My granddaughter had the chain fall off her bicycle. I took it to the Corrales location and Ethan replaced the missing link and put it back on. He also adjusted the seat and the brakes. I was shopping for a gravel bike and, with a strong background as a cyclist and former bike shop employee, I went out to see selections of manufacturers I had ridden before. That meant visiting several shops in ABQ. I visited 3 shops (including one where I was in there for 30 minutes without being acknowledged) before walking into Fat Tire-Montaño. I wasn't hardly in the door when Mark, one of the employees greeted me. He gave me enough space to look around. Then Scott, who I actually know from outside of cycling, showed me some serious options and took the time to enthusiastically explain the tech and how it fitted with my needs. And finally Eric the manager, even though he was super busy, took the time to introduce himself and chat cycling. So here's the thing.. A bike is a bike is a bike. The brand you can buy at shop #1 is exactly the same, no matter what shop you purchase at. The key is how the shop treats you, what type of vibe they have, and if you think they're worth having a long term relationship with. In the case of Fat Tire? 100%. This is exactly the type of local bike shop that binds a cycling community. They get it, and I'll be a customer for as long as we're in NM. read more

Javier and the team went above and beyond to get my son and I riding in the Foot Hills of the Sandias. They worked with pricing as only needed bikes for few hours, included tools to remove front tire, stop disc brakes from closing and water bottles. Post ride they even helped with recovery. Needless to say they pulled out all the stops except the brakes or safety. read more

Incorrect information provided for a service order. Was everyone nice otherwise? Yes. Did they do the job? Yes. This is strictly a service and professionalism review. I called on Wednesday, 10/29/25, to discuss service for a walker. I did not get the person's name. Explained the last time it was completed a year ago, there was no charge for my Dad as he was a disabled veteran. Per the owner (as was told to us last year). Further, that since my Dad passed away this year, I am working to donate his equipment to other veterans who may not have access to the needed equipment in his home area of southern CO. I wanted to ensure the equipment is in good order. The VA said they weren't permitted to service the walker. Sometimes the vets can't get in to clinics to get help, and a separate organization helps them for travel and equipment access (aka, this walker). I asked on Wednesday if that fee-free service was still an option? I was told sure, yes, they could accommodate that. Great, ok to bring on Friday? Yes, no problem, shouldn't take too long. Dropped off Friday. Picked up today, was charged a fee. Is a fee fair? Yes. Is it when otherwise quoted as free? No. I also explained that I am a furloughed employee, working without pay, that I can pay but couldn't really afford to do so. In summary, I was expected to pay for the service. Had I known, I would absolutely have waited to see if/when the furlough ends and taken the walker in at that time. This is not miscommunication. This is misleading communication and lacks professionalism. Everyone needs to be delivering the same message. I should not have to collect a list of staff names in order for a business to stand by their commitment. read more

I came in from out of town to ride a demo/rental bike for the 47 mile Day Of The Tread bike ride. I reserved a medium Mondraker Dusty R e-gravel bike ahead of time. I'm riding a large e-gravel I bought in March in SoCal. I'm in the middle and can ride medium or large. I brought my own pedals and helmet. Erik and the crew set me up and even supported the ride the next day. One seat adjustment at the sag stop and the bike ride went great! I returned the bike to the new shop off Tramway and they were great to work with too. In all a really good experience with great equipment. Highly recommend a demo/rental if interested. read more

Do not waste your money here!! My ebike had a flat tire so I brought it here. Someone there (probably a customer) recommended I get the Tannus liner, so I did. Picked up my bike and when I got it home I noticed my kickstand was now missing the foot. Called the shop, they had it, I picked it up. Next flat tire was on the front, so I got the Tannus liner on my front tire. When I picked it up, it was missing the cap for the valve stem. On my second ride with Tannus in both tires, I got another flat on the back tire. Again, took it to the shop. They told me it went flat because there was a gash on the valve stem. They also neglected to reconnect my motor but thankfully they noticed that before I left the shop or they probably would have blamed that on me too. After experiencing hand numbness, when riding my MTB, on the Bosque trail, from Alameda, south, past the Biopark, I visited Fat Tire Cycles, on Montano, to inquire about a bike fit adjustment. Matt helped flip my handlebar stem post and raised by seat height, so that I had the proper knee bend. Before the adjustments, I would start to feel the numbness after about 3 miles, now I can ride for over 10 miles without any need to shake my hands. I was very impressed with my first visit and the complete lack of attempts to upsell me to anything I didn't need. It's nice to know there are still genuinely sincere bike shops willing to earn repeat customer business. Matt also provided some advice on swapping my gravel tires, with tubes, to offroad tubeless tires, to allow for riding on more diverse terrain. I'm happy their new Alameda location is now open, as it's much closer to my home and on the way to/from the Bachechi open space, where I do my Bosque trail rides. read more

