with magazines, books, and boardgames with missing pieces. Also now they have a rewards card!!! I used to NEVER to that... but this place is has THE BEST bubbles I've ever had. They feel perfectly spherical, taste slightly sweet, and when you chew them bounce at the perfect consistency. They're never mushy on the outside or too chalky and hard on the inside. I've never had a subpar bubble here! Anyway, I loved the Fat Straws in Plano. I was quite impressed with the quality of drinks here. Most tapioca places are just okay. But I loved going to Fat Straws throughout my stay in Dallas. It was literally a 2 minute drive from the Galleria. The girls were friendly and fast making the drinks. I think it's funny that they refer to tapioca as "bubbles". Coming from Houston, we use tapioca or boba. But bubbles is cute! Haha I love the strawberry slush with green apple jelly. It tastes almost exactly as a strawberry chill from Thirsty's but better! It was not too sweet either. BF tried the peach mango slush the first time and really liked it but the bubbles were not cooked well that night. Driving out here was a bit of a struggle but we came out and it was worth it!!!! The boba barista was very friendly and let us sample a bunch of the milk teas the top two have to be probably the honeydew and Thai. Perfect little gem in North Dallas. There's not that many bubble tea places in this part of town. So essentially Fat Straws here has the monopoly. They have high ceilings here and concrete floor, so it def gets loud when there's people around chatting. Sometimes it's hard to hear what people at your table are saying, but it's a great place to meet and hang out. They put some chairs out in front of the store, but usually the sun is too bright/hot.