The little things matter : from greeting you once you enter their front door, to the immediate and genuine, 'how may I help you?'.... as a total newbie to biking (and wanting to make sure that the eBay bargain is indeed safe to ride) I felt welcomed and helped and told that there's a 3 week wait for service. This didn't stop the crew to take it back to do a quick look thru and, after 10 minute, deemed that subject bike is, in fact, rideable. I have been going to Fat Tire for many years, usually to have some very hard to install tires put on my wheelchair. I recently brought my handcycle there to have an issue with my front fork, wheel and tire sorted out. Eric the owner, personally showed me the issues that were causing the problem and rather than having me leave my bike for a couple of days, which I had expected, he had Mike (big Mike!) the mechanic, do the repairs right on the spot, not only saving me another trip to the shop but allowing me to be back out cycling the next day! Also, they had a replacement tire in stock, an unusual size that most shops would not have, and everything was done at an extremely reasonable cost, less than I had expected. Oh yeah when the gyms shut down I needed to still get a workout in. I had a bike but it was pretty old and not holding up so well with the daily riding. My friend recommended Fat Tire. They were out of bikes but let me know when they'd have some put together. Fat Tire saved my sanity and helped me find the perfect bike. Got me all set up with a water bottle holder, tires and tubes that would help with the thorns out on the Bosque. I later needed some adjustments, they did it at no charge since the bike was new and adjustments come with the territory. This will now be my go to for biking needs. read more

Replaced and fixed work another bicycle shop in town messed up. Had to drop bike off several days prior, then pick it up. Bc of COVID, I had to make appointment 3 weeks prior. Great experience dropping off. Young man helped take my bike out of my large SUV, wrote down the problems/my complaints. He was masked and very helpful. (Sadly, he was the only employee wearing a mask that day.) The next day, I received a call with an estimate. I approved the repairs and picked up the bike the next day. Turn around for drop off the pick up was 3 days. Pick up was slightly different. Older, gruff man helped me. Zero mask. Wheeled bike out, rang me up. Got me the receipt and thanked me for business. I had to load the bike into my SUV in dress and heels. I managed but not the same experience as check-in. Thus the 4-stars. 5 stars for drop off service and call; 3 stars for pickup. I would come back here for all my bike needs in the future, especially if I got the same young man who helped me on day 1. read more

I don't typically offer reviews, but I enjoyed a truly outstanding experience today in doing business with Fat Tire Cycles of Albuquerque. Long story short, I had been told by another bike shop that my brakes needed to be replaced, not just the pads- the calipers/brakes themselves. I stopped by Fat Tire Cycles to see if they could perhaps get me in sooner than my usual shop. Clint, the mechanic who fixed my brakes front and rear, without an appointment, did so without replacing the calipers. He informed me I only needed pads and some adjustments. He then gave me an unbeatable price I would have never imagined (the labor alone probably should have been more than what I was charged). He even took the time to teach me about my brakes, so I'd know how to prevent it from happening again, while assuring me if it does to come on back whenever I need. Awesome! I have had nothing but a phenomenally positive experience, and felt like Matt, the store manager, took great care of me, and he facilitated getting my bike put together the same day upon receiving it, and made sure everything was working perfectly on the bike before I left. Always enjoyed this shop. It's been around the Burque for quite a while from what I understand...and it's sort of the more eclectic shop in town where one can go and find something a little more unique or specialized. Other bike stores in town typically partner up with one or two brands, there you can find an odd assortment of brands and if not, they'll figure out a way to get it for you. The service guys have been there a while too...which is sort of an anomaly in and of itself for the retail side of this industry - it's always hard to find and keep good people so, I'm assuming the owners treat them well which is great to observe. It's a very low-margin, tough/competitive retail market for this industry so...seeing stores like this stick around always makes me want to support them as best I can with my business. read more
